"So, what's on our agenda for today?"

Several days later, Reno and Alia were sitting on the couch watching TV, debating about what activities they should partake in. They had just finished eating a light lunch and lounged, enjoying each other's company. Reno held a beer in his hand while Alia held the blanket she was crocheting, her fingers moving swiftly with each stitch. She moved her eyesight from her project to Reno, able to stitch and glance away simultaneously.

He shrugged. "We could always have a lazy day. I did have to go to work yesterday, but Rufus let me have today off as compensation since I'm supposed to be on vacation. We could stay here, drink some beers, maybe make more brownies? Catch up on some movies?" Reno toggled the idea, tilting his head back and forth.

"Hmm…the does sound fun." Alia held the blanket before her. "I could always try and finish this, though it'll take some time."

"How much do you have left?" Reno eyed the blanket, loving the pattern and color his girlfriend chose. He knew crocheting calmed Alia's mind, and considering the revelation she had given days prior, Reno wanted nothing more than for her to relax and be calm.

Alia considered her answer as she stared at the blanket. "Honestly? Probably not much more. Since it's a baby blanket, it shouldn't be too big, but…I also want it to be a nice size so the baby can grow with it." Peering off to the side, Alia rummaged through the basket on the floor, holding her yarn. She was quiet for a moment before cursing under her breath. "…aw shit."

"What's wrong?"

Falling into the couch cushions, she frowned, sighing in disbelief. "I can't believe this…I'm almost out of my yarn."

Reno whistled. "How much do you have left?"

Alia immediately held up the tiny ball still connected to her blanket. "This is all I have, which will last me maybe half a row." Scratching her cheek, she sheepishly asked, "Mind if we hit the craft store first? I swear we can have a lazy day when we get back."

The redhead couldn't help but smile at her cuteness. "Of course, peaches. You wanna take the bike or walk?" Downing the rest of his beer, Reno stood and deposited the empty glass in the recycle bin in the kitchen. Stepping back into the living room, he leaned against the back of the couch, awaiting her answer.

Peering upward at her boyfriend, she smiled. "I say we walk. It's not that far, and the weather looks lovely outside."

"Alrighty then." Standing at full height, Reno stretched his lean back. "Let's get this shenanigan out of the way."

"Is it that much of a nuisance that we're leaving?" Alia frowned.

Kissing the top of her head, Reno smiled. "Not at all, peaches."

Grabbing her sandals, Alia slipped on her shoes and grabbed her wallet, placing it in her pocket rather than carrying her purse. Locking the door, Reno and Alia stood hand-in-hand while waiting for the elevator to take them to the main lobby. They occasionally shared a shy glance at each other, a different type of intimacy having been born from their conversation several days prior. Though they hadn't pursued a more physical relationship, Alia could feel a difference. It was as if she craved Reno's touch more. She loved feeling his skin before, but now that he knew of her long-held secret, she wasn't as scared.

But the woman wanted more. Since that night, Alia had pondered what their relationship would be like if they had sex. Would it be magical? Would she be frightened like she told Reno? Would she be any good? Or, her worst nightmare, would she freak out during sex? All these questions and more plagued her mind, and though she tried brushing them off, nothing worked. They were there in the back of her mind, and she knew she'd have to face them relatively soon.

For now, she would live in the moment. She would thrive on this new intimacy with Reno.

Exiting the lobby into the open air, Alia shielded her eyes from the afternoon sun. The weather outside was perfect, with very few clouds cradling the sky. It had rained the day before, leaving a fresh scent in the air, cleansing her lungs. The woman smiled.

After the meteor attack on Midgar and the frantic construction of Edge, there had been some time when the sun hadn't been visible. It took several weeks before the clouds dissipated, and the sun was able to brighten the lives of those who had survived the attack from Sephiroth. Now, just over two years later, the sky had never looked cleaner. There was no pollution surrounding Edge. If anything remained, it lingered toward Midgar, but even now, that was rare. Life wasn't like it was before. The surrounding environment still suffered, but Alia swore she saw a difference. And that difference started with the sky.

Catching Alia's movements from his peripheral, Reno glanced downward at the beautiful woman who still clutched his hand tightly. He realized this would be one of the few times they had been in public together. They didn't mind being seen together in Kalm, but it was a different story in Edge. He knew of Alia's desire to keep their relationship a secret from her friends - a matter he understood completely. And since they were still a secret, being out and about in the city together meant their secret could be discovered. But Reno didn't care. If others learned they were together, then hell be damned because Aliana Strife was worth everything.

Sensing an eye on her, Alia looked upward to see a tiny smile on her boyfriend's face. "What?"

The redhead didn't even know he was smiling. He should have known because it came so quickly now. Several years prior, it wasn't easy to find reasons to smile. But now? It was second nature. And, of course, it was all because of Alia. She was his reason to smile; she was his reason to care and to love. Alia was the most outstanding person he knew, especially now he knew her darkest secret. The woman was strong beyond comparison, and Reno had to remember that he was blessed to have her by his side. Just as he chose her, Alia also chose him.

Smirking, the man did his best to be sly. "Oh, nothing, nothing at all." The woman chuckled beside him.

"Oh yeah, sure, it was nothing."

Reno still smirked when a question popped into his head. "Hey, since we're out, is there anything else you need besides yarn?"

"Hmm…" Alia thought for a second. She thought she had everything; all she needed was yarn. She could easily go back out and purchase whatever she needed if she missed something. Alia knew there was more she wanted to buy Yuffie and Vincent but knew she had already spent more than enough for their baby. "I think I just need yarn. At least for now. I really wanna buy more stuff for them, but I can't." Sheepishly, she added, "I've already bought way too much."

A bellowed laugh left Reno's lips. "At least you can finally admit it, yo. I knew you were gonna buy too many things even before you went shopping."

Shoving his side gently, Alia was quiet. "Oh, hush, you."

He kissed her crown. "I'm just messing, peaches." They walked in silence for a moment. "But," he then said. "You sure yarn's all you need?"

"I'd rather just buy what I need than overspend. You know I can be slightly frivolous with my money."

"Ohhh, yes, I've seen you in certain stores. You're scary."

Alia gasped. "I'm scary? What the hell?"

"Only slightly," Reno pinched his fingers together. Letting go of her hand, the redhead wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling the woman closer. He kissed her head affectionately. "I love you, Aliana. You deserve everything in this world."

The woman's heart melted at his words. "You're such a softy at heart, Reno Sinclair. You deserve the world just as much as me." Reno pouted at her words. Seeing this, Alia asked, "What's wrong?"

"You didn't say it back."

"Didn't say what…? Oh." Chuckling, Alia smiled brightly at her boyfriend. "I love you too, my cocky redheaded boyfriend."

"But I love you more. And you better remember that, peaches."

"I don't think so. I love you more."

They spent the next ten minutes arguing over such a conversation. Barely missing the craft store, the couple had to retrace their steps, realizing they had walked right by the storefront. Outside, the sign said Joy's Crafts and the window was decorated with flowers and merchandise. The image made Alia smile as the owner changed the display window for every season, something she loved with every passing year. Reno held the door open for Alia as she stepped inside. The coolness from the air conditioning hit their skin, causing the woman to shiver slightly as Reno sighed in contentment.

The last behind the counter heard the bell toll as she glanced up from the register. "Why, if it isn't Alia! Welcome, dear, welcome!"

Stepping toward the front counter, Alia shook the owner Joy's hand. "Joy, it's so good to see you. How've you been?"

The older woman shrugged. "Eh, can't complain. Business has been somewhat slow, but everything's all good."

That made Alia smile. She had met Joy not long after the destruction of Midgar when the citizens were building Edge. She needed some yarn and stumbled upon this new establishment only to discover it was the perfect place to purchase her crochet materials. The owner, Joy, was too happy to help Alia find what she was looking for. Needless to say, a friendship bloomed between the two, and they have remained friends since then. Joy had even given Alia a discount now and then to show her appreciation for what she did to save everyone from Midgar and to help build the new city.

But Joy grasped Alia from her reverie. "Ah, I see you brought Reno this time. How're you, Mr. Redhead?"

Chuckling at the woman's antics, Reno raised a hand in greeting. "I'm good, ma'am. You said you're doing well?"

"As good as I can be." Turning to her female customer, Joy leaned across the counter. "He's got some pretty good manners, eh?"

The blonde smiled. "Eh, sometimes. And sometimes he decides not to use them, though I know they're there." She elbowed Reno in the side and snickered.

"Oh, haha, ladies. Say what you want, but the infamous Reno acts appropriate when he deems it's necessary."

"Oh, I seriously doubt that," Alia rebuked with a slight grin.

"So, you doubt my awesomeness?" Reno raised a playful eyebrow.

"Can't doubt what you don't have." The female attempted to say it without giggling but failed, forcing her to hold a hand against her mouth.

Going along with her antics, Reno rolled his eyes. "Whoa, now that's just mean, Aliana."

Interceding such a conversation, Joy quickly said, "How now, hey now, you two, calm down." Their eyes peered at her. "Do you two always bicker like this?"

Both the blonde and redhead glanced at each other and smiled. Alia was the one to ask, "We were bickering?"

"…yes?" Joy replied slowly. "What, you didn't think you were?"

They both laughed as Alia leaned into Reno's side. "No," Reno stated. "I guess this is who we usually are. I knew she was joking."

"Same with him," Alia used her thumb to point at Reno.

Eyeing them curiously, Joy then smiled. Whistling, she said, "Damn. You two are such an odd couple."

Simultaneously, they both said in unison, "Thank you!"

The owner merely laughed, waving off their antics. "Alright, alright. Love the small talk, but this is my business. Alia, what're you here for?"

Remembering what she was there for, Alia leaned in closer. "Do you remember I came in a few weeks ago and bought several skeins of soft yarn for a baby blanket? It was a turquoise color with a little hint of green?" Smiling, Alia tilted her head. "I was wondering if you had any more left."

Grasping her chin, Joy thought for a moment. "I…yeah, I remember the yarn you're talking about. I might have some on the floor, but let me check the back. How many do you think you need?"

Counting on her fingers, Alia said, "Two, maybe three."

Joy nodded, stepping through a door behind her into the back. Alia glanced at Reno just as he stared at her. Both could feel the redness coat their cheeks. The blonde was the first to divert her attention, causing the redhead to chuckle at her antics. Opening her mouth to speak, Alia wasn't given the chance when Joy stepped back through the door with the materials in her hands.

"You are one lucky customer, Aliana. I found these exactly where I left them last time." Placing the three skeins on the counter, Alia stepped forward and touched them all, seemingly happy. "These the ones?"

"Yes, this is exactly what I need!"

Chuckling herself, Joy blew on her finger. "Damn, I'm just that good. So, you need all three?"

"If I only use two, can I return the third one?"

"Of course! I'll give you store credit or gill if you do, whichever you prefer."

"Perfect."

Ringing up the price on the register, Joy placed the reins in a bag. Wanting to make more small talk, she asked, "So, who's the blanket for, if I may ask? You were kinda talking about it last time."

"A friend of ours is due in a few months, and I wanted to do something nice for her. I'm good at crochet, so I thought a homemade blanket would be a nice memory for their first child."

Joy smiled brightly. "My, Alia, that's very sweet of you! Do you know what the gender is?"

Alia shrugged. "I don't, no, and I have no idea if they do either. I know blue-ish colors are technically garnered to boys, but…I love blue, so that's what they're getting." She and Joy chuckled at that, Reno merely watching the conversation on the sidelines.

"You'd be surprised. Some parents discover the gender and prefer keeping it to themselves until the baby is born. Some like the surprise on everyone else."

Tilting her head, Alia hadn't thought of that. "Some parents do that?"

Joy nodded. "That's what my husband and I did when we had kids." Patting Alia's arm across the counter, Joy said, "Just wait until you have kids. It'll make more sense then." She winked in Reno's direction, whose back stiffened, cheeks burning red. Alia's eyes widened at that, thinking of Joy's statement. If Joy noticed the difference between the couple, she said nothing. "Alright." The owner's vice brought both of them back from their stupor. "That'll be twenty-eight gil."

Reaching into her pocket to grasp the necessary bills, Alia froze when she noticed Reno handing his card to Joy, who ran the plastic before the blonde could say anything. She only said something once Reno had his card back. "Hey - hey! Why're you paying? This is my purchase."

Shrugging, Reno was nonchalant with his answer, but his eyes were smiling. "I wanted to treat you, that's all." Not sure what to say, Alia mumbled a quiet 'thank you' before pocketing the money she would have used.

Joy, watching the entire ordeal, merely smiled. "Let him treat you now and then, Alia. Remember, he's showing his manners." Both she and Alia chuckled at that. Saying their goodbyes, the couple stepped outside, again blinded by the sunlight. They watched the other citizens mull around as they stood, walking to and fro from their desired locations.

Tugging on her head, Reno glanced down. "Hey, you alright?"

She was curious about his question. "I think so? Why wouldn't I be?"

"You, well…" Reno thought for a moment. "When Joy mentioned you becoming a parent, your face kinda changed."

"Oh," Alia whispered, not knowing he had noticed.

"Were you bothered by her comment?"

"Not really." She shook her head. "I just…it's still the idea that I'm not sure I'm meant to have kids. It's weird to think about having such an experience when I don't know if that's what I want."

Facing her, Reno cupped her cheek, keeping her attention on him. "Hey, listen to me. Don't overthink it." He skimmed his thumb over her soft cheek. "That's a conversation we probably should have down the line, but…is it a concern right now?"

The blonde didn't know how to answer at first. "I-I mean…don't you think that's something we should be talking about?"

"Possibly, but I'm ok with either choice."

That surprised Alia. "You…don't care whether you have kids or not?"

Silent for a moment, the redhead then shrugged. "I'm kinda in your boat, unsure whether it's meant to be for me. But what I do care about is your decision." Leaning down until their foreheads were touching, Reno continued. "I'm ok with either way. If you want kids, then I do, too. If you don't, then I'm perfectly fine with that."

"But, Reno - "

"My life is meant to be with you, Aliana." He kissed her temple. "Anything else added to that equation would be a bonus but unnecessary."

Considering his words, Alia found herself smiling. Everything Reno said was clear, as it caused her heart to soar. Maybe…maybe that's exactly what she needed to hear because it was everything she held dear. The thought of children was nice, but she, at that moment, wanted Reno and only Reno. But she agreed with the redhead that anything added to their family of two would be a bonus.

She really liked that analogy.

"I…you explained that well, Reno. I liked it."

"Heh," he offered her a cocky smile. "Not gonna lie, it felt like I pulled that outa my ass."

"Maybe you did, but it worked." Taking hold of his hand, Alia pulled it to her mouth and kissed his fingers. "How about we head back? I want more brownies."

Taking a step forward, Reno mimicked her action and kissed her fingers, too. "Then brownies you will get. Should we add something to make them better?"

She instantly shook her head. "We shall do no such thing. Box brownies deserve to be baked as instructed. That's what makes them delicious."

"Then I shall have to agree with you, peaches."

They walked off in peace toward home. Hand-in-hand, the couple continued their conversation on the way home, enjoying each other's company more than anything else. Reno still had several days left of his vacation and planned on using them to his advantage. He would spend every waking moment with Alia, making up for lost time when he had been away for a month. They kept their attention on each other, ignoring those around them.

However, Alia turned her head backward, sensing someone watching her. She hadn't said anything to Reno, but since leaving the store, she sensed a different set of eyes was on her back. Alia couldn't put a finger on it. Not wanting to mention this to Reno, Alia kept this secret, smiling at her boyfriend the entire way home. She only felt safe when she was with Reno, and the moment they entered the lobby of their apartment building, Alia's shoulder relaxed.

~ oOo ~

"Oh my god…did you see that?"

Standing several stores away from Joy's Crafts, a petite woman held one hand against her lower back and the other over her swollen stomach. She had just witnessed a sight she never would have believed possible. The sight left her speechless as she gawked at the man beside her. The woman grabbed her husband's leathery shirt sleeves, tugging until he focused his attention on her.

Eyebrow raised at her, the male asked, "What were you looking at?"

Lifting her finger, the woman pointed to a couple holding hands not so far into the distance. "I'm pointing right at it. Can't you see? Are you seeing what I'm seeing?! This is serious, Vincent!" She continued to pull at her husband's sleeve, exasperated by what her eyes had just witnessed.

"Yuffie…" Vincent sighed. His eyes followed her pointed finger to see what she was talking about. Lo and behold, Aliana stood clasping hands with Reno Sinclair of the Turks. "Well, I did not see that coming."

Reaching under her husband's cloak, Yuffie grabbed his phone, quickly sliding through his minimal contacts, searching for one specific number. "I need to call the group and tell them about this. We're all meeting at the bar later anyways."

With an eyebrow raised, Vincent wanted to question his wife's motives. "You sure that's a good idea?"

Staring incredulously at her husband, Yuffie was appalled, confused as to why he was asking. "Oh, yes, it is! I sure as hell am not gonna let Aliana get away with this! That's…!" She searched long and hard for the best word. "It's treachery!"

Sighing once more, Vincent rubbed the back of his neck, knowing that Yuffie was now on a mission and couldn't be stopped. There was no way he'd be able to change her mind, especially after witnessing the spectacle between Aliana and Reno. Why are they together? His mind couldn't help but ponder. "Do what you want, Yuffie. Just don't come screaming at me if this bites you."

Staring at her husband, Yuffie puffed her cheeks. "Vincent, this needs to happen. How could Aliana do something like this? With a fucking Turk, of all people?!" Finally dialing the number, she waited several seconds before the person on the receiving end answered. "Tifa? It's me, Yuffie. Hey, everyone's still planning on meeting at the bar soon, right? Why I'm asking? Because we have an emergency! No…no, it's not about the baby. Just listen, alright?" As she waited for a response, Yuffie glanced into her husband's eyes, unable to tell if he accepted her decision to make such a call.

"Yuffie, you still there?" Tifa called from the other end.

She nodded to nobody. "Yeah, I'm still here."

"You're saying we need to have an emergency meeting…why?"

"Yes! It's exactly as I've said!"

Tifa sighed. "What's this about, Yuffie? I'm confused."

Not knowing what else to say, Yuffie asked, "I'm curious. Is Aliana with you right now?"

"No, she's been visiting a friend in Kalm for the past few days, that's why she won't be there tonight. Why?"

"I'm about to tell you where she's really been."

~ oOo ~

Stepping onto their floor, Alia opened the door for Reno to enter first. Once the door was shut and locked, she headed straight for the kitchen to grab some water, to which she chugged the entire bottle in several gulps. When done, she grabbed another for her and one for Reno, who drank his as well, though not as much as her. Once their thirst was sated, they moved back to the couch when they collapsed against the cushions and sighed.

Alia chugged more from her second water. "Damn," Reno whistled. "Thirsty much?"

She huffed, slightly out of breath. "Water just sounded good; I guess my throat was parched." She placed the bottle on the side table, grabbed the remote, and turned on the TV to find something to watch. "So, have we agreed on something to watch, or are we still undecided?"

Reno shrugged. "Still undecided."

"Anything in particular sound good?"

"Something actiony, I think."

"…something actiony…got it." The blonde knew exactly what her boyfriend meant. Searching through the endless channels, it took several minutes before she found one of Reno's favorites. "Hey, does this work?"

Wrapping an arm across the cushion, Reno leaned backward. "Works perfect for me, peaches."

They fell into a comfortable silence. Reno watched his movie while Alia's attention was focused both on the TV and her blanket. She instantly set out to continue where she left off with a new skein of yarn, able to continue her progress to finish the project as soon as possible. As before, she could focus simultaneously on the blanket and the TV. Reno thought it was a strange skill, but it worked for her.

They traded commentary now and then about the movie, but for the most part, the couple stayed quiet. Reno was off in his own world just as she. Alia was thinking about what she felt earlier when leaving the shop, while Reno's mindset was different. Occasionally, he stole glances at his girlfriend, loving her focus, the way she bit her lip in concentration. Aliana Rae Strife was the embodiment of perfection in Reno's eyes, and he saw no difference even after learning her secret. Just as he told her, knowing that she had been assaulted did not deter his feelings for her. If anything, it only increased the love he held for her.

Just like earlier, Alia sensed Reno was staring. Lifting her eyes, she did see he was looking straight into her eyes. "Is everything ok?"

Looking into her different colored eyes, Reno's mind wavered at the beautiful woman before him. Of course, everything was ok, more than ok. Alia was here with him in his apartment; nothing could be more perfect. It was then he suddenly remembered everything about their relationship. The way they had met in the Sector Five slums, their fights as AVALANCHE versus the Turks, their battle to save Gaia and Midgar, meeting weeks after Midgar's fall, admitting their feelings to each other, loving each other for the past two years. He remembered it all.

All these memories were ones he cherished.

"When are you finally gonna ask her to marry you?"

Rude's comment entered the redhead's mind from several nights ago. Reno would have lied if he said he hadn't thought about it since. It had lingered at the forefront this entire time as he knew naught what to do. He wanted to marry Alia; he knew she was the one he wanted by his side. There were details here and there for how he would make it happen. He'd take Alia to Costa Del Sol and propose on the beach with the perfect ring at sunset. Rude had been right in questioning when Reno would ask Alia. The thought of marriage had been on Reno's mind for some time and had become a welcomed thought throughout the last year. Now, everything has changed positively.

One word whispered in his mind.

Today.

Today would be the day he'd ask. It was time, and though he wasn't prepared with any materials he wanted, such as the ring or the location, the redhead didn't care. The plan to propose in Costa Del Sol was now out the window. Right here, right now, was the perfect moment. Just having Alia say 'yes' was enough to push Reno to acquire the necessary items later.

"…Reno?"

He glanced at Alia, who tilted her head, reached over, and grasped his hand. The man merely stared. A sudden, sharp pang of fear captured his heart, an all-consuming angst he was unprepared for. Sitting there, Reno stared into the different colored eyes of the woman he loved, and that same fear slowly dissipated. Slowly, he inhaled a breath. Several quiet moments passed, and they stared at one another. Placing a hand over hers, Reno could feel a smile forming on his lips.

"Aliana, there's…" He cleared his throat, suddenly parched. "There's something I've been meaning to ask you. I…I haven't been sure how I wanted to ask, but…" The redhead trailed off. The fear and sudden nervousness were back, a rarity for Reno. Having never genuinely experienced nerves, this threw him off.

Quick to act, Alia grasped his cheek lovingly, caressing her fingers across the soft stubble of his growing beard. "Hey," she offered a smile when his began to fall. "Whatever it is, all you need to do is ask. Is…everything alright?"

Taking another deep breath, Reno prepared himself better. If this was the moment, he needed it to be absolutely perfect. "Ok, here it goes." Looking straight into her gorgeous eyes, Reno found the will within himself to mutter courageously, "Aliana Rae Strife, would you - "

But then the damn phone started to ring.

Cursing up a storm, Reno stomped toward the kitchen, where he left his phone, hastily swiping across the screen to answer the call. Whoever this asshole is will fucking pay! His mind raced with such thoughts. Calling out to Alia, he yelled, "Sorry, gotta take this!"

"Let me guess: work?"

"Unfortunately."

Reno entered the side dining room and placed the phone against his ear. "What is it now?!"

"Geez, a 'hello' would suffice," Rufus uttered, seemingly annoyed.

"Yes, hello, sir. How can I help you today?" The redhead added a hint of spite to his words, hoping his boss would catch on.

Rufus groaned on the other side. "Ugh, Reno…" His boss breathed.

Taking over the conversation, Reno spoke. "Sir, not that I mind the call, not at all, but…you called at the wrong time."

"Wrong time? So, you're telling me you don't want me to pass on valuable information about Aliana?"

Reno was caught by surprise at that. Peering around the open doorway to Alia, he noticed she was fixated on the TV. He quickly entered the living room without wanting her to overhear the conversation. Glancing at Alia, he said as he moved to the stairs, "I'll make this quick."

"You better," she stated somewhat sourly.

Once upstairs, Reno shut the bedroom door as he paced. "Ok, what is this call actually about?"

Rufus, once again, took a deep breath. "Tseng's discovered something."

Reno blinked. "And what would that be?"

"Since receiving the last video, Tseng's been scouring the thing like mad. Well, thanks to his efforts, he found…something. A small lead, he thinks."

Upon hearing this, Reno sat flabbergasted on the edge of the bed. "A lead? What kind of lead?"

"One that might lead us to this asshole," Rufus said with slight confidence. "Tseng and Rude left within the hour and will likely be gone for several days. I'm hoping they find something."

Having stayed silent the entire time, Reno contemplated what he learned. Based on the video, Tseng was able to discover a slight lead. But what kind? And, if it is a lead, what would it lead them to? "Sir, that's…interesting to hear. I…thank you for telling me this."

"…why do you sound apprehensive?"

"I mean…!" Shooting up from his position, Reno thrust a hand into his hair. "Rufus, where are Tseng and Rude going? What did they find?"

"I'd rather show you than tell you. You'll understand more once you see what Tseng found."

"What does that…? You know, never mind." If Rufus were asking this of him, then Reno would oblige. "When would you like me over?"

"Come over tomorrow, but bring Alia."

"Bring…Alia?" Reno blinked several times. "If you want to talk to me about Alia, why would I bring her?"

"Use this as a ruse for her to speak with Elena while we talk."

Clever. "Ah, I get it." Peeking at the time on his phone, he added, "You want us there today, when…?"

"Late morning-ish should be fine. You can make it, right?"

Taking a seat once again, Reno rubbed his cheek. "Yeah, that's no problem. I'm sure Alia'd be up to see Elena again despite it having only been several days."

Rufus sighed on the other end. "I'd appreciate that, Reno. I know you'll have to wait until tomorrow. Just think of it this way: we might have a lead to tracking this asshole down."

"And we're absolutely sure about this, sir?"

Having fallen silent, Rufus thought quickly. "It's the best we've got." But Rufus muttered before his employee could reply, "Keep an eye on her, Reno. Tseng and Rude have left the area, and with Elena out of commission, you're the only one who can help her. They could lurk anywhere, waiting for the opportune moment to strike."

Nodding his head to no one, Reno answered, "I…don't really need you to tell me that, sir. But I understand." Knowing he needed to end the call, he added, "We'll see you tomorrow."

Clicking the end button, Reno pocketed the phone before standing. Taking a moment to think, the redhead pondered what lead Tseng uncovered. What was so vital that he and Rude would pick up and leave? Did this lead to a positive notion, or would it lead to something more treacherous than they had experienced? What if their travels made the situation worse? Reno didn't want to think until he saw the information tomorrow. Knowing there wasn't much he could do, Reno trudged downstairs to find Alia staring at him when he entered the living room. It was in that stare Reno remembered what he was about to ask Alia before the call ruined everything.

"So…?" Alia began. "What did Rufus need this time? Do you have to go in tomorrow?"

Reclaiming his seat, Reno rubbed his neck. "No, I don't haveta go to work. Not this time."

"Well, that's good." She glanced back to the blanket and continued working on her crocheting. After several heartbeats, she set the yarn down and looked at him. "Then what did he need?"

Swallowing, Reno thought quickly. "Rufus didn't need anything; it's Elena."

Alia paused at that. "Elena? Is she ok? What's wrong?" She pressed Reno with more questions, who all but laughed.

"She's fine, yo. Just wants some company; she's pretty lonely."

"Oh. Oh! Was Rufus asking us to visit? Because I'll totally go and visit my best friend!" She smiled at the thought. "Maybe we could bring her flowers for her room. Think she'd like that?"

The redhead wrapped an arm over her shoulder, bringing the woman close, and kissed her temple. "You know she'd love to see you." Chuckling, Alia returned the kiss to his cheek. Stealing a peek down at her, Reno rubbed some hair away, pulling it behind her ear. "So…Elena's your best friend?"

"Yes…?" She raised an eyebrow at his question.

This caused the male to pout. "Not me?"

Alia immediately rolled her eyes. "Oh, geez, Reno." Shoving her shoulder into his, she chuckled again. "Can't both of you be my best friend?"

Rotating on the couch until he faced her, Reno continued to pout his lip. "But…who's your best best friend?"

"I am so not going down that road." Seeing how Reno wouldn't let this go, she placed the blanket on the table and captured his cheeks, squishing them in her hands. "Listen to me and listen well, Reno. Elena is my best friend, and you are too. But you, Reno Sinclair, are different." She kissed his nose. "Only you can hold the title of boyfriend, which automatically makes you my special best friend."

He smirked smugly at her comments, enjoying everything she said. "Oh, really now?"

"Yes, really," she said, kissing his nose again. "Do you doubt me?"

"I would never." Leaning forward, he captured her lips in a soft kiss, one she reciprocated instantly.

Pulling back, Reno rubbed her cheek, loving the softness of her skin. Now, he thought. Now's the perfect time. Reeling himself, he lowered his hands to grasp hers tightly. Stuttering slightly, he began, "A-Alia, I…" He was not given the chance to speak.

This time, it was Alia's phone that rang.

Rolling his eyes, Reno gave up. Maybe this is the world trying to tell me to wait, he thought angrily.

Alia tilted her head as she read the name on the screen of her phone. "Now, why…?" Swiping against the glass, she answered, "Tifa?"

"Hey, Alia. How've you been? How's your friend in Kalm?"

"My friend?" Alia raised an eyebrow. "She's…Callie's fine. Why do you ask? Do you need me back at the bar?"

"Actually…" Tifa was slow with her answer; Alia could instantly tell something was off. Peeping at Reno, who shrugged, Alia didn't know what to make of this phone call. "Yeah, I need you to come to the bar. Is there any way you can be here soon?"

"I…can? What do you need me for? It's not for the business, is it?"

"N-no, it's not for the business. I just need you for something." Alia could hear Tifa breathe on the other end; it was unsettling. Reaching for his hand, Alia grasped it. He eyed her curiously and mouthed, 'What's wrong? But all she had for an answer was a shrug and a shake of her head. "I also need you to bring Reno with you."

Snapping her head to Reno, Alia's hand holding the phone nearly dropped. "Tifa, why…" She swallowed. "Why do you need Reno?" That caught her boyfriend's attention as he cocked his head.

"Aliana, please…just get here quickly." And Tifa ended the call.

This time, she allowed the phone to drop on her lap.

Reno cupped her hands just as she set the phone on the table. "What did Tifa want?"

"She…" Alia took a moment to breathe. "She wants…both of us to go to the bar. You heard. I thought it was about the business, but she says it's not. So…I dunno!"

"Hey, take a deep breath." Once she did, Reno tightened his hands. "Everything will be fine." But she didn't calm down. "What's got you so scared?" He whispered.

She merely stared. That's all she could do for several seconds. By the time she could calmly breathe, did she say, "Because they know."

"They know?"

"Yes! Tifa knows about you and me!" Inhaling slowly, even Alia knew she needed to stop before she escalated the situation. Rubbing her cheeks, she breathed in and then out. Breathed in and then out. When she had control of her heart, she stared at Reno directly. "Don't you find it odd that she specifically asked me to bring you?"

"I, I mean…a little, yeah. But does that automatically…?" Reno stopped, refusing to say the rest of his sentence, shaking his head.

He had never been bothered by the potential Alia's friends discovering their relationship. But he knew it bothered her. He knew she wasn't embarrassed by their relationship or being with him, but because Alia didn't want her friends to look down on her. She feared their reaction. Considering Reno was a past enemy and still worked as a Turk and the enemy - potentially - she knew they would disagree with her choice.

"I know what you're thinking." He stared at her. She gave him a lopsided grin and patted his hand. "You know I don't regret what we have, right?"

"I do, I know." He gave her the same grin. "Believe me, I trust you with that. But I also understand your fear. Your friends mean much to you, and you value their opinion."

Alia cast her gaze aside. "W-well, I do value their opinion, and I'd like to think they're my friends, but…"

He finished her sentence. "You feel they don't treat you the same."

"Elena told you, didn't she?"

Reno nodded. "Don't be mad at her. She felt I deserved to know."

"Heh," she scratched her arm. "Don't worry, I'm not mad. I mean, you're right, it just…" She shook her head, smiling up at him. "It doesn't matter." She cupped his cheek. "What does matter is that I have you. I…Reno, you need to understand. I don't care what they say about us being together because they are my friends…"

"Hey, I get it." Squishing her cheeks just as she did to him, he earned a chuckle as a reward. "Listen, let's head over there and get this over with. Maybe…maybe it won't be what you think?"

"Maybe it'll be exactly as I think."

Reno flicked her forehead. "Ok, miss Debbie downer. Whatever it is you're thinking, everything will be fine. What, do you think our relationship will end because they won't approve?"

"N-no, I don't think that at all!"

He flicked her head again as she huffed in annoyance. "Then what are you worried about?"

"I…" She was lost for words. She knew Reno was right. If she wanted her relationship with Reno, why did she care so much about what others thought of it? "You know what? I have no fucking clue." Sighing, she stretched, cracking her back several times. With conviction, she glanced at Reno. "Whether they approve or not, fuck their opinion. Our relationship is more important to me than what they think."

Stroking her hand, he uttered, "That's my peaches. So." Standing, he extended his hand for her to take. "What say we get this over with, then get some dinner?"

They opted to take the bike instead of the truck. During the entire ride, Alia struggled with what was to come. Her arms wrapped around Reno's waist tightly as he sped from one side of the city to the other, quickly locating Tifa's bar. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. What if…what if…what if…? Such questions wouldn't cease, and she shook her head against the wind. She told Reno the truth, that, in the end, she didn't care about her friend's opinions regarding their relationship. What they shared was between them, not the others. And yet, it didn't stop her heart from hurting that her friends would assume she betrayed them.

Once outside the bar, Reno parked the bike, allowing Alia to step off first as he followed. He held his hand out for her to take, which she quickly grabbed, her fingers tightening around his. Leaning down, he gently kissed her temple. "I'm right by your side. Whatever they say can't tear us apart."

She inhaled deeply, taking his words to heart. She psyched herself out for the entire ride over, fearing the worst. She may not care what they thought, but she at least wanted their respect. Thinking back, she wasn't too fond of the elevation when Vincent and Yuffie exclaimed they were in a relationship or announced they were getting married. And yet, she had set aside her feelings for their happiness. Shouldn't her friends do the same for her?

Before she could ponder anymore, Reno grabbed the handle and opened the door, allowing Alia to enter first. She purposely avoided looking inside the bar, immediately casting her gaze backward to watch Reno, but once he was inside, there wasn't much she could do. The moment she did, Alia blanched. It wasn't just Tifa - it was everyone. Every single member of AVALANCHE stood inside the bar.

Tifa was behind the bar, ever working on cleaning the dishes.

Barret was sitting in the far right corner.

Cid stood against the opposite wall, a cigarette loosely held between his lips.

Nanaki was curled at the foot of the stairs with Cait Sith on his back.

Yuffie, with her pregnant belly, was seated at one of the tables while Vincent stood behind her.

The last person was Cloud, who sat at the bar, glass in hand, as he drank. His back was to her and Reno, which confused the blonde female.

It didn't bother her that everyone was there, but their stares did bother her. Their eyes showed hatred and distrust as if they knew the whole story before she and Reno could explain their side. Alia swallowed. Reno placed a hand against the small of her back, tilting his head, silently saying she needed to say something.

"Uh, h-hey, guys," she called out, stuttering over her words. Eyes finding Tifa's, she called out, "Tifa, uh, we're here. What'd you need us for?"

Tifa didn't say anything for a moment. She finished cleaning the dish in her hand as she set it to the side. "Hmm, seems interesting that you were in Kalm but were able to get here in a matter of minutes."

Alia reeled at that, having not thought of that. "Oh, well, you see…"

"Oh, shut up, Aliana." The pregnant ninja slowly stood to her feet, too stubborn to accept the aid from her husband. Once entirely on her feet, Yuffie held one hand on her growing stomach. "You have a lot of explaining to do."

Alia could feel her eyes widen slightly. From behind, Reno moved his hand to wrap around her waist and pulled her closer to his body. Since entering, the redhead could tell the vibe from her friends was off; he couldn't even tell how Alia was faring. He glanced around the room, noting everyone focused on her, not him. A scowl formed on Reno's face. Thinking that Alia would play dumb to Yuffie, he was surprised at her following words.

"…I guess I do."

"Seriously, Aliana…" Yuffie huffed. "You're the intelligent one, but I didn't think you could be this dumb."

Reno tensed, not appreciating the woman's tone. He moved to step forward until Alia held her hand out. At the moment, she didn't want him to interfere.

From behind the counter, Tifa spoke. "Alia, there's something Yuffie told us today that we need you to clarify. We deserve to hear the truth from you."

Alia's eyebrow rose. "And…what exactly would you like me to clarify?"

She watched as Tifa moved to speak but was thwarted as Cid opened his mouth. "Dammit, girl!" He cried. "Yuffie fuckin' told us that you're fuckin miss redhead next to ya," his voice echoed across the bar, causing a shiver to run down Alia's spine. She didn't appreciate the tone he was using.

"Hey, gramps!" It didn't take long for Reno to interfere, all the more ready to protect his girlfriend. Alia grabbed Reno's arm to stop him, but she knew it was futile; he was determined to put these people in their place before they could continue. "What gives you the right to speak to her in such a way?!"

Cid stubbed his cigarette in a nearby ashtray before pulling a new one from his pocket. "Don't fuckin' start with me, you asswipe! Yuffie told us what she saw, so don't go blamin' me, red!"

With her hand still on Reno's arm, Alia cautiously asked, "Yuffie, what did you see? I-I don't understand the point of this."

Before Yuffie spoke, Vincent placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, his attempt to keep her calm. "Earlier today, Vincent and I saw the two of you hand-in-hand as you acted all lovey-dovey with each other."

"Um," Alia scratched her cheek. "So, you saw us walking, and you're assumption is that we're fucking each other?" She was calm with her words. At least for that moment. Taking a step forward, she cried, "Are you fucking serious?!"

"Oh, come on, Aliana!" Yuffie cried back. "You were with Reno," she spat his name. "Reno of the Turks! Of all people!"

That's when everyone turned their attention to her. Besides Cloud, he kept his back to his sister and Reno, deciding to listen and be quiet rather than participate. Alia felt as if she was suddenly sucked into a vortex with people questioning her decisions. Not wanting to listen to such a conversation, Alia rubbed her temples, a headache forming.

It was then everyone started talking at once. First Barret, then Cait Sith, and Cid. Yuffie merely stood there with a wicked grin on her face as Vincent hung his head. Tifa stayed quiet the entire time. Eventually, Reno stepped forward, his voice entering the conversation, doing his best to defend Alia from their accusations. Her friends weren't necessarily wrong, but they weren't right either. Alia couldn't take it anymore.

"Ok, everybody, just shut the hell up!"

Their silence at that moment was louder than their words.

Staring into the eyes of every individual in that room, Alia's eyes finally landed on Yuffie. "Yuffie, we've been friends for a long time now…but what gives you the right to say such things to me? You know nothing of what you speak."

"I don't need to know anything because I know what I saw," the young ninja sneered. "Besides, what gives you the right to go behind our backs and fuck the guy who tried to kill us when we were trying to save the planet?!"

Alia fell back into Reno. Why was everyone assuming she was fucking him? Was that all they saw? In a low voice, Alia muttered, "Just because you saw him with me…that leads you to believe I'm going behind your back…?"

Barret finally entered the conversation, his deep voice echoing across the bar. "Course ya did, Aliana. You're sleepin' with the enemy."

"The enemy…?" She opened and shut her mouth several times. Sure, Shinra and the Turks had been the enemy at one point. But hadn't they shown their change of heart over the last several years? Hadn't they proven they've changed? "I…I can't believe you guys still see them as the enemy, even after everything they've done since Midgar fell."

Yuffie, Cid, Cait Sith, and Barret exclaimed, "He's a Turk!" Nanaki merely blinked his eyes as if he were agreeing with the others.

"I don't give a shit if he's a Turk!" Alia found herself screaming. She watched as Yuffie's eyes grew large, Cid drew in a sharp breath, and Barret leaned backward against the wall. As they gawked, all the while Nanaki kept his eyes closely on Alia, not once speaking his mind. Stepping beside Reno, she linked their hands together before standing on her toes and kissing the redhead's cheek. There were gasps from those around her, but she didn't care. "What Yuffie said was wrong. What Reno and I share, it's - "

"How could I be wrong?!" Yuffie interrupted. "He's just using you for your body, Aliana! Didn't you hear the stories about him before Midgar fell?!"

The blonde was sick of the conversation. This time, Reno spoke in her stead. "Yuffie, seriously, you need to learn to shut up," he growled. "You first need the facts from us, not what you conjure in your immature mind." He was growing tired of this farce, wanting to return to the apartment with Alia and enjoy their evening. "Alia and I are together. And when I say together, I mean we're in a relationship. Have been for almost two years." It was then the others gasped, and not from Reno's words.

Yuffie had stepped forward and slapped Alia across the face.

Hard.

As Yuffie's hand collided with her cheek, Alia's mouth fell. She refused to look at the other female as she gasped, "You…you slapped me."

"Yes, I fucking did! How dare you…with all the guys you can hook up with, you choose him?!"

Grasping her cheek, Alia finally glanced at the ninja. Having had enough, Alia stood her ground. "You know, Yuffie, I've kept my mouth shut for all the shit you've caused. Why does this bother you so much?" She then turned her stare to the others. "And the rest of you! How can you all stand there and back her up when you know nothing?!"

Surprisingly, Cid spoke first after several moments of silence. He extinguished the cigarette in his mouth but didn't go for another. The hardened look on his face was now gone, replaced with something Alia couldn't decipher. "Wait…you're telling us you're together with red? Yer not just screwin'?"

Alia nodded furiously. "What Reno said was the truth. It's been almost two years." Before anyone could speak, she added, "Two years! And, before any of you ask, yes, I was hiding this from you. But none of you have even asked about me in the last several years!" A hardened fist formed, one Alia kept at her side. The stinging on her face was enough to cause her eyes to grow misty. "You've talked about everything else! Cid and Shera finally getting married; Yuffie and Vincent's wedding, then the baby. Hell, even Cloud and Tifa getting together. How Barrett might be moving back to Edge." She inhaled deeply, knowing she would lose it if she didn't calm down. Reno must've sensed this, too, as he held her shoulder. "But none of you ever asked what was happening in my life. So, excuse me for keeping this from you, but you guys acted like you didn't care about me. And guess what?" She inhaled deeply. "I don't care anymore. I have Reno by my side and all my Turk friends." Reno leaned down and kissed her head. "None of you gave me the respect I thought I deserved, so I don't give a damn anymore."

As if she hadn't heard her, Yuffie said, "So, you'd rather choose them over us? Your friends?"

"You know, Yuffie, you shouldn't be giving me any crap about 'friends.' Weren't you the one that stole all our materia while you claimed you were part of our group?"

"Please! You're still holding that over my head?!"

"No, because I forgave you for that. But you're being a hypocrite - all of you are! You claim Reno's still the enemy, but he's not! I've seen the work they've done these last two years. They're doing what they can to help the planet rather than hinder it like before!"

Huffing, the ninja grasped her nose. "I cannot believe you would turn against us, Aliana."

It was then Alia chuckled from annoyance. "So…it's perfectly fine for Yuffie to marry a Turk, but I can't date one?"

"Hey!" The pregnant woman stabbed her finger into Alia's chest. "Don't you dare bring my husband into this! You know damn well that Vincent is an ex-Turk. He was on our side from the very beginning!"

Alia slapped Yuffie's hand away. "What difference does it make? Does it fucking matter whether Vincent no longer works for Shinra and Reno still does?" She moved her eyes across the room, pleading with everyone, though she knew where they stood.

Across the room, Barret sighed as he rubbed his head. "Girl, they be lying to you," he grumbled.

Alia's mouth fell open. At that moment, she knew there was no convincing them. "How could you be this - ?"

"She's not lying." Cloud, having finally raised his voice, spoke over his sister. Rotating in his spot at the bar, Cloud turned toward the others, finally speaking to use how words to end this catastrophic nonsense. "My sister's right; the Turks are not what they used to be."

Yuffie, Cid, and Barret all gasped at Cloud's admittance. They knew Cloud would stand up for his sister, but they never thought he would stand up for a Turk of all people.

"Everyone here is missing the bigger picture," the blonde continued. "My sister has found someone she's happy with. I know how he treats her." Turning in his seat, Cloud faced everyone else, though his stare focused on Reno. They shared a non-verbal understanding. "You're misjudging him before getting to know him."

Everyone fell silent as they soaked in Cloud's input. Should they believe what they initially thought? Or should they believe what Cloud stated? Reno found Alia's hand and squeezed, wanting her to know he was still there. She turned to smile at him when Yuffie was the first to speak after several moments.

"So…where the hell are you going to live?"

Alia reeled. What exactly was Yuffie trying to say? Tilting her head, she asked, "E-excuse me? Where will I live?"

"You heard me," the ninja snarled. "After everything you've spilled, it's obvious Tifa won't want you living here anymore." She then poked a finger into Alia's chest. "It's your fault you're choosing him over us."

"Woah!" Tifa dropped her towel and raised her hands in defense. "Hey now, I never said anything like that!"

"Come on, Tifa, she's dating a Turk," Yuffie spat. "Would you want this liar to be around Marlene and Denzel?"

Tifa wasn't sure what to say as she stared at Yuffie. Sure, the bartender wasn't all that happy to learn one of her close friends was dating an enemy from the past, but it's not like something she had control over that part of Alia's life. Even as she stood there watching her friend, there was something Tifa could see that Yuffie was blind to. Reno was an enemy from their past, and if Alia could see a difference in him and his coworkers, then Tifa wanted to try and see that difference as well.

"She'll live with me."

All heads turned toward Reno, who focused his stare on Alia, the only person in the room who mattered. Her eyes widened, not sure she heard her boyfriend correctly. The redhead didn't think this would be the situation he would ask her to live with me, but he also knew that this was the most crucial time to do so. "Aliana, move in with me."

Though she blinked several times, Alia couldn't keep the shock off her face. "W-what…? Are you serious?"

Pulling her close, he wrapped an arm around her waist, keeping the other on her cheek. "I want you to move in with me. You practically live there when I'm there and…I want you to." Pouting his lips slightly, the redhead added, "…please?"

Alia smiled brightly. Cupping his cheeks, she kissed his lips. "Yes. I'll gladly move in with you!" She whispered.

To ruin their moment, Yuffie spoke. "Good riddance! Reno can keep your dumb ass 'cause none of us want you!"

Alia pulled back from Reno, her mouth nearly falling to the floor at Yuffie's audacity. She was about to say something when Cloud stepped through the crowd toward his sister. The anger rolling off of him was evident.

When he was close, he spoke loud enough for only the two to hear. "Aliana, is this what you want?" She instantly nodded, a small smile forming. "Then be safe." Tilting his head toward Reno, he muttered, "Keep her safe. You have my number if you guys need me. I'll let you know when these guys cool down."

Alia jumped into her brother's arms, hugging him tightly. "Thank you, Cloud." She kissed his cheek. "I'll come by later for the rest of my stuff."

Though it was tiny, a smile was on his lips. "I'll make sure Yuffie doesn't destroy anything."

"I would appreciate that."

Reno stepped forward, shaking Cloud's hand. "I…appreciate everything, Cloud. I…never thought you'd stick up for me."

Cloud patted the redhead's shoulder. "Trust me, we'll talk later. Just call when you're ready." Reno was about to ask what he meant by that but assumed it was regarding something else. He had an idea what but wasn't quite sure. Still, Reno nodded in response.

Taking Alia's hand in his, Reno smiled at his beautiful girlfriend. "Hey, how 'bout we get the hell outa here and head home, to our home." A brilliant smile formed across her face as she readily agreed. He then turned toward the door, and she made to follow him when something called her to rotate back to her friends.

"Yuffie…I have a few words for you."

The ninja sneered. "I don't give two shits what you have to say."

"Tch, that's fine, you fucking bitch." Reno snickered from behind, attempting to cover it with a cough. Considering how sick she was of the ninja's attitude, she also wanted to. How dare she rat her out to her friends for something she knew nothing of? "You've done some crazy shit in the last couple of years, and I've always had your back. But the one time you should have mine, you betray me and think I'm a traitor."

"Because you are!" The girl nearly shrieked.

Alia rolled her eyes, finally fed up. "Oh my god, just shut the fuck up already!" That got everyone's attention. "Seriously, just…fucking grow up! You fell in love with the person who's the father of your child. Am I not allowed that? Am I not allowed the same happiness?" Alia huffed, knowing her anger was coming forth. She spoke lowly, "Whether you like it or not, I'm in love with this man. And if you refuse to see that he has changed, I don't want you in my life." And with that, Alia grabbed Reno's hands, turned, and walked out the door.

The atmosphere was tense inside the bar; everyone was stone-cold and silent. Cloud casually walked back to see his seat, ignoring the eyes of his friends as he downed the rest of his beer. Tifa handed him another, knowing he needed a second from what had happened. Gulping half the contents, he swiveled in his chair to stare at Yuffie, who had walked beside him.

"You! Cloud, you, of all people, are taking Reno's side? What the hell!"

He stayed quiet for a moment as he stared at the younger female. "Yeah, I did. What are you going to do about it, Yuffie?" He huffed, just like his sister. "I trust my sister. And honestly, I can't believe that none of you do. Alia is the only one who can tell whether he's changed, and if she says he has, we should honor her trust and believe her." He held his nose, sighing all the while. "If you're that against my sister's happiness, then get the hell out of this bar." Slamming the glass bottle onto the counter, Cloud stomped up the stairs, out of everyone's sight, leaving everyone else confused.

Tifa stared after her boyfriend, understanding completely what he was feeling. She, too, was in the same boat. First, she was shocked by the information Yuffie shared over the phone but knew she had to see the couple herself. And she did. And what she saw surprised her. Reno had been attentive through everything the others had said to Alia, and the bartender could see the love he held for her in the redhead's eyes.

In a surprisingly soft voice, Tifa uttered, "I think…I think we need to end this here for today." She took a deep breath before staring at the woman who started all this. "Yuffie…you went too far this time."

The ninja's mouth dropped. "B-but Tifa!"

Tifa merely shook her head. "No, there's no 'buts', Yuffie. Alia was right. You were given a happiness that some of us might have been against. Why doesn't she deserve the same? As far as I can tell, she's happy. And, hey, maybe she's right, and the Turks have changed. And guess what? I'm willing to believe her. " She stepped away from the counter to the stairs, moving to follow Cloud. "Consider this: is Alia the traitor, or are we for treating her this way?"

~ oOo ~

Reno was racing through Edge the moment they hopped onto Alia's bike. He wanted to be rid of Seventh Heaven and the people inside. Sitting behind him, Alia tightened her arms around Reno's back as he drove. She had yet to say a word; the redhead didn't expect her to. Not sure if she wanted to return to their now-shared apartment, Reno decided to head outside the city. Racing outside the Edge's limits, he headed straight toward Zack's sword, a place that brought peace to Alia when she needed it.

The wind snapped against their heads at the speed at which Reno was pushing the bike. He didn't care. All he cared about was giving Alia a sense of tranquility that would help her mind. He wasn't sure what she was thinking or if he wanted to. She had enough on her plate, as did he. The entire conversation at the bar pissed him off, especially when Yuffie slapped her. Oh. Reno saw red at that moment. It took all his willpower and then some not to smack the ninja. But then he remembered she was pregnant and couldn't do anything to her. The man growled. That was the only reason he hadn't done anything.

"Reno?" He could hear Alia yell over the wind at him. "Where're you going?"

"Somewhere we can talk, away from the others." She must've figured it out as she didn't speak after that.

With Reno's speed, it took only five minutes to reach their destination. When he barked the bike, he and Alia straightened, staring past the blades toward the city in the distance. Alia stood first. She walked toward the edge and sat down, swinging her legs over the cliff's edge. Reno watched from the bike. He remembered just days ago - almost a week ago - the battle that took place here with the man who fought Alia. Reno cringed. Was Alia thinking of that or not? He wouldn't ask.

Following his partner, Reno walked toward the edge, too, and sat beside her.

"Why'd you bring us here?" She didn't glance at him as she spoke.

"Thought you might like some peace to think. I…wasn't sure if you wanted to head back to the apartment just yet."

They fell silent after that, merely dangling their legs, swinging back and forth. Above them, the sun was slowly setting. It was later in the afternoon, but not close enough for the sun to set. Sitting there, Alia didn't know where to start. Instead of using words, she took Reno's hand in hers, squeezing lightly. He returned the gesture. Breathing deeply, Alia closed her eyes. Her friends essentially abandoned her, as their view of Reno was loud and clear. Alia, on the other hand, essentially abandoned them as well. If they weren't willing to try and listen to her, then there was no point in keeping their friendship alive.

Would she even call it a friendship when they barely kept in touch? There were times she tried contacting them, but they didn't return her messages. The only time they were together was when Tifa invited them over or they came on their own accord.

Is this what I deserve? She thought. Is this what I get for keeping my relationship a secret? Then she shook her head, reminding herself she did this for a reason and wanted to stick to that reason. Regardless of whether she was honest from the beginning, everyone's reaction would have been the same.

"Hey…are you blaming yourself for any of this?"

Reno's voice pulled Alia from her thoughts. "Mmm, not exactly. More like questioning if this is what I deserve for keeping our relationship a secret."

Reno turned to her as she stared forward. "And do you honestly believe that?"

The woman chuckled. "I'm…not entirely sure. I'm trying to tell myself it doesn't matter because I love you, and that's what matters. But, if I have to be honest with myself, I'm slightly guilty that there might be a part of me that did want to hide the fact we're together."

It was then Reno chuckled as he glanced back across the cliff. "Hmm, well, if we're both being honest…I kinda figured that. I knew you were keeping us a secret for a reason, and I was perfectly fine with that."

"What? Really?" Alia gawked at her boyfriend. "You were seriously ok with that this entire time?"

"Why not?" He peeked at her. "I'm aware of the type of person I was and those I have connections with." He sighed, turning to her again. "Look, Alia, does all that matter now? After this last hour, I think we're in a better place. Everyone knows, and now we can live our lives without worrying about someone discovering us. We don't have to cause a scene." He chuckled again, giving her a bright smile. "Because that already happened."

The redhead was awarded with Alia's lovely laughter. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and brought the woman closer, kissing the top of her head. "Reno…did you really mean what you said at the bar? That you want us to live together?"

He smirked, remembering that part of the conversation. "Of course I did, yo. Do you doubt me now?"

"N-no! Not at all! I guess…I'm kinda in somewhat of a shock? Those people are probably no longer my friends, and…I guess I was just nervous to hear you say that in front of them."

"No," he whispered, knowing what she meant. "I was - am - serious. Aliana Rae Strife, I want you to move in with me." Rotating his body and hers, Reno cupped her cheek. "I wish it didn't have to be like this with your friends, and I certainly didn't want to ask you this way, but…Please, Aliana, move in with me. At least the rest of your stuff. If I remember correctly, you stated that you gave more clothing at the apartment than at the bar."

She kissed his palm with a smile. "I'll gladly move in with you, Reno."

To seal her promise, she leaned forward to drop a gentle kiss against his lips. Knowing he wanted more, Reno threaded his fingers into her hair, cupping her head, and brought her closer. They opened their mouths and intertwined their tongues. But it wasn't enough. Reno held her back and flushed her chest against his. Alia clawed her fingers into his shirt, scrunching the material because she desired the redhead more than anything. The woman released a hearty groan that shot straight into Reno's Sinclair heart and pants. Though he didn't want to, Reno stopped, pulling far enough away that their noses touched.

"Alia," he breathed gently. "We have to stop. I-I can't…"

"What…what if I don't want to stop?" Alia lifted her eyes and peered straight into Reno's. His widened, not expecting her to say such words. Trailing a finger along his collarbone, she rubbed the visible skin of his neck. "I-I…I want…" Cheeks glowing red, Alia wanted to cast her eyes away, knowing she couldn't stare at Reno and speak her the following sentence. But she prevailed. Taking a deep breath, she muttered, "I want you."

"How?" Reno found himself asking. He knew what she meant. But he needed to hear her say it.

Alia rubbed circles into his skin. In doing so, Reno groaned lowly, goosebumps forming on his skin as she continued to trace. She knew what she was doing, and the redhead knew as well. "I…want us to be together." Swallowing her fear, she said, "I want you to make love to me."

His mouth was on hers the second she finished speaking. It was fierce yet quick. Pulling her close, Reno rubbed his nose against hers. "Aliana, are…are you sure? Is it too soon?"

Her hair bounced as she shook her head. "No. It's perfect." Her hand crawled up to his face, and she traced the skin of his chin softly. When she spoke, her voice was gentle. "It's just…today made me realize there's no point in waiting. This is something I've wanted for a long time. And only you can give me what I want."

"Alia, you…you trust me that much?"

"I trust you more than I've ever trusted someone, Reno. You are my everything, and I want to share everything with you." She kissed him.

The fear in Reno's heart was replaced with love for this woman and her trust. He kissed her back, carefully standing to his feet, pulling Alia with him. Without sharing any more words, they straddled the bike where the redhead revved the engine and moved them toward Edge.

Reno was reminded of the question he so desperately wanted to ask Alia as they rode back. He considered asking her the same question here and now. He could see himself holding Air's hands, dropping to one knee, staring into her beautiful, different-colored eyes, and asking her to marry him. But he refused. The woman deserved the perfect moment with the best setting and, of course, the ring.

She needs time to think. Now that we're officially living together, she deserves time to consider what happened between us and her friends. Once she's had some time, I'll take her on a trip, just the two of us, and catch her by surprise. Reno thought to himself as he drove closer to Edge, not as fast as he had previously.

Turning slightly, Reno could make out Alia's buried face in his shoulder, shielding her face from the wind. He smiled. This one woman was his everything, and he swore to do everything in his right to protect her from anything and anyone. Be that the people who were after her or her friends. It mattered not to the redhead. Any threat to Alia was a threat to himself. Aliana Rae Strife was his family now, and he would always protect his family.
