Throughout the night, Alastor grappled with a myriad of feelings and emotions. While he diligently compiled the information he had collected, Lucifer's condition took an unforeseen turn as the king developed a fever during the night. With a sigh of frustration that was not entirely directed at Lucifer himself, Alastor paused his work to fetch a cold compress to place on the king's forehead. As he returned to his workspace, Alastor noticed that his shadow seemed to regard him with an expression of concern, which struck him as peculiar. Dismissing the idea of emotions, Alastor resumed his efforts, determined to complete everything before the dawn of the following day.
As dawn began to break, Alastor sat with dark bags under his eyes, a sense of satisfaction evident on his face. Before him lay the file that Lucifer would present at the heavenly courts. The king had briefly awoken and inquired why Alastor was still in his room. In response, the Radio Demon, feeling that he deserved a bit of amusement from the chaos that the king was causing, chose to respond with a touch of sarcasm.
"Well, your highness," Alastor began, his tone almost condescending, "If someone were to heed the advice given to him rather than succumbing to his own pride, I wouldn't have to tend to you as if you were the child you seem to portray yourself as. Just imagine, while I diligently worked on your trial, your condition somehow worsened in the middle of the night, and I found myself not only laboring on your case but also attending to your needs."
Lucifer could only stare at Alastor in astonishment, as it took a moment for his mind to process the unexpected attitude and sass emanating from the Radio Demon. Once his thoughts finally aligned, Lucifer found himself rolling his eyes, feeling the throb of a headache and the weight of a fever. While Alastor's comments were not entirely unfounded, Lucifer could not shake off the feeling of embarrassment regarding the choices he had made recently. Nonetheless, he appreciated that Alastor had taken the initiative to handle matters on his behalf while he recuperated. Casting a glance at the file resting on the table beside Alastor, the king smiled softly and murmured, "thank you."
Alastor was genuinely taken aback by the king's expression of gratitude for his assistance, turning his head sharply as a blush began to creep onto his features. His attention quickly shifted when he heard the sound of sheets rustling, catching sight of Lucifer trying to rise, still visibly affected by his fever. Realizing that Charlie would not let the situation rest if he allowed her father to make any further unwise decisions, Alastor hurried over to offer his help.
Lucifer felt a sense of gratitude towards Alastor as the king waved the demon off, reassuring him that he was perfectly fine and was merely heading to the bathroom to refresh himself before the angels disrupted his day. At that moment, Lucifer recalled that Charlie remained blissfully unaware of the events that were about to unfold. He glanced at Alastor for a brief moment, questioning how he would explain his absence to Charlie when he utilized the portal to heaven. The Radio Demon raised an eyebrow, seemingly pondering whether Lucifer's mind had completely faltered or if he was simply lacking in logical reasoning. A sigh escaped Alastor as he questioned Lucifer's intelligence, implying that he might be acting foolishly. Although the king was not amused by Alastor's sarcasm and was on the verge of reprimanding him, the Radio Demon clarified that he had already taken care of the situation. He had prepared a note indicating that Lucifer would be occupied with filing matters concerning the Overlords and Sins for the next few days at a confidential location, assuring that he would return as soon as possible.
Lucifer found himself nearly impressed, though he was also reminded that the demon was an Overlord who likely faced challenges of this nature on a regular basis. Resigned to the situation, Lucifer proceeded to the bathroom to refresh himself. Meanwhile, Alastor was heading toward the door of the king's chamber. Upon opening it, he informed Lucifer that he needed to begin preparing breakfast for the residents. He also mentioned that he would inform Charlie if he encountered her, as she might need an update on her father's condition. Lucifer could only nod in acknowledgment as Alastor exited the room.
Once he found himself alone in the room, Lucifer began to remove his clothing. Once he was bare, he stood before the mirror and observed the unhealthy flush of fever that afflicted him. He pondered the reason behind his persistent fatigue, despite having had ample rest. In all honesty, he questioned why he still felt as though he had been violently thrown against a building. Shaking his head, Lucifer commenced the task of grooming himself, washing his face even as the water turned warm upon contact with his skin, and brushing his teeth. He concluded that, given his rising anxiety, he would not be inclined to eat much, as the fear of a portal to Heaven could manifest at any moment that day. After giving himself a light smack on the face, Lucifer turned to exit the bathroom, but the world chose to be unkind, causing his vision to blur once again. Quickly grasping the bathroom counter, he steadied himself and took several calming breaths while softly repeating a mantra: "There is no point in letting anxiety win." Once the world ceased its spinning, Lucifer mustered the strength to rise once more and made his way out of the bathroom. Approaching his wardrobe, Lucifer retrieved his usual attire but abruptly halted, realizing that he might need to don something more regal when addressing Heaven; he ultimately decided that this adjustment was in his best interest.
Lucifer was in the midst of perfecting the final details of his outfit when a knock echoed through his room. Taking his time, he approached the door and opened it to reveal Alastor, who was holding a tray that likely contained his breakfast. Allowing the demon to enter, Alastor scrutinized Lucifer with a critical eye, as if assessing his overall well-being. Although the glance was fleeting, Alastor proceeded to the coffee table, where a neatly organized file lay, and gently nudged it with one of his many tentacles before setting the tray down.
Lucifer then joined him at the table, sinking into the plush cushions with a soft sigh of relief. The next moment, he noticed Alastor presenting a cup of tea to him. Grateful for the gesture, Lucifer accepted the cup and took a small sip. The warm liquid enveloped him in a comforting sensation as he turned his gaze toward Alastor, who was busy preparing a small plate before handing it to Lucifer. Afterward, Alastor settled down to enjoy his own breakfast, creating a tranquil atmosphere in the room.
The two individuals dined in silence, which was unusual for Lucifer, as he was no longer accustomed to having breakfast in his room, particularly in the presence of another person. This peculiarity prompted him to ponder Alastor's intentions in this situation. While Lucifer was lost in his thoughts, Alastor continued to eat quietly, placing a sausage into his mouth and chewing softly, even by cannibal standards. After swallowing, he turned his gaze to Lucifer, realizing that he needed to discuss the organization of the file to facilitate easier reading. Setting his plate aside, Alastor addressed Lucifer, prompting the small king to pause his own eating, as he had only consumed a modest muffin accompanied by some jam.
Lucifer remained silent as Alastor reviewed the file, lifting it from the table and flipping through the sections, which were conveniently tabbed for easy navigation. As Alastor pointed out each tab to Lucifer, the latter began to appreciate the effort that had gone into the file's preparation. This led him to question why Alastor had gone to such lengths; it seemed that the assistance provided had transcended the parameters of their 'Gentlemen's Bond,' hinting at a more profound motivation behind this endeavor. Overwhelmed by his thoughts, Lucifer inadvertently articulated his concerns, prompting Alastor to momentarily pause as he rested the file in his lap.
"Having narrowly escaped extermination, you enduring a trial imposed by those angels for reasons that seemed solely aimed at controlling you, and listening to the way they refer to you as if you are nothing more than expendable fodder, has ignited my anger and made this situation feel far too personal for my liking. Indeed, while I may have a controlling nature, I do possess a set of morals!" Alastor remarked.
"I mean, heaven has always operated in that manner. As I explained to Charlie prior to her departure for her trial, heaven is governed by numerous rules. While I am not entirely surprised by how things have unfolded, I cannot comprehend why they are attempting to place the blame on me. I suppose it is because I was the one who arranged the meeting for Charlie, even though I was not present at the time," Lucifer expressed, as Alastor meticulously closed the file and took a seat beside him.
"In any case, the plan is as follows: if we can persuade the snake to testify on our behalf, along with the compelling evidence from the testimonies of others, it should undoubtedly establish your innocence regarding the unfortunate demise of that fool, Adam. However, I am concerned about your well-being given your current condition. It is evident that you are fatigued," Alastor remarked, as Lucifer playfully nudged the demon, causing him to emit a brief screech while Lucifer chuckled.
"You're tired too you asshole, I fell from heaven, Bambi! I've endured far worse," Lucifer replied with a grin, just as he sensed a shift in the atmosphere around him and suddenly found himself falling into Alastor's grasp, attempting to push him down.
Alastor was taken by surprise when Lucifer suddenly collided with him, and he felt the unmistakable signs of a portal opening beneath them. In a moment of distress, with the file pressed firmly against his chest, Alastor wrapped his arms around Lucifer, concerned about the intense heat emanating from him. He feared that they were both falling, and if there was anything he could do to prevent a traumatic episode for his king, as dictated by their 'pact,' he was ready to absorb the impact of the fall. Meanwhile, Lucifer clung tightly to Alastor, burying his face in the taller man's chest as the sensation of falling overwhelmed him. However, just as suddenly as it began, the sensation ceased. Alastor found himself lying on his back, observing as the portal closed behind Lucifer, revealing a sky filled with soft, yellow pastel clouds. As he shifted his gaze, he realized they were positioned just outside the gates of Heaven, with Lucifer still atop him, motionless. Carefully, Alastor began to lift himself while ensuring he did not disturb Lucifer, and he glanced down to see Lucifer starting to regain consciousness, the golden flush that had settled after their modest breakfast reappearing across his cheeks.
Grunting in discomfort, Lucifer propped himself up as his eyes locked onto Alastor's. Aware that he was encroaching on the other's personal space, he attempted to rise quickly; however, due to his illness, he collapsed back down just as swiftly. Noticing that Lucifer was on the verge of either panicking or fainting, Alastor instinctively seized Lucifer's hand and placed it against his own chest, urging the king to breathe in unison with him. Confused by Alastor's willingness to offer such comfort, Lucifer complied and soon realized that he had nearly succumbed to a panic attack. Expressing his gratitude to the sinner for his assistance, Alastor scoffed and began to survey the surroundings, questioning why he had been dragged into this situation. Observing Alastor's distracted demeanor, Lucifer gradually rose to his feet and instructed him to retrieve the file and follow him. With a nod, Alastor set aside his pride and complied with his king's directive, trailing behind Lucifer towards the podium where Saint Peter was seated.
Lucifer approached the podium to address Peter, explaining that Sera had summoned him for a trial. Initially, the angel intended to contest Lucifer's presence, as he was prohibited from entering heaven. However, this intention shifted when Lucifer observed Sera descending and warmly greeting him.
"It has been quite a while since you have stood here, Samuel. May I ask why you have brought a sinner with you?" Sera inquired, her tone reflecting a noticeable change.
"This is Alastor; he is employed at my daughter's hotel and serves as my witness for my testimony," Lucifer responded. Sera nodded in acknowledgment and proceeded to explain that they would be traveling directly to the location of the trial, as the citizens of heaven might feel uncomfortable with Lucifer's presence. Lucifer consented to this arrangement.
The two demons and the angel traversed through yet another portal; this time, it was not situated beneath Lucifer and Alastor. As they stepped through, Alastor suddenly experienced a wave of nausea, his stomach churning due to the overwhelming amount of light flooding the halls they entered, which was overpowering his shadow magic. Sera turned to both Lucifer and Alastor, informing them that while they were visiting, their powers had been effectively sealed. Although Alastor was unable to utilize his shadow magic, both of them retained the ability to transform into their demonic forms, albeit at a significant cost. The two men nodded in understanding as Sera guided them toward a designated room.
"The council is currently on their way; please wait here," Sera instructed before turning to leave, prompting Alastor to interject.
"May I inquire if Sir Pentious will be present for this trial? He is another witness to the events that transpired at the hotel," Alastor asked, to which Sera paused for a moment to consider his request.
"He will indeed be in attendance. If you plan to use his testimony, I will ensure he is allowed to take the stand," Sera replied, prompting Alastor to bow politely and nod in gratitude.
As the angel departed, Lucifer cast a glance at Alastor, expressing his gratitude for ensuring that events unfolded as intended. Alastor acknowledged this with a nod while surveying the king's parlor. Lucifer appeared genuinely unwell; the overexertion of his powers, combined with the current seal placed upon them, rendered him looking weak and sickly. Sensing a responsibility to look after him for Charlie's sake, Alastor urged Lucifer to take a seat in one of the chairs, genuinely concerned that the man might faint. Even Alastor himself was not feeling much better; with his shadows restrained, he felt an unsettling emptiness within.
The two individuals sat in a heavy silence, with Lucifer resting his head in his hands while the small angel leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. In contrast, Alastor remained seated, his eyes closed as he immersed himself in deep contemplation about his strategy for the board known as 'the trial'. With the assurance that Pentious would be present in the stands, the situation seemed increasingly favorable for the two demons. Nevertheless, Alastor was troubled by the uncertainty surrounding heaven's actions, which appeared to be aligning with their interests. He wondered if the angels were orchestrating a trap that would ultimately lead to their downfall, leaving them exposed and foolish. The multitude of variables and unanswered questions weighed heavily on him as he observed Lucifer grappling with whatever inner turmoil was afflicting him at that moment. Before long, Sera returned, prompting Lucifer to lift his head as she instructed the two to follow her to the courtroom.
Alastor and Lucifer were escorted into a grand chamber adorned with an array of light and pastel shades of blue and gold. The room featured multiple tiers of seating, each level occupied by angels of higher ranks. Near the apex, Alastor surmised that Lucifer's celestial siblings had taken their places, leaving one prominent throne conspicuously vacant. As Lucifer maintained his gaze fixed on the floor, Alastor became aware that he had somehow conjured his top hat, a reasonable action considering the intensity of his fever had escalated significantly and was most likely trying to hide the fact. Sera guided them to their designated seats, and in that moment, Alastor's eyes met those of Sir Pentious, who soon settled beside them, expressing his delight at seeing them in good health and his readiness to testify regarding the hotel and its operations. Alastor nodded in gratitude toward the serpent, while Lucifer also offered a smile of appreciation for his support. The atmosphere shifted dramatically when the sound of a gavel resonated through the room, plunging it into silence as Sera moved to the center.
"Esteemed members of the heavenly court, we are gathered here for the trial of the individual known as Samuel Morningstar…" Sera began, only to be interrupted by Lucifer.
"It is Lucifer now, Sera. The name Samuel ceased to exist when I was cast out; please address me as such," Lucifer requested politely, to which the angel acquiesced with a nod.
"Lucifer Morningstar, you stand accused of the death of Adam, the first man. Kindly rise to the defendant's podium and present your plea before the court," Sera instructed, prompting both Lucifer and Alastor to rise and approach the podium.
"We plead not guilty," Lucifer declared in a commanding voice that resonated throughout the room, eliciting expressions of genuine surprise from several of the angels seated in the upper tiers.
Suddenly, Lute, one of the exorcist angels who had attacked the hotel, stepped forward and positioned herself at the plaintiff's podium. She began to lay the groundwork for her testimony, starting from the moment they entered Hell and initiated the battle at the hotel. Lute recounted how the sinners rose against them, detailing her confrontation with the traitor Vaggie and expressing her belief that Lucifer entered the conflict and killed Adam right before her eyes.
Alastor could only gaze in utter disbelief, unable to comprehend how this angel could approach the trial without any evidence to support her claims, naively assuming she could win such a significant case based solely on her words alone. Her approach rendered all of his previous efforts a waste in comparison. Lucifer winced as Lute recounted her version of events in court, swiftly identifying the discrepancies in her narrative as soon as the words left her lips. He exchanged glances with Alastor, who nodded in response, while Sir Pentious observed the interaction between the king and the Radio Demon with a raised eyebrow, questioning the implications. Alastor shook his head, leaning back in his seat as he awaited their turn to present their case.
As Lute concluded her testimony, complete with fabricated tears and vehement curses directed at the demons present, proclaiming that they should be engulfed in holy fire, Lucifer let out a sigh, shaking his head in disbelief at the absurdity that seemed to have infiltrated heaven. Alastor maintained a neutral expression, his smile tightly restrained, keeping in mind his own advice he once said to Charlie: "a smile is a valuable tool, it inspires your friends, keeps your enemies guessing, and ensures that no matter what comes your way, you are the one in control." Sera nodded in acknowledgment as Lute instructed her to relinquish her stance. However, before Lucifer could articulate his thoughts, a voice emanated from the apex, causing him to immediately freeze in place.
"Sera, what is the meaning of this? Exterminations? I never authorized the use of physical force in addressing matters related to hell; you must clarify your actions!" the angel declared, prompting Sera to freeze as she realized that the higher-ranking archangels were largely unaware of her dealings within Lucifer's realm.
Taking a few deep breaths to compose himself, Lucifer directed his gaze toward the angel at the apex. The voice that had spoken belonged to his twin, Michael. Recognizing that this was not the appropriate moment for such discussions, as he preferred to return to the hotel, he gestured to Alastor, instructing him to approach the podium and present the evidence. Alastor nodded in understanding and proceeded to the defendant's podium to begin his address.
Clearing his throat, Alastor introduced himself, stating, "My name is Alastor, and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am one of the reigning Overlords of Hell. May I present our testimony?" Sera appeared almost relieved by this interruption, while Michael took a seat, visibly irritated. Gabriel, the angel seated beside him, attempted to soothe his frustrations and nodded towards the lower part of the court.
"Now then, prior to this court session, I took the initiative to gather several individuals who were involved to testify in favor of our king. I would like to begin with the following points," Alastor continued, detailing the strategic measures he and the residents had taken during the conflict, including his deployment of a magical shield designed to delay the angels' advance. He clarified that he was the first to confront Adam, not Lucifer, a statement that sparked murmurs among the audience. Alastor elaborated on Adam's careless and sloppy fighting style, despite sustaining injuries himself by the end of the encounter. He recounted his own withdrawal from the battle, asserting that Lucifer was not present on the battlefield when the conflict commenced.
As he concluded his statements, the Radio Demon summoned his staff, initially startling the angels, who braced for an attack. However, as Rosie's voice resonated throughout the room, the angels calmed down, attentively absorbing the unfolding narrative. Meanwhile, Lucifer, determined to maintain his composure, was grappling with a severe headache, fever, and a depletion of powers, consequences of his own mistakes and foolishness. He felt a sense of gratitude that Alastor had fallen into the portal alongside him; truthfully, had he been alone, the fallen angel would likely have succumbed to anxiety, especially with his siblings present, potentially leading him to a fate of even greater punishment.
As Rosie's testimony progressed, she asserted that Lucifer did not make an appearance until the hotel building collapsed; in her view, he was hardly involved in the fight at all. When the recording of Rosie ceased, Sir Pentious slithered over to Alastor, who was positioned at the podium. He introduced himself and began recounting the events that unfolded when the group became aware of Alastor's absence, leading them to assume the worst. The snake acknowledged this moment as his final selfless act and expressed his feelings for 'Miss Cherri Bomb.' He detailed how he ascended onto his war machine, only to be shot down from the sky by Adam, ultimately finding himself face to face with Sera and Emily, another seraphim. Alastor attentively listened to Pentious, feeling appreciative that he had stepped in to share his account, once again emphasizing that Lucifer was not present on the battlefield when Pentious experienced his second demise.
At this stage, Lute was seething with anger. As the Demons elaborated on their perspective, she was taken aback to learn that they had gathered information and testimonies prior to their arrival. Her desire for the sinners to be defeated stemmed from a deep yearning for retribution for Adam's demise. Meanwhile, the angels present in the stands, including the archangels, began to ponder whether Lucifer had any involvement in the unfolding events. However, Alastor's staff proceeded to play Husk's testimony, which bore a striking resemblance to Rosie's account, until the part where the hotel unexpectedly collapsed. Husk recounted that Adam had been forcefully thrown to the ground while Lucifer soared above him, gripping Charlie at one point and then flying down as he delivered several powerful blows, including a notable left hook, before Charlie intervened and halted the assault. The atmosphere in the room grew tense as everyone listened intently to Husk's revelation that it was, in fact, the hotel's maid who had inflicted the fatal stab wound on Adam, becoming overly enthusiastic in her duties. He also recounted witnessing another angelic woman rushing to Adam's side before he succumbed, while Lucifer politely urged the angels to "Go Home, Please."
As the final voice began to resonate, Lute felt an overwhelming urge to scream upon hearing Vaggie's voice. From his position, Alastor could clearly perceive the intense fury radiating from the angel. He reveled in the chaos of the moment, particularly enjoying the fact that the angel was entirely unaware of their meticulous preparations to confront an angelic court, which filled him with delight. His gaze then shifted to Lucifer, and it took him a moment to fully comprehend the situation; the King of Hell appeared to be in a dire state. Alastor noticed that Lucifer was perspiring profusely, a clear indication of fever, and his eyes appeared glassy even from this distance. Determined not to exhibit any sign of weakness at this critical juncture, Alastor maintained his smile and continued to press forward, just as he and Lucifer had agreed upon.
Vaggie voice detailed her confrontation with Lute, recounting how the angel had slain Charlie's dragon bodyguard she was riding. She described the ensuing battle within the hotel, which ultimately led her to the rooftop. There, she recounted the moment when Lucifer intervened after Adam threatened Charlie's life, during which she also sustained physical injuries from cuts and abrasions. The angels in the audience began to murmur among themselves in astonishment, and even Sera, who had been listening intently, recognized that there had been no violation of the contract. The fact that Lute had killed a Hellborn, even if it was merely a dragon bodyguard, justified Lucifer's intervention; as the King of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar was entitled to act because an exorcist had breached the treaty. The remainder of Vaggie's account was consistent with the assertions made by the second voice in the staff, leading the angels to concur that everything presented by this Alastor character, to the council, was indeed truthful.
Alastor bowed gracefully, as if he were performing, before descending from the podium and returning to Lucifer's side. In reality, he felt a deep sense of anxiety. This was neither his domain nor his area of expertise, yet he managed to make the trial appear deceptively simple. Nevertheless, his attention was now solely on the king, and with the sensation of the blood pact burning beneath his skin, Alastor found himself at a loss for how to assist Lucifer, who was deteriorating faster than expected. Meanwhile, Sir Pentious approached moments later, sensing something was amiss as he observed Lucifer's condition. Alastor instructed the fool to remain silent and not to disrupt this critical moment, as he listened to Pentious settle back into his seat while Sera returned to the center to deliver an important statement.
"The council will now decide whether Lucifer Morningstar is innocent or guilty. Please stand if you believe he is innocent, and remain seated if you believe he is guilty," Sera announced, as the angels began to shift within the stands.
Alastor could only observe as the angels began to rise in support of Lucifer's innocence, including the archangels who held the highest positions within the celestial hierarchy. While a few remained seated, the overwhelming majority of angels stood in solidarity. Alastor exhaled slowly, a breath he had not realized he was holding, as did Pentious, who nervously fidgeted with his hands. At that moment, Lucifer leaned against Alastor, prompting Alastor to quietly endeavor to shield the king from any potential threats.
Gradually, Sera turned her attention toward their small assembly from the center of the floor and spoke again, "The angelic court has reached a decision: Lucifer Morningstar has been found innocent of the death of the first man, Adam. Furthermore, he has also been excused from the breach of treaty, as it was executed by angelic hands. For the time being, the exterminations are suspended until a new treaty can be formulated..." However, she was abruptly interrupted by Lute.
"You cannot be serious! These wretched sinners! You intend to take their word, which could be filled with deceit and falsehoods? Sinners forfeited their chance at heaven when they made the choices that led them to fall into hell!" Lute shouted vehemently, just as Michael, the archangel, descended to the court floor and drew his blade pointing it at her throat, effectively silencing Lute mid-rant. "Lute, you will soon be required to provide an explanation to me. Until someone comes to fetch you, you are to return to your quarters. We need to have a thorough discussion regarding the events that have transpired while Sera was in charge," he stated before shifting his attention to Sera.
"Sera, I must express my disappointment in your actions. Your responsibility was to safeguard heaven, and I had anticipated that you would make decisions that would benefit our realm. However, I am only now discovering that you authorized annual exterminations in hell without my consent! I will address this matter with you privately later," Michael remarked as Sera cast her eyes downward in response as Michael put away his blade.
At that moment, Michael turned his focus to Alastor, Sir Pentious, and Lucifer. Just as he was about to approach them, a wave of fear washed over him as he witnessed Alastor swiftly catching Lucifer, who had collapsed, his hat rolling away revealing a deep gold blush coloring his cheeks and face. This prompted Michael to rush toward them. However, as he drew near, Alastor's eyes suddenly transformed to pitch black with radio dials, emitting a low growl as a warning not to approach any closer, clearly protective of Lucifer. Michael stopped in his tracks, realizing that the sinner had every reason to be cautious; Lucifer must have confided in Alastor about his past and was merely fulfilling what had been requested of him. Yet, upon observing Lucifer's expression, Michael understood that he needed to take action. Quickly, he called out to his brothers for assistance, indicating that something was amiss with Lucifer. Fortunately, amidst the turmoil of the situation, the room remained largely empty, as most of the angels had already departed.
Upon recognizing the urgent situation at hand, the angels who had been seated at the pinnacle during the trial began to descend in response to Michael's call. Gabriel was the first to arrive, quickly perceiving the unfolding events. However, he became momentarily paralyzed when he noticed Alastor growling in a menacing warning. Following Gabriel, Uriel, Azrael, Raphael, and Cassiel all soared in and beheld the source of the disturbance. Most of the angels found themselves immobilized, uncertain about the cause of Lucifer's distress. Yet, Raphael, demonstrating remarkable courage, cautiously approached the growling Radio Demon.
"Please understand, we do not wish to harm Samuel. Our only desire is to ascertain what is troubling him, but we cannot achieve that unless you permit us to investigate. Would you allow me to assist?" Raphael inquired, capturing Alastor's attention for a fleeting moment before the demon's eyes gradually reverted to their crimson hue.
"I can grant you permission, but be forewarned that I am bound by a blood pact; should you inflict any harm upon him, I will not hesitate to rend you limb from limb, even with my own powers sealed," Alastor warned in a chillingly calm tone, not fully comprehending the intensity of his protective instincts.
"That is all I could possibly ask for. May I approach you more closely?" Raphael requested, and Alastor shifted just enough to provide Raphael with the space necessary to proceed.
Raphael crouched down to examine Lucifer more closely, noticing with alarm the intense heat emanating from the fallen angel. As he lifted his hand, he channeled angelic light into his fingertips, using this energy to scan Lucifer's body in an attempt to identify the source of the fever. It was at this moment that Raphael realized, just as Alastor had indicated, that Lucifer's powers were also sealed. Ceasing the flow of magic, Raphael swiftly turned to Sera, who remained in the room, visibly stunned by Lucifer's pallor.
"You must unseal his powers, Sera; he does not pose a threat here. Lucifer's magic is not flowing properly, which is draining his life essence," Raphael urged, as Sera instinctively brought her arms close to her chest, shaking her head in resistance.
"I would, but…" she began, her eyes shifting to Alastor, "If I unseal Lucifer, I also unseal that demon," she concluded, prompting Raphael to direct his gaze toward Alastor, who continued to hold the angel gently.
Raphael locked eyes with Alastor, and in that moment, time seemed to freeze as they engaged in a silent exchange of understanding. With a resolute expression on his face, Raphael shifted his attention back to his brothers, who observed in silence, before seeking guidance from Michael. Michael met Raphael's gaze, recognizing the urgent plea for agreement that was being communicated without words, and then his eyes moved to Alastor. Despite the demon's menacing remarks, Michael sensed an underlying bond between Alastor and Lucifer, feeling the essence of the blood pact simmering between them, almost tangible in the air. With a subtle nod of understanding, Raphael turned to Sera and instructed her to release the seal on their magic. Sera, feeling uneasy and on the verge of arguing for the safety of heaven, was abruptly interrupted by Michael.
"Sera, if Lucifer were to perish here due to the affliction that is affecting him, the repercussions for heaven would be even more severe. Should you wish to prevent the sins from encroaching upon heaven's gates, it is imperative that you heed Raphael's unspoken request. Keep in mind that you are not in a position of control at this moment, as we still need to engage in a discussion regarding the boundaries you have crossed during God's absence," Michael stated, prompting Sera to surrender, and lift the seal that had been placed upon both Lucifer and Alastor.
The effect was nearly immediate; the gasp that escaped Lucifer's lips as his magic coursed through his body caused him to tremble in Alastor's embrace. Conversely, Alastor experienced a surge of his shadow powers as his minion, despite being weakened by the heavenly light, attempted to anchor Alastor. The minion sensed the demon's anxiety, which only served to irritate the Radio Demon further. Meanwhile, Raphael once again permitted the angelic light to make contact with his hand as he carefully examined Lucifer's body, striving to ascertain the cause of the fallen angel's distress.
As the golden light began to fade, Raphael let out a sigh of relief, feeling grateful that Lucifer was largely out of danger, although it was still necessary to address the consequences of the overexertion that the fallen angel was experiencing. Rising from the ground, Raphael smiled and instructed Alastor to also stand and carry Lucifer, as he intended to take them back to a room so that Lucifer could rest. Sir Pentious, who had been observing the entire situation unfold, finally spoke up, requesting to be excused, as his overwhelming anxiety was becoming difficult to manage, and he preferred to avoid having a meltdown in front of the Radio Demon of all individuals. Michael turned to the serpent and, with a nod of appreciation, granted Pentious his request, allowing him to leave the room. However, just before fully exiting, Pentious turned to Alastor and asked if he could have a conversation with him later, as he had a particular request to discuss. Alastor, now standing and holding Lucifer closely against his chest, glanced over at Pentious and nodded silently, unable to trust his voice in that moment.
The other angels, Gabriel, Uriel, Azrael, and Cassiel, paused for a moment before politely excusing themselves and gradually exiting the room. Azrael, however, took a moment to glance at Alastor before departing, assuring him that they would return shortly to check on Raphael and Michael, hoping to receive updates regarding Lucifer's condition. Meanwhile, the two angels nodded in acknowledgment as they guided Alastor out of the room, carefully carrying the unconscious king.
The three men proceeded down the hallway from the courtroom, enveloped in silence. Michael, who had never forged a positive relationship with sinners or demons during his past encounters, felt a palpable discomfort in the presence of Alastor. Nevertheless, he recognized that Alastor must command a certain level of respect, as evidenced by Lucifer permitting him to be in such close proximity. Upon reaching the room, Raphael opened the door for Alastor, allowing the deer demon to enter and gently place Lucifer onto the bed. As Alastor stepped back, Michael and Raphael observed the shadowy figure they had encountered when Alastor's magical seal was broken. This figure swiftly pulled the covers over Lucifer's body while Alastor nonchalantly removed his coat, revealing his tail without concern for the two angels' scrutiny. Through a series of intricate hand gestures, Alastor began issuing commands to the shadow companion, which hurried to the nearby washroom to fetch a bowl of cool water and search for some cloth rags. Meanwhile, Alastor rolled up his sleeves, exposing his scarred arms and hands, and commenced the familiar routine he had performed with the king the previous day before their sudden transportation to heaven.
Michael remained motionless as he observed the sinner tending to his brother's comfort. The shadowy figure glided into the room, carrying a small bin filled with cool water and rags. Alastor swiftly accepted the items from the shadow creature, expressing his gratitude before immediately wetting one of the rags. Meanwhile, the shadow moved to loosen Lucifer's necktie and unbutton the top few buttons of his shirt. Just as Raphael was about to scold Alastor for being indecent with his sibling, Alastor gently began to dab the damp cloth around Lucifer's neck, gradually working his way up to his face. He finally placed a cloth across Lucifer's forehead, covering his eyes. Leaning back, Alastor exhaled the breath he had been holding as the searing sensation of the blood pact began to subside. He then allowed himself to summon a chair and settled down beside the bed.
The atmosphere in the room was marked by an unsettling silence as Alastor began to find a sense of relaxation. He was acutely aware, however, that he had not yet escaped danger entirely; the presence of the two angels triggered his instinctual responses, compelling him to either confront the threat, remain still, or flee. Despite this instinctual turmoil, he was resolute in his decision not to abandon Lucifer, especially given the emotional turmoil that this situation evoked within him—feelings that he struggled to articulate. Since arriving in heaven, Alastor found himself experiencing genuine concern for the other, a rare occurrence for him, as he had typically refrained from forming deep connections with those around him. Most individuals in his vicinity were merely acquaintances; the exception to this was Rosie. To Alastor, Rosie embodied a maternal figure, and although he had come to terms with never seeing his own mother again, the affection he held for Rosie was distinct from the emotions he was grappling with in this moment for Lucifer.
"I must inquire about the terms of your blood pact. It is my understanding that individuals who have sinned do not typically go out of their way to exhibit the level of compassion you have demonstrated in our presence while still being considered sinners. Therefore, it raises the question: either your transgressions are far more severe than one might anticipate, or there has been a genuine misunderstanding regarding your place in the afterlife, and perhaps you ought to be in heaven," Michael articulated, prompting Alastor to emit a brief chuckle before directing his attention towards the two angels.
"Believe me when I say, I have earned my place in hell; I have made it my stage, and it shall be where I remain, for it is where I continue to find my entertainment. There is no punishment more fitting for a serial killer such as myself! Regarding your inquiry, I cannot disclose all the details, but it does specify that should Lucifer choose to disregard sound advice or succumb to his own weaknesses, I am permitted to deliver a figurative 'ass kicking,' if you will," Alastor explained, eliciting an intrigued expression from Raphael.
"That is utterly ridiculous; why would my brother permit you to confront him?" Raphael interjected, as Alastor shifted his gaze back to the slumbering Lucifer.
"While I would relish the opportunity to engage him in combat, I am acutely aware of my limitations, as Adam has demonstrated with an angelic injury to my chest as a consequence of my previous attempts. No, what I seek at this juncture is to continue our playful exchanges, stirring one another, and witnessing him act foolishly provides the finest form of entertainment I could hope for at the hotel. However, I must admit, I also appreciate the quieter moments we have shared, where our respective eternal punishments seem to dissipate, if only temporarily," Alastor confessed, suddenly realizing he had divulged more than he typically would, prompting him to cast an accusatory glance at the two angels present.
"Are you perhaps feeling conflicted, sinner? Why are you so eager to discuss emotions and sentiments that you typically conceal within these four walls? The angelic magic woven into this building ensures that you cannot hide anything from us during your stay; all of your feelings and emotions are laid bare for us to observe," Michael remarked, a sly smirk creeping onto his face.
"This capability was a primary reason we were able to discern whether you were speaking truthfully or deceitfully during the court proceedings. This aspect of angelic magic permeates all of heaven, not merely this structure. One might say, 'Thou shalt not lie,'" Raphael added, stifling a chuckle behind his hand.
"Of course, how foolish of me to overlook the lessons I learned in Sunday School as a child," Alastor retorted sarcastically, connecting the dots regarding the game he was currently engaged in.
"Well, Alastor, it has been a pleasure making your acquaintance, and I appreciate your care for our brother. Please feel free to remain here for as long as you require; we will check in on both of you shortly. Additionally, should you need anything, do not hesitate to ring the bell by the door. Unfortunately, we cannot allow you to wander the halls, as that would inevitably result in chaos for the winner's here," Raphael said once more as he and Michael made their way to the door, allowing themselves to exit and leaving Alastor alone with his shadow, a sleeping Lucifer, and his thoughts.
In the hallway, Michael and Raphael walked side by side on their way to their respective offices. Michael was preparing to conduct a thorough interrogation of Sera regarding the events that had transpired while the archangels were not present. He also intended to confront Lute and the other exorcists about the situation. In contrast, Raphael was focused on conducting personal research into the character of Alastor. He was intrigued not only by the reasons behind Alastor's descent into hell but also by the proximity he seemed to have with Lucifer. As Raphael approached his office, they noticed Azrael standing nearby, a folder tucked securely under his arm. Upon spotting the two angels, Azrael stepped away from the wall to greet them.
"May I venture to guess that you were planning to investigate this Alastor individual?" Azrael inquired, while Raphael chuckled in response.
"Have you managed to get ahead of me on this one?" Raphael remarked as Azrael presented him with a folder.
"Keep in mind that my role involves handling souls after they pass away. I guide them to their rightful destinations, as I am the Grim Reaper. I can share this much: aside from his activities as a serial killer, he was genuinely a person who cherished his mother who is here in heaven and did everything possible for her while she was alive. He harbored a deep-seated hatred for his father, which ultimately led Alastor to his first murder and his decent, a consequence of the abuse his mother endured. Additionally, he worked as a radio host and possessed a significant set of morals when it came to selecting his victims. However, he also exhibited the traits of a ravenous cannibal which not surprising since the guy lived during the Great Depression. He also displays sadistic tendencies as well as masochism, and was fixated on asserting dominance through a power complex aka, killing other overlords in hell to climb his way to the top of the food chain. This behavior is not particularly surprising among sinners in my experience, which raises the question of why Lucifer has chosen to keep him around," Azrael explained, leaving the other two angels in a state of astonishment.
"It certainly provokes thought," Michael responded, placing a hand on Raphael's shoulder, signaling him to monitor the situation with Lucifer and Alastor while he proceeded to his own office. Raphael sighed, expressing gratitude to Azrael for the insights but indicating that he could manage the remainder from that point onward, suggesting he would summon Gabriel if necessary. The dark-haired angel merely nodded as he began to depart, allowing the atmosphere to settle for the time being.
After what felt like hours, Lucifer finally opened his eyes to find himself enveloped in darkness. It took him a moment to realize that a cool cloth was resting on his forehead. With great effort, he raised a hand to remove it, only to discover that he was in a softly colored blue pastel room, lying on a bed. The last memory that lingered in his mind was of being present at a court hearing, before the overwhelming heat caused him to lose consciousness. As he turned his gaze to the side, he caught sight of a flash of red and gradually made out the figure of Alastor, who was peacefully resting in a chair beside him. To Lucifer, Alastor appeared strikingly beautiful in his slumber; his hair was lightly tousled, his smile seemed less forced, and he radiated a sense of genuine relaxation, even in a situation that made Lucifer's skin crawl. As Lucifer propped himself up, he noticed Alastor's shadow watching him intently, chirping softly in an attempt not to disturb its master.
Despite the shadow's tendency to be quite silent, Alastor possessed exceptional hearing. He gradually opened his eyes upon realizing that Lucifer was sitting up and gazing at him softly. In an effort to collect his thoughts, Alastor slowly sat upright as well, meeting Lucifer's gaze before retrieving the cloth that the king had removed and placing it back into the bin of water.
"How are you feeling, your majesty?" Alastor inquired, to which Lucifer looked down at his lap and replied that he felt fine, subsequently asking where they were.
"To keep you informed," Alastor continued, "We won the case. Heaven has acknowledged that it was the exorcists who violated the treaty, following the numerous testimonies we provided. The exterminations are currently on hold until you choose to meet with someone to establish a new contract, should you feel inclined to do so. However, sire, you fainted due to the seal that was placed on us because Sera was compelled to undo the seal on our powers, which exacerbated your already weakened condition. Therefore, we were brought back to this room to recuperate."
Lucifer could do nothing but sit in astonishment as he processed the realization that they had triumphed in their case. A small smile gradually formed on his face, and despite his efforts to suppress them, tears began to flow down his cheeks, a manifestation of the profound relief that enveloped him. Charlie would be safe, and Hell would remain secure; he could return to the hotel and govern Hell without further complications, provided the angels left him in peace. He would not have to endure any more punishment, as the trauma from his previous fall had already inflicted enough mental anguish. Meanwhile, Alastor, a lost soul, observed as his king unexpectedly succumbed to a wave of tears. Unsure of how to respond, he tentatively reached out to Lucifer and slowly embraced him, bewildered by this display of vulnerability; the Radio Demon was not meant to exhibit compassion. Yet, as he listened to the sound of Lucifer's weeping, he sensed the centuries of suffering emanating from him—an experience both surreal and incomprehensible. In that moment, Alastor drew Lucifer closer, reminiscent of a time long past when he would cradle his mother in her illness, seeking solace. Shaking his head, Alastor looked down at the tears soaking into his shirt, but they no longer troubled him; he chose to allow his majesty the space to grieve.
Some time later, Lucifer distanced himself from Alastor and used a cloth offered by Alastor's shadow to wipe his eyes. After expressing his gratitude to the shadow, Lucifer began to tidy himself up, leaving Alastor utterly perplexed by the sudden change in his own demeanor. Observing the discomfort of the Radio Demon, Lucifer felt it necessary to address the situation.
"I apologize; I became overwhelmed with relief. It has been a torment to feel the weight of unseen eyes watching my every move for centuries since my fall from Heaven. My concerns about this case stemmed from my worries regarding Charlie. With the protections against Hellborns lifted, the angels could have potentially targeted any of the seven rings, including both the royals and the sins... I was unable to voice my concerns before the trial," Lucifer explained, but Alastor interrupted him with a raised finger.
"Do not say anything further; you are clearly exhausted and should take the time to rest. I will remain on guard," Alastor replied, to which Lucifer nodded in agreement. He then nestled back under the covers, turning to gaze at Alastor.
"I want to express my gratitude for everything you are doing. I do not have much trust in sinners, as you are aware of my views on them... However, since we forged this pact, I am truly thankful for all you have done for both Charlie and myself. I hope to reciprocate your kindness; please tell me if you ever need anything," Lucifer spoke gently, while Alastor averted his gaze to his shadow who offhandedly was pointing at it's own neck, and reluctant to make eye contact with Lucifer as he found himself overwhelmed by emotions once again.
As Lucifer drifted into another peaceful slumber, a knock resonated at the door of the room. Alastor rose from his chair and approached the door to open it. Upon opening the door, he was greeted once again by Raphael, who stood before him. With the poise of a gracious host, Alastor stepped aside without uttering a word, allowing the archangel to enter and observe Lucifer sleeping serenely. While Alastor closed the door behind them, he moved towards Raphael, who took his place in the chair beside the bed and began to employ his angelic magic once more. The Radio Demons could only watch in helplessness as the angel waved his hand over Lucifer; however, when a satisfied smile appeared on Raphael's face, Alastor deduced that his efforts had likely accomplished something beneficial.
"His temperature has decreased; I am relieved to see that he appears to be feeling better," Raphael said softly, making an effort not to disturb Lucifer, who evidently needed the rest.
"I am happy to assist, but it seems you must have more purpose here than merely a check-up," Alastor replied, maintaining a vigilant demeanor and wary of falling victim to the allure of heavenly magic once again.
"Indeed, you are quite right. I am also here to inquire about you, if that is permissible," Raphael said, raising an eyebrow as Alastor summoned another chair and took a seat.
"Thank you. As you may have surmised, we have conducted an investigation into your character, your history, and your activities in Hell. I must say, I am impressed by your efforts and determination. It is evident how you excelled as a Radio Host during your life. It was also quite clever of you to enlist the police to report on a string of murders, particularly those involving your own victims...However, I must ask, what is your purpose at this hotel? It is clear that you are not seeking redemption, and given your history, it seems unlikely that you would ever atone for the multitude of sins you have committed. This raises an important question: what is your true motive?" Raphael inquired, his tone dark as Alastor met his gaze, feeling a flicker of fear that he did not reveal.
"As I mentioned to Charlie, my presence there is for the entertainment... the world is a stage, and that stage is a realm of entertainment," Alastor remarked, eliciting a scoff from Raphael.
"You cannot deceive me, sinner! I am aware of the leash you are under; you were sent to the hotel to undermine everyone's progress! My question to you is: who is behind this, or are you prohibited from sharing that information?" Raphael pressed once more as Alastor's eyes momentarily reflected the appearance of a radio dial, accompanied by the manifestation of a deep purple leash.
"I am surprised that you angels are even familiar with the concept of soul deals. However, as you have said, this is a matter I cannot disclose. Regarding my motive, you could say that my plans have shifted," Alastor responded, for once allowing the influence of heavenly magic to guide his emotions, as long as Lucifer remained asleep; he was content with the notion of never returning to this place.
"When I first encountered Charlotte, I expected her to resemble Lilith in personality based on my limited interactions with that woman. I anticipated the same from Charlie... imagine my astonishment when the charming demon belle turned out to be the complete opposite of what I had envisioned!" Alastor laughed, summoning his staff once again before continuing.
Raphael found himself perplexed by the Radio Demon's decision to summon his staff. However, as he focused his attention, he suddenly perceived a female voice emanating from the staff. The voice was gentle, and Raphael deduced that it must belong to Charlie, Lucifer's daughter that he discovered during his research into Alastor. As he continued to listen, he discerned a recurring theme: the young woman appeared to lack self-esteem for a princess. These recordings seemed to have been made prior to Adam's attack on the hotel. From an outsider's perspective, the extent of self-deprecation evident in her words following her own trial was quite astonishing. Just as the voice began to flow smoothly, Alastor's staff abruptly halted the recording, prompting Raphael to turn his gaze back to Alastor once more.
Alastor stated, "If you wish to comprehend the events that have transpired over the past few years, you must inquire with the individual who is lying in that bed. There exists a deeper connection between Lilith and Lucifer than what is publicly acknowledged. Until you grasp this, you will not uncover my true motives." Raphael sighed, sensing that he was unlikely to make any progress with the sinner.
Recognizing that it would be smart to cease their conversation at this moment, particularly because Raphael was aware of Alastor's heightened vigilance and his efforts to resist the enchantment of the room, the angel paused to cast another glance at Lucifer. In all honesty, Raphael found himself yearning for Lucifer's company, akin to the feelings held by Michael, Gabriel, and even Azrael, who expressed his emotions in an unconventional manner. It seemed that if they could manage to share even a brief moment together, it would be most beneficial for all involved. At this juncture, the siblings were all cognizant of another issue: if they wished to spend time with Lucifer at that moment, it was likely that the angels would also need to become acquainted with Alastor. Although this interrogation did not yield significant results, it did reveal to Raphael that, despite Alastor's distorted demeanor and values, he genuinely cared about Lucifer and the other residents of the so-called hotel. Raphael could only hope that Michael would gather more information from Sera and Lute. With this reflection in mind, Raphael bid farewell, allowing Lucifer to find solace in rest while entrusting Alastor with the task of vigilance once again.
Michael, at this moment, found himself in his office, standing by the window. Seated in front of his desk were Sera, the head seraphim, and Lute, the exorcist who had inadvertently led them into this predicament. Michael had just concluded his own interrogation, and the revelations he uncovered were far from satisfactory. Sera informed Michael that she believed Lucifer was instigating an uprising, rallying sinners to revolt against Heaven. However, upon reviewing all the information currently available to Heaven, there was no evidence to support her claim. The last confirmed sighting of Lucifer within the embassy occurred approximately two hundred years ago, during a meeting that Sera and Adam had attended. Heaven had expressed their discomfort regarding the notion of a rebellion which Lucifer denied was even happening, and Lucifer, in an effort to safeguard his family and the hellborn inhabitants of his realm, had consented to a contract. This agreement permitted the annual extermination of sinners within the Pride Ring. It stipulated that no members of the royal family, no sins, nor hellborn from any rings were to be harmed or killed; all executions were to be confined to the Pride Ring. While there were other political considerations on both sides, Michael was primarily focused on these three key points. Taking a deep breath, he turned to face the two women in his office, grappling with how to articulate his frustration and fury when a knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. Sera and Lute froze in trepidation as Michael instructed the person outside to enter. The door opened slowly, revealing Gabriel, who was holding a file as he stepped into the room. As Gabriel passed Sera, he bowed in greeting to Michael before placing the file on the desk in front of Sera. Michael, intrigued by the contents of the folder, was distracted when Gabriel began to address Sera.
"Are you aware of the contents of this file?" Gabriel inquired, his gaze fixed on Sera as she examined the file and opened it. Upon seeing its contents, her complexion turned pale dramatically.
"As you are aware, I serve as the messenger of God, tasked with delivering messages between heaven and hell, particularly concerning specific matters. Therefore, I must ask you, Sera, why has this folder, which holds numerous messages from hell, never graced my desk?" Gabriel snapped, his fist striking the desktop with such force that it caused everything in the room to tremble momentarily.
Michael, taken aback by the situation, swiftly took the folder from Sera's hands and began to peruse its contents. The folder contained countless messages from Lucifer, including notes about Charlie informing the angels that they had become uncles and aunts. Among the recent notes were those detailing Charlie's request to speak with the archangels regarding her redemption project, which appeared to be a desperate plea. As Michael continued to skim through the extensive contents, he realized there were likely hundreds of years' worth of letters and missives. When he glanced at Sera, he noticed a look of guilt on her face.
"What is the meaning of this?" Michael finally inquired, prompting Gabriel to take a moment to regain his composure.
As the two archangels worked to regain their composure, a serene presence began to permeate the room. Initially subtle, this presence soon intensified, enveloping the space in a radiant light, and before the four individuals, God materialized.
"Father! You have returned!" Gabriel exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement, while Michael immediately lowered himself in a gesture of reverence. Sera and Lute remained motionless in their seats, captivated as God addressed his two sons.
"Indeed, I have returned," God replied softly, "I sensed a disturbance and recognized that it was time for me to awaken from my slumber. Now, please tell me, what have my children been engaged in?" Gabriel found himself momentarily speechless, resembling a fish out of water, until Michael stepped forward to guide his father aside, preparing to inform him of the current events.
As God listened to Michael recount the details surrounding the trial concerning Adam's death, the presence of Lucifer in heaven, the investigation into the sinner who follows Lucifer, and the inquiries into the exterminations that had been occurring for the past two hundred years without any knowledge from the archangels, he could only express his discontent through a frown. His disappointment was palpable, yet the most prominent thought occupying his mind was the return of his 'Dreamer' to heaven, who was now suffering from an illness. In an effort to maintain his composure, he turned towards the head seraphim and gently placed his hand upon her forehead. With his eyes closed, he began to delve into her memories. Sera found herself paralyzed with fear as the secrets she had guarded so closely were on the verge of being revealed; the weight of the potential charges against her was overwhelming, and the mere thought of facing a trial akin to Lucifer's sent her into a spiral of dread. However, just as God began his exploration, he abruptly withdrew his hand.
The expression that now adorned God's face was one of unrestrained fury as he gazed down at Sera and Lute, both of whom were paralyzed by fear. Closing all four of his eyes, God inhaled deeply before directing his attention toward Michael, requesting that he remove the two women from his presence and confine them for the time being, as another trial was necessary due to what he had uncovered. Michael nodded in understanding and instructed the women to stand, leading all three of them out the door, thereby leaving Gabriel and God to engage in their conversation.
"I sincerely apologize, Father; I was completely unaware of these events, and neither were our other siblings. We appointed Sera as the head Seraphim without recognizing the corruption she had instigated," Gabriel expressed, feeling the weight of the moment as God placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"It is perfectly fine, my son. However, I have heard Michael mention that our dreamer is currently in Heaven, recuperating in a room. Would you be able to take me to him?" God replied, as Gabriel averted his gaze momentarily.
"I would, Father, but there is a sinner accompanying him in that room. Raphael was planning to speak with him to discern whether he is genuinely malevolent or if it is safe to be in his presence," Gabriel explained just as the door opened to reveal Raphael.
"I apologize for the interruption; I had assumed Michael would be here," Raphael said as he entered, the door closing behind him, and approached God with a respectful demeanor.
"I trust your investigation yielded some useful insights?" Gabriel inquired, observing Raphael let out a weary sigh.
"I must confess, Lucifer certainly has a knack for choosing individuals; this sinner is indeed dark. However, I sensed a deep-seated care within him for Lucifer that is blossoming. He has endured considerable pain and hardship. He presents a strong exterior, yet beneath it lies a vulnerability that he conceals from inquisitive eyes. For the time being, we can place our trust in him, and perhaps the two of them could positively influence one another in the future," Raphael remarked, eliciting surprise from Gabriel.
"Really? How could a murderous, cannibalistic serial killer possibly be a good influence on our brother?" Gabriel exclaimed, while God watched his sons with a fond expression.
"It's about his control… he did not choose to become a cannibal by mere whim. Have you ever heard of skinwalkers?" Raphael queried, to which Gabriel shook his head in the negative. "There are ancient legends of creatures in the earthly realm that when a man is starved and resorting to cannibalism, the spirit of a skin crawler, more commonly known as a Wendigo, can sometimes take possession of the body. The sinner in the other room is indeed a possible Wendigo, given the circumstances of his death and the location being were they are usually spotted. However, the sinner remains oblivious to this possible fact. This is likely why the sinner has assumed the form of a deer, as most Wendigos take on that shape," Raphael explained, surprising Gabriel and raising an eyebrow.
"So, this sinner is a Wendigo. That is unexpected. I assume what you mean by control is that he has not fully transformed upon death. I guess that explains Azrael's keen interest in him," Gabriel commented, just as the door opened once again to reveal Michael returning.
"It's good to see you are well, Raphael. Did your investigation bear any fruit?" Michael asked, noticing Raphael's weary demeanor.
"You know, if you had shown up during the conversation the first time, I wouldn't have to keep repeating myself," Raphael chided, while the others chuckled at his misfortune.
As the three brothers engaged in conversation, God experienced a profound sense of tranquility. Nevertheless, his primary concern was for his Dreamer; he reflected on the times when Lucifer had still been in Heaven, before he tainted humanity with the gift of free will. God had endured many years of heartbreak, which was one of the reasons he had distanced himself for a period. Yet, the prospect of returning due to a disturbance and discovering that his son had come back, even if only temporarily, was more than he could have hoped for. Before he could request an escort to the room where his Dreamer lay sleeping, Raphael advised him to allow the sinner some time to recuperate. Raphael noted that even with Alastor's powers unsealed, a frightened Wendigo could be perilous. Michael nodded in agreement and then turned to his father, offering an apology similar to that of Gabriel. God could only chuckle softly as he embraced his son, then invited the others to take a seat. If he could not visit his Dreamer just yet, he would occupy himself by sharing his findings from Sera's memories and discussing the necessity of organizing another trial.
Back in the room, Alastor diligently attended to Lucifer as the final remnants of the fever gradually exited his system. Despite the angel's peaceful slumber, the Radio Demon remained alert, listening intently for any whimpers that might indicate nightmares troubling the king, all the while gently running his fingers through Lucifer's hair. While the task was undoubtedly tedious, and Alastor would have preferred to engage in any other activity rather than care for the ailing monarch, his confinement in Heaven and isolation to a single room left him with limited options. This feeling of frustration was compounded by the unsettling line of questioning Raphael had subjected him to earlier, which lingered uncomfortably in his mind as he focused on Lucifer. Alastor had anticipated that the angels would scrutinize him, but he had not expected such thorough investigation. There were numerous aspects of his life that he wished to keep concealed from both the hotel and Lucifer, particularly the critical issue of his "leash" situation. In Hell, only a select few individuals, whom he either trusted or who had stumbled upon the truth, like Husker, were aware of this. He had cleverly fabricated a story about taking a well-deserved sabbatical to keep his adversaries guessing. With a sigh, Alastor paused, reflecting on where he might have gone astray in the grand scheme of things. The longer he remained confined in the room, the more he felt his personal thoughts and emotions beginning to overwhelm him. Just as this realization crossed his mind, Lucifer opened his eyes, meeting Alastor's gaze as he leaned over him, causing a blush to spread across Lucifer's face and prompting Alastor to withdraw and sit down once more.
"Are you feeling any better?" Alastor inquired, his trust in his own thoughts wavering after the challenging day he had experienced.
"Um, yes… were you petting me?" Lucifer responded, causing Alastor to momentarily freeze and avert his gaze.
"I apologize; it was out of character for me to assume you would enjoy such gestures," Alastor said, only to be interrupted by Lucifer.
"Actually, it was quite pleasant… thank you," Lucifer remarked, his face flushing even deeper.
"Well, you are welcome, sire. Are you able to stand? We should make our way back to Hell swiftly to avoid causing Charlotte any additional worry, which she likely already has," Alastor stated as Lucifer nodded, pulling the blankets aside and rising to his feet.
Alastor felt a sense of relief that the king was recovering, as he made the chair he had previously occupied vanish with a snap of his fingers. Meanwhile, Lucifer took a moment to survey the room, realizing that this was his old chamber from ages past, which almost brought him to tears. However, he quickly dismissed the thought; he was determined not to allow himself to become attached again, only to face the pain of loss. Adjusting his coat, he turned to Alastor, and the two made their way to the wall where Alastor reached out to ring a bell. Lucifer was initially puzzled, but his confusion dissipated when the door swung open to reveal Michael standing before them.
"Lucifer is more or less recovered, and we would like to return to Hell if you don't mind," Alastor stated, clearly expressing his impatience with the current situation.
"It is good to see that you are all right; we were all quite worried for a while, brother. Before you leave, would you both like something to eat?" Michael inquired, while Alastor struggled to conceal his growing irritation. Lucifer glanced at Alastor first, then down at the ground, before finally meeting Michael's gaze again.
"Unfortunately, angels typically do not have anything that caters to a cannibal's palate, so you are leaving Al to starve. We appreciate the offer, but we really must be on our way," Lucifer replied, observing Michael's expression shift to one of disappointment.
"I insist, brother; it has been far too long, and there is someone who has requested to see you before you depart. Can you at least consider giving them a chance?" Michael urged, causing Lucifer to recoil slightly in surprise. However, he soon felt a supportive hand on his back, realizing it was Alastor encouraging him.
"Al, what do you wish to do?" Lucifer asked, directing his gaze intently toward the Radio Demon, allowing him to make the final decision.
Alastor stood, gazing into Lucifer's eyes, where he could perceive the deep-seated longing within them. However, more profoundly, the Radio Demon sensed an underlying dread—the fear of being harmed by those whom the angel once considered family. Alastor acknowledged that the angels must have felt a sense of guilt regarding the treatment Lucifer had endured; their scrutiny of his character served as evidence of this. Yet, this led the Radio Demon to ponder the true intentions behind the angels' desire to reconcile with Lucifer. Was there perhaps a concealed agenda, or even a trap? He contemplated whether he would be willing to share the consequences with Lucifer if this meeting were to take a disastrous turn. It was at that moment he was reminded of the Blood Pact still in effect, and Alastor cursed his misfortune. He realized that if Lucifer willed it, he would be compelled to act, for if the king became an emotional wreck, it would fall upon him to rectify the situation. Shifting his hand from Lucifer's back to behind his own, Alastor lowered himself to meet Lucifer at eye level.
"While I have significant regrets about the events that transpired today, should you wish to share a meal with your siblings, I will not intervene. However, should I be left to deal with the consequences, I will be invoking my share of the blood pact, you do understand?" Alastor remarked, prompting Lucifer to respond with a soft smile, chuckling at the irony of Alastor's words, as if Alastor had not been upholding his end of the blood pact throughout the entire journey and prior to it.
"Absolutely, I can accept those terms... I won't even inform Charlie if that eases your mind," Lucifer replied, leaving Michael bewildered as he attempted to decipher the underlying implications.
"Goodness, you would allow me that much freedom? I am quite impressed; usually, you try to curtail my enjoyment. Why grant me this liberty now?" Alastor inquired, relishing the light-hearted exchange, with Michael's perplexed expression adding to his amusement.
"Because asshole, I know, you've been working tirelessly on my behalf, so don't test your luck; I could easily retract my offer," Lucifer retorted sharply, his grin fitting for the devil, as Alastor playfully rolled his eyes.
"Forgive my interruption, but does that mean it's a yes?" Michael asked, utterly confused by the recent dialogue, and the look on his brother's face left him feeling oddly unsettled.
"I suppose we can make the time…We shall see this mysterious individual and have a meal, come on Al," Lucifer commented, turning to look at Michael who nodded and was leading Alastor and Lucifer to the location where they would be having lunch.
The walk was predominantly quiet, with Alastor not wanting to voice anything in fear of heavens magic making a fool of himself. In contrast, Lucifer found himself at a loss for words, unable to articulate his feelings regarding the entire situation from the trial to this point, it was obvious he was not comfortable. Eventually, the three arrived in front of a set of double doors, where Michael approached, pushed the doors open, and stepped aside to permit the two demons to enter. Lucifer adjusted his lapels once more and summoned his apple cane and hat once more, while Alastor conjured his microphone staff, and together they proceeded into the room. Upon their entrance, the archangels who had been waiting froze in mild astonishment at the sight of Lucifer, especially considering that the last time they had seen him, he appeared gravely ill. However, one figure in the room caused Lucifer's heart to nearly freeze with panic: God, his father, occupied the head seat, seemingly having returned. When their gazes met, God rose and approached his son, enveloping him in a tight embrace. Alastor, observing this emotional exchange, felt a twinge of surprise at witnessing such a moment, yet his primary focus remained on Lucifer, the blood pact simmered beneath his skin once more. As God released him, Lucifer could only stare in utter disbelief, glancing at Alastor to seek confirmation of his sanity was still intact in the midst of this extraordinary encounter.
"I am present here, my dear dreamer; this is not merely an illusion," God reassured as he held his son's hands, redirecting Lucifer's attention from Alastor back to his father.
"Uh, yeah...The last information I received from Sera indicated that you had left and entrusted my siblings with leadership," Lucifer remarked, to which God nodded, guiding the devil to a seat near the head of the table.
"You are indeed correct; I did leave. However, I sensed a disturbance that indicated it was time for my return," God explained as he seated Lucifer and shifted his gaze toward the sinner present in the room.
"You must be Alastor. I have heard of you, sinner, primarily concerning the actions that led to your current position in hell. Nevertheless, I have also learned that you have been caring for my little dreamer since your arrival, and for that, I wish to express my gratitude," God stated, as Alastor listened intently, surprised to be addressed directly, and the Radio Demon nodded in acknowledgment.
Once Lucifer had taken his seat at the table, lunch was summoned for the group. Many conversations flowed around the table as Alastor stood off to the side not wanting to feel included in all of this, after all the food while it looked appealing to the normal pallet, it was not something he would partake in as a cannibal unless he wanted to feel his punishment of gluttony and take a hit to his own pride. However the conversation soon changed into something unexpected, one that he wasn't expecting Raphael to actually take his own advice on.
"Luci, could you share some insights about Charlie? I have heard about her endeavors to rehabilitate those who have strayed especially from Sir Pentious, and I am intrigued by what inspired her journey towards healing," inquired Raphael as Lucifer paused mid-bite, lowering his hand.
"Charlie is my daughter with Lilith; she is the pride and joy of my life, and I cherish her with all my heart," replied Lucifer with a fond expression, as the angels at the table listened with keen interest.
"I was under the impression that Lilith was unable to conceive due to the curse imposed upon her following her banishment from Eden," remarked Michael, causing Lucifer to blush deeply; even Alastor appeared momentarily perplexed, as this was information he was previously unaware of.
"Indeed, that is correct, but it is a topic I would prefer to avoid discussing at this moment," Lucifer replied softly, prompting Alastor to raise an eyebrow and step in, sensing Lucifer's discomfort.
"While I too am curious about how Charlotte came into existence, I can assure you that she is a truly remarkable demon belle, unique within the realm of Hell. With appropriate guidance, she possesses the potential to become an excellent leader; however, like any winner, sinner, or hellborn, she is not without her imperfections," Alastor stated, as Lucifer briefly looked irritated but quickly regained his composure, wishing to avoid any disruption in the presence of his father and siblings.
"I understand, and what specific flaws do you believe she possesses?" God questioned, prompting Alastor to glance at him and feel the magical pull once more, realizing too late that he had miscalculated.
"She tends to be naive and has a propensity to trust others too readily," Alastor responded, while Lucifer regarded the Radio Demon for a moment, acknowledging that he was not entirely incorrect, as God nodded from his seat.
"Ugh, it pains me to agree with you, Al. Charlie has always admired her mother for utilizing the influence of her songs to ensure the prosperity of Hell, and she possesses my former ability to dream. However, I find it astonishing to consider that she has actually succeeded, as I never believed it was achievable and lacked faith in her vision. I recognize my failures as a father, which weigh heavily on me amidst my many shortcomings," Lucifer expressed, seemingly unaware of why he was so freely sharing his thoughts and emotions in front of others.
The archangels and God remained silent, attentively listening to Lucifer as he spoke about his failings as a father. He expressed his feelings of absence in Charlie's life, lamenting that Lilith had taken Charlie away when he was just a child. As he continued, he pointed out that Lilith had vanished nearly eight years ago, leaving Charlie essentially alone during that time and him emotionally unavailable. Lucifer conveyed his sense of failure in maintaining order in Hell leading to the exterminations, while other issues were largely left to the Overlords, such as Alastor and the Sins. Each of of the archangels and even God experienced their own form of grief, recognizing that the being before them was still their sibling, brother, and son. Yet, there was a palpable sense that the fall had profoundly altered Samuel, who now identified himself as Lucifer.
Alastor, standing to the side, absorbed the unfolding scene and realized that even Lucifer could not resist the magical pull of Heaven. As Lucifer continued to divulge the burdens that had haunted him for years, he felt the weight of the blood pact etched beneath his skin, compelling him to seek comfort for himself while simultaneously wanting to ease Lucifer's suffering. He recognized the guilt that had plagued Lucifer was the same Alastor had felt during his early years in Hell. However, known for his penchant for entertainment and unexpected actions, Alastor stepped over besides Lucifer's seat, wrapping his arms around the king gently to avoid overwhelming the ruler as he continued to spill his emotions.
Despite this gesture, Lucifer, perhaps due to the overwhelming influence of the magic, continued to speak about the hotel and its residents, sharing how he was gradually becoming more comfortable with them and witnessing their transformations. To Alastor's dismay, Lucifer even mentioned how he felt a sense of ease around the Radio Demon. As the King's hand rested gently atop the hands that were holding him, it provided a grounding presence as Lucifer spiraled into his emotions, tears streaming down his cheeks.
As God observed the events transpiring, he began to comprehend the true weight of the burden that Lucifer carried. Just as Heaven could not exist without Hell, reflecting that Light cannot exist without Darkness, God realized that Lucifer recognized his error of granting humanity free will introducing darkness into the world. Lucifer understood what his punishment was for when he was banished from Heaven. In this moment of realization, God understood the necessity of his return, particularly as he witnessed Lucifer succumbing to the overwhelming force of Heaven's Magic. With a snap of his fingers, the immense pressure compelling Lucifer to speak abruptly ceased, and the force that had compelled Alastor to comfort his king against his will also receded. This allowed the demon to once again stand by Lucifer's side and cast a meaningful glance toward God.
"I must extend my sincerest apologies, my dreamer. A great deal has transpired on both sides. I have nullified the enchantment within this room, allowing you to breathe more freely, my son. Our intention was to gain a deeper understanding of you, yet it ultimately led to your increased suffering, which was never our aim. Nevertheless, we now possess further insights into the inquiries that have been on our minds," declared God as Lucifer took a napkin to dab his eyes, casting a glance at his father, while Alastor maintained an expression of indifference.
"We would like to express our apologies, brother. During your time of rest, we took the opportunity to question your friend, the sinner. However, he was hesitant to give us any clear or satisfactory answers concerning Charlie and the hotel," Michael explained, while Lucifer observed Alastor, who had a hand over his smile, seemingly amused. "His replies were quite evasive. Nevertheless, there is an important issue we need to discuss, if you are open to hearing it," Michael continued, as Lucifer redirected his attention to him, and Alastor glanced over, still chuckling softly to himself.
"Sera was entrusted with overseeing the interactions between Heaven and Hell. Although Gabriel serves as God's messenger, he occasionally becomes overwhelmed by his duties, which is why we designated Sera as an intermediary. However, it has come to our attention that during her responsibilities, she withheld numerous messages and information between the two realms, permitted the use of excessive force without anyone's knowledge, and has been implicated in exterminations... she is now facing trial along with Adam's Lieutenant, Lute. As a representative of Hell who has been equally affected by this situation, would you be willing to assist in this particular trial before your return to Hell?" Michael proposed, leaving Lucifer and Alastor in a state of astonishment.
"Wait, you mean to say you were unaware that the exterminations were taking place? They have been ongoing for over two hundred years! Since..." Lucifer questioned, struggling to comprehend the gravity of the situation.
"That is indeed the case. During our interrogation of Sera, she revealed the contract you both agreed upon along with its stipulations. Therefore, when we were summoned to the court and witnessed your entrance, we were completely in the dark regarding the true nature of the proceedings," Raphael explained, with Gabriel nodding in agreement.
Lucifer pressed his hand against his face, feeling utterly blindsided. Throughout all this time, he had resented his decision to consent to the exterminations in order to protect Charlie and his family, sacrificing everything and everyone to the blade out of fear of the threats posed by the angels regarding Charlie's potential identity as a nephalem. Now, with the revelation that the archangels were oblivious to the truth, he was left with a profound sense of nausea. In contrast, Alastor maintained a different perspective; the sinner was not at all surprised that Heaven had made such a monumental error. He understood that Heaven must have its own flaws and could not possibly be the flawless realm it professed to be. Taking a deep breath, Lucifer turned to Alastor, uncertain of his next steps, yet feeling an urgent need to rectify the situation for Charlie and secure a better future for the hotel.
"Al, I understand this is a significant request, but would you be willing to wait just a little bit longer? I want to ensure everything is in order for Charlie's benefit," Lucifer said, prompting Alastor to roll his eyes in immediate response before he replied.
"I don't believe I have much choice in this situation; I am merely a sinner, and you are our king. However, I do implore you to make them pay for what they have done, as the injury inflicted by that angel has caused great inconvenience for poor Charolette," Alastor smirked, while Lucifer glanced down at his plate of leftovers and chuckled softly.
"Oh, you poor bellhop, wounded in your pride and unable to accept responsibility for your own arrogance? Nonetheless, you do raise a valid point. I suppose I will have to clean up your mess once again, so I can grant you this request," Lucifer remarked, as the angels observed the exchange with keen interest, enjoying the playful banter between the two.
"Just remember, I am the one you come to when your feelings are hurt, sire; I can be quite sadistic at times," Alastor quipped, feeling his shirt being tugged until he was brought to eye level with Lucifer.
"Oh, I am well aware, and keep in mind that I am the only one who has the ability and will to bring you down a peg or two if you maintain that bratty demeanor," Lucifer replied, locking eyes with Alastor as the demon only smirked in retaliation.
"Certainly, my lord, I would not allow anyone else the pleasure of witnessing me in such a state," concluded Alastor.
God and the archangels observed with a mix of fascination and unease as they attempted to comprehend the complex dynamics between Lucifer and Alastor. One moment, the two were engaged in playful taunting, and the next, their interaction took on a flirtatious tone. This behavior was undeniably perplexing. As God observed them, he was transported back to ancient times when he had witnessed his son interacting with Lilith. The similarities were striking; however, the key distinction lay in the fact that Samuel had never retaliated against Lilith in the same manner. With this sinner, it seemed as though they were not merely exchanging banter but were actively challenging each other as if their exchanges constituted a game.
As the lunch progressed, the time came for the archangels to rise from their seats and exit the room. Just as Lucifer stood to leave, Alastor attempted to follow suit, but he was halted by Michael as God paused momentarily himself. Micheal informed Alastor that this particular gathering was intended primarily for the archangels, necessitating that the Radio Demon remain behind for this trial. Alastor stood there, casting a glance at Lucifer, who gradually began to grasp the implications of the situation unfolding before him.
"Why is Al not permitted to attend? Hell, I shouldn't even be present here, yet I have received an invitation to this meeting. Furthermore, Adam inflicted an injury on him using an angelic gold blade, which is significantly different from the weapons the exorcists were utilizing all these years, and he is still managed to stay alive. Yeah, the idiot did suffer for weeks without informing anyone until the situation escalated to the point that I had to step in after he was found passed out. However, I believe he deserves the opportunity to witness what falls upon the lieutenant since her takeover and to receive an explanation regarding how Adam came into possession of such a weapon to begin with," remarked Lucifer, defending Alastor, even though the sinner had not anticipated such support.
"You are aware of the regulations, brother… it has been decreed by the elders that only those of higher rank are permitted to…" Michael began, only to be interrupted by Lucifer's scowl.
"He holds a high rank; he is an Overlord! While it is true that he is not of royal lineage, what possible harm could come from him serving as my advisor?" Lucifer questioned, prompting a sigh from Michael as God placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"My son, let this matter rest; it is not worth the conflict. What our dreamer states is accurate; the demon holds a high rank, although not equivalent to the elders, he does possess some influence and sway," God commented, eliciting a smile from Lucifer, which caused Alastor to raise an eyebrow in surprise at being granted access to what appeared to be a sacred assembly.
Michael scoffed as he reluctantly conceded, while the other siblings expressed discomfort in the presence of Alastor. Despite his reputation, Alastor had proven to be a surprisingly docile sinner, exhibiting a level of politeness even while delivering sharp comments directed at Lucifer. As God acknowledged his sons with a nod, he exited the room, with Alastor and Lucifer trailing behind him.
Once again within the courtroom, God graciously arranged for Lucifer and Alastor to sit beside him at the apex, a position where Alastor had previously gazed up during the initial trial. Below them, Sera and Lute were escorted into the chamber and instructed to stand at the center for their judgment. Alastor observed Lute's expression, which revealed her shock upon seeing the sinner and the devil seated alongside God. As the trial commenced, the archangels began by enumerating the charges against Sera and Lute, which, from the perspective of Lucifer and Alastor, seemed trivial compared to the transgressions they were accustomed to in Hell. They exchanged glances, deciding it was prudent to remain silent unless prompted to speak. Sera faced charges of withholding crucial information and acting without proper counsel, with the likelihood that additional accusations would be forthcoming. Lute, according to Lucifer's understanding, was charged with murder, though Heaven's tendency to use convoluted language often obscured the gravity of such claims.
The proceedings unfolded rapidly, as the overwhelming evidence against Sera indicated that she would undoubtedly face consequences. Alastor found himself impressed by the efficiency of the archangels, especially considering he had assumed they were preoccupied with attempting to extract information from him yet managed to get this much on the head seraphim. However, it was when Michael granted Lucifer the opportunity to speak that both men began to ponder the intentions behind the archangels' actions.
Michael inquired, "Did you have a question regarding the source from which Adam acquired an angelic gold weapon?" As Lucifer nodded and rose from his seat, he pressed further, "You must have heard the question, Sera. Where did Adam manage to obtain an angelic gold guitar? He is not of archangel status!" Lucifer's voice was laced with a dark tone.
Sera responded, "I had it forged for him in preparation for the exterminations, in case he ever found himself in combat with someone outside of a sinner. That is the truth." As she spoke, Lucifer stared at her in disbelief, while Alastor appeared surprised that she had admitted to such a thing.
A palpable chill swept through the room, as all the archangels sensed Lucifer's seething rage. The devil was tempted to confront Sera about the perils of entrusting a dangerously egotistical individual with one of the most powerful weapons known to angels. However, before he could lose his composure, Alastor placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, urging him to take a seat and calm down. Acknowledging that this was not his domain, Lucifer heeded Alastor's advice and gradually composed himself, while Alastor began to articulate his thoughts.
"So, let me clarify for this esteemed court," Alastor began, "you believed it was prudent to provide a man with the intellect of a gorilla and the temperament of an angst-ridden teenager with a perilous weapon—one that could have potentially harmed even Lucifer—because you feared an uprising from the demons? It took us sinners over 200 years to even comprehend that you could be harmed by angelic steel, yet you entrusted a man-child with angelic gold." Alastor's frustration was evident, and he longed for a glass of whiskey, as the sheer absurdity of the situation was overwhelming, even for him, and he could only imagine how Husker would be laughing at him. At this, Sera only replied with a nod of her head, shame obviously written on her face from the realization.
Alastor approached Lucifer once more, and the two stood in silence, effectively tuning out the proceedings of the court hearing that unfolded around them. Despite the evidence of what God uncovered in Sera's mind, it would not shield her from her destined outcome. As God recounted Sera's intentions to incite a rebellion within hell, it became clear that Lucifer was already informed of these plans, particularly if his discussions from two hundred years ago were any indication. As a result, the Head Seraphim was to be stripped of her title and taken to a disclosed location while Emily was left in the care of Michael and Gabriel as she was to be trained to be take Sera's place.
Lute and the other exorcists faced a much graver punishment within Azreal's realm of purgatory, one that neither Lucifer nor Alastor seemed particularly concerned about. As the two were escorted away, God turned his attention to Lucifer and Alastor, instructing them to lower themselves to the ground in order to facilitate a serious discussion regarding the future of Heaven and Hell. Lucifer regarded his father with a small smile, then walked alongside Alastor, extending his hand. The unsuspecting deer, the moment his hand reached out, was abruptly pulled into Lucifer's form, and together they ascended into the air, to head straight down, landing on the spot where Sera and Lute had once stood. Alastor who was disoriented for a moment could only glare at Lucifer as the king laughed at his misery for a moment before reigning himself in.
With newfound confidence, Lucifer addressed the archangels and his father, expressing his hopes for a fresh start, and advocated for giving Charlie's hotel a chance. He elaborated on the considerable efforts Charlie had invested, detailing the lesson plans that she and Vaggie had meticulously crafted together, often spending countless hours in collaboration. When the topic of Vaggie's identity arose, Lucifer responded in a manner that inspired optimism among his brothers and father. He emphasized that if a fallen exorcist angel, who fell in love with his daughter, could find it within themselves to believe in the redemption of sinners, then the angelic council should be open to the possibility, particularly in light of Sir Pentious being the first redeemed sinner from the initiative. Alastor observed intently, his gaze fixed on Lucifer; the king's movements and speech resembled that of a ringmaster presiding over a chaotic circus, with Hell itself serving as the grand spectacle.
As the discussions reached their conclusion, contracts were drafted with the assurance of no further exterminations. God expressed his willingness to send chosen individuals to assist in the rehabilitation process, along with medical professionals to aid those struggling with substance abuse, albeit with the understanding that participation was voluntary, a notion Lucifer was not inclined to impose. Ultimately, the outcome was the most favorable scenario for everyone involved, as the group exited the room together, with Lucifer and Alastor being escorted towards the embassy that would facilitate their return to Hell.
As Lucifer and Alastor strolled along, they encountered Sir Pentious once again. The snake felt thankful he managed to catch up with the two before they returned to Hell. As he slithered closer, he bowed respectfully to Lucifer and presented more letters intended for the hotel residents. Observing this interaction, God and the other archangels looked on as Lucifer beamed at the sinner who had turned his fortunes around. He praised Sir Pentious, expressing his pride in him and wishing him enjoyment in Heaven, assuring him that the embassy would always be available should he require assistance. Sir Pentious, nodding appreciatively and somewhat at a loss for words, glanced over at Alastor.
"Alasstor, might I requessst your assistance in recording a persssonal message for Miss Cherriii Bomb?" Sir Pentious inquired.
Alastor regarded him for a moment before twirling his microphone staff in his hand and extending it, signaling that he was ready to record. With sincere gratitude, Sir Pentious began to speak, with God, the archangels, Lucifer, and Alastor as his witnesses. He opened his heart to Cherri, expressing his hope of seeing her again someday and his fondness for the battles they had fought and the moments they had shared prior to the extermination. He made a vow to better himself as an individual, vowing not to remain the coward he felt he was deep down. Once the recording concluded, Alastor retracted his staff. Sir Pentious offered a small word of thanks before slithering away, while the group continued on their way to the embassy. Not wishing to provoke a conflict, Lucifer turned to Alastor, questioning the reason behind his support for the snake sinner, as he recalled that the two were not precisely allies. However, his contemplation was abruptly interrupted as the group arrived at the embassy. After emotional farewells from Lucifer and polite ones from the sinner, the two began to make their way into the building.
As the two were on the verge of entering the building, God called out to Lucifer once more. The devil turned to face his father, filled with sorrow, fully aware that this would be their last encounter. In a poignant moment, the divine being approached and embraced Lucifer tightly once again. During this embrace, Alastor observed a brilliant light enveloping Lucifer, and he noted how the blood pact simmered beneath skin, hinting at a deeper significance. When God finally withdrew, Lucifer gazed at his father in astonishment.
"I have lifted your banishment; you have learned your lesson and are welcome to visit whenever you find the time. I would also like to meet my granddaughter someday," God stated, eliciting a reaction from Lucifer that resembled a fish gaping in disbelief.
Alastor cleared his throat politely as Lucifer nodded, momentarily rendered speechless. Meanwhile, the King made his way back toward the Radio Demon. With a teary wave, Alastor held the embassy door open, and the two of them proceeded back to Hell.
Upon their return to the hotel, they were met with a distressed Charlie, whose eyes were filled with tears as she panicked over Alastor's sudden disappearance once more. Vaggie was attempting to soothe her emotionally overwhelmed girlfriend, while Husk remained stoically indifferent. Niffty, brimming with excitement over Alastor's return, eagerly inquired if he had encountered any "bad boys." Meanwhile, Angel, with a provocative flair, suggested that Alastor and Lucifer had left for a trip of a more intimate nature, which caused both Alastor and Lucifer to blush deeply as they collectively chose to ignore the comment. It was not until the evening, when the atmosphere had finally settled, that Alastor found himself seated in a chair within the king's room, enjoying a well-deserved glass of whiskey. Lucifer, reclining on another lounger, was also indulging in whiskey while complaining about the burn it caused as it went down, prompting Alastor to chuckle softly.
"I must say, everything turned out better than I had anticipated. I want to express my gratitude for all that you have done, Al; it seems that Hell has a brighter future ahead. However, I must mention that you have been rather quiet since your return. Would you care to share what's on your mind?" Lucifer inquired, as he locked the door with the snap of his fingers and activated a magical shield, signifying that he was acting on their blood pact.
"I must admit, you have made my job considerably more difficult as of late. You initially approached me to resolve your predicament, which I did spectacularly! Yet, you fall gravely ill not once, but twice, to the extent that you fainted during your own trial, requiring my assistance once again! Your brothers' interrogation of my character was quite comical, if I may say so. And now, after everything has transpired, I find myself still seated in your quarters, having another drink, while you wish to discuss feelings when I am still trying to figure that piece of the game out. You must think I have lost my sanity," Alastor replied, as Lucifer continued to sip from his glass until it was empty.
"I appreciate the reminder of how many times I have fucked up, Bambi. That's really generous of you," Lucifer retorted, rising to refill his glass with whiskey.
"Oh, it's no trouble at all, sire. After all, I exist to entertain the masses; the world is merely a stage! However, after everything that has occurred, there is something that has been troubling my thoughts," Alastor remarked, as Lucifer glanced over his shoulder while retrieving his glass and returning to the lounger.
"What is it?" Lucifer asked, breaking into a smirk. "Don't tell me you've genuinely gone senile?" he teased, prompting Alastor to raise an eyebrow in response.
"I find myself intrigued by the magic utilized in Heaven, which compelled one to divulge their innermost secrets. I must admit, I was rather taken aback by how it affected you," Alastor stated, as Lucifer awaited his elaboration.
"While I was caring for you in that room, I experienced something unusual for the first time. Although I promised to discuss my vulnerabilities, I still struggle to articulate it. I began to develop feelings for you—feelings I had never encountered before, reminiscent only of those I had for my mother. These emotions are beyond my comprehension, and I am uncertain if I will ever fully understand them," Alastor confessed, taking another drink to steady himself as Lucifer stared at him for a moment before setting his whiskey down on the table and rising to his feet.
As Alastor finished the contents of his glass, it wasn't until he opened his eyes that he realized he had closed them, only to find Lucifer standing directly in front of him. The next moment, Alastor found himself surprised as Lucifer crawled into his lap, their chests pressed closely together. Lucifer's knees bent and pressed against the back of the lounger, while small yet scarred hands wrapped around Alastor's neck, leaving him utterly motionless.
"Well, while we delve into our vulnerabilities, I must admit I wasn't expecting this. So here's what's going to happen: how do you feel with me sitting in your lap right now? Be honest," Lucifer said, as Alastor struggled to comprehend the unfolding situation.
"Warm... just warm," Alastor replied, acutely aware of Lucifer's breath brushing against his face, mingled with the scent of alcohol.
"If you want me to stop, then you know what to do," Lucifer responded, sealing his lips against Alastor's in a deep kiss.
The Radio Demon found himself momentarily immobilized; however, as Lucifer began to move his mouth against him, Alastor gradually surrendered to the sensation. This allowed Lucifer to slip his forked tongue into Alastor's now open mouth, where it began to explore. Lucifer let out a soft groan as Alastor reciprocated, tracing the contours of Lucifer's mouth with his own tongue. Meanwhile, Lucifer's arms, which had been wrapped around Alastor, began to weave their way into Alastor's hair, pulling the strands just enough to break the kiss. This maneuver granted him access to the exposed skin of Alastor's neck, where he nipped at his Adam's apple and left lingering marks. Alastor responded with a groan, relishing the sensations on his neck as Lucifer guided him into another passionate kiss.
After a moment, Alastor became aware of a growing stiffness below, realizing that Lucifer was grinding his hips against him, a motion that elicited another moan from the Radio Demon. When Lucifer finally broke the kiss, he pulled back just enough to take in Alastor's kiss-swollen lips and dazed expression. With a smirk, Lucifer tore his tie from around his neck and unfastened the top buttons of his dress shirt, exposing his skin to Alastor. In response, Alastor gripped Lucifer's hair, pulling his head back as Lucifer's demonic form began to emerge, his eyes shifting from gold to red and horns sprouting from his skin. With a simple command, Lucifer directed Alastor to bury his face against his shoulder and instructed him to bite, a command that the Radio Demon followed without hesitation. The overwhelming sensations coursing through Alastor ignited an insatiable craving within him as the taste of angelic blood graced his lips, prompting both him and Lucifer to moan in unison.
As Alastor sank his teeth into Lucifer, the king continued to grind his hips slowly against Alastor. While Lucifer pressed forward with his grinding, it was evident that his tactics were effective, sparking Alastor's interest, albeit the king recognized that the demon would not cross certain boundaries this evening. Nevertheless, Lucifer hoped that in due time, Alastor would permit him to take their encounter further, as he felt he had waited long enough for this moment since forming the "Gentlemen's Bond".
