Chapter 83
Hitch's latest win kept things alive for his team and school. The boy snapped out of his gaze and looked about. He saw his fellow classmates cheering for him as he let out a goofy smile and rubbed his neck before waving at them. On the side, Izzy clapped up a storm as she cheered her friend for his victory. Zipp also smiled as she peered over Mario who still held the towel.
In Nurse Redheart's office, the trio had watched Hitch's win, especially him pulling off an Xyz summon, as it amazed them. Especially, Sunny as she couldn't help but smile at seeing her best friend play the card she gave him so long ago.
"I didn't expect Hitch to do an Xyz summon," said Pipp.
"What do you think about it, Sunny?" smirked Roll as she teased her friend.
"Uh, w-well, I, I think he did good," responded the girl as she played with her fingers.
"Come on! Let's go join the others!" said Pipp.
Hitch was returning to his side with the others as both girls clapped to show their support.
"Nice one, sheriff!" said Zipp.
"Thanks," said Hitch as he rubbed his neck again.
He looked at Mario, who merely tossed the towel to his friend. He caught it and began wiping his forehead and all the sweat on him. The two boys shared a smile, which didn't go unnoticed by the other two. At that moment, their attention was caught as the next selection of duelists was being determined. The screen showed the remaining participants, as two were highlighted and blasted on the screen.
"The next duel will feature CPA's Phin taking on CHS' Izzy!" said Cadance.
Upon hearing her name be called and who she was facing, Izzy's face dropped. She glanced over to see Phin on the other side; the Crystal Prep girl locked eyes with Izzy and smirked.
"Oh, no," said Izzy as she felt a sense of fear come over as she fell down.
"Izzy, you good?" asked Zipp.
"No," said the girl, afraid of fighting Phin given what happened in their last battle.
"Come on, Izzy! Get up!" said the heiress, trying to encourage her friend.
"I can't do this! I can't!" said the girl, feeling like running away.
"Izzy…"
"Izzy! Get your ass out there now!" yelled Mario as he got in the girl's face. "If you think Phin is scaring, wait till you see what I do to you!"
"B-B-But…."
"I will bonk you on the head and drag you myself!" shouted the boy. "Now get to stepping!"
The girl nodded rapidly as she zoomed away from Mario to avoid his wrath.
"Idiot," mumbled Mario as had to deal with another one of Izzy's stupid antics.
"Well, you got her not to be scared anymore," said Zipp.
Izzy made her way onto the field before she turned and immediately fell down. Standing before her was the cause of her fear as Phin's smile appeared wicked in her mind.
"I've been waiting for you, hippie!" said the Crystal Prep girl as she wanted to humiliate the girl again.
"Izzy, don't let her frighten you!" shouted Hitch.
"R-Right," responded the girl nervously as she stood up.
The pair strapped on their duel disks. Izzy projected a blue-colored card tray while Phin produced an amber-colored card tray. The two girls looked at each other, and the latter gave a fierce look while the former took a gulp.
"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing duel."
Phin's Life Points: 8000-
Izzy's Life Points: 8000-
The pair's portraits came on the screen as Izzy's was highlighted to indicate she would get the first move.
Turn 1: Izzy (Hand 5)
"Consider yourself lucky, hippie!" scoffed Phin as she so badly wanted to go first and destroy Izzy.
"O-Okay… I draw," said the girl as she nervously drew her card and looked at her opening hand.
Izzy's mind flashed back to her last duel with Phin, and the haunting memory flooded her mind. She could hear the girl's voice echoing in her mind as she tried to silence them.
You're stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
"Oh, no. Izzy's out of it again," said Zipp as they saw how their friend was acting.
"What do we do?" asked Hitch.
"Izzy!" yelled Mario.
The boy's voice reached the girl, and she was snapped out of her mind and returned to reality. She turned to look at her friend as he glared at her.
"Focus, or I will smack you upside the head!" stated Mario.
"Duly noted," said the girl, seeming to refocus after hearing her friend's insult. She looked at her hand before hearing something over the speakers.
"Ms. Moonbow, you have 30 seconds to make a move, or you will be disqualified!" said Luna over the speaker. It'd been five minutes since Izzy drew her card, and she didn't register it because her fears were at the forefront of her mind.
"IZZY!" yelled Mario, ready to go on the field and straggle the girl.
"Okay, okay!" said Izzy, taking a deep breath and concentrating on her aura. The girl focused on her inner spirit as she tried to get it to calm down and return to its original harmony. She opened her eyes and then picked a card from her hand.
"How does your cousin deal with someone like her?" remarked Shirai to Flurry, as Izzy was a handful and were surprised Mario hadn't lost it already with her.
"I summon my Scrap Recycler(900/1200) in defense mode," said Izzy as a trashcan on wheels appeared with some junk falling out. "Then, its effect activates. I can send one Machine-type monster from my deck to my graveyard when it's summoned. I'll follow that up by playing the spell card Terraforming. This lets me add a field spell to my hand. And I know which one I want. My Scrap Factory, and I'm gonna play it… now!"
Izzy slammed her card onto her card tray as it lit up. The entire field began to take shape as a factory rose behind her. The girl stood before her giant building in a junkyard with tons of piles around her. Stream and smog were let out from the top, as in the windows, and furnaces were shown emitting heat. A large conveyor belt ran from one side of the building to the other, and several cranes were shown dumping piles of junk onto the belt.
"Heh. This again," mocked Phin as she recalled the last time Izzy played her Scrap Factory and how she sent the girl packing to the junkyard where she belonged.
Compared to the last time,, when she felt confident, Izzy was now fearful as she looked about the building behind her and the piles of junk nearby. The remarks and comments that Phin made during their last duel weighed on her mind as she tried not to let it affect her mental state.
"My field spell gives my monster an extra 200 points to both stats. I then play my Supply Squad continuous spell card. Finally, I'll place one card facedown and end my turn."
Turn 2: Phin (Hand 5)
"My turn!" shouted Phin as she drew and looked at her hand. "Let me show you some real skill, hippie! I play my Gadget Gamer(300/300). Then, I activate its effect. When I normal summon my monster, I get to add a Level one monster from my deck to my hand." Phin touched her duel screen as she began to scour through her deck; once she made her choice, her duel disk ejected the card she wanted and grabbed it.
"Next up, I can tribute my Gadget Gamer to special summon a 'Morphtronic' monster from my hand. So I'll summon the monster I just added to my hand. My Morphtronic Celfon(100/100)!" A large yellow cell phone appeared in front of Phin. A sheen of light washed over it and broke apart, transforming it into a large yellow robot with bright pink eyes. The phone screen cracked down in the center and swung back, forming a pair of wings.
"Then my Gadget Gamer's second effect allows me to summon my Gadget Hauler(1300/0) from my deck!" said Phin. A horn sound was heard as a pickup truck rolled onto the field before it transformed to open the back to reveal a cannon. "Next, I activate Celfon's ability! Once per turn, I can roll a die, and whatever the result is, I can reveal that many cards on the top of my deck and summon a Level 4 or lower 'Morphtronic' monster among them." Phin snapped her fingers. "Go, Morphtronic Speed Dial!"
"This doesn't look good," said Zipp, as they knew what Phin's deck could do.
Celfon thrust out its chest, which comprised the top half of the phone form's dial pad. The numbers lit up in rapid sequence before stopping on '6'. The girl smiled before grabbing six cards from her deck, looked over them, and nodded.
"I'll bring out my Morphtronic Scopen(800/1400)!" Out came a microscope before it transformed to produce arms and limbs like it comrade. "Then I activate my Scopen's ability. While it's in defense mode, it's a Level 4 monster. Which is exactly what I need… I now tune my Scopen with my Celfon!" Morphtronic Scopen burst apart into four giant glowing green rings that floated around Celfon and began to spin while Celfon changed into a single white star with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! Come on out! T.G. Hyper Librarian(2400/1800)!" A tall, slim, humanoid figure in a white and black robe stood before Phin, a white cloak trailing down its back. It raised its head, concealed by a military cap and glasses, and snapped an arm out, a book tracing out in green light and then popping into existence in its hand.
"Now, T.G. Hyper Librarian, take out her Scrap Recycler!" Hyper Librarian brought its hands together, forming an orb of pale blue light. The orb sparked and shot a beam of energy across the field as it collided with Izzy's monster and destroyed it.
"Since my monster was destroyed, the effect of my Supply Squad activates. Allowing me to draw a card!" said Izzy.
"Ha! You need all the help you can get, hippie!" barked Phin. "Now, Gadget Hauler, take aim at her Life Points!" The pickup truck aimed its cannon as it had Izzy in its sights; a shot was fired as a beam of energy headed toward the girl who covered up.
Izzy's Life Points: 6700-
"Next, I'm playing my own field spell, Morphtronic Map!" Below the girl's feet, there was a treasure map. "I then end my turn with a facedown."
Turn 3: Izzy (Hand 3)
"My move," said Izzy as she drew her card. "I summon my Scrap Worm(500/100)." A small metal worm appeared with only an open mouth.
"What's that thing supposed to do?" taunted Phin as she didn't find Izzy's monster all that intimidating.
"My worm's special ability allows it to attack your Life Points directly!"
"What?"
"And remember, my field spell gives my worm an extra 200 attack points!" stated Izzy. The metal worm began to slither its way toward Phin.
It leaped high above her monster and was coming down on the girl. The metal thing bit the Crystal Prep girl as she shook off any oil that fell on her blazer as the creature returned to Izzy's side.
Phin's Life Points: 7300-
"I can't believe you managed to land a hit on me with that pathetic monster of yours!" growled Phin.
"Now, since my worm attacked, it's now destroyed," stated Izzy, her monster rusted and turned into a pile. The scooper from her factory noticed it and picked up the pile of metal before placing it on the conveyor belt to enter the building. "Now, there's a whole bunch of things that happen. First, my Supply Squad activates since a monster of mine was destroyed, and I get to draw a card. Then, since my Scrap Worm was destroyed by the effect of a 'Scrap' monster and sent to my graveyard, I can now add a 'Scrap' monster from my graveyard to my hand. So I'll take back my Scrap Recycler." Izzy's duel disk ejected the card as she grabbed it.
"Then, my Scrap Factory's other ability activates, which allows me to summon a 'Scrap' monster from my deck to the field. So I choose my Scrap Golem(2300/1400)!" A giant fan appeared coming out of a huge pile. Izzy's monster, whose body was a refrigerator, appeared with some steam leaking out of the small pockets in its limbs. It looked down at the Crystal Prep girl and her field of monsters.
"I end my turn."
Turn 4: Phin (Hand 3)
"It's my move! I play the spell card Morphtronic Accelerator. So, by returning my Morphtronic Boarden to my deck, I can destroy one card on the field. So say goodbye to your Scrap Golem!" said Phin as her monster began to break apart and crumple into a pile of junk metal.
"Now, you're wide open. Looks like you didn't improve at all, hippie! T.G. Hyper Librarian, attack!" commanded Phin as her monster prepped another orb of light.
"I reveal my facedown, Scapegoat!" said Izzy as her facedown turned over. Four cute goats appeared as they created a wall before Izzy. "With this card, I produce four Scapegoat tokens!"
"Like those fuzzy balls will stop me. Take out the first one!" said Phin as the orb shot forward and took out one of the Scapegoat tokens. "Gadget Hauler, your turn!" The pickup truck aimed its cannon and fired its shot as it took out another token.
"Thank god Izzy had that card, or else she would have taken a lot of damage," said Hitch.
"You're just embarrassing yourself, hippie. Along with the junk you call art!" barked Phin, "Now the second effect of my Morphtronic Accelerator activates, allowing me to draw a card."
Turn 5: Izzy (Hand 5)
"It's my move now, I draw… I summon my Scrap Chimera(1700/500)." As it roared, Izzy summoned her metal mythological beast. "Thanks to my monster's ability, when I normal summon it, I can bring back a 'Scrap' tuner monster from my graveyard. So my Scrap Worm is back!"
At that moment, Roll, Sunny, and Pipp had arrived. The trio of girls had made it back to the field; they saw Izzy currently taking on Phin before turning to see their friends.
"Hey, you guys!" called out Roll.
Hitch, Zipp, and Mario turned their heads as they saw the trio.
"Sunny… you…"
"Yes, Hitch. I'm fine. Thanks for being concerned about me, though," said the girl to her childhood friend as she found it cute that Hitch was concerned about her health.
"So, how is Izzy holding up?" asked Pipp.
"So far, so good," responded Zipp.
"As you know, my Scrap Worm can attack you directly," said Izzy to Phin as her monster wiggled its way toward the Crystal Prep girl and took another bite of her Life Points.
Phin's Life Points: 6600-
"Then, my Scrap Chimera will take out your Gadget Hauler!" said Izzy as her monster leaped into the air, took down the pickup truck, and exploded.
Phin's Life Points: 6000-
"Now that the battle phase is over my worm destroys itself since it attacked," said the girl as her monster turned into a pile of metal. The scooper picked up the pile to deposit it on the conveyor belt to send it into the factory. "Now my worm's ability activates. Since it was destroyed and sent to the graveyard, I can add a 'Scrap' monster from my graveyard to my hand. So I'll take back my Scrap Golem." Izzy's duel disk ejected her card as she grabbed it to add to her hand.
"Now my Scrap Factory activates to bring out a 'Scrap' monster from my deck. So I choose my Scrap Goblin(0/500)!" A monster made up of entirely junk parts appeared as the face it had resembled some sort of goblin.
"Look at that! Look at it! That piece of shit you call art? It's trash!" yelled Phin at the sight of Izzy's monster. "I'm the Architect. I design the blueprints, the plans. I lay everything out. You… you just throw shit together willy-nilly without so much as thought in that dumb, thick, stupid, hippie skull of yours! You're not a master builder… you're just a tinker!"
"I prefer the term creative artist," said Izzy. "Now… I tune my Level 3 Scrap Goblin with my Level 4 Chimera!" Izzy's small junk-like goblin turned into three giant green rings that circled its comrade who turned into four white stars that lined up with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! Scrap Archfiend(2700/1800)!" Emerging from a junk pile was Izzy's monster. The giant fiend appeared having horns on its head, and wings as steam emitted from it with the circuits running at full power.
"When does Izzy have that monster in her deck?!" said Pipp as she had to take a step back to see how big her creature was.
"And don't forget about my Supply Squad, so I draw another card since my Scrap Worm was destroyed. I then place one card facedown, and that's it."
Turn 6: Phin (Hand 3)
"My move. And it's time to put you out of your misery for good, hippie. I banish my Morphtronic Celfon from my graveyard to special summon Morphtronic Smartfon(100/100)." A slim smartphone materialized on Phin's field and snapped apart, the pieces within unfolding to form hands and feet. The top of the phone popped up, revealing a slim pair of red eyes. "I'll then activate Smartfon's ability. Once per turn, I can roll a die, and whatever the result is, I can reveal that many cards on the top of my deck and add a 'Morphtronic' card to my hand. Go, Morphtronic Messenger!" Smarton's screen on its chest began cycling through the numbers on it before stopping on four. Phin looked through the top four cards of her deck before making her choice.
"I'm taking my Morphtronic Vacuumen(0/0) and summoning it!" said the Crystal Prep girl as her monster appeared, and its cords and wheels popped out to form limbs. "I now tune my Smarton with my Vacuumen!" Phin's smartphone turned into a single giant green ring that circled its comrade with a yellow light surging through. " I align the frequencies of my smartphone and my vacuum together and hone in on the signal of a high-tech speedster! I Synchro Summon! Rolling out, Formula Synchron(200/1500)!" The race car appeared with legs emerging from below it and arms from the sides between the wheels. It stood next to Hyper Librarian and rested its hands on the car part that formed its chest.
"When I summon Formula Synchron, its effect activates, letting me draw a card. Also, since I performed a synchro summon, I get to activate my Hyper Librarian's effect. Letting me draw another card!" said Phin as she picked up two cards and folded them into her hand with the rest. "Now, Hyper Librarian, take out her third Scapegoat!" The monster created a blue orb that shot forward and took out another Izzy's token, leaving her with one. "Formula Synchron, your turn, take out that last puffball!" The race car zoomed forward, running over the last of Izzy's scapegoats as only her fiend remained.
"Now… I tune my Hyper Librarian with my Formula Synchron!" Formula Synchron's twin green rings floated over Hyper Librarian. The monster inside sparked as metal gathered around it and circled it. "I align the frequencies of my librarian and my speedster together and home in on the signal of a mechanical powerhouse!" The metal condensed around Hyper Librarian and lit up. "I Synchro Summon! Get ready to meet a monster with some major motor! Take flight, Power Tool Dragon(2300/2500)!" The metal shell shattered, revealing a large, gold, mechanical dragon with silver plates of metal running down its back to its tail. Its right arm was an electrical screwdriver bit with a large shovel claw. Red eyes flashed to life, and it flew over the field, circling behind Izzy and her fiend to return to Phin and alight beside her.
Seeing Phin's Power Tool Dragon, Izzy recalled out it was tough to take out and how it was the end of her. For a second, those red eyes of the dragon flashed in her mind as she tried to silence her fears from taking over.
"I activate Power Tool Dragon's special ability. Once per turn, I can take three Equip Spell cards from my deck. Then you randomly pick one of them, and it gets added to my hand." Phin reached to her duel disk's screen and tapped through the display. The holograms of three cards appeared in the air over the girl's head.
"Make your choice, hippie!"
Izzy looked at her three choices before her as she looked at them. Just as she was about to make her choice, a thought crossed her mind. It didn't go unnoticed by everyone watching as Izzy put her hand down.
"What's the matter, hippie?!" said Phin.
"They're all the same, aren't they?" asked Izzy as her opponent smiled.
"Of course they are! Did you honestly think I'd let you decide anything? You, of all people!" shouted Phin as all three cards were turned over to show them for all to see. "So since I made your choice for you, we'll just move on. I take my Central Shield and equip it onto my dragon. I then place one card facedown and end my turn."
Turn 7: Izzy (Hand 6)
"My turn. I draw. And I summon my Scrap Raptor(1400/1000)!" A mechanical dino-like monster appeared as it screeched. "Thanks to its special ability, I can summon an additional monster this turn. So I'll tribute my Raptor to resummon my Scrap Golem!" stated Izzy as her giant monster appeared.
"I then activate my Golem's ability to revive a monster from my graveyard. So my Scrap Worm is back in play!"
"Nice! As long as Izzy can keep Phin's monsters at bay, she can use her worm to bypass her line and go straight for her Life Points!" said Zipp.
"If you were thinking of trying to use that pathetic monster to attack my Life Points, think again! Because since my Power Tool Dragon has Central Shield equipped to it, you can't attack me directly!" said Phin as her monster emitted its power to protect its mistress.
"And that's not the only issue. Phin can save her Power Tool Dragon from being destroyed by getting rid of any Equip Spell it has. Plus, with it being in defense mode, Izzy's gonna have a harder time getting past it." said Mario.
"So how does she get pass that?" asked Sunny to her friend.
"Well, I'm not gonna use my Scrap Worm to attack you."
"What?" said Phin.
"I this… my Scrap Sheen spell card. So by destroying my Scrap Worm, all my other 'Scrap' monsters gain 1000 attack points until the end of the turn!" stated Izzy as her worm turned into a pile of metal while bits of it attached to her other monsters.
"That's how!" said Roll with a smile.
"Since my Scrap Worm was destroyed, I get to draw a card due to my Supply Squad. Then my field spell kicks in, allowing me to summon a 'Scrap' monster from my deck. So I choose my Scrap Kong(2000/1000)!" A junk-like gorilla appeared with a chainsaw in one hand and a claw in the other. It made a mechanical sound as it pounded the ground like an animal.
"Now, Scrap Golem, attack Power Tool Dragon!" said Izzy.
"By getting rid of my Central Shield, my monster can avoid being destroyed!" said Phin as she sent her card away to protect her monster from destruction.
"Scrap Archfiend, your turn!"
Izzy's fiend prepared its attack as a fireball appeared in his hands. He condensed it into an orb before shooting it outward toward the metal dragon.
"I activate my facedown, Synchro Big Tornado!" said Phin as her card flipped up, creating a giant wind to blow over. The wind got rid of Izzy's fireball, and both girls felt their clothes and hair fluttering in the wind.
"What's happening?!" shouted Pipp as she and the others all covered up from the wind blowing in their face.
"Thanks to my card, I can select one Synchro monster I control and one monster you control. Then your monster loses attack points equal to the defense points of my monster!" said Phin.
"That's not good!" stated Sunny.
"Since your monster now loses 2500 attack points, it's weaker than my Power Tool Dragon's defense. So not only does your attack not destroy it, but you take damage instead!" stated the Crystal Prep teen as Izzy was taken off her feet and fell to the floor from how powerful the tornado was.
Izzy's Life Points: 6900-
"You're stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid!" shouted Phin as she barked at Izzy.
The girl heard that remark by her opponent, as it triggered her memory of their last duel and the final moments of Phin shouting that at her.
"Since we've reached the end of your turn, both your Archfiend and Golem lose the extra 1000 attack points!" stated the Crystal Prep teen as Izzy's monster got weaker, especially her fiend, as it only had 400 attack points.
Turn 8: Phin (Hand 4)
"My move! And I activate my Power Tool Dragon's ability. So I take three Equip Spell cards, and you get to choose which one I add to my hand. But we don't have to do that because I'm making the decisions for you since you're too stupid anyway, hippie!" said Phin as her duel disk ejected the card she was gonna pick three times and grabbed it. "I now equip my Double Tool C&D onto my Power Tool Dragon and switch him into attack mode."
The metal dragon stood up as the weapons on its hands were changed to now have a drill and shield.
"Now my spell card gives my dragon an extra 1000 attack points!" stated Phin as her dragon felt the power surge through. "And it's time to make that Archfiend extinct!" The dragon took to the air as it thrust out the drill on its left hand and pierced through Izzy's monster; it exploded and broke apart into pieces, while the girl covered up and had her own marks appearing on her clothes and skin.
Izzy's Life Points: 4000-
"That's a lot of damage!" said Zipp as Izzy took a big blow to her Life Points.
"My Scrap Archfiend may be gone, but my Supply Squad means I can draw a card due to its destruction!" said Izzy as she dusted herself off and drew a card from the top of her deck.
"Do you even take anything seriously!" yelled Phin. "Look at you. Putting junk together and passing it off as art. Look at what I can create. I got a metal dragon on my side… you… you have a household appliance as your monster! It angers me that someone like you wants to build stuff when they don't follow guidelines! How?"
"Well… usually when I create something, I see this glowy line first, and it shows me the idea of what I want to make," responded Izzy.
"That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard!" yelled Phin. "It's that type of ignorance and carefree mindset that angers me. It angers me because of what happened to my family!"
Phin's anger reached its boiling point as she blurted out something that caught Izzy's attention. The Crystal Prep girl was breathing heavily as if saying what she said was like a huge weight on her shoulder that she'd been carrying forever, and finally let it out. Flurry had a straight look on her face as she had a feeling this would happen.
"What happened?" asked Izzy, curious about what Phin said.
"Not that it matters to you," said Phin as she looked at her hand before speaking.
"I'm sure you know my goal is to be an architect. And that stems from my father being a construction worker. All my life I've seen how he can create some amazing things from the simplest materials. You could say he inspired me to chase my dream. But then came one day when an unforeseen incident occurred. It was a normal day like any other; my father was working on another project, and they took a break. However, someone failed to double-check that the structure was in place, so it began to topple. After that day, my father was okay, but he was never the same again. If only that one idiot had made sure that iron pillar was intact, it could've been avoided. That's why I double-check and triple-check my work and my measurements to avoid anything like that happening again! And it's why you piss me off, hippie! You put stuff together without even seeing if it'll stick. Do you everything what would happen if you made something and your friends got hurt? All because of your idiocy and your ideal to just put things together because you see some magical line!"
Izzy listened closely to Phin's rant as she couldn't deny feeling sorry for the girl.
"But that's in the past," said Phin as she began to reach upward for her goggles that rested on her head. "The only thing I'm focused on right now… is beating you!" The Crystal Prep girl lowered her goggles to her face as the lens changed to red as if to signal Izzy was her target.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn!"
Turn 9: Izzy (Hand 5)
"I'm sorry," said Izzy.
"I don't need your condolences, hippie. I just need to beat you to end this!" said Phin.
"Then let's end this!" said Izzy as she got into the competitive, fighting spirit that Phin was bringing out of her.
"Make your move, Izzy!" said Phin, ready to battle her rival to the bitter end.
"I play my spell card, One for One. So by discarding one card from my hand, I can summon my Tuningware(100/300)!" stated Izzy as her monster appeared. "Next, I use my Golem's effect to revive my Scrap Worm."
"Well, guess what, you can't have that thing attack me directly because my Double Tool C&D means you have to attack my Power Tool Dragon!" said Phin as she put an obstacle in Izzy's way.
"Good thing I got a plan. I now play my Level Mirroring. With the power of this spell, I can target one monster on my field, and it becomes the same level as a monster on your field. So my Scrap Worm is now the same level as your Power Tool Dragon. Level 7. And so now, I tune my Scrap Worm with my Tuningware!" Izzy's worm turned into seven giant green rings and circled its comrade, who turned into a single white star with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! Rise, my metal beast! Scrap Dragon(2800/2000)!" From above, a shadow flashed. It soon revealed a giant mechanical monster as steam was released from the pipes. A roar was heard as Izzy's metal-winged beast appeared, releasing some stream from its nostrils.
"Your dragon may be powerful, but even with the boost from your field spell, it doesn't stand up to my dragon!" said Phin.
"Well, let's not forget, my Tuningware's effect allows me to draw a card when I use it to synchro summon!" said Izzy as she drew her card. "Next, I activate my Scrap Dragon's special ability. Now, I target one card you control and one I control, and both of them are destroyed. So I choose my Scrap Kong and your Double Tool C&D!" stated Izzy as both cards vanished. "And without your spell card, your dragon loses 1000 extra attack points; plus, you can't protect it this time."
"You son of a bitch!" growled Phin through her goggles.
"Scrap Dragon, take aim at her monster!"
Izzy's mechanical beast opened its mouth and charged up. The fireball formed and shot forward toward the metal dragon. The fireball made contact with the dragon, and it immediately burnt up upon impact. The metal began to melt as Phin was forced to watch her monster being destroyed before her very eyes. The explosion occurred as Phin was blown back and hit the ground. She grunted as when she sat up, her monster was gone.
Phin's Life Points: 5300-
"Scrap Golem, your turn!"
The monster opened its refrigerator body as a cold breeze blew over. Phin stood her ground, not letting Izzy's attack knock her back down.
Phin's Life Points: 2800-
"And due to my Supply Squad, I draw a card since my Scrap Kong was destroyed. Then, I'll place one facedown, and that's it."
Turn 10: Phin (Hand 4)
"You may have taken down my dragon… but this duel is far from over, Izzy! I draw!" said Phin as she drew her card with intensity. "I play the spell card, Junk Box. So I can revive a Level 4 or lower 'Morphtronic' monster from my graveyard. And I choose my Morphtronic Scopen. But that's not all. Next, I play Monster Reborn to bring back my Gadget Hauler!" Phin's pickup truck rolled onto the scene as it stood beside the girl and its comrade.
"I wonder what she's planning," said Zipp as all six of them watched on.
"I now tune my Morphtronic Scopen with my Gadget Hauler!" said Phin as her microscope turned into three giant green rings that circled the pickup truck and turned into six white stars that lined up with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! Arise… Power Tool Braver Dragon(2500/2300)!" Out came an even bigger version of Phin's previous Power Tool Dragon; compared to her last one, this one had a blue shovel claw and a massive drill.
"Now I activate my monster's special ability. When it's special summoned, I can equip up to three different Equip Spell cards from my deck and/or graveyard onto my monster."
"Three?!" said Izzy.
"That's right. So, from my graveyard, I'm taking Central Shield and Double Tool C&D…, and from my deck, I'm choosing my Break! Draw!" stated Phin as all three cards appeared in card form before being sucked in by her monster.
"So what does your Break! Draw! card do?" asked Izzy as she knew what Phin's other two cards did.
"Why don't I show you! Attack her Scrap Golem!" said the Crystal Prep teen as her dragon took to the air and drove its drill into her monster as it broke apart. Izzy covered up as her monster was destroyed.
Izzy's Life Points: 3000-
"Now they're almost even," said Pipp.
"Now the effect of Break! Draw! activates. Since my monster destroyed yours, I can draw a card," stated Phin.
"Well, you're not the only one. Since my Scrap Golem was destroyed, my Supply Squad also allows me to draw a card."
"I now end my turn."
Turn 11: Izzy (Hand 4)
"My move," said Izzy as she drew her card and looked at Phin's latest monster.
"So how does Izzy beat that monster?" asked Hitch.
"I'm not sure," said Roll.
"First, by lowering my Scrap Dragon's Level by one, I can summon my Level Eater(600/0)!" said Izzy as a ladybug appeared with a single yellow star on its shell. "Then I'll tribute my Level Eater to summon my Scrap Soldier(2100/700)." Out came a robot made of mostly wires and junk parts as it came online and looked about the field.
"I then place one card facedown and end my turn."
"That's it?!" said Zipp.
Turn 12: Phin (Hand 4)
"My turn!" said the Crystal Prep girl as she looked to bring the duel to a close. "I play another Equip Spell card. Power Pickaxe! Now, I target one monster in your graveyard whose level is less than or equal to my Power Tool Braver Dragon and remove it from play. So your Scrap Archfiend is gone!"
Izzy's card appeared as it flew from her duel disk into Phin's dragon.
"Then, if my monster attacks this turn, it gains half of the attack points of the monster I chose to remove. Since your Scrap Archfiend had 2700 attack points, My Power Tool Braver Dragon gains 1350 attack points this round. And he's gonna put those extra points to use right now!" said Phin as her dragon powered up. "Take out her Scrap Dragon!"
The metal dragon took to the sky and flew toward its target. Izzy's beast saw its foe as it opened its mouth to shoot fire. Phin's dragon used its giant shovel claw to block the flames as it pushed forward. It got closer and closer before swooping up at the last second, with Izzy's dragon following it. It looked up to see its foe coming down as it drove its drill straight at its head.
Izzy's Life Points: 1150-
"Izzy!" shouted the girl's friends.
Phin smiled through her goggles as relished in taking down Izzy's monster. Her smile faded as she saw the weapons on her monster rusting and breaking down.
"What? No!" shouted Phin. "What did you do, hippie!"
"Simple…" said Izzy as she was on a knee before extending her arm out. "I activated my facedown! Scrap Crash!" A wind began to pick up from the explosion that was created by her dragon's destruction; it blew over the field as, one by one, all the spell and trap cards that were present on the field began to fly away.
"My Equip Spells!" said Phin as she saw all the bonuses she gave her dragon fly away into the tornado above them.
"With the power of my Scrap Crash trap card, whenever a 'Scrap' monster is destroyed, this card can destroy all faceup spell and trap cards!" said Izzy with a smile.
"But… but…" stuttered Phin as she couldn't believe it.
"Stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid!" said Izzy as she barked back Phin's own remark at her.
The wind finished blowing away as each girl only had a single monster on their side. But more importantly, Phin's dragon no longer had all its extra abilities.
Turn 13: Izzy (Hand 3)
"Now it's my move!" said Izzy as she looked to bring this bout to a close. "I now summon my Scrap Shark(2100/0)!" A mechanical shark appeared as steam emitted from it. "I then tune my Scrap Soldier with my Scrap Shark!" Izzy's monster turned into five giant green rings that circled its comrade and turned into four white stars that lined up with a yellow light surging through. "Double the trouble and twice the bite. This doubled-headed beast will feast! I Synchro Summon! Scrap Twin Dragon(3000/2200)!"
Phin looked up as she took in Izzy's twin-headed beast that roared upon landing.
"I then play this, the Guts of Steel spell card. So now I choose three 'Scrap' monsters in my graveyard, and you pick which one. So your choices will be my Scrap Golem, Scrap Shark, and Scrap Goblin!" stated Izzy as her cards appeared before Phin.
"I know what you're planning. Once you have you have your Scrap Twin Dragon take out my monster, you'll send your other monster in to finish me off. Well, that's not gonna happen. I choose your Scrap Goblin!" said Phin.
"Alright, then. So my Scrap Goblin will reappear on my field. Then… I activate my Scrap Twin Dragon's effect. So I select one card I control and two cards you control. So I destroy my card, and as for yours, they will go back to your hand."
"What?" said Phin as she looked at her dragon.
"But since your monster is a Synchro monster, it doesn't return to your hand. It goes to your Extra Deck," smiled Izzy.
"You weren't planning on destroying my monster, were you?" said Phin.
"Nope," responded Izzy with her cheerful smile.
Phin's dragon then changed into a white light as it shot toward the girl's duel disk. It appeared in Phin's Extra Deck as the girl looked at her duel screen before turning back to look at Izzy.
"Scrap Twin Dragon, attack!"
Izzy's monster heard the command from its mistress as it opened its mouth. It fired two fireballs that shot forward. Phin saw them through her goggles as the two fireballs condensed into one and made contact with the girl. She got blown back and off her feet before landing on the ground.
Phin's Life Points: 0-
Winner: Izzy
"Students… the winner of this duel is… Ms. Izzy!" said Vice-Prinicipal Luna.
Izzy was too stunned to process what was heard as she sat on her bottom. The crowd roared and cheered as she turned to look at her friends, who, apart from Mario, were applauding her.
"Did… I just win?" said Izzy as she looked at her friends while pointing at her.
The others all confirmed what Luna said as Mario nodded. Izzy gasped before it turned into a big smile as she got a sudden energy boost to stand up.
"YES!" shouted Izzy in a deep voice while dropping to her knees and doing two fist pumps.
The girl was having her own celebration party in her mind as she imagined herself doing backflips and confetti going off. She waved to the crowd and blew kisses at them for cheering her name.
