Unseen Growth, Hidden Bonds

When Naruto and Natsumi's third teammate was introduced, the name was no surprise: Uchiha Sasuke, the last surviving member of the Uchiha clan. His reputation as a gifted prodigy had preceded him, and the villagers expected great things from him. But there was something about Sasuke that Naruto and Natsumi couldn't quite place.

Sasuke, quiet and distant, didn't seem to mind the attention he received—or the fact that his teammates were from the famous Uzumaki-Namikaze bloodline. However, he was completely unaware of the full extent of his teammates' skills. To Sasuke, Naruto and Natsumi were simply the younger generation of the Namikaze family, but nothing more than average genin in his eyes. After all, how could they be anything more? The whole village had ignored them for years, treating them like shadows, like they didn't matter.

But Sasuke had no idea how wrong he was.

Itachi had kept their strength hidden from him, keeping Sasuke in the dark about their true abilities. Itachi knew that if Sasuke learned the full scope of their power too soon, it might push him into a place of unnecessary competition or even resentment. It was best for Sasuke to discover it on his own—when the time was right.

The twins found Sasuke to be a complex person, driven by an inner turmoil they couldn't quite understand. Natsumi would often remark, "He's good, but he's not there yet," while Naruto simply shrugged, seeing him as another rival to overcome. But neither of them paid much attention to him, preferring to focus on their training and growing bond.

The Wave Mission would be the turning point—a trial by fire that would bring the twins face to face with not just their growing powers, but also the unspoken emotions between them.

As the mission to protect the bridge builder Tazuna began, everything felt routine at first. The team was dispatched to the small village to stop the rogue ninja Zabuza Momochi and his accomplice Haku. Itachi had kept the mission low-level, but when Zabuza's presence was confirmed, the intensity ramped up quickly.

On the night before the final confrontation with Zabuza, Naruto and Natsumi sat together on the edge of the bridge, gazing at the water below. The wind was cool, and the moonlight bathed the world in a quiet silver glow. Natsumi was deep in thought, her eyes distant.

"Do you ever think about…what we're doing here?" she asked softly, breaking the silence.

Naruto frowned, glancing over at her. "Of course I do. We're on a mission, Natsu. Gotta protect the bridge builder, stop the bad guys." He smirked, as if trying to downplay the seriousness of the situation. But there was an edge to his voice that wasn't there before.

"I know," she replied, her voice barely a whisper. "But I mean... more than that. I mean, what if... what if everything changes after this?"

Naruto looked at her, his eyes narrowing as he tried to understand what she was saying. "You're talking like this is the end."

Natsumi turned to him then, her eyes searching his face. "No, I mean, what if we're not just... siblings anymore? What if this—" She gestured between them, "—what if it's not just the bond of blood?"

The realization hit Naruto like a punch to the gut. His breath caught in his chest, his mind racing with the truth he had tried to ignore for so long. He had always felt a pull toward Natsumi, something that went deeper than just familial love. But the weight of those feelings—that—he had never acknowledged it. Until now.

His voice was hoarse when he spoke. "I... I don't know, Natsu. But I think... I think I feel the same way."

For a moment, there was only silence. They didn't know what to do with this new understanding between them—this unspoken truth that had been lying beneath the surface for years.

But before they could say anything more, Itachi's voice called out from behind them. "Time to get ready. This mission isn't over yet."

And just like that, the moment was broken, but the feeling remained. They couldn't ignore it now.

After the Wave Mission, Itachi took the opportunity to push his students even further. The twins were no longer just prodigies; they were quickly approaching the level of elite Jonin. Itachi had always known they were talented, but seeing their growth firsthand during the mission confirmed it. They were no longer just the quiet, neglected children—they were forces in their own right.

"You've both exceeded my expectations," Itachi remarked one evening as they returned from a mission, his cool gaze scanning the pair. "Your skills have reached a level I'd consider approaching Kage-level, though I would not test you against one just yet. But you're close."

Naruto grinned. "Sounds like we're doing something right."

Itachi's eyes narrowed slightly, the only indication of a smile on his face. "Don't let your pride cloud your judgment. You may be strong now, but there's always more to learn."

"Don't worry, Itachi-sensei," Natsumi said confidently, her eyes gleaming with determination. "We're just getting started."

Itachi only nodded, pleased with their confidence but knowing they still had much to learn.

While waiting for the Chunin Exams to start, Itachi assigned them several D-rank missions. These were designed to keep them sharp and maintain their cover as ordinary Genin. However, Naruto and Natsumi had grown far beyond the scope of these tasks.

Instead of completing these missions themselves, the twins used their Shadow Clones—one of their most powerful assets—to handle the grunt work. They would take on multiple D-rank missions at once, using their clones to gather information, run errands, or deal with low-level threats. The real work, however, was done in secret.

During their downtime, the twins would return to their training, refining their skills in Kenjutsu, Fuinjutsu, and various other techniques they had been perfecting over the years. Their clones would read through various scrolls and practice new techniques while the twins themselves would continue with more advanced training.

Even during these mundane missions, the twins were constantly working, pushing themselves to new heights, and keeping their true strength hidden from the rest of the village. After all, they still had a promise to keep: to rise above the expectations of everyone, to show them that they were more than the village had ever thought possible.

As the Chunin Exams loomed on the horizon, Naruto and Natsumi knew that their time was almost here. They had come a long way since those early days of neglect, and now it was time to prove that they were more than just the forgotten children of Konoha. They were destined for greatness.
