Arc 02 Chapter 12 The Awaited Reunion! Twilight Sparkle Returns!
"Sunset, I know you have a way to contact Princess Twilight."
As soon as the words left his mouth all but Sunset gave Miko varying degrees of confusion and disbelief.
Rainbow Dash was the first to break the silence, stepping forward waving her arms. "Woah, woah, woah, woah, dude, are you feeling alright?" She asked him in disbelief, raising an eyebrow. "Cause' it sounded like you said Sunset has a way to contact Princess Twilight."
Miko rolled his eyes pushing off of the lockers. "That's exactly what I'm saying."
"Uh, heh, Miko, darling, maybe you should sit down, Maybe those horrid girls' Magic is getting to you." Rarity said, her voice nervous as she placed a comforting hand on Miko's shoulder.
"I'm fine Rarity, their Magic isn't affecting me like that." Miko replied calmly. "But we do need to get in contact with Twilight." He turned to Sunset, his gaze unwavering. "You know we can't handle this alone."
"Sugarcube, you're not making a lick of sense, how is Sunset supposed to get in touch with Princess Twilight?" Applejack spoke up, her hands on her hips.
"And moreover how is Twilight even gonna get here, the portal's closed isn't it?" Rainbow Dash added, just as skeptic.
Fluttershy nodded in agreement with Rainbow Dash and Applejack's skepticism. "Um... maybe we should just ask Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna for help?" She quietly suggested.
"Fluttershy is right." Rarity nodded thoughtfully. "We should inform Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna immediately."
Applejack, Rainbow, and Pinkie gave their nods in agreement with Rarity and Fluttershy, but Miko immediately shot that Idea down.
"That's not going to work." He said, crossing his arms.
They gave him puzzled looks. "Why not?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"Think about it, those three girls are new students right?" He asked which they nod wondering where he was going with this. "Where do new students usually go first?"
Sunset's eyes widened with understanding. "The principal's office."
Miko nodded grimly at her answer. "I wouldn't be surprised that Celestia and Luna are already under their spell." He said with a sigh before looking at them with a serious expression. "Twilight is our only chance at stopping all of this before it gets worse.
"But how do we contact Twilight if the portal's closed?" Fluttershy's eyes searched the group, hopeful for a solution.
"I..."
Everyone turned their attention to Sunset who took a deep breath before speaking, "I think I understand what Miko means when he said I have a way to contact Princess Twilight."
Her friends looked at her curiously. "You do?" Rainbow Dash asked.
She nodded, gesturing for them to follow her. "Come on, we need to get to my locker."
With curious looks exchanged, they trailed after Sunset, their footsteps echoing through the empty hallways.
"I can't believe they got everybody." Rainbow Dash murmured as they walked through the empty hallways.
"Not everybody!" Pinkie said with a grin. "They didn't get us, right?"
"Pinkie Pie's right. We were there when those um..." Applejack paused, trying to find the right words.
"The Dazzlings." Miko answered for Applejack.
They all turned to him with confusion. "The what?"
"The Dazzlings. That's their band name." He said with a shrug.
"Uh...right..." Applejack looked at Miko with a raised eyebrow and continued her train of thought. "when the Dazzlings were singin' and we weren't affected. It was like we were protected somehow."
"I wonder why?" Rarity mused, her eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
"I might have an Idea." Miko said with another shrug.
"You do?" Sunset stopped in her tracks, her eyes searching Miko's face for answers.
Miko nodded. "Yeah, It's possible that you were all protected by the Equestrian magic within all of you. As for me, I was protected by my own powers."
"So, what you're saying darling is that the magic inside us is keeping us safe from the Dazzlings' spell?" Rarity asked with surprise.
Miko nodded. "Possibly, but that's just my theory though." He said.
"Still besides the Dazzlings, I wonder why there's still Magic around here in CHS, it should've disappeared when Princess Twilight went back to Equestria." Sunset mused as they approached her locker.
"Now that, is another theory I have. But I tell you guys once Twilight gets here so I don't have to repeat myself." Miko said with a smirk.
"And how are you so sure that whatever Sunset has is gonna be able to message Twilight?" Applejack questioned, her skepticism clear as they gathered around the locker.
Miko sighed at Applejack's skepticism. "Look, AJ just trust me on this okay?" He said as Sunset opened her locker and began rummaging through it.
Applejack gave Rainbow Dash a look that said 'are we really going to trust him on this?' But Rainbow just shrugged her shoulders, trusting Miko's judgment.
After a brief moment, Sunset picked up a big dusty book with a logo of a shimmering sun on the cover.
"When I was Princess Celestia's student back in Equestria, she gave me this." Sunset said dusting off the cover. "Even after I abandoned my studies, I held onto it. Deep down, I guess I knew I was making a big mistake, and I wanted to still have a way to reach out to her." She said with regret in her voice as she opened the book and stopping on a blank page. "Maybe it still works."
"That's a book, darling. What do you mean, "maybe it still works"?" Rarity asked, her curiosity piqued as she leaned closer to the book.
"It's a Magic book, Rarity." Miko said with a shrug. "It's a two way spell that can send messages to another book and vice versa." He nodded towards the book in Sunset's hands.
Despite being a little freaked out by how much Miko knew about her book Sunset nodded in agreement. "Miko's right. It used to be that if I wrote something here, it would appear in the pages of a book back in Princess Celestia's library. I get a message to her, then she can get a message to Princess Twilight."
"So what are you waiting for? Get to writing!" Rainbow Dash said with a grin before holding up a pen for Sunset to write with. She took it with a nervous look on her face before Miko placed a hand on her shoulder.
He nodded with an encouraging smile. "Everything's going to be fine, Sunset."
She nodded back with a smile of her own before she took a breath. "It's been a long time since I've written these words." She said as she started writing. "Dear Princess Celestia..."
Equestria
To the humans in the Human World, it may not have seemed a long time since Twilight visited Canterlot High School to retrieve the stolen crowns back, but in reality, things have changed drastically for the Mane 6.
They have had to stop the Everfree Forest from taking over Equestria, find the secret keys to their Element of Harmony in order to unlock the mysterious Chest of Harmony, and finally a huge battle of magic against the evil Lord Tirek.
However, they were all able to withstand these obstacles and overcome them as well and it in turn unlocked something special for the Mane 6, especially for one Princess Twilight Sparkle who was now titled the Princess of Friendship.
It was a beautiful day in Ponyville and over the far edge of the little town, a tree-styled crystal castle stands known to all as the Castle of Friendship, Princess Twilight's new home.
Inside of the castle throne room, a couple of doors open to reveal a delivery stallion hauling a cart piled high with books. At the central throne room, the Mane 6 could all be seen doing their own thing enjoying the new castle.
Princess Twilight was sitting in the center of the floor with a stack of books and envelopes alongside as she read from a document held in her magic.
Rarity has taken a seat on her own throne, resting on her belly as she telekinetically polishes one arm with a cloth.
Spike is also seen reading a Daring Do book to relax a little. Applejack and Fluttershy push a very large crate across the floor with head and hooves, respectively, and Pinkie Pie blows up a balloon while seated on a vacant throne.
A delivery stallion then pulls up at the circle of thrones. "Excuse me, Princess. Where do you want all these books from Princess Celestia?"
"The library. Third door on the left." Twilight instructed as she pointed towards said room.
"Even this one that's glowin' and vibratin'?" The delivery stallion asked as he pointed to said glowing and vibrating book on top of the pile.
Taking notice of this Twilight levitated it closer to her to see why.
as the other five mares take notice. Applejack and Fluttershy step a bit closer, while Pinkie Pie floats off Applejack's throne on her giant balloon. The book quiets down once Twilight opens it and riffles the pages, something she sees causes her to stop and stare wide eyed.
"What is it, Twilight?" Fluttershy asked in curiosity and slight concern as she and the others made their way closer to her.
"It looks like...a message to Princess Celestia from my friends at Canterlot High." Twilight answered in surprise and concern.
"How is that even possible?" Rarity wondered in surprise.
"I have no idea..." Twilight said as she continued to read the book. "...but it sounds like they need my help."
Once everyone got to the library, Twilight levitated a book out of the bookshelf.
"The way Sunset Shimmer described them, I think these new girls sound an awful lot like... the sirens." Twilight explained to the girls and Spike after reading what Sunset told her as she placed the book down on the table.
"Not the sirens!" Pinkie exclaimed in horror before whispering to Fluttershy. "I don't actually know what that is!"
Choosing to ignore Pinkie's antics, Twilight continued her explanation of the sirens. "The sirens were three beautiful but dangerous creatures who had the power to charm ponies with their music." She explained as she opened the book to a page showing three finned dragon beasts, with horse heads and forelegs sitting on a rocky outcropping amid ocean waves. One is red-orange, one is violet, and one blue-green, and each has a large red gem embedded in its chest. They raise their heads to sing, streams of magic issuing from their mouths. They float over a seaside village as the residents argue.
"But to maintain this power, they had to feed on the negativity and distrust of others." Twilight then showed an image of ponies butting heads as wisps of green haze that stream up to the sirens. "The more of this negative energy they consumed, the stronger their voices became, and the farther they could spread their dark magic."
Everyone seemed slightly unnerved from hearing this story. "I don't think I like this story very much." Fluttershy commented.
"If the sirens had their way, they would have divided and conquered all of Equestria. But a certain Star Swirl the Bearded wasn't having it." Twilight further narrated as her idol is now mentioned in the tale. "Rumor has it he found a way to banish them to another world – one where he believed their magic power would be lost."
She then showed an image of said unicorn wizard banishing the Sirens to another world. "That world must have been the Human world, the world where my Canterlot High friends live." She deduced with a look of concern.
"But Star Swirl must have sent them there ages ago. How come they're just surfacin' now?" Applejack questioned with a confused look.
"I don't know." Twilight honestly answered. "But if my hunch is right and it is the Ssrens who have come to Canterlot High, this spell they've cast is just the beginning" she said, closing the book.
"Wait, what about that one friend of yours you met the last time you were there, the one with the weird powers? What was his name? Miko?" Rainbow Dash spoke up. "Maybe he can stop those Sirens." She suggested with the others agreeing.
But Twilight shook her head immediately shooting that idea down. "Unfortunately, Sunset's message said Miko is refusing to use his powers because he's worried the Sirens might have a way to use it against them." She said with a small frown on her muzzle. "My friends need me, I have to get back to them."
"I hate to burst your bubble, but the connection between their world and Equestria will still be totally cut off for a super long time." Rainbow Dash pointed out as she flew right in front of the purple alicorn just as she turned to do something.
Pinkie suddenly zips up between them. "Okay, first of all, if there was bubble-blowing going on, why wasn't I told about it?!" Pinkie randomly commented. "And secondly, if the connection is totally cut off, how was Sunset Shimmer able to get a message to Twilight?" She added as she pointed a hoof in Twilight's direction.
The bookworm mulls this over for a split second, then let's out a gasp as inspiration strikes. "Pinkie, you're a genius!" She said as she trotted off ahead.
"Yeah, I get that a lot." Pinkie proudly said while missing the point Twilight had in mind before pulling Rainbow Dash to her face. "Now about those bubbles!" She exclaimed at Rainbow.
Any further confrontation is forgotten when the two catch sight of Twilight trotting back the way she came, levitating several pieces of electrical equipment in her wake.
The others are equally dumbfounded at her return, but she pays no mind and gets to work, directing her magic back and forth to hook up the components.
Once she was completely done, Twilight's little rig is mounted on an upward-angled arm, part of a complex arrangement of machinery and antennas that would fit perfectly into the laboratory of any self-respecting mad scientist.
The heart of the entire system was the magic mirror that was last seen in the Crystal Castle, that she used to travel to the Human World a while ago.
Soon Twilight was giving a rather long explanation to her friends on how her machine works. "...And the interval between the two points is defined as the square root of the sum of the squares of the separation between the points along three spatial dimensions." She finished with a big smile.
Every one of them has gotten completely lost in her explanation. The one possible exception is Pinkie, whose smile suggests that she either has managed to follow perfectly or is entirely oblivious...but most likely the latter.
"Say what now?" Spike said, having now idea what Twilight was talking about.
"Duh!" Pinkie exclaimed, getting their attention. "She's gonna take the magic in here and put it in there." She rapidly explained as she pointed to the book and then to the mirror. "That'll make the portal open up so that whenever she wants to, she can go from here to there." She added as she did cartwheels in front of the mirror portal. "There to here. Here to there. Here there! Here there! Here- " Pinkie rapidly explained before Applejack cut her off.
"We...get the Idea." Applejack said a bit weirded out how the pink mare managed to understand all that.
The pink goofball, was sprawled out on the base, snaps upright and trots placidly away from it as Twilight crosses to her newly built setup.
"Now to see if it actually works." Twilight said as she used her magic to levitate the book into the elevated holder and the sun on its cover flares white as the bulbs above it energize.
That blinding spot floats into the air and bursts into two ribbons of electric charge that stream into the antennas, which in turn take more charge from the leather cover and begin to crackle with sparks, reaching an eye-searing brightness.
"Ooohhh..." The Mane Six and Spike said in awe.
Tons of chain reactions occur as Twilight watches closely, a large beam of light channels itself into the mirror and the glass becomes a fitful rippling of white wave fronts against a magenta ground. She shields her eyes an instant before one last flash of white blinds everyone's view and now the mirror's surface has calmed down to a steady swirling pattern, and Twilight smiles broadly.
"Aaahhh..." The Mane Six and Spike said in awe again.
Spike just then remembered something and turned to Twilight. "Twilight, since the Portal's open now, are you going to tell Miko?" He asked. "What Princess Celestia told us...he deserves to know."
Twilight paused, her smile fading slightly, as she Remembered what happened six months prior.
Flashback
It's been a week since Princess Twilight had returned from the Human world as she called it and the Mane Six were in the Canterlot Castle on the way to Princess Celestia and Princess Luna's throne room.
The rest of the Mane Six were wondering why Twilight wanted to go see the two alicorn sisters and when asked she just said she needed some answers for a friend, much to their confusion but Spike immediately knew what she meant.
As they entered they were greeted by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna sitting on their thrones who smiled at them and bowed in greeting.
"Ah, Twilight." Celestia said warmly, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. "What brings you and your friends here today?"
Luna nodded in agreement. "When my sister received your message that all of you were coming to Canterlot, we had a feeling this wasn't a social visit. Is there something troubling you, Twilight?"
Twilight turned to her friends before she spoke up. "Princesses, I wanted to ask if you know anything about something called the Giant of Light and The Light of Hope." She paused, her eyes darting around the room, her voice filled with a mix of urgency and apprehension.
The sisters' eyes widened and before turning to each other, they shared a look that spoke of a long-forgotten secret.
Applejack looked at Twilight in confusion. "The Giant of Light and The Light of Hope?" she repeated. "What's all this about, Twi?"
Rainbow Dash leaned in, her curiosity piqued. "Yeah, Twilight, you've got us all in suspense here. What's going on?"
Fluttershy nervously fidgeted with her hooves. "Is... is this about your new friend, Twilight?"
"Twilight this is about Miko, Isn't it?" Spike spoke up, his voice filled with understanding. Twilight nodded.
"Twilight tell us everything." Celestia's voice was firm but gentle, and it was clear she knew this was important. Twilight took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before she began.
She told them everything about how she met Miko after going through the portal, how he agreed to help take her crown back from Sunset Shimmer, them helping everyone in Canterlot High fix their friendships, about his powers and how Rainbow Dash's human doppelganger was his childhood friend much to the said Mare's surprise, how he went against Sunset when she became a demon after using the crown, and especially The Giant of Light that was connected to Miko and his philosophy of the Light of Hope.
"And that's about everything Princess." Twilight concluded her story, her eyes searched the room for any signs of understanding from her friends or the Royal Sisters.
"Woah, woah, woah, are you saying this dude can fly? And without wings?!" Rainbow Dash said breaking the silence, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"And he's as strong if not stronger than an earth pony?" Applejack added, still trying to wrap her head around the concept of a being that didn't conform to Equestrian norms.
"And you said he can use some kind of energy to fight?" Rarity questioned with a raised brow, her curiosity piqued by the description of Miko's abilities.
"And his powers aren't Magic?" Fluttershy's voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes wide with astonishment.
"That...sounds... Awesome!" Rainbow Dash started deadpan, before exclaiming with excitement.
Pinkie bounced in excitement as she started bombarding Twilight with questions. "What is he like? What does he look like? Did you eat any human food? Did he eat any pony food? Does he like cake? Does he like parties?"
Spike bounced in excitement himself. "You guys should've been there! When he went against Sunset Shimmer and flew for the first time he looked like a real superhero!"
Twilight smiled at her friends' reactions before turning to the two pony sisters who looked like they were processing a lot of information. "So, do either of you know anything about the Giant of Light or the Light of Hope?" she asked, hopeful.
Princess Celestia glanced at Princess Luna and both nodded in agreement. "Twilight, follow us." She gestured towards a hidden corridor behind the thrones. The Mane Six exchanged puzzled looks but followed.
The corridor was lined with torches that cast a warm glow on the ancient stone walls, and the sound of their hooves echoed down the hall. The air was thick with anticipation as the Mane Six and Spike trailed after Celestia and Luna. They reached a grand library filled with scrolls and books that stretched high into the air, held by elegant wooden shelves that curved around the room. The sisters led them to a specific section, and Luna levitated down a dusty tome from the top shelf.
The time had a brown cover looking like an ordinary book but one thing stood out was the bright silver vortex-like symbol in the middle that almost seemed to give off a gentle light of its own.
Luna opened opened the book to reveal ancient illustrations of a mighty figure, it was almost human like, the difference was it's silver body with red markings and the oval shaped white eyes on its blank face and a dorsal fin on top of it's head ridging down to the nose, but the most notable thing was the blue circular gem on its pages were brittle and yellowed with age, but the images remained vivid.
The Mane Six and Spike lightly gasped as they looked at the illustration, their eyes drawn to the uncanny resemblance between the figure in the book and Miko's description. The Giant of Light stood tall, its form poised as if ready to face any challenge, with a gentle but stoic expression that seemed to radiate hope and protection.
"Many years ago..." Celestia started getting their attention. "... before my sister and I took the throne, a mysterious creature from the stars crashed landed on Equestria, a terrifying monster that brought untold chaos and destruction in its path." She said, making them gasp in horror as she turned to a page showing a giant black and red reptilian-like monster ravaging the land and ponies running for their lives.
"Many have tried and failed to destroy the creature, even lost their lives in the process, including our parents..." Celestia's voice grew solemn as she turned the page to reveal a heartbreaking scene of two alicorns facing off against the monster.
Luna took over the narrative, her eyes never leaving the book. "All hope seemed to be lost, but then..."
The page flipped to show the Giant of Light standing valiantly, its eyes focused on the monster, the blue gem on its chest glowing with a fierce light. "The Giant of Light appeared," she continued, "a being from another world, having unparalleled strength and power to harness the very essence of light itself, the giant fought the creature, bringing hope to the terrified ponies."
The illustrations depicted an epic battle, light clashing against shadow, the Giant's form blurring as it moved with incredible speed, the monster roaring in fury as it was pushed back. Twilight felt a surge of awe as she realized the magnitude of the tale she was hearing.
Celestia turned the page showing an illustration of the Giant hunched slightly putting its arms in a plus "+" sign, with the right arm vertical and the left one horizontal, firing a powerful blue beam from it's right vertical hand, the light pierced the monster, roaring in agony, as it's body started to disintegrate.
"After a long hard battle the Giant dealt the final blow, and destroyed the monster, bringing peace to Equestria once more." Celestia said with a sigh of relief. "The Giant was hailed as a hero and revered for his power, but unfortunately as time passed, the legend of the Giant of Light was forgotten by all except for a select few who guarded this knowledge."
"But why isn't it taught in schools?" Pinkie Pie asked with a pout. "It's like the coolest story ever!"
Princess Luna nodded gravely. "The tale of the Giant of Light was deemed too... extraordinary for common knowledge. It was feared that such power could be misinterpreted, or worse, sought after by those with malicious intent."
"But what happened to the Giant, Princess?" Fluttershy asked, her eyes never leaving the page.
Luna shook her head. "Nopony knows, after the battle the Giant gave one last look to the land he had saved and flew off into the sky, never to be seen again."
"Twilight, your friend, does he...show any signs of being a Giant of Light?" Luna inquired, her voice filled with a mix of wonder and caution.
"Besides having similar powers? No." Twilight replied thoughtfully, her gaze returning to the image of the Giant in the book. "But he said he has been in contact with one in his dreams."
Celestia looked at her sister, and a silent conversation passed between them. "Tell us more about these dreams, Twilight."
"Well, he told me that The Giant told him he is meant to become something more than just himself and that in order to reach his full potential he must reignite the fires of his own two beliefs." She paused, looking up from the book to her friends.
"And what are these...beliefs darling?" Rarity asked, her curiosity peaked.
Twilight smiled and answered. "The first is The Light of Hope."
"And what exactly is The Light of Hope?" Rainbow Dash leaned in, intrigued by the cryptic phrasing.
"Miko told me it's about giving hope to others, reaching out to those who have taken a dark path or those who have fallen to despair, never giving up, to keep reaching out your hand until they take it, to walk towards a brighter tomorrow." She explained remembering the exact words he had told her.
The rest of the Mane Six smiled at Twilight's explanation, each one nodding in understanding. It was a concept that resonated deeply within them, echoing the very essence of their own Elements of Harmony. Applejack spoke up first. "That sure does sound like something we could all get behind."
"And the second?" Luna asked, her eyes never leaving Twilight's, her curiosity growing.
"The Magic of Friendship." Was all Twilight said as everyone but Spike's eyes widened in surprise.
"The Magic of Friendship? But how's that possible? I thought it only exists here in Equestria?" Applejack exclaimed, her eyes wide with wonder.
Twilight shook her head, still smiling. "Miko told me that he believes that The Magic of Friendship doesn't just exist in Equestria, but possibly in the entire universe," she said, her voice filled with wonder. "That's how your human selves and I were able to stop Sunset Shimmer and make her see the error of her ways."
Princess Celestia closed the book with a gentle thump. "The Magic of Friendship is indeed powerful, Twilight. It has brought peace and balance to our world countless times," she mused, a hint of a smile playing on her lips.
"But I still have questions on the Light of Hope, I told Miko, that I speculated The Light of Hope is more than just a belief or philosophy, not an element per say but a force that compliments the Elements of Harmony." Twilight looked up to Celestia and Luna, searching for any indication they knew something more.
Celestia and Luna shared another knowing look. "The Light of Hope is indeed a force, Twilight," Celestia began, "But unfortunately what my sister and I only know about it is that it does indeed exist, and while similar to the Elements, it is older and more ancient. It predates even further back before Equestria existence and whatever Information was lost to time."
Luna nodded in agreement. "What we do know is that it is a power that is innate to those who wield it, not something that can be taught or learned."
Twilight felt a knot in her stomach. "So, Miko might be the only one with this power?"
"Yes, If he truly is connected to the Giant of Light," Celestia replied. "Then he carries a unique burden and a great responsibility."
The Mane Six exchanged glances, each of them processing the gravity of what they had just learned.
Twilight looked at the book, a small frown on her muzzle thinking about her Pen Pal. 'Miko...'
Flashback End
"Twilight?" Spike called her name, snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked up to find him and the Mane Six looking at her expectantly.
"I'm sorry Spike, what was the question?" Twilight replied, her mind still racing of what happened months previously.
"I was asking if we should tell Miko what we learned from Princess Celestia and Princess Luna." Spike repeated, his eyes filled with anticipation.
After another moment of thought she nodded. "Yes, Spike. We will tell him. He has a right to know about it. He deserves that much." She turned to the mirror.
"Twilight?" Applejack said, getting her attention. "Don't suppose we could join you this time around?" She hopefully asked if they could.
"Better not." Twilight kindly declined. "It could make things pretty confusing if Canterlot High all of a sudden had two of all of you."
All, but Spike nodded and voiced a range of agreement.
"But I still get to go, right?" Spike pleaded to come. "There isn't another one of me at Canterlot High. And you never know if you might need your trusty assistant."
"Mm-hmm." Twilight replied with a nod.
"Yes!" Spike exclaimed in excitement.
"We won't be gone long." Twilight told the others as they all hugged.
"Oh, you be careful, Twilight." Fluttershy told her.
"Take care!" Rainbow Dash said.
"Y'all be safe now." Applejack wished her luck.
"And don't forget to dress well." Rarity said as they break apart from the hug to which Pinkie still hugs Twilight after a few more good seconds before finally letting go of her with a big squeaky grin.
"Ready, Spike?" Twilight asked Spike before he cracked his knuckles, blew out a breath, and dropped to a three-point stance, stretching his legs out to full extension one at a time.
"Ready!" Spike positively replied.
The Princess hunched down determinedly, and both rushed toward the mirror. Spike plunges through its swirling aura and then Twilight as a brief flare of white hiding them from view as they make contact.
Human World
At the front lawn of CHS the Rainbooms along with Sunset and Miko were still waiting near the statue for a message, a sign, or even the mirror itself to signal that Twilight had received Sunset's message to her. Fluttershy's hand was being held up by Rarity as she polished her nails.
Rainbow Dash and Sunset Shimmer were sitting by the base of the statue with the latter reading the old entries in her magic journal while Rainbow was tossing her soccer ball around.
Applejack and Pinkie Pie were seated on top of the statue while Miko was floating in between them as the three played poker.
Applejack showed a hand of four aces thinking she won to which Pinkie with a smug smile responds by showing four jacks to which she proudly crosses her arms much to Applejack's annoyance that's not the winning move in this card game.
They turned to Miko who still hadn't shown his hand, smirking as he showed them. "Royal flush, Read' em and weep."
Pinkie and Applejack gave him sour looks before handing him five bucks each.
Miko chuckled while taking the money. "I warned you that betting against me was a bad idea. But did you listen? No." He said smugly before pocketing the money.
"Oh, apple fudge, how in the hay do ya keep winnin'?" Applejack said in irritation. "That's the fifth time!" She exclaimed with Pinkie Pie nodding in agreement pouting at their lost
Miko shrugged. "No Idea, for some reason I always had good luck with gambling, never lost." He said with a smug smile.
Rainbow Dash continued tossing her soccer ball before she sighed with impatience. "I'm starting to think she's not coming."
"Just give her time Dash, I'm sure she's already trying to find a way to open the portal again," Miko assured her, floating back down to the ground. 'Provided she already made the machine to open it.' he mentally said as an afterthought.
She turned to him with a skeptical look. "You really think so?"
Miko nodded, his eyes reflecting his confidence. "Twilight's pretty clever. If anyone can figure out a way to open the portal again, it's her."
"Umm, Miko? Have you ever tried opening the portal yourself by using your powers?" Fluttershy asked in curiosity as Rarity continued to paint her nails.
Miko shook his head. "Nope," he said, popping the P. "I didn't want to risk breaking it if I tried."
They all nodded in understanding, appreciating Miko's caution.
"Although, during my free time I did try to open up a breach between worlds by using my enhanced speed." He said, rubbing his chin, thinking back to his crazy attempts to go to Equestria.
Rainbow raised an eyebrow at her best friend. "So basically, you were trying to copy The Flash." She deadpanned, tossing her ball up in the air and catching it again.
"What? The Scarlet Speedster's way to travel universes was the only way I could think of to get to Equestria!" Miko exclaimed in indignation. "And I was binge watching CW's the Flash the night before that..." He lowly admitted, his cheeks slightly reddening at the tease.
"And? Did it work?" Rarity asked, setting the nail polish aside to lean in closer.
"No..." He replied, looking down at his feet slightly embarrassed. "I just kept breaking the sound barrier and scaring the crap out of birds. And the one time I tried it at night, the cops got called on me for disturbing the peace." He laughed nervously.
Just then, a swirling vortex appeared at the base of the statue getting their attention.
Miko released a small sigh of relief as the portal finally opened. 'A little later than I expected, but better late than never, I guess.' He thought to himself before he winced as the familiar Human form of Twilight and the dog form of Spike shot out of the portal and fell flat on their faces.
"Twilight!" The Rainbooms and Sunset exclaimed in happiness and excitement.
Said girl got up on her knees and rubbed the back of her head shaking of the cobwebs as going through the portal was disorienting.
Once Twilight got her bearings she turned to everyone smiling at her. "I'm back..." She said in a slightly nervous voice before Sunset came over and offered her a hand. Twilight seemed hesitant at first until she accepted it before she was immediately pulled into a group hug by the Rainbooms.
Miko grinned at the reunion of friends before Twilight turned her gaze in his direction and her eyes widened upon seeing him.
Miko walked over to her as the girls separated the group hug. "Told you we'd see each other again."
Twilight smiled brightly before pulling him into a hug to which he gladly obliged. She giggled during this. "It's good to see you too...Mr. hero."
After a moment, they both separated as Twilight turned to the others. "It's nice seeing all of you as well. I got your message."
"Really? Does that mean..." Miko's voice trailed off.
Twilight nodded, her face slightly grim. "Yeah, I have some bad news about those new girls."
This made everyone, but Miko, nervous.
Seeing that they needed to take their conversation somewhere private where the Dazzlings could most likely not interfere with their planning.
The Rainbooms decided to take Twilight to the Sweet Shoppe for not only information, but also as a small reunion to welcome her back to their world.
Pinkie brings over a couple of drinks as she gives Twilight one before sitting beside Miko to lean on him which he didn't mind.
"Oh, I do hate that you had to return at a time of crisis." Rarity said after taking a sip of her tea."There's so much catching up to do!" She said excitedly.
"For starters, a certain blue-haired guitar player was just askin' about you." Applejack said with a knowing smirk.
Twilight perked up as she drank her shake. "Flash Sentry was asking about me?" She asked in excitement, blushing before she began to twirl her hair around her finger, until she noticed Miko, Sunset, and the Rainbooms were all smirking at her reaction.
Twilight quickly got rid of her blush and cleared her throat before speaking. "Isn't that nice?" She said trying to act cool, taking a quick sip of her milkshake.
"A-Anyways, Miko, how have things been going with you since everyone at the school knows about your powers?" Twilight asked, trying to change the subject, her eyes focused on her friend.
Miko smirked in amusement at Twilight's attempt to change the subject but decided to let it go for now, he shrugged. "Eh, It's has its ups and downs, most people seem fine with me having superpowers, unfortunately there have been some selfish students here and there who want to use me for personal gain." He said with a slightly annoyed tone at the end.
Rainbow Dash nodded in agreement just as annoyed that someone would try to use her best friend. "Yeah, but we've made sure those kinds of students never came anywhere near him again after that. Right girls?"
The Rainbooms nodded in unison, a look of protectiveness crossing their faces.
"Well, that's good. It must feel nice to know that you don't have to hide your powers anymore." Twilight said with genuine happiness for her friend.
"Yeah, honestly it's a relief not to have to keep it a secret anymore," Miko said, taking a sip of his drink. "So, anything Interesting happened in your world?" He asked despite already knowing what happened.
And so Twilight went on and explained to Miko and the Rainbooms about everything she went through after she went back home and how she had lots of new adventures along with her friends there.
One of which involved having to take down an evil centaur named Tirek who wanted to steal all of the magic from every living creature in order to take over the world.
She also explained how she managed to reopen the portal by linking Celestia's journal to the crystal mirror using a set of machine parts. Thus, it opened the portal indefinitely allowing anyone to pass through it any time they please.
"Wow, that definitely is a lot for someone to go through." Miko said, his voice filled with genuine amazement as he leaned back in his chair, sipping his drink. "You know, for a princess, you've done a great job so far by protecting the citizens and those you care about, Twilight."
"Thank you Miko." Twilight said, smiling in appreciation for his kind words.
"She even has an official title now." Spike said before he used his doggy treat as a trumpet and imitated fanfare. "The Princess of Friendship!"
"Wow, that's really impressive." Sunset Shimmer said honestly, a hint of admiration in her voice. "Guess you really were Princess Celestia's prized pupil." She said somberly, her eyes filled with regret and sadness.
"Hey..."
Sunset looked up to see Miko looking at her with a gentle smile, his eyes filled with understanding. It was clear he had noticed the sadness in her voice. She smiled in return, grateful for his unspoken support.
"She's even got her own castle." Spike continued, looking a little smug.
"A castle?!" Rarity leans toward Twilight with gusto, startling said Princess into spilling her drink on herself. "You have your own castle?!"
She then realizes that the rest of the friends were looking at her strangely, Rarity blushes slightly before she clears her throat and grabs a napkin to clean Twilight off. "Ooh, uh, lovely." She said, smiling bashfully.
"So what's new here? I mean, besides your school becoming the target of dangerous magical creatures from Equestria?" Twilight asked, her eyes twinkling with a mix of amusement and curiosity.
Miko looked at the girls for a second before taking his phone out of his pocket. "Well, there is this."
He showed Twilight the photos of the Rainbooms in their Pony-Up forms, much to her shock.
"Th-they all transformed again?!" She exclaimed, her eyes wide as she took in the images on Miko's screen.
"Pretty sweet huh?" Rainbow Dash said with a proud grin, before she leaned back on her chair with her feet on the table and her arms crossed behind her head. "It happens to all of us when we play?"
"Except for me even though I play in the band also." Miko said, putting his phone away.
"Hmm. My crown was returned to Equestria, but some of its magic must have remained here at Canterlot High." Twilight said before smiling as she looked at each of her friends. "Now that we're all back together, we can use that magic on the sirens. Just like when we were able to use it on Sunset Shimmer when she turned into that horrifyingly awful winged monster!" She said excitedly before she realized what she said and turned to a disgruntled Sunset. "Uh, No offense..." She said sheepishly.
"None taken..." Sunset said with a sigh. "Heh, I'm used to it."
"They'll never know what hit them!" Rainbow said as she stood up from her chair before she started doing a bunch of karate kicks and punches before Miko caught her fist with an amused grin.
"Jeez, cool your jets Dash, let's not get ahead of ourselves," Miko said, letting go of Rainbow's fist.
Rainbow chuckled before sitting back down on her chair
Applejack nodded in agreement with Miko's words. "Miko's right, besides we've got nothin' to worry about now that Twilight's back." She said with confidence.
"Oh, I'm pretty sure I could find something to worry about." Fluttershy nervously murmured under her breath, before she smiles brightly, hugging Spike. "But it won't be the sirens."
"The sooner we do this, the better." Twilight said with a determined smirk. "Any idea where the Dazzlings might be?" She asked both Rarity and Sunset to which they shook their heads.
Pinkie taps her shoulder and waves frantically while sucking on her milkshake, then backs off and sits down to finish it off before speaking. "There's a big party tonight for all the bands who signed up to be in the showcase! That would include the Dazzlings."
Twilight looked at the others before they all nodded in agreement. "Looks like we've got a party to crash." She said with a grin.
Miko nodded in agreement. "But we need to be careful. If the Dazzlings find out we're on to them, they might use their magic to make everyone stand against us, and if that happens...well, remember I'm not gonna be able to help much since I'm currently handicapped." He said with a sheepish grin.
The girls nodded in understanding of his predicament.
Soon they left the Sweet Shoppe, heading back to the school to prepare for the party.
As the group was walking Rainbow Dash walked beside Miko and nudged him. "Hey aren't you going to tell Twilight about...you know." She whispered, hinting towards what happened months prior.
Miko looked at her in confusion with a raised eyebrow, "About what?" He whispered back.
"About Black King..." She whispered back, her eyes darting to Twilight, who was a few steps ahead, chatting with Sunset and Rarity.
Miko's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, right." He murmured, his mind racing back to the battle with Black King. "Later, I can't exactly talk about it out here where someone could hear."
Rainbow nodded in understanding before the two of them fell in step with the rest of the group.
Later at the school's gymnasium.
The party for all of the participating bands for the newly named "Battle of the Bands" was in full swing, but it was obvious nobody was there for fun.
Miko observed every single one of the students and took note that everyone there was giving each other dirty looks the entire time while some were arguing.
"Well, it seems everybody is still grumpy, arrogant, and overly competitive..." He deadpanned as they looked around.
The girls nodded in agreement as they made their way into the gymnasium.
"Okay, looks like the Dazzlings aren't here yet, so let's be subtle for now but if any one of us sees them, signal the group immediately." Miko instructed, his eyes scanning the room.
They all nodded in agreement and went their separate ways to blend into the crowd.
Sunset went with Fluttershy, Applejack with Rarity, Pinkie and Rainbow Dash, and Miko with Twilight.
Meanwhile Flash Sentry was currently glaring at Snips and Snails while with his band before he sighed in annoyance.
"I'm gonna get more punch!" He said angrily before he and Twilight bumped into each other before he managed to catch her from falling.
"Twilight?" He said in surprise upon seeing her again.
Twilight immediately blushed from this and began speaking incoherently. "Eh, bumped into, always, doing?"
Despite the situation Miko couldn't help but snicker at Twilight's flustered state.
Flash helped her stand straight as Twilight composed herself. "What are you doing here? You came back for the big competition, right?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Something like that." Twilight said nervously, rubbing the back of her head.
Miko walked closer to them with a smile. "Hey Flash, what's up?" He said before taking a sip of his punch.
"Oh, hey Miko. You're in this competition as well?" Flash asked, eyeing him before glancing back at Twilight.
Miko nodded. "Yup, I'm the backup guitarist for the Rainbooms while Twilight here is helping us with something." He winked at Twilight, who rolled her eyes playfully.
"Huh. Interesting." Flash said, before narrowing his eyes slightly.
"Anyways, it's not like there's gonna be any real competition. No one here wants this as bad as my band does!" He said arrogantly before the Dazzlings soon entered the gym to which Rainbow noticed and pulled a chocolate chip from a cookie Pinkie was holding to toss it into Miko's hair to get his attention and let them know they're here.
Miko looked at who had thrown the chocolate chip and gave Rainbow a glare. "Seriously?" He whispered before he plucked the chip out of his hair and popped it into his mouth.
She and Pinkie animatedly pointed in the direction of the Dazzlings, who had just strutted into the gym to which Miko nodded before nudging Twilight's shoulder getting her attention and nodded over at the Dazzlings before she noticed them too and nodded.
"Hey, uh, could you excuse us for just a moment Flash?" Miko politely told him before he and Twilight walk off to rejoin the Rainbooms while Flash turns away with annoyance written across his face, but he just shrugs his shoulders.
All of the other girls except Pinkie step off from the snack spread. Pinkie hangs back long enough to get a cookie in each hand to go with the one still in her mouth. She lodges the two extras in her hair and hurries after the others, only to have them fall right back out.
"I'm guessing those girls are the Dazzlings?" Twilight asked her friends once they gathered in a corner of the gym, her eyes never leaving the three new arrivals.
Applejack nodded her eyes, not leaving the trio. "Eyup." She said, her arms crossed.
Miko couldn't help but sweatdrop once he felt a pair of eyes on him. "Umm, girls?" He whispered, nodding slightly in the direction of the Dazzlings. "Is Adagio Dazzle staring at me like I'm her next big meal ticket?"
Pinkie glanced at the Dazzlings before nodding cheerfully. "Yeah, she totally is!" She whispered back, a mouthful of cookie barely muffling her voice.
Miko's sweatdrop grew a bit bigger at that. "She is not being subtle is she?" He asked rhetorically before turning to Twilight. "So what's the plan Twilight?"
"Walk up and hit them with the Magic of Friendship," Twilight said confidently.
Miko blinked at her simple plan. "And…?" He prompted, expecting a bit more strategy from the usually meticulous Twilight.
"That's it " Twilight stated, still having a confident smile on her face.
Miko facepalmed. Before he could say anything else, Twilight and her friends, except for Sunset, walked up to the Dazzlings.
Sunset walked closer standing next to Miko as their friends approached the Dazzlings. "This is not going to end well, is it?" She murmured, deadpanning.
Miko took a sip of his punch deadpanning as well. "Do you want the optimistic answer, or the blunt answer?" He asked.
Sunset sighed. "Blunt."
"Fuck, no." He said simply before he took another sip of his punch.
Meanwhile, the Dazzlings watched as the other bands were either glaring or yelling at each other.
"Oh, no! No one's mingling! It's like there's some kind of underlying tension that could bubble to the surface at any minute!" Adagio said with mock surprise and sadness amusement in her eyes.
"It's the fruit punch, isn't it? I knew I used too much grape juice!" Sonata cluelessly commented as she held up said bottle causing Aria to roll her eyes.
"It's not the fruit punch! It's us!" Adagio corrected her while visibly irritated by her idiocy.
"But the punch is awful, too." Aria commented with a smirk.
"What do you know about good fruit punch?" Sonata argued glaring at Aria.
"More than you!" Aria argued back, glaring at Sonata.
"Do not!"
"Do too!"
Both girls argued as they began to lightly slapped each other.
"This is just the kickoff party, girls." Adagio said getting their attention. "Imagine what a tizzy they'll be in by the time the Battle of the Bands starts." She said while grinning sadistically to which the other two grinned as well.
"There isn't going to be a Battle of the Bands!" Twilight called out to them which immediately got their attention as Twilight and the Rainbooms stood in the middle of the gymnasium with determined expressions. "We're gonna make sure of that."
"Alright, girls, let's do this." She said as she and the Rainbooms joined hands with each other. "Friendship is Magic!" She shouted...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...but unfortunately nothing happened.
The Dazzlings just stood baffled and confused by this. And Sunset couldn't help but feel embarrassed for them as they silently stood with closed eyes, determined faces, and linked hands.
"Well, shit." Miko muttered with a sigh. 'Damn it, I should've told them this might not work.' He thought to himself as the Rainbooms and Twilight awkwardly opened their eyes.
"Uh, weren't there rainbows and lasers and stuff last time?" Rainbow whispered, looking at Twilight with confusion.
"I don't understand. We're all together again. Why isn't this working?" Twilight's voice was filled with confusion as she looked at her friends with a furrowed brow.
Meanwhile everyone continued to stare as the Dazzlings soon smirked at their inability to bring out the friendship magic.
Sunset looked at Miko and whispered. "Maybe we should've had a backup plan?"
"No shit, I mean the only time their magic would appear is when they play their instruments...that can't be a coincidence." Miko whispered back, his mind racing for an alternative.
Spike poked his head out of Twilight's backpack and whispered to her. "You, uh... really need to go ahead and do that whole "magic of friendship" thing now."
"I'm trying, Spike. I thought the six of us standing together against the sirens would bring out the magic we needed to defeat them. That's what happened before." Twilight whispered back, her eyes darting to the Dazzlings who were still watching with smirks on their faces.
"Talk about throwing down the gauntlet!" Adagio chuckled, her smirk growing wider. "This group is obviously serious about winning! A little cocky though, aren't they? Claiming there won't really be a battle. Seems they think they've already got this thing all locked up." She said riling up the other competitors.
"Not if the Great and Powerful Trrrrrixie has anything to do with it!" Trixie Lulamoon announced dramatically, her own band standing behind her.
Flash scoffed. "Whatever, Trixie! We're the best band at CHS!" He retorted, his own band glaring at Trixie's.
"No! The Crusaders are gonna win!" Applebloom argued, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle standing alongside her.
Soon after that is when they all started fighting and yelling again. This soon caused the green mist to appear once more from the negativity as the Dazzlings soon began absorbing it into their pendants as they displayed prideful looks.
"Double shit." Miko murmured to himself, watching the mist spread and the Dazzlings' power grow stronger.
After they were done feasting off the negativity, the Dazzlings looked into the crowd and noticed that Twilight and the Rainbooms weren't affected at all.
"I think we may have found what we're looking for. Or rather, it found us." Adagio Said while smiling sinisterly as Aria understood what she meant and smirked while Sonata didn't understand at all.
This caused Aria to facepalm while Adagio got annoyed. "Magic!" She exclaimed to Sonata. "Don't you see?! Everyone else has fallen under our spell. But not these girls. These girls are special."
She then looked again and noticed Miko seemingly unaffected by their magic as he led Sunset, Twilight, and the Rainbooms out of the gym.
Miko was the last one to leave but stopped as he felt eyes on him, looking back he saw Adagio staring at him intensely, a knowing glint in her eyes, smirking smugly.
He glared at Adagio, his fists clenching. 'This isn't over,' he thought to himself, before turning and running out of the gym to catch up with the others.
"So I was right, he is one of them..." Adagio said watching Miko leave the room, the smirk on her face growing into a full smile. "He is a Giant of Light."
The Dazzlings exchange glances and they knew if they got him under their control, it would be easy to take over this world. They began to devise a plan to isolate Miko and make him vulnerable to their song.
After the party outside the school
The group were sitting on the steps while Twilight stood in front of them.
"Well that was a bust." Miko couldn't help but comment as he leaned forward, his face in his hands as he sat on the stairs.
"It doesn't make any sense. I should have been able to create the spark that would help us break their spell. That's how it worked before." She said pacing in front of them, her eyes focused on the floor.
"But to defeat me, you drew magic from the crown I was wearing." Sunset emphasized this by holding up her hands on her head as if to mimic a crown. "The sirens' magic comes from their music. So maybe you have to use the same kind of magic to defeat them." She suggested.
Twilight turns back to Sunset a little bit surprised.
"Or... maybe not." Sunset said, sounding unsure of yourself.
"No. I think you're onto something." Twilight said, smiling at the redhead.
"Really?" Sunset said with a hint of hope.
Twilight nodded before turning to the others "It's when you play music that you transform now, right?" She asked.
"Yup. Ears, tails, the whole shebang." Applejack nodded with a grin.
"So maybe the way to use that magic to defeat the sirens is by playing a musical counter-spell!" Twilight said, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
"You mean like a song?" Fluttershy asked for clarification.
"That's exactly what she means, Fluttershy." Miko said with a nod as they all turned their attention to him.
He got up patting his pants. "The Sirens use their singing to control and manipulate people, right?" He looked at them for confirmation, at their nods he gained a smirk. "Then we'll just have to use our music to counter theirs. As the old saying goes, fight fire with fire."
Twilight nodded in agreement at Miko's words. "Miko's right. Also, in order to free everyone who's been exposed to the sirens' spell, we'll need them all to hear it."
The group of 8 then went deep into thought of how they were going to pull something like that off while getting the attention of all of the students at the same time before Rarity suddenly gasped and she got on her feet as an idea popped into her mind.
"The band competition!" She said in realization. "That's the next time we can be certain everyone will be in the same place at the same time."
"Guess the Rainbooms are the band to beat." Said Applejack as she got up from her seat with the others following suit.
"And I believe you, Twilight," Rarity said, her hand outstretched with a smile. "Just became the Rainbooms' newest member."
That piece of news catches Twilight completely off guard, and her face twists itself into an expression of horrified surprise.
The other five band member girls rush off the steps, all talking and laughing at once and completely missing the deflated dismay that has taken hold of Sunset.
Miko looks at Sunset and feels sympathy for her. He places a hand on her shoulder with a comforting smile. She returns it, knowing that someone was at least acknowledging her.
"Don't worry, they'll let you join the band. I'll even vouch for you." He says to Sunset with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood.
Sunset just nodded but there was still a question nagging at her mind and she couldn't help but ask. "Miko, do you...think they're still weary of me?"
"Huh?" This caught Miko by surprise as he sat down beside her. "What do you mean?"
"I know they've forgiven me and all, but if they didn't include me in the band...does that mean they also hold something against me like everyone else? I mean, Twilight was hesitant to take my hand when I helped her up." She bit her lip, her eyes downcast. "Do...do you still hold something against me?" She looked at him pleadingly.
Miko scooted closer to her before giving her a one-armed hug. "Hey, hey, hey, I think you're reading too much into it. Twilight was only weary because she hasn't been aware of your progress since you last met. And for everyone else, they've been friends for longer. They probably knew each other enough to know they can play instruments." He said reassuringly, patting her back.
"And...no I don't hold anything against you" he said looking at her with sincerity. "Well, besides that whoopee cushion prank you managed to pull on me at the cafeteria during sophomore year." He winked jokingly trying to ease the tension.
Sunset couldn't help but snicker, remembering the prank. "I'm surprised you remembered that." She said with a small smile.
"Hey, I had a reputation as the "king of all pranks" back in middle school, so of course my pride wasn't gonna live that one down." Miko chuckled, nudging Sunset's side gently with his elbow.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Sunset's smile grew a little more genuine as she leaned into the hug. "But you're okay with me being here, right?"
"Of course I am, Sunset, you've changed a lot since the Fall Formal. I know you have. And I'm happy to call you a friend." He offered her a warm smile.
They turned their attention to the Rainbooms who were gathered around an uncomfortably smiling Twilight making him sigh.
"I better stop the girls before they unintentionally put a crap ton of pressure on Twilight before she decides to carry the weight of CHS' fate on her shoulders." Miko whispered to Sunset as he stood up, gently patting her back one more time.
He whistled sharply, catching the attention of the Rainbooms. "Look girls, it's nice that you all have faith in Twilight's capabilities, but we can't just expect her to have all the answers right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, Twilight is an intelligent girl." Twilight smiled slightly at the compliment. "But we can't put her through any kind of stress or expect her to do this on her own. We need to offer our support to her in any way we can think of."
"He's right. I can't do all of this on my own so I'm counting on you to help me out as well if you want me to be able to come up with a counter-spell." Twilight said with a smile, looking at her friends.
Miko nodded at this. "Exactly. We also don't wanna give the Dazzlings a chance to absorb any amount of magic from you girls. So, that means, No petty arguments between Any of you."
"Alright Sugarcube we won't." Applejack said as the rest of the Rainbooms nodded in agreement.
"Good, because I think I went through enough broken friendships to last a lifetime, and I don't want to go through that again." He said giving Rainbow Dash a meaningful look.
Rainbow caught the look and Immediately understood what he meant. "Don't worry Miko. That's not happening again." She said with a nod. "I won't let it..." She whispered the latter part to herself, the memory of her and Miko falling out three years ago still fresh in her mind.
However due to his enhanced senses he heard her last words and smiled slightly. 'And neither will I.' he mentally promised.
He breathed before speaking again. "Do you girls remember what we agreed on? if something or somebody appears and threatens our home and the people we care about?"
Sunset and The Rainbooms nodded. "We face it...together." Rainbow Dash quoted Miko's words four months prior, her expression earnest.
"And If we lose..." Applejack trailed off, looking at each of them.
"Then we'll do that together too." Fluttershy finished in a moment of rare assertiveness that surprised everyone.
Miko nodded firmly. "Exactly. As long as we stand together, there is nothing we can't handle." He said in a firm tone, his gaze sweeping over the group.
Twilight was surprised by this as she's just now realizing how much Miko had changed since she's been gone.
When they first met he was aloof, a little cold even. And despite his reluctance to help her, he still did. And over time, she had seen the warmth beneath the surface. His joking and teasing had become familiar and comforting.
His desire to do the right thing and protect his friends had always been there, but now it was more pronounced.
She could see Miko was becoming something more.
A true and honest friend, a protector, a hero.
A Leader.
Twilight couldn't help but feel pride swell in her chest as she watched Miko rally their friends. His growth since she had last seen him was remarkable. The way he took charge and offered comfort to Sunset was unlike the Miko she had met near the wondercolt statue.
"Twilight?" Pinkie Pie broke her train of thought as she looked over at the pink party girl. "Sorry Pinkie, what did you say?"
"I was asking what instrument do you want to play?" Pinkie asked before she zoomed off and came back with a musical triangle.
"Triangle?" She shakes it to make it jangle a bit, before she zoomed off again before returning with a sousaphone.
"Sousaphone?" She lets out a foghorn blast in that instrument that blows Twilight's hair back, before she zips away again and comes back with a theremin.
"Theremin?" She demonstrates its otherworldly tone by running her hands over the top and side antenna attachments, and by the look on her face it was obvious she enjoyed it. "So magical~"
"I might take a little too long to learn how to play something with these." Twilight said, gesturing to her hands.
"Hands." Miko corrected with amusement.
Twilight gave him a dirty look before rolling her eyes playfully. "Whatever, I'll just sing."
Rainbow Dash then walks over and rests an elbow on Twilight's shoulder. "Like, as in, lead singer? Cuz that's usually my gig. This being my band and all."
'And there goes her ego again...' Miko thought to himself with a sweatdrop at her statement.
"It's our band." Applejack corrected annoyed with Rainbow's ego, before she pulled Twilight to her as Rainbow Dash crossed her arms. "And, of course, Twilight will be the lead singer. She's the one with the magical know-how to help us pull this thing off"
"Okay, yeah, that's cool." Rainbow conceded before she smirked, "I'll just use this as a chance to hone my already insanely good lead guitar skills." She said while air guitaring with her hands.
Twilight smiled sheepishly at her before turning to the others. "It's only temporary. And we don't have to win the Battle of the Bands. We just have to perform during the first round of the competition."
"Let's get to learning that musical counter-spell!" Rainbow said with a determined grin.
"Well that's just it. I don't know any." Twilight admitted sheepishly.
"Aww..." The others' enthusiasm evaporates in less time than it takes them to voice a collective, dejected sigh, but Twilight gives her best reassuring smile as she shrugs her shoulders. "But I'm sure I could figure out how to write one."
"Totally! Twilight can write a spell like it's nobody's business." Spike said, walking up to her and patting her leg. "That's pretty much how she got to become a princess in Equestria." He continued to boast sitting on his haunches and crossing his arms over his chest.
"Technically, I helped finish a spell." Twilight corrected him. "And there was a little more to it than that, Spike." She said with her hands on her hips.
"Yeah, whatever." Spike said, waving his paw dismissively.
Miko had his hand on his chin in thought. "Guys, maybe we should pitch in and help Twilight. You know, with the lyrics and rhythm, just to be sure the counter-spell actually works like a song." He suggested looking around at everyone.
"Good Idea, I've made counter spells before but a musical one is going to be tricky." Twilight said, her mind already racing with ideas.
He nodded with a smile. "Well girls whaddya say?" He asked with a smirk.
Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and even Sunset Shimmer nodded eagerly. They were all in.
"Also... Twilight, maybe we should go all the way in the competition." Miko suggested rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "We'll have a better chance of reaching everyone if we make it to the final round. And it will also buy us some time to perfect the counter-spell."
Twilight nodded thoughtfully. "That's a good point, Miko. But we'll need to come up with something amazing to beat the Dazzlings."
"Right." They all agreed, determination sparkling in their eyes.
"Anyway, It's getting late." Miko said checking his phone, "Let's break for now and we can start practicing tomorrow after school."
Everyone nodded before Miko turned to Twilight. "Ready to go?"
Twilight nodded and picked up Spike before walking with Miko.
"Where're you goin?" Applejack asked her as the girls looked at them with curiosity.
"Oh, last time I was here Miko let's me spend the night at his place." Twilight explained with a smile.
Their eyes widened in surprise. "What?!" Sunset and Rainbow exclaimed simultaneously, jealousy and curiosity flickering in their expressions.
"I told Miko it was fine but he insisted." Twilight shrugged, oblivious to the two girls' reactions.
Miko turned to her. "May I remind you that you were planning to sleep in the Library before I did." He said with a teasing smirk to which she rolled her eyes playfully.
It was then that Pinkie perked up when an idea came to mind and gasped in excitement. "I just got an idea!" She exclaimed, getting everyone's attention before jumping onto Miko's back making him stumble a bit. "Slumber party at Miko's house!"
Miko blinked. "Wait, What?!"
Pinkie giggled, bouncing slightly on his back. "It's perfect! We can practice the counter-spell and have a slumber party!"
Now this is threw him for a loop. 'Wasn't she supposed to suggest a slumber party at her house?! Don't tell me...ugh...multiverse theory's a bitch..." He thought to himself, deadpanning
"That's not a bad idea Pinkie," Applejack said with a smile, as the rest nodded in agreement.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute!" Miko set Pinkie down gently, holding his hands up to stop her. "I'm not sure that's such a good idea. I mean, don't you think it's weird seven girls are going to have a slumber party at a guy's house? Especially since said house is located on a cliff just outside of town?"
"Come on, dude we've never been to your house." Rainbow Dash said with a hopeful look.
Miko deadpanned at the rainbow haired girl. "You girls have seen my house, you were there just a couple of months ago."
"Yeah, but we only saw your kitchen and living room...after...you know..."Rainbow Dash tried to say without mentioning Black King.
He groaned before looking at Twilight with a defeated look. She just giggled at his plight.
"Fine..." He ruffled his hair with a sigh. "But only if you ask your families first." He said, looking at them besides Sunset.
The five girls all nodded before calling their respective family members, and to Miko's surprise, they all got permission without much fuss.
"Okay, you got permission, but you don't have any pajamas or extr-" "Already done!" He was cut off when Pinkie Pie pulled out the girls' respective bags with all their essentials from out of nowhere, tossing them to their rightful owners.
Miko's jaw dropped as he looked at Pinkie with bewilderment. "How did you...? When did you...?" He stopped himself, remembering that questioning Pinkie's crazy antics was a lost cause.
"You know what? I'm not even going to ask anymore, let's just go." He said walking towards the school parking lot with Twilight and the rest following closely behind.
"Come on Mik. It's going to be a blast!" Rainbow said, slinging an arm around his neck as they headed towards the parking lot.
Miko rolled his eyes, resigned to his fate. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I better not be wearing makeup or have nail polish when I wake up tomorrow..." He grumbled, shaking his head.
The girls just laughed at Miko's grumbling, as excitement filled the air as they walked to the parking lot.
