Chapter 3
Time For Combat Training
My hero costume wasn't as flashy as the others in my class. (cough, Momo, cough) It was a heat resistant body suit that had a rainbow of my colors from top to bottom; Red, White, Blue, Indigo, and violet. I had a pair of black boots that went up to my thighs, connecting to the rest of my hero costume.
The sleeves had built in gloves that covered the backs of my hands, but not the front. My long hair had been tied into a bun that shifted into a ponytail. Most of the others had a mask, but I simply had a hood.
"HA HA HA!" A giant figure jumped down from out of nowhere, landing before us. "I AM HERE!"
Deku put his hands in front of him, clearly excited.
All Might!
I wasn't a big fan of him. He was supposedly the number one hero, but if he really were, then he would've found me faster when the bird people had purchased me, or when Shigaraki had kidnapped me first.
Shigaraki! That's his name! I need to text Aizawa before I forget-
"For today's combat training, I'll be splitting you into teams that I will draw in a moment! Then, you will face off against your fellow classmates as either the heroes or the villains. For the villains, your job is to protect a massive bomb from the heroes. You can either keep the heroes at bay until time runs out or restrain them with this tape." He pulls out some tape. "However, the heroes will also have this tape. Their mission varies slightly from yours. The heroes can still detain you, but if one of them touches the missile, then they have defused it and the villains lose. Following?"
Kind of…
"Alright, let's begin the drawing. Team A will be…" He drew two names out of a bucket and read them. "Rikido Satou and Eijirou Kirishima." The red haired boy and the fat lipped one looked at each other with a grin.
"Team B is…" He once again drew two names. "Mina Ashido and Ochaco Uraraka." The two girls looked at each other and squealed.
"Team C is…Momo Yaoyorozu and Rumi Umiyagi."
I sighed, thankful that I was with someone I knew instead of someone that I was completely unfamiliar with.
"Team D will be…Fumikage Tokoyami and Yuga Aoyama. Team E is…Izuku Midoriya and Shoto Todoroki. Team F will be…Katsuki Bakugou and Denki Kaminari." Bakugou scowled at the blonde kid as he smiled. "Team G is…Mezou Shouji and Toru Hagakure. Team H is…Tenya Iida and Tsuyu Asui. Team I will be… Kyouka Jirou and Kouji Kouda. Which leaves Mashirao Ojiro and Hanta Sero as our contenders for Team J. Go ahead and get with your partner."
I found Momo and went straight to her. "Glad to see you remember who I am," she joked.
"It'd be kind of hard to forget you," I replied, blushing softly. I pulled out my phone and brought up Aizawa's contact and was about to text him the name of the League Member when I realized I had already forgotten it.
D*mn it!
"Alright! Let's find out who will go against who." He led us to the observatory room where there were two boxes with the letters H and V on them. He drew one ball from each box to reveal the letter on them. "Looks like Team I will be our heroes and Team B will be our villains! Villains, you have five minutes to set up your defenses. Then, I'll send in the heroes. Good luck."
—
"Alright, I have a good plan," Mina Ashido said. "I'm going to go around and put acid on certain parts of the walls to stop Jirou from listening in on us. If she hits an acid spot first, she'll assume we acid-ed all the walls. Then, that'll leave them no option but to come straight up here, where you'll come in."
Ochaco Uraraka started catching on. "I see! With Jirou only having one earjack, her sonic attacks won't be as strong!"
"Precisely! You'll have to float some crate that I'll soak in acid that we'll use as projectiles. They'll be so focused on dodging your attacks that I'll be able to glide behind them," Ashido pulled out the capture tape, "and stop them."
—
In the end, Mina and Uraraka's plan had worked flawlessly. As I watched it all unfold, I realized that Mina had placed acid on parts of the walls. Jirou had tried to listen in immediately and had burned her right earjack, rendering it useless. The two made their way through the building before coming across the main zone, where only Uraraka and several floating crates were to be seen.
Jirou attempts to create a sonic wave, but it wasn't as strong with one earjack and she was nearly hit in the face by a crate. Mina skated behind them using her acid and taped both of them before they could stop her.
"And with that," All Might said over the speaker, "Team B is the winner! If you exit out the main doors, you'll find Aizawa waiting for you to give you some tips as we draw for the next two teams."
All Might walked back to the boxes and drew out the hero team's ball; Team E. The villain team ended up being Team F.
"Team E will be our heroes and Team F will be the villains. Bakugou, Kaminari, prepare your defenses. Midoriya, Todoroki, I'll send you in after three minutes. Good luck."
—
"So, what's the plan-" Denki Kaminari started, but he wasn't able to finish his sentence before Katsuki Bakugou interrupted him.
"We both go down there." Bakugou looked at him. "If I know Deku, and, believe me, I do, the two of them will attempt to go through one of the side doors. We'll block the left one off and force them to go through the right one."
Kaminari nodded. "Right. And then what?"
Bakugou grinned. "Leave that to me."
—
"You're mumbling." Shoto Todoroki said to Izuku Midoriya.
"O-oh. Sorry, but I have a plan to stop Kacchan and Kaminari from beating us, but you're going to have to trust me on this."
Todoroki nodded, listening to Midoriya's plan.
—
The match started normally. I watched from the cameras, extremely curious to see who would win. Deku went to the left door first to try and push it open, but failed. He then turned to Shoto and nodded to him. They went back around, but instead of following Deku to the other side door, Shoto stopped at the main doors and pushed them open softly.
Deku entered through the right door and yelped, seeing both Bakugou and Denki waiting for him. Deku narrowed his eyes at Bakugou as he leapt at Deku.
"DIE!"
Bakugou was about to punch Deku in the face, but Deku grabbed his fist, along with the second one and pulled him back down.
"TODOROKI!" Deku shouted. "NOW!"
Shoto stomped his foot down and trapped Denki, Bakugou, and Deku waist high in ice. Bakugou grunted, trying to move his hands away, but Todoroki froze his hands to Deku's, stopping him.
"I assume this counts as capturing our opponents, All Might?" Shoto asked over the intercom as Bakugou started shouting.
"Well, yes, I believe it does," All Might stuttered. "Team E wins!"
—
"Their plan was really solid," Momo said once Shoto had returned with three frostbitten students.
I nodded. "Definitely."
"Alright! Let's draw for the next two competitors." He stuck his hands into both boxes and revealed the next two teams. "Team H as the heroes and Team J as the villains. Villains, go set up your defenses. Heroes, I'll send you in after five minutes. Good luck."
—
The fight between the boys was quick; Ojiro and Sero had tried to coordinate their Quirks by bringing Iida-Glasses-in closer to take him down, but in doing so, they forgot to keep an eye on Tsu and she was able to touch the missile.
They returned and All Might grabbed the hero ball. "Team G will be our heroes. Our villains will be…" He reached in and grabbed the dreaded ball. "Team C! Villains, go set up your defenses. Heroes, I'll send you in after five minutes. Good luck."
—
"What do you think we should do, Rumi?" Momo asked once we had gotten to the missile room. I looked around.
The room wasn't very big, but it was big enough that if Toru got inside, we wouldn't be able to find her and stop her before she reached the missile. That was probably their game plan.
"What's your Quirk again?" I asked Momo.
"Creation."
"What's the biggest thing you've created?"
Momo thought for a moment. "I guess a decent sized staff. Why?"
I walked up to the door, the only door to this area. "Can you create an electric field, by any chance?"
"I suppose so."
"Good. You do that. I'm going to use Deku's strategy. Route them through the main door. I'm expecting Toru to avoid the fight and come straight here. Make the electric field only affect Toru or Shouji. If she comes, she'll hit the field and give enough time to tape her."
"And what are you going to do?"
I smiled, punching my fists together. "I'm gonna blow sh*t up."
—
The five minutes were up. I sat on the stairs in front of the main doors, silently charging up an Indigo Wave. I heard the door to my right rattle, but not open because of the rubble in front of it. After a minute, the left door rattled as well, but had the same result.
Finally, the main door creaked open. Shouji looked right at me as I saw Toru drop her gloves. I stood up, grinning. "Hello, Shouji."
"Hello, Rumi." He raised his multiple arms up, ready to fight. I held my hands out as well, allowing him to get the first hit. The closer he was to me, the easier I could knock him out.
Before I could release the explosion my body had already adjusted to, Shouji grabbed my wrist and tossed me aside.
I yelped in surprise before pulling myself up. Shouji was waiting for me, allowing Toru to get closer to Momo's trap. Good.
I charged up my Quirk to Blue since Indigo would take too long when Shouji charged again, slammed me back into the wall.
I slid down as he backed up, preparing for my next burst. I knew that if I tried charging again, Shouji would interrupt it and he'd overwhelm Momo.
Which left an experimental option.
I stood up, charging as quickly as I could to get to the Violet Wave, my least used one. Once again, Shouji charged. When he got close enough, I grinned and let loose.
I'm gonna blow sh*t up.
—
As Shouta Aizawa watched the battle, intrigued by the strategy Rumi Umiyagi had come up with, he froze, seeing Rumi's hair change to a glowing violet.
"All Might, stop the match," he said, running up to him, fear stricken across his eyes.
Before All Might could respond, there was a massive shockwave, sending several of the confused students to the ground. Katsuki Bakugou was one of them, eyes locked on Rumi as she stayed standing above a slightly burned Mezou Shouji before her hair faded back to blonde and she collapsed.
—
What the f*ck? Was all Katuski Bakugou could think.
All Might put his hand to the earpiece. "Rumi Umiyagi, can you hear me?" No response. "Rumi?!"
"All Might, this is Momo Yaoyorozu." A voice replied after a full minute.
Bakugou looked at Ponytail Girl's screen to see that she was no longer there. Floating tape confirmed that Clear Girl had been detained. Bakugou looked to the screen where Ponytail Girl had moved to where Octopus and CopyClone were passed out. "Shouji is out cold, but I can't get a pulse on Rumi without burning myself."
"All Might," Old Man Aizawa said, "get down there as fast as you can. You're the only one who can withstand her heat."
All Might nodded, rushing out of there as Old Man Aizawa spoke into the intercom. "Yaoyorozu, your team wins since you detained both Shouji and Hagakure. I need you and Hagakure to help get Shouji to Recovery Girl. Can you do that for me?"
"Of course, but…what about Rumi?"
"Don't worry about her. All Might is on his way."
"Okay." Old Man Aizawa sighed and turned to the rest of the students. The others had gotten up already, and Sh*tty Hair was trying to help Bakugou up. He shoved him away and got up, looking right at Old Man Aizawa.
"How the hell did you know what would happen, you d*mn old man?"
"Because there are things you don't know about Rumi that she'll tell you when she's ready," was all he said.
Bakugou wasn't satisfied, but it would have to do.
—
All Might ran through the halls of UA, carrying Rumi Umiyagi in his arms. Her eyes were barely open, showing only the whites. Her skin was over 90 degrees celsius. All Might was barely able to make it to Recovery Girl before his skin started feeling the heat.
He had called her on the way, telling her to prepare the ice bath. He set her in the bath carefully before letting go, stretching his scorched hands.
He waited in the room with Rumi. Mzeou Shouji was dropped off later by Momo Yaoyorozu and Toru Hagakure. After Shouji was discharged, Shouta Aizawa walked in, closing the door and sitting next to an untransformed All Might.
"How is she?" Aizawa asked to no one in particular.
After Rumi's temperature had dropped back to normal, Recovery Girl and Yaoyorozu had moved her onto a bed, where she was fast asleep.
"Stable, if that's what you mean," Recovery Girl replied. "She'll be awake in an hour, at most."
"Good."
"Did you ever train the girl?"
"Of course I did. Everytime we practiced using the Violet Wave, she passed out and had a heat stroke." Aizawa paused for a moment. "It's never been this bad, though."
"Well," Recovery Girl turned to All Might, "you still have a class to teach, don't you, Yagi?"
Toshinori Yagi sighed, standing up. "Yeah, I know. I was just taking a break."
"Well, break faster. Class 1-B is waiting for you."
—
When I woke back up, I didn't hesitate to sit up. Aizawa was fast asleep on a chair across from me. I pulled the blanket off and swung my legs off the bed. I was shivering and immediately grabbed the blanket and wrapped myself again.
D*mn. I thought to myself, leaning my head back against the wall. I did it again. I cuddled myself against the wall as I heard the door squeak open. I looked up to see Momo at the door. She smiled at me and walked over. "Glad to see you're awake," she whispered, trying not to wake up Aizawa.
"Yeah," I replied.
"You good?"
"Yeah. I suck at the Violet Wave. Everytime I use it, I end up getting a heat stroke. My heat goes down for two to three days." I tiled my head with a smile. "As long as I bundle up, I should be good."
Momo smiled. "Glad to hear it."
"Can you two lovebirds quit it?" We turned to Aizawa and blushed as we noticed his eyes slitted open. "I'm trying to sleep."
Momo looked down, still blushing as she mumbled a reply and left. I looked down and my feet through the blanket. "Really, Aizawa?"
"You know I'm just teasing."
Inside, I smiled.
"Yeah, I know."
