Amari woke up with a groan, stretching his body outwards as he glanced over at his clock.

10:30 AM.

"Maybe I should get up..." He said to himself.

It wasn't like he had anything else better to do.

He walked downstairs, his nostrils filled with the scent of what smelled like pan-fried bacon and eggs.

He looked towards the kitchen, and he saw Delia cooking breakfast, some of which was already set up on the table specifically for him; name attached to the plate and everything.

As he walked closer, it didn't take long for her to notice his presence.

"Good morning, Amari! Did you sleep well?" She asked him.

"Y-Yeah...slept just fine." He said.

It was a lie; he had a small nightmare, but at this point it was a waste of time to explain it to her so early in the morning.

"That's good to hear!" Delia exclaimed, happy that her newly-adopted son is getting somewhat better. "There's a plate at the table right there ready just for you, go ahead and eat up!" She said, as she went back to cooking.

"I will, thanks..." Amari responded, as he walked towards the table and sat down.

He stared at the plate of food in front of him for a long while.

Could he really eat this...?

Better yet, could he digest anything?

He had a second thought to just not eat the food in front of him, but he didn't want to just deny such a kind offer from his new mother, one that actually cared for him and clearly showed love for him, unlike his actual one.

He sat there, thinking and hesitating, until eventually...

Whatcha thinking about? A female-sounding voice asked him inside of his head.

"W-What the-?!" Amari exclaimed, both startled and surprised by the sudden voice in his head, which also caused him to fall over.

He heard giggling above him, one coming from a voice that sounded all too familiar from yesterday.

He looked up, and his suspicions were confirmed.

It was Mew.

"Very funny, Mew..." Amari said, slightly annoyed as he stood back up.

"Are you okay, Amari?!" Delia asked, worried and confused about what happened to him.

"I'm fine, Mom..." Amari said, sighing as he sat back down onto his chair.

Delia looked at Mew, slightly annoyed as she quickly put the pieces together on what happened.

"Mew, how many times have I told you to stop pranking people?!" She asked, slightly annoyed at the pink cat's antics.

"Mew..." Mew responded with a pout, resorting back to her Pokéspeech.

Delia sighed in response and went back to cooking.

"Just don't do it again, okay?" She asked.

Mew rolled her eyes and redirected their attention back to Amari.

So, what's up with the hesitation on eating? She asked him.

Amari flinched again, still not used to communicating via telepathy.

"I'm just...not sure if I can digest this right now, or really anything for that matter..." He said, frowning softly. "Back when I used to live with my actual parents...I wasn't allowed to eat...and when I did eat...it didn't stay inside for very long..." He explained.

I see...that must've been difficult to deal with... Mew said, frowning as she began to feel both anger and disappointment in Amari's parents. But, that doesn't mean you should at least TRY to eat, right? She asked, looking at him.

"..." Amari hesitated to reply, staring back at the food in front of him.

C'mon Amari, you're not gonna get any better if you don't eat SOMETHING. Mew said.

"I-I know that..." Amari said, looking at his plate of food again.

It wouldn't hurt to try, would it...?

Ugh...screw it... Amari said in his head, as he picked up his utensil, and took a bite.

And then another.

And another.

And another...

Eventually, his plate was completely empty.

"That was..." Amari said, stunned.

Good, right? Mew asked, finishing his sentence.

"Y-Yeah...very good..." Amari admitted, blushing slightly.

See? I knew you would enjoy it! Mew chirped, giggling.

Amari scratched the back of his head as he blushed slightly more. "Yeah, yeah...no need to make a big deal about it..."

"Well, it is your first actual meal in years." Another voice suddenly spoke out, catching the two's attention.

Amari turned around and saw what was now his younger step-brother, Ash.

"Looks like someone enjoyed breakfast." Ash joked, giving off his signature smirk.

"Yeah..." Amari said, blushing slightly even more.

"Calm down Amari, I was just joking with ya'." Ash said, placing a hand on the his shoulder.

"R-Right, sorry..." Amari said.

Ash, could you not be disruptive for one morning? A deep, masculine voice rang inside of the two boy's heads.

They turned to see both Mewtwo and Newtwo, seemingly just waken up.

"Oh, calm down! I was just playing around with them!" Ash said, pouting slightly.

Mewtwo groaned and pinched his temples.

Ugh, whatever...I need a cup of tea...maybe two... He said, as he levitated away from the two, but not before looking at Amari.

You.

Amari froze, startled by being suddenly addressed by the intimidating psychic.

"Y-Yeah...?" He asked, a bit nervous on what the psychic Pokémon could want from him.

I need to talk to you later, it's...important. Mewtwo said, as he turned around and levitated towards the kitchen counter.

"U-Uhm...okay..." Amari said, a little confused and concerned about what the two could possibly discuss.

He thought of a plethora of possibilities, but most of them seemed unlikely.

He sighed, shaking his head to bring himself out of his thoughts.

He didn't need to think about this right now.

He didn't want to think about this right now.

This was his new life, and he was going to spend it trying to find a way to use this freedom he finally had been gifted.

"Hey Mom, I'm gonna go outside for a walk, is that okay?" Amari asked Delia.

"Sure sweetie! Just make sure to be back before dinner." Delia replied with a warm smile.

Amari couldn't help but smile softly at his step-mother's kindness. It felt like as if he finally had someone he could really call his "mother".

You wouldn't mind if I tag along, would you? A familiar female voice rang inside of his head, causing him to turn around and see Mewtwo's brother, Newtwo.

"Oh, uhm...are you sure...? You haven't really eaten or anything..." Amari said, unsure.

Delia is still cooking, and I would like to spend some time getting to know you; I haven't really had the chance to do so with any other human. Newtwo said.

"Well, if you're up for it...sure." Amari said, shrugging. "Just let me go get my hoodie. "He continued, as he quickly walked up the stairs to retrieve his hoodie.

Take your time. Newtwo said, leaning back against the wall behind her, her tail acting as a spring to support her back.

Eventually, Amari came back down with his hoodie on, also having a fresh pair of jeans and some shoes, given to him by Oak.

"I'm ready..." Amari said, walking towards Newtwo, who was leaning next to the door.

You look good. Newtwo complimented.

"Thanks..." Amari responded, blushing slightly.

What's with the hoodie, if I can ask? Newtwo asked. It looks a bit...old. She said.

"It is...my grandmother made it herself." Amari said. "She was the only person who cared for me before she..." Amari went silent, not wanting to finish his sentence, expecting Newtwo to put two and two together.

And she did.

I see... Newtwo said. Apologies for reminding you of such a dark thought, it wasn't my intention. She added.

"It's fine, really...all in the past..." Amari said, squeezing his arm slightly to calm himself. "Now, should we head out?" He asked, changing the topic.

After you, Amari. Newtwo said.

Amari nodded his head, heading out of the door.

Newtwo then turned around to Delia, who had been watching the two talk for a while.

"Newtwo, I know it's probably asking a lot, but can you keep him safe?" She asked. "His parent's arrests are apparently on halt until the police find more evidence of their crimes, so they're likely looking for him." She said.

You have my word, Delia. Newtwo said with a confident nod.

"Thank you, it really means a lot." Delia said with a smile, before turning back towards the kitchen.

Newtwo turned back around, and exited through the door, joining Amari who was waiting outside.

Amari looked toward the forest, admiring the view of some of the grass-type Pokémon and their environment.

Beautiful, isn't it? Newtwo asked, levitating next to him to join him.

"Yeah, it really is..." Amari said, nodding his head.

It was the first time he had seen Pokémon in their true nature, after all.

He had been locked in his room for his entire life, so seeing Pokémon live like this was extremely new to him.

He couldn't be more happier to see it, if he was being honest.

Are you ready to start walking now? Newtwo asked Amari, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"O-Oh, sure." Amari said, blushing as he realized he was distracted by his own thoughts.

And so, without any further delay, the two began walking down the pathway in front of them that led into the forest.

Have you ever seen any type of Pokémon outside of the ones at your old home? Newtwo asked.

"Unfortunately, no..." Amari answered. "You, your twin, and Mew are the only three Pokémon I've seen since I've been moved..." He said.

That's just saddening... Newtwo said, frowning at Amari's response. Your family doesn't deserve you at all.

"Try telling them that..." Amari responded, looking away with a uncomfortable expression in his face, squeezing his arms slightly as he felt slight discomfort from the conversation.

Noticing his uneasiness, Newtwo tried to change the subject.

On a brighter note, do you plan on trying to capture a Pokemon, maybe as a pet? She asked.

Amari sighed softly, grateful that she changed the topic, as he furrowed his brows to think.

"Well, I've always wanted a...Eevee?" Amari said. "I think that's what it's called, yeah..." He continued. "It's like a mix between a bunny and a fox; long, fluffy tail, brown fur, brown eyes..." He explained, describing the Pokémon in question.

Yeah, that's an Eevee. Newtwo said, nodding her head. Any reason?

"They just look comfortable...and they look pretty friendly, at least when compared to other Pokémon..." Amari answered.

Newtwo nodded once more, turning back to look at their surroundings, smiling as she saw where they were heading.

I see...that's a pretty good reason. She answered. We're heading into Pallet Town, by the way. She continued. I can't be exposed to the village for personal reasons, so I can't walk in with you. She said.

"O-Oh, alright." Amari said, suddenly surprised by the information.

Why couldn't she be seen in public?

It wasn't like she was in danger...was she?

Amari shook the thoughts out of his head as quickly as they appeared.

I'll be heading back, stay safe. Newtwo said, turning around and floating back towards where the two walked from.

Amari watched her float further and further away, until she was out of sight. He then turned around and looked towards the Town of which he used to live at only a day ago.

Maybe I should go see Oak... Amari thought to himself inside of his head, as he began walking down towards the town.

Amari looked around towards the town in awe.

Despite living there for all of his life, he still had never seen the outside of it because of how long he was trapped inside of his own room due to his family's abuse.

It was...nice, to say the least.

He saw Oak's laboratory on his left, and began making his way over.

Little did he know, he was being watched...

"So, the little shit thinks he can do whatever he wants now, huh...?" A deep, masculine and creepy voice whispered, watching Amari from afar.

"I'll show him..." The voice said, as it walked away from it's hiding spot, seemingly looking like it wasn't there in the first place.

Meanwhile, Amari knocked on the door of Oak's apartment.

"Coming!" An all too-familiar male voice said from the inside.

A few seconds of waiting, and the door was opened by the scientist, who smiled brightly once they recognized who had knocked on their door.

"Amari, it's a pleasure to see you again!" Oak said.

"H-Hey Grandpa..." Amari said, still trying to get used to describing Oak as his Grandfather.

"Well, don't just stand there; come in!" Oak said, stepping to the side to allow Amari to enter. "I actually wanted to contact you later today, but now is good time than any." He continued.

"A good time for what...?" Amari asked, a little skeptical.

"Calm down, it's nothing bad." Oak said dismissively.

"Than what is it?" Amari said, tilting his head.

"You'll see, just follow me." Oak replied, walking ahead of Amari.

"Okay..." Amari said, as he walked behind Oak.

He thought of what Oak could possibly need to show him of all people...

Someone he barely met a day ago is already treating him like he's a actual family member...

It wasn't bad or anything, but...it felt weird.

"We're here!" Oak said, snapping Amari out of his thoughts.

Amari looked around, seeing technology everywhere.

"So, what exactly did you want to show me...?" Amari asked.

"Right, right." Oak said, as he walked over and grabbed a oddly shaped ball.

At least, that's what it looked like to Amari.

Oak pressed the middle button on the ball, and threw it to the ground.

Upon nearly coming into contact with the floor, the ball bounced softly, before opening and releasing a beam of energy that materialized into a Pokémon.

Amari stared as he watched the beam of energy materialize, until it finally formed into...

No...

He didn't.

Amari stood in shock as he saw an Eevee.

It was his favorite Pokémon in the world, the only Pokémon he knew of, actually.

"I-Is that a...?" Amari asked, pointing out a shaky finger towards the small Pokémon in front of him.

"It is indeed, my boy." Oak said, nodding his head.

The Eevee looked up towards Amari, as it then let out a loud"Eevee!"before jumping into his arms.

Amari was taken aback as he quickly caught the Eevee due to reflex, and looked at it, his eyes becoming watery.

"O-Oak, surely you aren't...giving this to me?" He asked, his voice in disbelief.

"I am, Amari." Oak responded with a warm smile, nodding his head.

Amari froze, tearing up was he let Oak's words sink in.

He then ran over and hugged Oak as tightly as he could.

"T-Thank you..." He said, his voice wavering with emotion.

"It's my pleasure, my boy." Oak said, rubbing Amari's head.

"So, what do you plan on naming it?" He asked Amari, staring between him and the Pokémon in his arms.

Amari looked down at the Eevee which was currently snuggling him close, basking in his warmth.

"I'll name her...Tera." Amari said, smiling softly as he squeezed his new Eevee softly.

Eevee chirped in response to the name Amari gave her, smiling brightly.

"That's a beautiful name for a Pokémon, and your Eevee here seems to agree." Oak said.

"I'm glad..." Amari said, petting Tera, who purred in response. "Was...was this all you needed me for?" He then asked. "It's getting pretty late..." He added, looking outside to see the sun now setting.

"Ah, indeed it is..." Oak said, frowning softly at how fast time seemed to pass during the two's conversation, but quickly smiled again.

"Looks like it would be time for you to leave; Delia's probably worried sick about you." Oak said.

"Yeah, I'll go ahead and head out, yeah?" Amari asked.

Oak nodded his head. "Go on, and tell the others I said hello." Oak said.

"Will do, thanks, Grandpa." Amari responded, as he closed the door to the Laboratory, leaving to make his way home with his newly adopted Eevee.

Okay, this chapter took a good bit to write, can't really focus much on writing due to high school nearing it's end, and it's senior year for me, so I'm trying to focus on that now.

Chapter 4 will be ready soon, so stay tuned!
