Hello everyone, sorry I haven't been updating for a while. I was finishing my trip to New Zealand and I had a bit of flu. But I'm feeling so much better now. If Dragon Prince Season 6 wasn't airing next week, this would be a Wish chapter but I thought I might do this instead as the date is so close now. I promise everyone I will update Wish this week and finish it soon. But for now, enjoy the first chapter of Dragon Prince Season 4. Just to confirm I do not own Dragon Prince, only my OC Characters. Credit goes to makers.
Rebirthday Part One:
Two years have passed since we delivered the Dragon Prince, Prince Azymondius, back to his mother to restore peace to our world. The war has ended. Humans and Elves are now learning to co-exist with one another. But…as my father used to say. When one adventure ends, another begins.
From the shadows of a large cave, Castor narrowed down to an adult girl whose long hair was half white and half black. She was genuflecting before a man in dusty white. His eyes had opened. His breath had returned. "You're alive," the girl breathed in relief.
Viren cringed. His heart dropped seeing a blooded crown beside him, King Harrow's crow. "Did I survive?"
"No. You didn't. but you're okay now," Claudia cupped his cheek. "I brought you back,"
Viren smiled in relief. But he noticed something was missing. "Where is…"
"Your creepy caterpillar friend? Two days ago, it climbed up that wall and spun itself into that," Claudia twisted her head. As her resurrected father copied her line of vision, he saw a giant chrysalis cocoon of glowing purple. "It's changing,"
Viren turned pale. "I've been dead for two days?"
Claudia was silent as she shut her eyes. "It's been two years,"
Viren turned even more pale. "I've been dead for two whole years?"
"You have," Viren shuddered as he saw a star-tattooed man step into the light. "We meet again, Lord Viren,". The resurrected man gulped.
In the kingdom of Katolis, the sky was raining heavily. In the high mage's tower, a young woman reaching eighteen stood in front of a golden looking-glass. Her long dark hair, tied in a double braid-back, was crowned with a special dragon comb with a ruby eye. She wore a knee-length, sleeveless turtle-necked dress with golden-rimmed neck and arm holes. The vest of the dress was sapphire blue and golden dragon embroidery coiled around the corset. The double-slit skirt was a lighter shade of blue with vine stitches which blossomed into red flowers. Down the girl's right arm to her elbow were the primal symbols of the Moon, Sky and Sun. Her other accessories were her mother's bracelet and necklace, a golden ring embedded with a jewel segment and forearm-length detached sleeves of blood-red which matched her leggings and had golden middle-finger loopholes. She wore brown knee-height boots with golden rims and soles and a dragon symbol stamped on the front for the final touch.
High Mage Caroline traced the ruins of the magical mirror. "What secrets are you hiding?" Whoosh. She spun around. Pages flew off her desk. Wind crept along the walls like invisible snakes. "Come out. Come out. Wherever you are," she called out in a teasing voice. Zap! A little dragon flashed in front of her eyes. She pretended to jump in fright. "Never stops getting old Ghost. Come here, you cheeky spooker," she tickled her little Spectre dragon of ghostly white who loved to teleport. He had bright sky-blue eyes, silver claws, and little matching horns.
Stop it. Stop it. He begged, giving her a few licks to make her chuckle too. He crawled along her arm to sit around her neck like a scaley scarf and nuzzled her face. Knock. Knock. Ghost jumped to the loud banging on the door. He growled.
"It's okay boy. Come in!"
The soldier entered. "High Mage Caroline, the council is assembling and you are requested,"
"Right thank you very much for the notice," Carol walked out with the soldier behind her and her little dragon riding her shoulders, closing the door. After treading down the stairs, they made their way to the courtyard but to their annoyance, the rain remained heavy.
"Pluviam praesidium," she formed a barrier over her and Ghost's heads and they made their way under the wet sky, passing many servants. They waved and she waved back. Ever since, her adventures in Xadia and her newfound connection to primal magic, the people of Katolis had begun to see her in a different light. They realised how wrong they were about her and that she was more than just a "step-princess,". They admired her magic which she would use to entertain children and help out with activities around the kingdom. She waved her hand again and a massive barrier formed over the entire courtyard shielding everyone who sent multiple 'thank you's to her.
They entered inside and started making their way down the hall running into a grown-up Corvus, who had a short haircut and Soren, her former bully-turned-friend who had hair swiped over the right side of his head with bristles growing on his face. His Crownsguard had more leather and it was browner and redder than too much silver.
"Looking good as ever gentlemen," she greeted.
"You don't look bad yourself, princess," Corvus complimented.
"Love the clip in your hair, step-mage," joked Soren.
"Soren, what did we say about calling her anything with 'step' in it?" spooked a voice. They twisted their heads and saw a maturing Princess Willow joining them from another corridor. Her braids had been interweaved into four long-thick cornrows draped over her shoulders. She wore a royal dragon clip behind her ear and like her sister was bestowed with a ring with a jewel segment though hers was rich pink. She wore a royal magenta tunic with a white undervest, dark leggings, and boots. The emblem of Katolis was engraved on her belt and a dragon pendant snaked around her neck.
Soren giggled nervously. "It was just a joke,". Carol winked at Ghost who disappeared.
"Where'd he go?" Soren asked. Ghost teleported right onto shoulders and roared 'boo'. "Ahh!" he jumped in fright. The others laughed hilariously at him much to his irritation. "Oh, haha,"
"That never gets old," sniggered Carol as Ghost made his way back to her shoulder and she scratched his chin.
"Not for the five thousandth time!" whined Soren making her laugh even more. "Okay. Probably deserved that,"
"Otherwise, thanks, Soren. The comb was a gift from Ibis himself,"
"Well, I have to say it looks good on you,"
They entered the grand hall where they saw the royal council awaiting them with Opeli. The sisters made their way to two seats one on each side of the big royal seat. Ghost sat on Carol's lap whilst a guard opened a window and the head of Willow's dragon poked inside and she scratched her chin. Since Pyrrah was too big to fit in, she would poke her head inside during important council meetings so she could attend and give out any opinions which only Ezran could translate.
The grand doors opened. And into the royal room entered the fourteen-year-old King Ezran. His hair was pulled back in a high ponytail and he wore his new crown, with the same design as the golden one lost with Viren, made from his father's sword. He wore a royal red tunic with golden lining, dark leggings, and matching boots. And he wore a ring too like his sisters but the jewel segment was a topaz. He took his place on the royal seat between his sisters.
"Is that everyone?" Opeli asked.
"Not quite," said Carol, sensing a missing sitter beside her.
The doors opened again. "Sorry, I'm late everyone," Caldor, who had aged slightly and wore robes of rich red fit for a vizier, stumbled into the room. "You will not believe how many letters I've had to help the Crow Lord with,"
"No apology is necessary. Take a seat and join us," the young king invited. Caldor happily took his seat beside Carol and smiled approvingly at the three rings the royal children wore.
When he discovered a unique jewel of three separate colours and stone types, he decided to divide it into three pieces for each royal family. The golden topaz for Ezran to signify his status as the successor of King Harrow, the new king who would usher in a new dynasty of peace and prosperity. The magenta tourmaline for Willow to represent her status as the Ambassador of Peace, between elves and dragons alike, who would use her gifts of foresight to prevent conflict. And finally, the blood-red ruby for Caroline to represent her position as the new High Mage of Katolis and the first human in history to wield primal magic. Unlike the other human mages who came before her, she would use her magic for good, to protect all beings and creatures alike. The story of their adventures had spread far throughout the Human Kingdoms. When their time had passed, they would become legends that would be passed on for generations to come.
"Now is that everyone for the council?" asked Opeli.
"Still waiting on two others," said Ezran. Right after he said that Bait entered the room and hopped onto his lap and then through another open window on the far right of the grand hall came a majestic swan of space purple and blue, adorned with white stars that matched its beak. She landed to perch on a bird stand beside the king. Ezran patted her head and she squawked with glee. "Now everyone is here,"
"Where may I ask is Felix?" asked Opeli to the high mage who was rarely seen without him as much as her little dragon.
"He's spending time with his family in Lux Area," said Carol. "As a matter of fact, he's helping Queen Janai with something very special," She winked at Willow who winked back confusing their brother, Corvus and Soren.
The king cleared his throat. "Let us begin,".
In the lush autumn forests of the Sunfire Lands, Felix, Rakasa and his siblings were waiting patiently under some trees. A special pillow with a soft cloth was seated with them. Snap. Rakasa growled activating her fire mode with Felix. But it was no threat. It was Queen Janai, dressed in gold and Commander Gren. Felix wagged his tail. Janai knelt and stroked him. "She is waiting," she announced. She pulled out her bun and decorated her head with flowers. The foxes were then topped with flower crows and Gren, adored in some flowers himself, picked up the pillow and offered it to Felix who held it upright with his teeth.
Rakasa saw how nervous her owner was and purred. She will say 'yes'. She encouraged.
Her warm eyes gave Janai encouragement and she whistled. Three elves appeared with whips. She nodded.
Opeli held up a pillow with a special golden pin with a baking whisk. "Our first order of business is welcoming our new council member to his first day. Welcome, Barius the Baker," Caldor took the pin and pinned it to the baker, the guest of honour earning claps.
"Barius, have you given any thought to the official titles I suggested?" Ezran asked.
"Hm, while I did appreciate the authoritative ring of "Baker-in-Chief", in the end, I would be humbled to accept the role as your Minister of Crusts and Jellies," Barius accepted.
"Sounds perfect," approved Willow, earning more claps as Barius took a next to her. Ghost panted like a dog and hung his tongue out.
"Um, why is your dragon doing that?" Barius asked.
"He's hoping you might have a jelly tart," said Carol. "You know how crazy he is about them,"
"As a matter of fact, I do," Barius pulled out a tart and tossed it in the air. Ghost tried to grab it but Serena, Ezran's star swan got to it first. He growled in annoyance.
"Serena, what did we say about nipping food that's not yours?" Ezran gently lectured his special companion beside Bait.
"Don't worry I always take an extra one," Barius tossed another one. Ghost swallowed it in one gulp.
What about me? Whined Pyrrah.
"And I brought an extra-extra one," Barius tossed the dragon one and she munched on it with delight. "And that's all I have,"
"Why don't we move on to our next topic?" Caldor insisted.
"Absolutely," said Ezran. "Katolis is going to be receiving guests. I wish for us to hold a celebration, a chance for the people to meet the Dragon Queen and Zym,". Everyone including his sisters was surprised; they blinked. "What?"
"It has only been two years since the battle. Are you sure it is wise to bring the Dragon Queen to our kingdom?" asked Opeli. "Don't you think the people will feel a little terrified,"
"I feel it is time our people were introduced to the Queen of the Dragons. They are already comfortable around Pyrrah and they must meet her. And it's time they met Zym as well,"
"And besides the queen only eats three people a day. It's a small price to pay for peace," Carline joked. Everyone just sent her blank stares. Even Ghost didn't like her joke. "Sorry bad joke,"
"Caroline, I would like you to go and deliver this message to the queen herself," her brother said.
"King Ezran, I can easily just communicate with Zym and the Sky Patrol,"
"I believe we should deliver the message properly and as the High Mage of Katolis and a Mage of the Skywing People you are the best person for the job,"
"As you wish,"
"Princess Willow, you will be in charge of spreading the message to the other kingdoms,"
"Are you sure we want to include the other kingdoms in this celebration?" Corvus asked, uneasily.
"Absolutely," said Ezran. "Queen Aanya has already agreed, and she completely believes the other kingdoms should get to know Zubeia and Zym. She's offered to do a dragon parade with her dragons and her brother,"
"That sounds exciting." Carol was already beginning to think of more ideas and she pulled out her sketchbook to jot them down. "I could perhaps do a fireworks display for the queen,"
"Pyrrah and I could do a flight show," said Willow.
"And I'll make large cakes and tarts," Barius added.
"So, is everyone up for this?" Ezran asked.
Most of the adults were still uncertain. Caldor gave his approval, saying "I humbly agree it would be an exceptional moment in our history since peace was brought. All I ask is we should not get ahead of ourselves, my king,"
"I will take that on board," said Ezran. "In the meantime, Carol, you must prepare for your journey,"
"As you wish," Carol stood from her seat and left the hall with Ghost, causing everyone to sigh in relief.
"Are you sure this is safe, King Ezran?" Soren asked.
"Absolutely. Whilst she's away we can prepare…"
"No. I mean letting her go by herself,"
"I wasn't planning on letting her go alone. Soren, would you and Corvus accompany her to the Spire?"
"It would be a pleasure," Corvus saluted.
"She can take care of herself," Soren tried to reason. "She has magic after all,"
"King Ezran is right Soren," Opeli said, her face a little painted with worry. "It is safer if she had company with her,"
"Perhaps Pyrrah could come with her," said Willow.
"No. With the short time we have left until the big day, I need you two to travel to the other kingdoms to deliver the messages whilst I stay here and ensure everything is ready," said Ezran. "And that's the meeting adjourned."
In the cave hideout, Castor had remained towered over Viren as his daughter helped him up. "Castor, could you perhaps give us some space?" Claudia requested.
Without saying a word, Castor walked behind some rocks and slouched down crossing her arms. He heard the teen girl's ecstatic voice. "Seeing you now, I-I almost can't believe it's been over two years,". As Claudia explained to Viren what had happened after the battle, and how she found his body, the former star mage stared at the caterpillar chrysalis. And as he did, a deep voice spoke to him.
"You know you will need her, my son," Aavaros's voice sent tingles down his spine. He hadn't heard that voice in centuries. "She is the key to helping you free me from my prison. So, you must cooperate with her,"
The deep voice disappeared and Castor heard Claudia speaking again. "I had to go on a quest, a quest into Xadia: to find every strange and rare thing I would need to save you, to bring my father back from the dad," she inhaled deeply. Castor peered over and saw her turn her back. "I had to do things I never imagined I'd be able to do,"
Viren felt great remorse. "I'm…I'm sorry,"
"But luckily I wasn't alone," Claudia's face brightened up again. "Castor was with me,"
Viren narrowed his eyes. "Him?"
"Without him, I never would have found everything I needed,". Viren only felt unsettled by his daughter's words.
Gren and Janai walked slowly through the forest. The elves had gone ahead of them but now was the time to appear into view with the big offer that would change Amaya's life forever. But the closer they came to where Gren and Janai had left the general, the louder the noise of bang! Whack! grew. Something was wrong.
"Amaya!" Janai dashed ahead, Gren and the foxes behind her. They had just appeared when they saw Amaya about to punch one of the elves, the other two knocked out. "What is going on?!"
Amaya stopped what she was doing and turned to them. They ambushed me.
"No. No. No," Janai sighed in sorrow. Felix and his family whined. "This was not how it was supposed to go,"
In the cave, Viren and Claudia were talking. The resurrected man struggled to walk but his daughter and resurrector helped him balance determined not to lose him again. "After finding everything we needed we came back here to the cave. Aaravos gave us the final instructions. And then the star caterpillar went into that chrysalis. Castor and I had to complete the resurrection spell alone and it worked. You're back," Claudia said with glee and embraced her father.
Viren was overjoyed. "I'm alive,"
"For now," Castor's spooky voice made them freeze.
Claudia spun around. "What?"
"The resurrection spell is only temporary," he stepped back into the light.
"Excuse me this is a private moment," Viren demanded. "Leave us,"
"You do not give me orders," Castor said with a threatening face. "The magic is only temporary. The spell will only bring you back for thirty days,"
"You didn't tell me that," Claudia said with shock.
"As a master of dark magic, you should have known yourself that such things including bringing people back from the dead aren't intended to be permanent. But there is a way to make your father's restored life expand for as long as you want should you wish to continue working with me to free my master,"
Claudia beamed. "Aaravos. He can save you!" she cheered for her father. "He can make it permanent,"
"So, when can we expect your star-touch master to emerge from that chrysalis?" Viren questioned Castor.
Castor frowned. "That is not Aaravos, you numbskull. It is merely a creature he used to communicate with you according to your daughter. He is trapped in a magical prison that my brothers and I have sought out. Even he doesn't know where it is,"
"So, we need to find him and free him. In thirty days," Claudia said with determination.
"Then it's hopeless," Viren said.
"Don't say that" Claudia begged. "There is one weird hope. The last thing Aaravos said before the caterpillar went in there was: 'The being that emerges from the chrysalis will help you find answers',"
"It seems your father has the point. Now I would like a private word with him," Castor requested. "He and I have something to discuss,"
Claudia started to walk away but Viren grabbed her. "Claudia, you cannot leave me with him,"
"Don't worry dad. He wants to help us find Aaravos. Besides there's something I need to check on. I won't be long," she kissed his cheek and he nervously watched her leave. Once she disappeared, the two mages faced each other, angry glances between them.
"I want you to look me in the eye and tell me why you betrayed me and my brothers all those years ago," Castor demanded Viren who frowned back.
"I had no choice,"
Ezran was walking happily along the hall when he noticed Willow was giving him a look. "What?"
"Please don't me you're just doing this celebration so Zym can come over and you can cuddle him,"
Ezran pulled up cute cat eyes. "Can't it be both?"
Willow sighed gently. "Brother don't take this personally but you need to try and think a bit maturely. And I don't like the idea of you sending Carol out there by herself. Who knows…"
"Willow, Carol won't be alone," her brother reminded. "And besides, we need her to leave the castle if we need to plan…"
"Plan what?" spooked a voice. They jumped and turned around to see Carol prepared with her knapsack. Ghost with his long body was her scarf.
"Oh, just uh…planning who will be coming with you to the Spire?"
"It's just Ghost who's coming with me," Carol said, her dragon nuzzling her face. "I regret that Felix won't be there to say 'Hello' to Zym'.
"I would like Soren and Corvus to come with you,"
"I don't need an escort. I'll be back in a day. I've got wings," she flapped her hands.
"I'd rather you'd travel safe and sound with the company to the Spire. Please?" he begged.
"Okay," she accepted. "But just Soren and Corvus. I can protect myself. And our Skywing friends will be waiting for us once I send a magic message,"
"She'll be fine, Ez," Willow assured. "Speaking of Felix, when do you think we'll get notice from Janai?"
"Very soon I hope," Carol held up a joyful smile.
"Amaya, this was no ambush," said Janai who was helping one of her elves up.
Then why were they wielding fire whips? Signed the regretful Amaya with Gren still speaking for her.
"Those aren't whips. They're flame ribbons used in the dance," Janai explained, helping the other two up. "Show her,"
The elves picked up their fire ribbons and twirled around, performing tricks with captivating precision and choreography; Amaya was impressed. She was even more impressed by the foxes except Felix dancing around with them with their fiery tails. "This is a traditional Sunfire elf ceremony," explained the queen.
What kind of ceremony?
Janai slowly blinked loving eyes at her. Amaya smiled and blinked back. The queen genuflected. Will you Amaya, general of Katolis and love of my life… Amaya's lips parted. When she finished signing, Felix bowed and with his teeth held out a gorgeous ring of the brightest gold with an encrusted ruby offered on a pillow. Janai picked the ring off the cushion and Amaya nodding her head offered her finger. The ring slipped on and she embraced her new fiancé.
"How did I do? Was my signing okay?" the nervous queen asked Gren.
"It was beautiful. Slightly off," said Gren with a cheesy smile. "You asked to wrestle with you," Janai giggled nervously; she was still a little rusty with sign language.
It was beautiful. Amaya signed. She pulled Janai to her feet and they kissed.
"This human she is marrying…," complained one of the male dancers. "She's a beast,"
"I heard that. And you're right," said Janai. "That's what I love about her,"
Sorry for the misunderstanding. Apologised Amaya. Your dancing was beautiful.
The fox family purred, overjoyed that the proposal was a success. Sort of. Felix in particular couldn't wait to see the eagerness on his best friend's face when she would see her aunt was going to get married to the Sunfire Queen.
"It seems we can finally announce the good news," Janai said to her new fiancée which Amaya responded to with a cheek peck.
We have to invite the children. Amaya signed. They will love you as a new aunty.
Felix barked with approval and the two future wives-to-be knelt before him and his family and stroked their heads. Carol will be so happy for you.
And that's the first chapter of this next Dragon Prince story done. What did you all think of the characters' new looks? I loved writing Caroline's. That was my favourite new look. Thank you to those who suggested Ghost and Serena; I can't wait to use them in the story later on. The next chapter should be out either next weekend or the following week. Please continue sending ideas for chapters. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
