"You're working at Starbucks, is that a good idea for Shads." Sonic asked. "Yes as he loves coffee plus Starbucks is our hangout so it's perfect and we need money." Maria replied to him. It was a few weeks later and Sonic noticed Shadow wasn't there as he was working at Starbucks which surprised him.
"You've got a piunt Maria, and even though he might be introverted he probably makes good coffee which means he'll get tips." Sonic told her making the female orange-furred hedgehog agree with that, that Shadow was great at making coffee which she knew about hoping no rude customers poked Shadow's quills emotionally which Maria got as some people in town were like that to Shadow but she helped him deal with them, that they weren't worth it to get upset.
"That's a good thing to help him with. You make him really happy you know." Sonic said. She nodded in rely as she was making lunch for her and Shadow which they'd have when Shadow got back seeing Sonic leaving hoping Shadow would be okay.
"I made a lot of tips today, despite some jerks being rude and trying to get me mad." Maria heard Shadow say. He was home after a long shift but putting the tips he'd made into a moneybank in the kitchen which Tom and Maddie had taught them, so they could buy what they needed making Maria smile, hugging him.
"That's great and glad you kept your cool." Maria told him as they were on the couch but she noticed Shadow was tired but calm which was good seeing him asleep guessing he'd worked hard kissing his head seeing a smile on his face in sleep. She wrapped her arms around him in a hug as Sonic hold her Shadow only accepted hugs from her which she got but happy she'd been reincarnated into one of them, a hedgehog but she could give Shadow love that he needed hearing him snort in sleep feeling calm. After waking up, they were having lunch but Maria noticed how calm Shadow was listening to him talk about his morning with working at Starbucks squeezing his paw gently.
"I missed you while working, but it helps us keep a roof over our heads"" Shadow said to her.
"Yep, you're doing a good job. We've got it good." Maria told him making him nod.
