Chapter 09: Masters' Blasters

There was an asteroid near Saturn. The asteroid was made of Ecto-ranium, which was the reason Vlad had a satellite mining it. Having stolen the Infi-Map from the Far Frozen ghosts, he could use it to inspect his satellite more often than usual. A pair of Holo-Maddies was about to report their latest findings about the asteroid when Team Phantom arrived there aboard the Specter Speeder. Danny and his friends recovered the map and Vlad's satellite blew up. "Daniel, you will pay for this." Vlad declared.

Days later, Danny and Tucker were at Casper High when Sam approached them. "Guys, I've bought a new movie!" She happily exclaimed. "Do you wanna watch it with me?"

"Is it the new Terminatra movie?" Danny asked.

"No, it's a movie about werewolves." Sam answered while showing the DVD cover.

"Very subtle, Sam." Tucker sarcastically commented upon seeing a picture of a werewolf growling at people.

"What do you mean?" Danny asked, making his friends shocked at how clueless he was.

"Sam's trying to make you afraid of Clawdeen." Tucker said.

"Nonsense, Tucker." Danny replied. "Sam just likes the idea of monsters being scary."

"So, what do you say?" Sam asked. "Do you want to see how many people will be bitten?"

"Sam, you're scaring me and I'm dating a monster." Danny said.

"Because no human girl other than the goth would give you a chance, Fenton." Dash joked as he intruded on the conversation.

"Dash!" Paulina scolded the jock. "My ghost boy is technically a monster."

"A monster who never showed interest on you." Dash replied. "Even if he does prefer cheerleaders as it fits popular boys, he probably will date one from that monster school. Fenton, you'd better hope Phantom isn't into werewolves."

"Fenton, get me into that monster school so I can show my ghost boy I'm a better cheerleader than those monsters." Paulina demanded.

"Do you think the mummy will let Paulina join?" Sam asked.

"I think Cleo is more likely to treat Paulina the same way Paulina treats rejected cheerleader applicants." Danny replied.

"I'd love to be there to see it even if it still disappoints me that monsters aren't so different from us." Sam commented.

Danny's cellphone then rang. "Clawdeen?"

"Danny, what's Plasmius up to?" Clawdeen asked.

"What do you mean?" Danny asked in confusion. His friends were just as confused.

"Are you watching the news?" Clawdeen asked. "Plasmius is there."

"Wait a minute." Tucker said and used his PDA to watch the news. Vlad Masters, in his capacity as the Mayor of Amity Park, announced a team of Ghost Hunters known as Masters' Blasters. "Masters' Blasters stop disasters!" They chanted.

"Good rhyme." Tucker commented, earning glares from his friends. In spite of not looking at Clawdeen, he could feel a glare from her as well.

"Hmm, I wonder how much a Blaster is paid to hunt ghosts?" Dash wondered.

"Are you serious, Dash?" Danny asked.

"Of course I am, Fenturd." Dash replied. "Being a ghost hunter is a better future than what I had in mind and, if I'm impressive enough, Paulina could get over her obsession with Phantom and date me."

"Tucker Foley stops disasters!" Tucker suddenly said, shocking everyone. "What?"

"Anyway, as much as I respect Danny Phantom, I like the fact we have more defenders." Dash commented, deciding to ignore Tucker.

"I wonder if my ghost boy will think I look good in a Blaster uniform." Paulina dreamily said.

"That doesn't matter, Paulina." Dash replied. "We must warn the Blasters about other kinds of monsters and perhaps convince Masters to invest on silver bullets."

"Sorry you had to hear that, Clawdeen." Danny said.

"After what recently happened to him, I don't blame him for being wary of monsters." Clawdeen replied. "I still think he's a jerk for how he treats you but I still don't blame him for the silver bullet speech."

"Okay." Danny replied.

After classes ended, Danny and his friends watched the movie at Sam's mansion. "Still want to know Clawdeen's sister, Tucker?" Sam asked.

"Yes!" Tucker exclaimed. "Did she say anything?"

"I was joking, Tucker." Sam was upset.

"Anyway, I hope Clawdeen never learns about this movie or she might be offended." Danny commented.

"As if monsters never made movies portraying us as the bad guys." Sam replied. "Ask Clawdeen if the monster world has any movies portraying humans."

"I won't deny I'm curious." Danny commented.

"Then call her." Tucker replied. "I wanna know if the monster girls who reject me in spite of not already having boyfriends reject me in spite of me not being a monster or because I'm not a monster."

"Whatever." Danny muttered and phoned Clawdeen. "Danny?" Clawdeen asked.

"Clawdeen, thinking about how monsters are portrayed in movies made by humans made me wonder about how humans are portrayed in movies made by monsters." Danny commented.

"Well, we don't make many movies featuring normies because we know they exist." Clawdeen answered, oblivious to how Danny felt by not being included among the 'normies'. "All we make is based on real experiences with normies albeit I have yet to watch one featuring normies sucking a monster's life force."

"Normies doing WHAT?" Danny was shocked at what he heard.

"Normies sucking life force from monsters." Clawdeen replied like it was obvious. "Can't all normies do that?"

"Clawdeen, I never heard anything about humans being able to do that." Danny replied.

Clawdeen thought it over. "Maybe it's some lost knowledge. Not many normies knew about Freakshow using a magical scepter to control ghosts otherwise the normie authorities would've caught him before you got involved."

"True." Danny conceded.

"In fact, do you remember those bank robberies in Wisconsin?" Clawdeen asked. "Those that your archenemy turned out to be the culprit of."

"Yes." Danny answered.

"At some point, some monsters theorized they were done by ghosts under that scepter's control." Clawdeen explained.

"Ask her about Howleen!" Tucker said.

"Tucker!" Sam scolded her friend.

"Danny, was that Tucker Foley?" Clawdeen asked. "I recognized the desperation in his voice."

"Hey." Tucker protested.

"Anyway, what're you going to do about those Masters' Blasters?" Clawdeen asked.

"I don't know yet." Danny answered.

"Danny, you should double your efforts and show that Amity Park doesn't need the Blasters. Sam eagerly suggested.

"Do you see this as a competition?" Clawdeen asked.

"Of course it is." Sam replied, not liking that Clawdeen was getting involved. "Plasmius is backing the Blasters."

"Point taken but there's also the possibility Plasmius is trying to make Danny exhausted." Clawdeen argued. "I think Danny should just do as usual. What about your parents? Have you talked to your parents?"

"I'm still getting used to having them in the secret but I'll talk to them." Danny replied.

"I'm glad I could help but I've got fearleading practice with the ghouls." Clawdeen said. "Bye."

"Danny, are you really going to take advice from a monster?" Sam asked with a frown after the call ended.

"It was a good advice and, to be honest, I'm not sure if your problem with Clawdeen is really because she's a monster or because she's a cheerleader." Danny commented.

'That's indeed one reason, my not so clueless friend.' Tucker thought, fearing Sam's reaction more than he feared the literal monster jock that happened to be Clawdeen and Howleen's brother.

"Monsters are creatures of the night." Sam protested. "Even if Clawdeen and her friends aren't evil enough to attack people, they should enjoy dark and grim stuff."

"You expect them to be goth like you?" Tucker asked and, realizing he just made fun of Sam, he hid behind Danny.

"Sam, let's focus on the Blaster issue." Danny asked, to Tucker's relief. The three of them went to talk to Jack and Maddie. To Team Phantom's surprise, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton had an "autographed" poster of the Masters' Blasters. "Dad?" Danny asked in confusion.

"Son, we agreed to let Vlad think your mother and I still don't know his secret." Jack pointed out. "If I didn't act as a loony fan to the Masters' Blasters, he'd suspect something."

"Mr. Fenton, how come Danny managed to keep his secret from you for so long?" Tucker asked.

"Jack and I didn't believe humans could have ghost powers, Tucker." Maddie answered.

"Either way, I never understood why the Guys in White dismissed Danny as too prepubescent." Jack commented. "There was a moment when I suspected Danny Phantom was the spirit of a Fenton whose desire to catch ghosts became his ghostly obsession and that he used to look like you as a teenager. In fact, if I didn't know John Fenton Nightingale lived well into adulthood, I'd have suspected Phantom of being his spirit."

Danny was now thinking of how awkward things would be if John Fenton Nightingale returned as a ghost and the two of them met in present time. "A Fenton returning as a ghost?" Danny asked. "Has it ever happened?"

"Not that I know." Jack answered. "Maybe the deceased Fentons who became ghosts decided to stay in the ghost zone because they still believe that's where ghosts should stay."

"Anyway, we're here to decide what to do about the Masters' Blasters." Danny said and told his parents about Sam's and Clawdeen's suggestions.

"Danny, I think you should follow Clawdeen's suggestion." Jack said.

"Me too." Maddie agreed.

"Are you serious?" Sam asked. "Do you really think the monster has a better idea than mine?"

"I think you hate Clawdeen for dating Danny." Jack replied.

"True." Tucker muttered and Sam glared at him.

"Sam, I know you're disappointed that Clawdeen and her friends don't go around scaring people as the monsters from human-made movies do but I feel glad and that wouldn't change even if I never dated any of those monster girls." Danny commented.

"Me too." Tucker added. "If Deuce or his Mom ever turn me into stone, Dash wouldn't hesitate to call the pigeons."

"I still find it hard to believe Medusa is a mother." Sam commented.

"I don't know why, Sam." Danny replied. "Medusa is already known for having sisters. Why is a son outside the realm of possibilities?"

"I just got used to the idea of gorgons being female." Sam admitted.

"Anyway, I'm going for a patrol." Danny said and flew away.

"Show the Blasters who's the best!" Sam cheered.

"Don't you mean "show the ghosts who's the best"?" Tucker asked with a teasing tone.

"That too." Sam said.

As Danny kept flying around, he spotted some ghosts but the Masters' Blasters always reached them first. Danny's parents experienced the same thing whenever they spotted a ghost before Danny did. "Danny, do you think Vlad would set up those ghost attacks to make his Blasters look good?" Maddie asked.

"Probably." Danny answered and Tucker and Sam nodded.

"And to think I'd be worshipping those guys if I didn't know the truth about my former friend." Jack sadly commented.

Suddenly, they heard someone breaking into Fentonworks and went to the living room to investigate. It was the Masters' Blasters. "What're you doing here?" Maddie asked the Blasters while glaring at them.

"We've been informed you and your husband are harboring a ghost." Vid, one of the Blasters, said and they started using a ghost detector on them. Danny, to the confusion of the rest of Team Phantom, ran away.
