A whistle sounded as the gym coach signaled for Nelson Nash and his friends to end the Basketball game that they had been playing.,

" Ok ladies! First games over."

Terry Dana Max Howard Chelsea and Blade sat watching the game,

Nelson tossed the ball hitting another student in the head as he walked off of the court.

Dana shook her head in disgust,

" Is it me or does Nelson seem like a bigger jerk day by day?" she asked sarcastically.

" OH, come on I'm sure even Neanderthals have a sweet side.: Terry quipped getting up to head to the gym floor.

Blade smiled " Neanderthals are just my type."

Max chimed in " Come on, girl. Your type is any man with muscles and a pulse."

Blade jeered at her shooting Max a look of haughtiness as the the others laughed.

" And what about your type?" Blade asked Max .

" Whats that supposed to mean?" Max was puzzled,

" You know what I mean. The new kid in home room."

Max shot Blade a puzzled look.

" Which one?"

Blade and Chelsea giggled .

" You know about your size wears glasses kind of stocky doesn't say much."

" His name is Rey he works at the pizza parlor near my aunts house." Howard interrupted,

The girls shot him an annoyed look.

"Sorry.: He said sinking back on to the bleachers.

" He's not my type besides I'm more concerned about my grades and not superficial things like boys." Max said flippantly.

" Well Chelsea thinks hes cute." Blade responded

"Stop it." Chelsea said giggling

"You two can be so shallow." Dana said to Blade and Chelsea.

" Oh, come on Dana its just girl talk."

Dana shrugged her shoulders.

Tiring of the incessant jabbering Terry got up from the bleachers to head to the gym floor.

" Well I hate to interrupt your girl talk but I have to go." He stopped giving Dana a kiss.

" Don't bother look whose coming over." Dana said disgusted.

Nelson walked over tossing the ball in one hand.

He stopped hugging Blade. " Hey babe."

"Hey Dana." He said leaning in " Miss me."

Dana put her hand to his face pulling away . "Hardly!"

Terry grabbed Nelson pulling him back.

" Back off Gorilla."

Nelson backed off smiling with an arrogant grin.

"Relax Mcginnis. We're all friends here I was just playing."

Terry was not pleased .

But he knew he had to keep his cool. Terry had known Neslon ever since Junior high and couldn't stand him. After watching him give bully endless weaker kids over the years. There would be nothing better than knocking this overgrown Neanderthal on his face, But thats not something that Batman would do.

" I'm not your friend." Terry grunted through his teeth.

Attempting to break up the situation Dana and Max intervened.

" Stop it! You two." Dana yelled

" Yeah, Mcginnis listen your old lady."

Terry reluctantly backed off.

" How about a game, Mcginnis?"

Nelson grabbed another shoving it in Mcginiss's stomach.

" Sure."

" OK you and the new kid sitting by himself over there," Nelson nodded towards a black haired stocky kid, Standing about 5'11" wearing glasses. Who sat eating an apple reading a book in the corner.

Terry looked over at the new kid.

"You're on."

" Hey new kid! Game time."

Nelson shouted.

The young man didn't respond.

Angered Nelson clutched the ball in his hands.

" Hey, Twip. Mover it." Nelson yelled again.

The coach signaled for the new guy to come over.

" Mendoza move it or lose it."

Reluctantly Mendoza slowly got it up removing his chain shaped like a Dove and ran towards the floor.

Dana and her friends watched on as the game got under way.

Whats your name ?" Terry asked .

Rey the new kid answered

"You play Basketball, Rey?" Nelson asked .

"When I was kid but that was years ago."

Nelson smirked " This is going to be easy."

Terry and Nelson lined up for the tip off.

A loud whistle came from the bleachers Nelson looked up it was it was Blade.

Terry tipped the ball towards Rey . He ran towards the basket laying it down for a lay up.

As he ran back one of Nelsons friends stuck his foot out tripping Mendoza.

" Hey, that's a foul!" Howard stood up saying to the coach.

"Not in my gym." The coach responded.

Terry reached out his hand helping Rey up.

" IM sorry about that, Rey,"

Rey pulled himself up Dona worry about it lets play."

Rey rushed towards the opposite end of of the court.

Nelson came bullying towards him.

Terry followed blocking off Nelson

Nelson held the ball up as Terry smothered him preventing him from passing it.

" Move Mcginnis your making me look bad."

" Move me." Terry smiled back.

" Fine!"

Nelson hunched down delivering an elbow to Terry's gut.

Nelson drove forward scoring as terry fell to the floor.

Terry jumped up running to confront Nelson. He had held his cool /

Now it was time to put this punk in his place.

Nelson ran by Rey shoving him to the ground.

" Hey Dana get your boyfriend." Max said concerned.

Terry jumped in front of Nelson confronting him.

" You like picking on people why don't you try me, jerk!"

The coach sounded his whistle interrupting the two .

"Game over ladies. Hit the showers or its detention and suspension for the both of you."

Nelson smirked as he walked off.

Dana , Howard, and Max came down from the bleachers.

" Terry are you and the new kid OK?"

"Yeah." Terry looked at Rey

" Are you ok Rey?"

" I'm good . I just need to get my chain. "

Rey ran over retrieving his chain from the bleachers.

He rejoined the group.

Rey held the chain in his hand it was shaped like a Dove.

"Schway chain ." Max remarked.

" What is it?" asked Howard.

"Its a Dove my mother gave it to me it was a a symbol of my dads old church . He was a preacher here in Gotham

" Are we still on for tonight you guys?" Max interrupted.

" Sure ." Dana responded.

" Tonight?" Howard said " GUYs?".

Terry looked over at Rey.

"Hey why don't you join us."

Rey seemed to mull over the offer.

"I'm not really a going out kind of guy."

Max jumped in.

"Oh, come on guy. It'll be fun besides I get tired of clobbering Howard at Galactic knights when Terry and Dana want to be alone."

"Hey!" Howard chimed in.

" No offense." Max reassured him.

She tugged at Reys arm quietly. Nudging him.

Not wanting to seem rude he agreed. This max girl could be persuasive or maybe he wanted to be persuaded.

" OK, I don't have to work tonight . Where are we going?"
