ep 5 - All eyes on me

As Bonnie and Freddy walked out of the cafeteria, the laughter and teasing between them continued, but Bonnie began to notice something.

The further they went, the more heads turned. It wasn't the usual casual glances from students. No, these were full-on stares. Bonnie could feel the eyes on them, on him, as if the world had suddenly become a spotlight, and he was the star of an awkwardly public show.

Bonnie's steps slowed, and he suddenly felt the heat rush to his face again. His heart raced, and his palms grew clammy. Was this what it was like to have attention on you? Freddy, of course, didn't seem bothered at all.

He continued to joke, walking with exaggerated swagger as if he were in a personal victory parade. But Bonnie? He could practically feel the pressure mounting with every second.

"Hey, Freddy, uh… I think people are looking at us," Bonnie mumbled, his voice a little more self-conscious than usual.

Freddy, who had been dramatically miming a jump shot, paused mid-air and followed Bonnie's gaze. The hallway was filled with students, but there was an odd stillness in the air, like everyone had suddenly taken a collective interest in whatever they were doing.

"Oh, that?" Freddy said, a grin forming on his face as he shrugged nonchalantly. "Don't mind them, dude. They're probably just jealous of how much swagger we've got. It's all part of being this amazing." He gestured to himself and then Bonnie, like they were a dynamic duo taking over the world.

Bonnie shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting around at the students who were clearly watching them.

He caught a few of the girls whispering to each other, a couple of the jocks glancing over with raised brows, and even the quiet kids who usually kept to themselves were sneaking peeks. Bonnie couldn't even tell if they were impressed or just confused. Either way, the attention felt like a weight, pressing down on him in a way that was entirely too overwhelming.

"Yeah, but… what if they think I'm, like, a weirdo?" Bonnie muttered, more to himself than to Freddy. "I mean, I don't usually get this kind of attention. This whole thing is… weird."

Freddy gave Bonnie a playful shove. "Nah, man, you're just too cool for them to handle.

They're probably just wondering when the world will finally catch up to us." He winked and continued to stroll, oblivious to Bonnie's growing discomfort.

Bonnie hesitated, then hurried to catch up to Freddy, feeling a bit like a nervous wreck on the inside.

He wished he could feel as carefree as Freddy did, but the reality of being in the spotlight just didn't sit right with him. What if people thought they were just acting silly? What if this entire "basketball" thing turned out to be the most embarrassing moment of his life?

"Okay, okay, you're right," Bonnie said, straightening his shoulders. "But, uh… I'm still not used to all the eyes on us."

Freddy, sensing the slight dip in Bonnie's energy, turned back around with a more serious look. "Bonnie, trust me. Who cares what they think? You've got people who already see you for who you are.

They can stare all they want, but they don't know us like we know us, right?" He gave Bonnie a thumbs up, his smile returning to full force. "So what if they're watching? Let 'em watch! Let them see the dynamic duo in action."

Bonnie chuckled nervously, his anxiety easing a little at Freddy's words. "You really think people are impressed by us?"

Freddy turned to face Bonnie, his expression suddenly more sincere. "Absolutely.

You're a pro at keeping people guessing. They've probably never seen someone as quiet as you suddenly break out with the confidence to challenge me like that. I mean, look at you, you're rocking this whole vibe." He gestured to Bonnie's somewhat awkward but still strangely confident stance.

Bonnie's heart gave a small, almost imperceptible skip. He had to admit, there was something about Freddy's reassurance that was starting to calm his nerves. Maybe Freddy was right. Maybe it didn't matter if people were staring, if they were judging. The reality was that they didn't know him not really. And Bonnie wasn't about to let them decide who he was.

But still, the curious stares followed them as they continued through the hallways. At one point, Bonnie even caught a few people giggling behind their hands. He couldn't tell if it was because they were impressed, or just because they thought his and Freddy's antics were ridiculous. Either way, it made Bonnie self-conscious all over again.

"So, when's the big game, 'Hoop King'?" Freddy asked, raising an eyebrow and nudging Bonnie, oblivious to the lingering gazes.

Bonnie blinked. "The… game? Oh, uh, right. You wanna do this for real?" He glanced around again at the eyes on them, suddenly feeling the pressure. "I mean, sure, let' let's do it... after school or something. You know, when the crowds are gone."

Freddy laughed and slapped Bonnie on the back, his voice full of mock excitement. "Oh no, man, we gotta do this right now! Why wait? The world needs to see this."

Bonnie looked like he was about to pass out. "Right now? I can barely handle the fact that people are staring at us. You really want a crowd and to be out there in front of everybody?" His anxiety was already running at full speed.

But Freddy just grinned. "Oh, come on. You're 'Hoop King' now. You can't back out of this one. Besides," he added with a mischievous glint in his eyes, "you wouldn't want to be known as the guy who didn't take up the challenge, right?"

Bonnie let out an exaggerated sigh. "You're ridiculous, you know that?"

"But you love it," Freddy said with a wink. "Now come on, let's show the world who they're really dealing with."

Bonnie swallowed, forcing himself to take a deep breath. He wasn't sure about this. He wasn't sure about any of it. But if Freddy thought they could handle the attention, maybe he could, too. After all, wasn't that what Freddy was so good at? Owning it?

Bonnie squared his shoulders and finally gave in with a small nod. "Alright, alright. Let's do it. But if I embarrass myself, you're buying me a milkshake and a new hoodie. Deal?"

Freddy grinned wider. "Deal. Let's show 'em what we've got!"

And just like that, Bonnie realized the attention might not be so bad. Maybe, just maybe, he could handle it after all.
