Hello everyone, I know I haven't touched this story or a lot of my others in a long time (bad habit I got I know), but a lot has happened. Finished college, got my degree, lost some friends, reconnected with others, usual things. That being said I want to try and finish this story as the next story I want to write I've been stewing on for a few years and want that to be my main focus (i.e not write 5 different stories at the same time.) That all being said, hope you guys enjoy.
Paris, France.
To say "its been a while" for his return to Paris would be an understatement. Peter had no intentions of returning to France after the whole Talon situation, yet circumstances and fate led him back to where it all began.
Following the note of Amélie, he ended up in a plaza area near the docks that would've led to her house had he taken a boat, but instead she opted to meet him on the mainland. He decided now would be the perfect time to catch up on the world he had missed out on for a year. Pulling out his phone revealed the first function of his new eye he discovered, which was a instant analysis mode that ran diagnostics on his phone, and showed every possible function that could be used.
"Ok that is pretty cool. And I imagine useful in the near future." Peter thought to himself. He proceeded to check the news and for the next 15 minutes was showered with information regarding the downfall of S.I.N's leadership, a power struggle within the Mishima Zaibatsu, and the official partnership of Overwatch and the Avengers as global heroes for the world powers. He also noticed a article talking about how Shadaloo had went underground shortly after Peter's own disappearance, and apparently Bison couldn't be tracked down even with all world powers combined.
"Hope I didn't keep you waiting long." Peter looked up to see Amélie dressed is the same suit she wore when they broke out of Stryker's prison, the black and red suit and boots with the white dress shirt. She also opted to not wear a visor.
"Well, now you can make it up to me by buying me a croissant." Peter joked. Amélie simply rolled her eyes as the two of them began to walk and talk.
"So...I see the world kinda went a little bit crazy with my involuntary vacation."
"I don't think "a little bit" really covers everything Parker." Peter turned to the assassin.
"Meaning?"
She sighed. "The group that you were with fell apart 2 days into your coma. The first to go was Juri, but I think it was to avoid being arrested by those Interpol agents."
"That would make sense."
Amélie nodded as she continued. "Wrench...he gave up on trying to fight that battle."
"Wait a minute." Peter stopped dead in his tracks at the news. "Wrench...the loud, crude , borderline crazy, demolitionist and anarchistic hacker, gave up?"
"Yeah..." Amélie said, with a slight pain in her voice Peter immediately noticed. He knew the two of them were polar opposites and wasn't expecting them to be best of friends, and wasn't conscious for the conversation she was talking about, but something told him that Wrench had some sort of effect on her.
"Amélie... what happened?" As soon as the question left his mouth, Peter saw some tears falling down her face.
"Wrench was, as much as you were, part of the reason I was able to find the strength to fight back against Talon. Even when I wanted to go after Moira, he was the one who told me she would be a waste. That, it didn't matter how much she tried to rebuild, she couldn't make a difference to the outcome." Amélie started to calm down a bit.
"For him to say he was done with trying to avenge you, I...I resented him."
Peter, despite knowing the capabilities of both Wrench and Amélie as his friends and people in general, knew in his heart Wrench had to have some deeper reasoning for giving up that easily, and he'd find out what it was. Just as soon as he could find him.
"Trust me Amélie, I've known Wrench since I was a teenager, I'll figure out what was going through his head...if I can find him..." Peter mumbled. Amélie seemed to calm down from his answer and seemed to be forming a small smile.
"Thank you Parker." Amélie wrapped her arms around Peter, holding him tightly. He returned the embrace and after a few seconds, the hug was broken up.
"So...how have-"
"Terribly." Amélie leaned over the railing, staring at the open ocean. Peter rested next to her, leaning on his side.
"I didn't even ask the question."
"And yet you were going to ask how me and Gérard have been. Correct?"
Peter simply chuckled. "Guess that was pretty obvious. Trouble in paradise?"
"Try trouble in secret organizations." Amélie turned to face Peter. "Gérard started going after Shadaloo, the same exact way he went after Talon."
"Let me guess, he needs saving."
Amélie sighed and looked away, trying her best to avoid looking at Peter. "Thats what I would say, if I knew if he was in trouble or not."
Amélie could see that when she looked back at Peter, he was lost in confusion. She opted to clarify what she exactly meant.
"After we went our separate ways, Gérard went back to help with the reformation of Overwatch. He asked me along, even Gabriel and that annoying Brit vouched for me-"
"But you declined it, didn't you?" Peter guessed. Amélie nodded.
"How would I fit in there? I helped kill half the people who aren't there anymore, I'm no hero. Even if I thought I could, look at me. Who would think I look like someone who could comfort someone?"
"Amélie...you're not that person anymore. You never were that person. Not truly."
"Sorry to tell you Peter, but you saying it doesn't make it true. But I appreciate you trying to make me feel better." Amélie responded. "So, how do you plan to go back after Shadaloo?"
"Same way I started it, with Wrench and Juri." Amélie looked a bit hurt when Peter gave his answer, but didn't bring how she felt personally into the situation.
"And how exactly do you plan to do that? Juri's been sporadic with her location. She'll be in one country for a day, another one for 3, and then be in 2 in one day. Wrench's completely off grid, no one can find him."
"No one except me." Peter responded. He noticed Amélie roll her eyes as he defended himself and his friend.
"Look Amélie, I've known Wrench for years ok? If he truly went off grid, it means one of two things."
"Which are?"
"He wants a new start, or he's working shit out. Either way, I know where to look for either case."
"And what about Juri? You just plan to walk back into her life and act like nothing happened?"
"Hell no." Amélie was slightly caught off guard with Peter's shift. "She knew about my parents being alive." He leaned back against the fence, looking out into the port.
"I need answers from her, and them. And right now, she's the only one I know who's keeping track of them."
"And how exactly do you know that?"
"I don't know. I just...do."
"You're an idiot for going through with this." Amélie said, shaking her head. She reached into her jacket and pulled out some miniature vials of her gas from her gauntlet and stuck them out to Peter.
"But I must be a bigger one for not going with you to help." Peter took the vials.
"Why aren't you coming?"
"After our little crusade against Talon, France has gotten more dangerous with remnants of the organization. Ominics, gangs, you name it. I've been keeping an eye on everything but I still fear its not enough."
"I can stay and help yo-"
"You have a world to save Parker, go and save it." Amélie turned her attention to the vials in Peter's hands. "Those are modified Venom vials. Instead of poisoning the people who breathe it in, they'll pass out."
"Thanks Amélie." Peter put the vials away as he began to walk off.
"Peter!" He turned around to the Assassin.
"Yeah?"
"Promise me that if you find Gérard, you'll save him."
Peter formed a smile on his face. "Have I ever said no to something like that?"
"I've never asked you anything like that."
Peter, feeling like he ruined the whole vibe of the conversation, simply rubbed his neck and nodded. "I'll protect him if I see him." He then proceeded to walk off, devising a way to figure out where everyone is. Luckily, he knew the right person.
Sombra's Hideout, Mexico. (3 days later.)
"Sombra, I know you're in there." Peter kept knocking on the door for 15 minutes, yet no response from Sombra could be heard. Fearing the worst, He climbed along the building until a opening in the roof was found. Dropping down he saw that Sombra's hideout was ransacked. Any and every piece of technology was either taken or destroyed.
Peter began to search through all of Sombra's belongings, hoping for some type of link or clue as to why her hideout was trashed. Amongst the rubble he found what looked like a recording of some type. However, due to the state of the building it seemed like it took some damage.
"Goddamnit." Peter muttered to himself. He looked around through the rubble to see if there was anything potentially salvageable. Going through some drawers, he found a seemingly untouched laptop. He took it and opened it at a nearby table to see a lock screen with Sombra and a young girl.
"Must be someone from Sombra's family. Maybe a sister?" Peter tries a few phrases that he thinks could relate to Sombra, but nothing works. The computer brings up the hint that the password is related to "Family"
"I'm not gonna be able to guess it at this rate." Peter said to himself sort of dejected. He picked up a sling bag from the ruins and put the laptop in the bag, along with the picture in hopes it might be useful later on. On his way out he heard a sound coming from what he assumed was the living room and headed towards it. The TV was left on and it was conventienly the News channel.
While Peter's spanish was a bit rusty, he could tell that the general gist was that there was reports of black moons popping up all over the world, and at a few locations the arrival was followed up with destruction in its wake. One of those locations was New York City.
"Damn...what the hell happened while I was out of the loop?" As it stood, Peter had limited options and little to no leads. Peter walked out of the room and felt something small underneath his shoe. He crouched down and say it was a old phone that belonged to Sombra. He took it and looked back at the TV.
"Guess I'm heading back home."
