Sorry for the long wait guys. I really don't have an excuse, but I'm going to try to upload more frequently, no promises though. I have the next few chapters already planned out I just gotta actually write them lol. Anyway We are going to be changing POVs to Annie for a while, enjoy
The ship sped its way through the sea back to The Warriors hometown, Liberio. Annie leaned over the deck of the ship staring down at the passing water. It was funny, she had dreamed of this moment ever since she landed on that so called island of devils, yet instead of joy or excitement all she felt was anger and a heartbreaking regret.
Below the deck of the ship, Eren, was gagged, and in chains. No doubt spending every moment thinking about how he hated Annie for her betrayal, and planning a way to escape and kill her.
Annie couldn't even blame him, she hated herself just as much as Eren probably did. How could she be so stupid let herself fall for a man she knew she'd have to capture one day? As soon as everyone saw him emerge from his titan in Trost she should have cut off anything they had during boot camp.
Part of her wished the bullshit Marleyan propaganda about Paradis had been true. If they had all been devils, with nothing but evil in their hearts the mission would have been so much easier. But of course it wasn't true, she'd always known it wasn't true.
Eren was nice, full of hopes, dreams, and ambition. Armin to, and even Mikasa. None of them deserved the horrible fate they would suffer at the hands of Marley.
Eren would be eaten, and his powers given to a warrior. Then there was poor Armin. It probably would have been a mercy to kill him back on Paradis. Marleys going to torture him for any extra information about the island thanks to Reiners lie about him being a commander's son. Hell they may torture him just cause they get bored, then eventually toss him back on Paradis as a mindless titan.
Ironically the one she liked the least, Mikasa, had the best chance of living. She wasn't even Eldian. The story Reiner made up of her may actually end up saving her life.
"You gotta get yourself together." Reiners said quietly from behind her. He leaned over the side of the ship next to her. His face was hard to read, he looked as calm and collected as he always did. She wondered if he regretted what they had done on Paradis, but she was too angry to ask.
"Fuck off, Reiner." she snapped. Annie considered punching him in the throat at the moment.
"Look I get it."You're hurt, it couldn't have been easy-"
"Don't, Reiner. You make me do all the dirty work on the island. Sneaking around at night, killing Marco, getting close to Eren. Don't try to come over here and pretend like you want to comfort me now that it's all over."
Reiner was silent for a moment. He just looked over the edge of the ship for a moment.
"If you want to hate me that's fine, but you can't act like it here. They're watching us. If they see you regretting what we did on the island they'll feed you to another warrior and send your dad to Paradise. don't let everything you worked for all those years on the island go to waste." Reiner said.
"What, now you care what happens to me?" Annie said.
"I always cared." Reiner raised his voice slightly. "I made a promise all three of us would go home together, everything I did was for that promise."
"You keep telling yourself that!" Annie said, much louder than she intended. Her eyes shot around the deck to see if anyone had heard her. Hopefully the sound of the ship crashing through the waves was enough to drown out her words. When she saw the coast was clear she leaned back over the ship look at the waves again.
"You know what's horrible? Erens dream was to see the sea. Now he's being shipped across it in a dark cell where he can't see anything." Annie choked on her words as tears began to flow off her face into the sea.
Reiner stood in silence for a moment watching her sob. "Just remember, you're finally gonna see your dad again. You'll see it was all worth it." Reiner turned to leave her. "Remember, don't let them see you crying Annie."
Times like this made her wish Reiner was the one eaten instead of Marcel. He had some nerve to act like he cared about her now. Just a few weeks ago in Trost he was questioning her and her fathers loyalty to Marley, right before forcing her to kill Marco for a mistake HE made. Something he didn't have the balls to do himself.
Despite how much she hated Reiner, he was right about one thing. Soon she'd be with her dad again. She just hoped it really was all worth it.
The coast of Libero came into sight after a few more hours at sea. The mighty battleships that lined the docks and the walls of the internment zone made up the skyline of her home.
As they got closer Annie's anxiety rose. Her anger and regret were pushed aside for a new fear, her father.
It has been seven whole years since she last saw her dad. He wasn't even her birth father, he had adopted her after being abandoned as an infant. Her entire childhood was nothing but brutal training every single day. Her father put her in the warrior program as soon as she was old enough, and when she wasn't training there he was beating his own martial arts training into her at home. He told her the only reason he adopted her was for her to become a warrior and get him honorary Marylean status. She hated him growing up, the moment she broke his knee in training was one of the most satisfying moments she could remember.
Yet on the day she was set to head to Paradis her fathers words were the only thing that gave her the determination to make it back home. He told her to come back to him. It was the only compassion he'd ever shown her, but those few words were somehow enough to promise herself to make it back home to him. Those words are enough to make her betray Eren.
Annie went down the ship's ramp after it had docked at Liberios port. There were only a few people waiting for them on the shore. Commander McGrath, the man in charge of the Warrior unit, and responsible for all of their training. She hated him as much as the other Marlyean officials. But she didn't care about him right now. He was behind him, even though his leg was crippled he still stood strong waiting for her.
Tears began to form in Annies eyes as she got closer to him. Her whole purpose for pushing on all those years, the reason she did all of those horrible things on Paradis, the reason she betrayed Eren was finally only a few feet away from her.
She paused inches from her dad. She could tell he was holding back his own tears.
"Hi dad." she said, her voice was barely above a whisper.
"Annie, my child."
Annie embraced him as tight as she could, letting the tears run freely down her face. "I told you I'd come home."
"I knew you would, Annie. I knew you would."
As they hugged Annie caught a glimpse of Eren from the corner of her eye. He was being led from the ship. His arms were bound and a cloth gag was stuffed into his mouth.
All of the joy of finally being reunited with her father couldn't dull the horrible feeling of regret knowing the hell she had led Eren Jaeger into.
