He spotted the familiar facade of Moe's Tavern and quickened his step. He opened the bar door and found Marge inside, sipping on a cola at the bar with Maggie in her carrier and Moe Szyslak, cleaning a mug.
"Marge! You're ok!" he went to his wife and picked her up to spin her around. She giggled as they spun, then pulled her husband close for a kiss. Moe put down his rag and pulled Homer a Duff beer. He slid it over. Homer took it gratefully, needing to replenish after such a journey.
"Hiya Homer."
"Hi Moe. How's business so far?"
"Slow. You haven't seen the other barflies, have you?"
"No."
"Oh ok. If ya see them send them my way. Some of them owe me money." Moe went back to cleaning his mug while Homer, Marge, and Maggie left the bar.
"So, what do you want to do, Marge?" Homer asked. "Wanna go home and snuggle before our kids show up?"
"You haven't seen Bart or Lisa?" Marge asked, concerned.
"…no, but they'll be fine. They're almost never in any actual trouble."
"Mmmm, I still think we should go look for them." Marge handed Homer Maggie's carrier and pulled out her MePhone. She checked an app. "I don't see their phones on the app. We better go back to the house and see if they're there."
"Right behind you, Marge." they quickly got into one of the gondolas parked outside the bar. "Carl's Dad's Cavern, please." Home told him. The Italian gondolier nodded and pushed off. He began singing an Italian song as he guided the boat:
"Serenata
Quasi a mezzanotte
Guardie e ladri che
Si fanno a botte"
They got off at the Carl's Dad Cavern and hiked to the road on the other side. They continued down the road to the Unemployment Office where they spotted someone going inside.
"I wonder who that was." Marge commented as they passed it.
"Maybe it was Kirk?"
"Hnm. Maybe. Look! " Marge said, pointing at a row of chain fencing, with tall oak trees bordering the inside. A tall yellow building was seen past the trees. "There's the elementary school! Let's go check to see if the kids are here.
"You think the kids would come here of all places?"
"Lisa might. She did say she had homework she was looking forward to turning in,"
"ugh. Ok, let's go."
They went around to the front yard of Springfield Elementary, spotting Willie raking the schoolyard.
"Good morning, Willie!" Marge greeted him as they walked up the walk. He stopped raking, straightening up.
"Good day, ma'am."
"Have you seen our daughter, Lisa?"
"Little lass with spiky hair and an orange dress?"
"Yes!"
"She was here an hour ago to drop off her homework. She's also the one to ask Skinner if the school would be opening up soon. He said yes and ordered me to get her in tip-top shape."
"How wonderful! I bet everyone is very excited to be back to work now." Marge said. Homer grimaced. Willie started.
"We were off work?!"
They leave Willie and go inside to Principal Skinner's office. They knock on the door and wait a moment.
The door is opened by a tall man in a dark blue suit and neat hair. "Mr. and Mrs. Simpson. Please, come in." he stepped aside to let them into the room. They glance around the office as they sat down and Principal Seymour Skinner returned to his chair behind his desk.
"How can I help you today?"
"Have you seen our children, Bart and Lisa? We were told that she might have come here to turn in some homework. "
""Yes, I have seen Lisa." Skinner sat back in his chair. "She was here about half an hour ago. She came into my office, asking if she could be allowed into her classroom to put her homework on Ms. Hoover's desk. I said no, as I didn't have the keys to the classrooms yet, and that the school would be reopening next Wednesday."
"So soon?!" Marge gasped. "This is rather sudden, isn't it?"
"The children have been out of school for months and we have state testing coming up in a few months."
"I see. And our son, Bart?"
"I haven't seen a hair of him."
"Ok, thank you." Marge said as they got up and left.
