"I remember when I first got my quirk," Oshika mused, a nostalgic smile playing on her lips. "Super late bloomer, by the way. I guess my music taste hadn't evolved enough to be motivating and powerful. Some of the kids thought I didn't have a quirk, but the doctors and quirk counselors said that I was just a late bloomer!"
She chuckled softly, recalling the teasing and doubts that had followed her through her early years. "Then, when I was about ten, I got my first MP3 player! Oh, how I loved it! It had Spotify too! It had a clear case, which I drew on and decorated. I made my first playlist, and suddenly life slowed. But I could move normally? The music was normal too. I was listening to the chorus of 'Coyotes' by Modest Mouse. I tried to make time normal again, and it happened!"
Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she remembered that pivotal moment. "'Mama! My quirk! It came!' I shouted. My mom rushed in, her eyes wide with surprise and joy. From that day on, music became my power, my strength, and my passion."
The U.A. interviewer, who had been silently listening with a raised eyebrow, finally cleared his throat. "Uhh... We asked for your name?"
Oshika blinked, her face turning a shade of pink. "Oh, right! I'm Oshika Togara, but you can call me Osha." Oshika was doing silly little finger guns, trying to downplay the mistake she just made.
The interviewer couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "Welcome to U.A. High School, Osha."
"Heh, I guess I got carried away…at the first part…" she was now starting to talk in an embarrassed whisper, but then she remembered the interviewer's reply. A look of pure joy and dedication popped up on her face.
"Oh! I got in? Thank you! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" she was talking super-fast, with a bubbly look on her face as she shook his hand. "I'll try my best!"
She took one last look at the room, a colorful, fully decorated space. Oshika took notice of the mural, a humongous painting of heroes and villains battling. She looked around for All Might on the mural, and she found him. Beaming, smiling no matter what, Oshika looked up to him. He was why she always tried to keep a smile on her face. The room smelled of fresh paint, indicating that the mural was newly completed.
"Oh, and here's your schedule," the interviewer said, handing her a sheet of paper. The crisp, white sheet of paper read "Homeroom: 1-A."
"Class 1-A?" Oshika echoed, and turned pale, almost pure white. "Isn't that the class that the successor of All Might was in?" a look of excitement and surprise flashed across her face.
"Yeah," the interviewer said. "And I used to teach him." A sly smile appeared on his face.
"You're ERASERHEAD!?" She might as well have fainted on the spot. Now she was pure white. A resurgence of color returned to her face as she realized what time it was. "Sorry, but I'm going to be late for homeroom!" With a quick bow, she spun on her heel and dashed down the hallways. Her eyes flicked from one sign to the next, barely slowing down enough to read them.
"Class 1-A, class 1-A, here!" she thought. A sign that read "1-A" poked out from the wall beside the door. She took a deep breath, "This is my chance" she whispered to herself, and stepped in. The door creaked as it swung open, revealing the bustling classroom inside. A kid was making conversation with a plant, another was talking to seemingly no one and made solid things with the sound waves. He made a mug and started steeping tea in it. And there was a girl who was making a rainbow out of the water the sound-wave kid was using to steep his tea! Another almost fell, and yet another made him levitate before he faceplanted into a desk!
"Settle down." Mr. Aizawa erased the quirks of everyone in the class, one by one, until everyone was seated. Except for Oshika! "As you probably know, we have a new student. It is a bit after the start of the year, but she was exceptional in middle school. And she knows her quirk well."
"You don't have to praise me in front of the class like that," Oshika thought, her face turning 100 shades of red. But the other kids didn't seem to mind.
"Welcome! My name's Hana Nakumara!" That was the kid who made the rainbow.
"Good job getting in late! Name's Kaito Tanaka!" That was the kid who made the mug.
"Oh, please." I heard someone say, and then all sound was wiped from the room. "A sound-erasing quirk? Amazing for stealth, but it would affect my quirk," Oshika thought. The sound came back, and a neatly dressed, blue-eyed kid stood up, calmly walked toward Osha, and stuck out his hand, "Hello, my name is Ryo Saito."
Osha shook his hand and said, "Hi! The name's Oshika Togara, but call me Osha!"
"Oshika is fine with me," Saito said, unimpressed and unphased. "I think your seat's next to mine." And he pointed to two empty desks in the back.
"Nice!" Osha exclaimed, "I hope we can be bffs!"
"Sure…" Saito answered sarcastically. Then the bell rang, and Oshika sat down. "Now, class begins." Said Mr. Aizawa, with a mischievous smile on his face.
End of ep. 1!
