hey guys, so yes, this story was originally posted by Alex45zootnine. but sadly he went into hiatus and decided to never return. so he reached out to me to finish this for him, which i did not want to do at first, but after thinking it through; it probably needs some polishing and could be finished.

i changed a few things around...

things that stayed the same:
- Nick and Judy are the same age, being in their teens
- takes place in an AU of our world and Zootopia's
- Judy hates foxes still

things i cut out:
Nick is not trans/intersex

so yeah, basically just the first chapter again, but with some minor edits. enjoy!

Chapter 1

Sleeping under the comfortable sheets of her bed, Judy Hopps snored away like the sleeping beauty. That was for certain until a recognizable voice kept shouting from a familiar distance. Judy struggled to keep her eyes shut, her paw clutching the soft pillow.

"Jude, hurry up!" Stu Hopps shouted from the kitchen after doing so several times.

Finally, the bunny's eyes shot wide open. She slowly sat up, before taking a good hard look around her current accommodation. The room possessed gray walls, modestly decorated with posters. Only the sun, through her windows, provided adequate illumination. The room contained ample furniture.

For Judy, the days on the calendar have passed by fast. With the summer gone meant that her freshman year of high school had to begin. She missed life back in the huge countryside area of bunny burrow. All her friends now meant nothing to her anymore. The city she lives in doesn't feel safe. She now lives in a big city known as Philadelphia.

"You don't want to be late for your first day of school!" Stu shouted, this time in a melodic tune warning Judy he was getting annoyed fast.

Judy snapped out of her stupor, focusing back to reality. The bunny placed her paws on the covers of her bed before throwing them forward.

She rushed from out of her room dressed in a red flannel shirt and dark denim jeans. She stuffed her notebooks and writing utensils into her backpack before dashing into the kitchen. The bunny paused her footsteps. The smell of burning coffee took her nose in surprise. Judy peered her vision across the room, to where her mother stood boiling some black, dark roasted coffee in a Keurig machine.

Bonnie, Judy's mother, poured the steaming hot drink into a small mug before turning around and glancing at Judy.

"Oh, you're awake!" Bonnie gasped as she placed her mug of coffee down on the kitchen counter, before glancing at Stu across the room sitting at the dining table. Stu had his feet propped up on the table, with a bowl of steaming, hot oatmeal next to him.

"Do I have to go?" Judy groaned

Stu lowered his newspaper in the grip of his paws and raised an eyebrow at Judy. "Yes, you do!" he said.

Bonnie glared at Stu like he was stupid, and then back to Judy with caring love.

"Would you like us to go to the bus with you?" Bonnie asked her teenage daughter

"No, I'm fine." Judy grunted as she rolled her eyes.

The bunny grasped onto a cup of milk before gulping the entire liquid down her system.

"Alright Jude dude, have a good day!" Stu smiled as he waved a paw to Judy.

The bunny lowered her ears before turning around and heading towards the door. She turned her head back to glance at her parents one more time, before swinging the door wide open.

"Love you," Judy softly spoke before shutting the door behind her.

Judy sat on the hard, wooden front porch steps of her home and took a good hard look at the streets that lay in front of her. The streets were generally clean, with a spot of trash occasionally. Then finally, a big yellow vehicle was seen making its way towards Judy, before stopping in front of her. A few words were printed in bold black on the side of the bus, reading "Philadelphia city schools".

The bus doors cracked wide open, revealing… the first human the bunny saw since she made her way through inner Philadelphia. The plump, overweight human turned and looked at Judy.

"New kid?" the man asked, not caring one bit.

Judy nodded her head before climbing aboard the vehicle. She investigated for an empty seat, and finally she found one close to the back. The bunny knew she was receiving looks from other mammals and … humans, which made sense. She was the new kid this time.

"Howdy farm girl!" a lion said, using an overly drawn-out southern accent.

Judy just shook her head as she sat down in the desired seat. She plugged her earphones into her iPhone, putting them into her ears to drown the sound of all the teenage humans and mammals in the background.

Finally, after what felt like forever, the bus finally made a halt. Judy took a good look at her surroundings; there stood a solid building of concrete and glass with huge corridors leading to other buildings. Some buildings were painted in a dark red color. Then the door swung wide open, everyone rushed to departure off the bus. The bunny stepped off the bus after everyone else did and glanced at the enormous building in front of her. She entered through the doors to encounter firsthand the beautiful look of the entry room. A huge mural painted the wall with bright and vibrant colors, a large print on the floor showed the school mascot, and a glass display ahead encased memorials of past events. Judy was in awe of the decoration, though she had no time to waste.

"Where is it at…" the bunny reached into her pants pocket and finally pulled out a slip of paper.

The paper held a list of classes, with time schedules for them. Of course, it was her schedule. Judy read it carefully while pacing down the hall until she heard a voice shouting from the wall next to her. She slowly lifted her head from the paper and turned her head towards a door that read "principle".

"If i catch you doing that again Wilde, it's gonna be a long four years for you… in detention!" the one certain voice, who appeared to be the principal, swung the door wide open before pushing out… a fox?

"Oh, you'll get the privilege of seeing me all year!" the fox snarled. His eyes deepened, he was highly annoyed.

Judy almost fell dead to the floor. The bunny herself grew sick to the stomach to know there were foxes in this school, she never had a good past with foxes. Every encounter she had with a fox in her childhood was terrible.

The fox huffed in a huge breath of air before the door slammed shut behind him, his ears raised when he heard footsteps. The bunny tried to pass by the fox as quietly as possible, before the fox caught eye contact with her. The fox waved a paw, slowly a sly smile grew upon his face as he paced away. Judy stopped dead, she almost wanted to vomit from that smile. Her ears lowered as she faced down back at her schedule.

Her first class of the day, history. Not her biggest strength, but she's good at it.

She finally found the room of desire after pacing the hallway a few rooms down. She found an empty seat right up at the front, just perfect. The bunny sat down in her target seat, placing her backpack to the side. She grabbed a notebook and a pencil, softly placing the desired items on the desk. Judy almost threw a panic attack when she saw the same fox from earlier entering the room. Her heart was rapidly beating against the flesh of her chest. It made her want to scream when he sat down next to her. He wore a black leather jacket with a white tee underneath, and a perfectly fit pair of jeans. His emerald eyes focused on the screen of his phone, and his red fur bristled in the sunlight peeking through the windows.

Judy tried to ignore the fox as much as possible until she felt something tapping on her shoulder. The bunny almost jumped right out of her seat when she realized it was the fox tapping on her shoulder.

"So, you're the new girl?" the fox said with a relaxed, laid-back smile. He propped his feet up on his desk. "Straight from the country by your clothing, I can tell," the fox added.

Judy's mind rushed with many negative thoughts. She stopped dead before turning and glaring at the fox with the eyes of death.

"Where I'm from is none of your concern," Judy snapped towards the fox.

"Oh, salty one, eh?" the fox leaned a little closer to the bunny, his eyes narrowed as his tail swayed playfully, his sly grin deepened.

Judy shut her notebook softly, placing a paw on top of the cover before taking a huge breath of air and giving the fox a warning glare.

"Who are you anyway? The school troublemaker? Has to be from a first name basis with the school principal." Judy snarled at the fox.

The fox's eyes widened, before relaxing into a slyer look. He propped his feet back up on the smooth, hard surface of the desk. "Oh caught that one did you?" the fox said as he stuffed his phone into his pants pocket

"I don't make trouble, trouble makes me." the fox said

"Whatever," Judy rolled her eyes.

They were the only two mammals in the room at the moment, with the rest being humans. That's when the five-minute bell rang, and more students entered the room.

The bell rang shortly, and the teacher entered through the door. His appearance looked more of that of a forty-year-old human dad. The man's hair was very curly, and some European descent was present, as he was in his early forties.

"Alright class, how are we doing today? Did we recover from being hungover during summer break?" The teacher paused for a moment; the whole class glared at him as he stood in front of the chalkboard.

"OK, well…" the teacher was interrupted by the red fox.

"Did you recover?" The fox said, before gripping a freshly folded paper airplane and flinging it with such force that it glided through the air and hit the teacher on the chest.

"Very funny, Mr. Wilde!" the fine gentleman deepened his eye stance, a stern look struck his face as he glared at Nick Wilde, the fox.

Nick slowly turned his head over in the opposite direction, before…

"So, I suppose you didn't finish that extra work from middle school Wilde?" the teacher asked Nick before crumpling the unfolded paper airplane into a ball, tossing it into a trash bin. This was apparently a teacher who knew the fox since middle school, according to Judy's thoughts.

"Wilde, do the fucking work. You're now a freshman and this was assigned to you back in 7th grade!" the teacher scoffed at Nick.

The fox snapped his finger and said "You are correct! I could've done it," Nick paused before leaning back in his seat.

"But I chose not to do it, I had work."

A few students gasped; some just rolled their eyes. Judy just sighed and continued to write stuff down in her notebook, paying no attention at all.

"A fox, like you, has a job?" a wolf from the back of the room said.

"How could an animal like you have a job?" A human said from the back of the room.

"That's impossible?" A lion cracked up in laughter.

"My standards are not the reason you are surprised, I am sure" Nick winked at the back of the room.

"Wow, he sure knows something other than his name…" a moose snorted from the side of the room.

"I'm full of surprises, I assure you" Nick giggled as he faced the front of the room again.

"Do you ever shut up?" Judy voiced from next to Nick.

"The only way you can shut him up is with a muzzle strapped around his snout!" the same wolf said from the back of the room.

"Well, why don't you put one on him. That'll be two things I won't have to worry about!"

The whole room fell silent. A pen dropping to the floor was heard. Nick tested his theory by dropping his pen to the ground intentionally.

"Okay farm girl, you did it. You made the class silent as ever. Why don't you put a muzzle on YOURSELF! See how you would like that?" a human shouted from one side of the room.

"Okay class, settle down." the teacher paused before looking at Judy. "Hopps, since it is your first day here, I suggest holding your tongue."

"NOT UNLESS HE HOLDS HIS!" The bunny waved a paw in Nick's direction.

Nick being the smartass fox Judy already labeled him as, stuck his tongue out and held it.

"Othay, i thid it, your thurn!" Nick slurred.

"Oh my god, would every single one of you just shut the living hell up?" A human who looked like he was in his sophomore year said. His long, black curly hair covered his face as he focused on drawing something in his notebook. He wore a black graphic tee layered on top of a long sleeve white tee, and long loose cargo pants.

The whole room fell silent again before momentarily everyone straightened their act and maintained their focus on the teacher.

"Alright, thank you Fernando," the teacher paused before glaring at Nick with the eyes of the devil, then at the class with a normal glare. "Anyways, allow me to introduce myself, I am Mr. Goldberg, and I will be your history teacher" he announced loud and clear before pulling down a smartboard in front of the chalkboard, and slowly strolling back to his desk to operate the thing from his computer.

"Now I am pretty sure all of you have taken social studies before, right?" Mr. Goldberg said before the smartboard finally finished booting up. For the next half hour, he would carry on and on about the history course, the expected expectations for passing the class, and what the first topics would be for the year. While the smartass Nick Wilde would create as many distractions as possible, Judy paid as much attention to the teacher as she could.

RIIIIINGGGGGGG!

"Alright, that's all the time we have for the day. Remember, tomorrow you'll need a notebook and a pencil or pen. We will be starting with the paleolithic stone era, remember that!" Mr. Goldberg announced over the voices of the students exiting the classroom.

While the bunny paced through the halls to get to her next class, kids were seen standing around talking to each other, pushing each other around, and chasing one another through the halls as a few adults stood and monitored the walkways.

It was off to the next class the bunny had: Gym. Luckily for her, the smartass fox was not in there. The gym coach was a polar bear with a mean, grumpy attitude. "Okay slackers," she roared at the line of students across the green turf. The entire crowd of teenagers jumped with fear, except Judy.

"We're running a mile today! No ifs, no ands, and no buts! Get out there!" The bear blew her whistle, and every student began the long trek around the track field. If running was in the midst of Judy's worries, she was fine with that. The bunny was pretty good at keeping herself fit, running three miles every day back in bunnyburrow. The polar bear was surprised when the new girl finished the entire mile in six minutes.

"Good job Judith, you finished first! Must've been pretty good at your other school." Ms. Whites' attitude seemed to uplift positively.

"Yeah, I was on the track team." Judy shrugged.

"Well, maybe we can get you to join the team here." the bear suggested.

"I'll think about it," Judy shrugged once again.

And the next class of the bunny's was science. The presence of Nick caused Judy to become frustrated.

It pissed her off more when there was a seating chart, and she had to be seated next to Nick. oh, why out of any seat in the entire class, it had to be next to the smartass fox?

"Nick Wilde, wake up now!", Ms. Wolfmill, the wolf geology teacher, shouted at Nick for sleeping at his desk during the middle of a long boring speech.

Nick shot his head straight upward, before taking a few glances around the room, then at the wolf.

"Pardon me for interrupting your lesson, you may continue…" the fox leaned back in his seat, paying partial attention to the teacher. He began to snack on a bag of chips, making a big mess all over himself.

"Ok, we left off on the final exams, now final exams are very important…"

And her last class of the day, English. The room had some furniture in the back, like a couch and two were normal desks in there, so that didn't mean anything different. Nick wasn't there, so she was fine again. However, there was another bunny in there, so she thought she would be able to make a friend on the first day of school. Judy sat down at the table next to her.

"Hello, my name is Judy." she said excitedly.

"And why should I care?"

Judy's ears flopped down a bit, her smile faded a little. "I just thought I would introduce myself,"

"Well, you did so. Now skedaddle, there are plenty of other open seats," the other rabbit snarled at Judy.

So well for making friends on the first day of school.

Judy sat down on the couch in the back of the room.

"Hey" a familiar voice called Judy from right beside her.

Judy looked to her side to see the same wolf from her first class of the day.

"You're in my first period history class!" the wolf said, his brown eyes glared into Judy's.

"Yeah, so?" Judy said.

"Well, i want you to know that what you said to Nick was completely fucked up!" the wolf said, changing the tone of his voice.

"I only spoke my mind. It isn't illegal, is it?" Judy spoke before the wolf would give her a look of judgment.

"The name's Greg." the wolf introduced himself

"Judy," the bunny spoke.

Greg minded his business for a split moment, writing down notes from the task up on the smartboard. It was silent between the two.

"So, I'm assuming you have something against foxes?" Greg broke the quiet that stood between him and Judy.

"What?" Judy turned and glared at the wolf, confusedly.

"Well, you spoke to her over there, and you're speaking to me. But you won't give Nick the time of day?" Greg continued to stare at his notebook.

"Eh, judge all you want. I did not have a good past with foxes." Judy shrugged.

"So, you have something against his kind? I feel like you label them all the same." Greg slightly glared at Judy from the view of his notebook.

"Better safe than sorry!" Judy said.
