Someone sent me this request inspired by a story that the voice actor for Sonic posted on his stories: Basically, Ben Schwartz had to reschedule some shows of his bc he got vertigo.

As it so turns, I'm sure I've had vertigo. It'll feel like my eyes are spinning violently without me moving and it's like my head is going a thousand miles an hour - it sucks big time. It's also worse when, even if your eyes are still, you can feel them moving. Ya'll won't understand unless it's happened to you. I don't usually get nauseous with it though (touch wood) but idfk. Maybe it's bc I wear glasses? Idk, but vertigo is abhorrent.

Sonic doesn't bounce back after the events in space as well as Shadow the "Edge"hog.

Shadow finds this out *literally* when Sonic falls into him and then throws up on his shoes.

Shadow liked to pride himself on very few things in life. He was the Ultimate Life Form. He seldom had things to improve upon - he was the best. Where he lacked in certain areas, he made up for them tenfold in others. He had greater strength than the Echidna Warrior - though he was still incredibly strong. He was quicker to formulate a plan than the twin-tailed Fox. He was smarter than Gerald, quicker to jump into action than a highly trained G.U.N agent. The only one he didn't match in one thing?

Sonic. In speed. Shadow hated it, but Sonic truly was the fastest thing in all the galaxies. Shadow would outmanoeuvre him in teleportation, though, and sometimes he'd be quicker in that respect. In a race? Sonic destroyed him every time. Shadow took it personally for the minute few weeks they were enemies and fighting each other, striving to improve his rocket boots. Without those, he couldn't cross any body of water. He simply wasn't fast enough.

Sonic was.

It drove Shadow insane as he sped around an island, trying to match the speedster. Shadow was full of rage from the moment he opened his eyes, and he often still was, even though the Wachowskis had kindly opened their house to him - even after he tried to kill the male... Thomas? It was due to Sonic's words, as Thomas confessed to him one evening, long after everyone had gone to bed for the night.

"You should cut him some slack, you know." Tom sighed lightly. Shadow remained rigid on the porch, watching the forest whisper to the sky. "In my defence, he pushed me down the stairs... and I owe him nothing. We are equal." Shadow spoke. Tom cleared his throat. "First of all, he tripped... and secondly, in your eyes and mind, yes. You went blow for blow, right? You called it quits and are even in that way, yes. But not in our eyes, Shadow." The ebony alien inclined his head slightly. "What does that mean?" He asked lowly. "You want the cold hard truth?" Tom leaned on his knees. "I don't care much for you. I don't dislike you, but I have no real reason to like you. Your rectifying of your actions cancelled that out, but the way you came after my boys? I don't take that lightly."

Shadow stayed silent. "Knuckles doesn't trust you, Tails is frightened of you... but Sonic convinced us to let you stay. He convinced us that you're different and that you're a good person." Shadow sighed silently. "Perhaps I have been too... stiff... with the blue one." He acknowledged. Tom hummed. "Perhaps? It's not my business if you two become friends or not, but you need to be civil with each other - and that includes taking his personality in stride. I know he can be a lot, but snapping and getting violent isn't an answer that we tolerate here, do we understand each other?" Shadow exhaled, licking his lips. "Has he spoken to you about the cannon?" He broached.

Tom shifted on the wooden bench. "A little. Sonic says he can't remember, but I don't buy it. He's different, and not in a way I recognise." Shadow couldn't help the scoff. "Have you gone into space and held back the force of the sun?" Tom chuckled darkly. "No, but I did serve my own war on deployment. So I know how decisions and fights can change someone. Sonic isn't different in a personality way, he's different in a... way. I can't put my finger on it." Shadow huffed, pushing away the urge to argue back.

"He has exerted his chaos energy to the limits beyond his body. I am surprised he is still alive if I am being frank." Shadow began to explain. Tom's brow furrowed. "Chaos energy?" Shadow nodded. "Yes. All Mobians, like myself, Sonic, even the twin-tail and Echidna - we all have a certain level of chaos energy. It is like... gasoline to our engines. You use too much, you mess it up irreparably. You have to allow it to top back up after a long-term use, or you damage the engine. For beings like the twin-tail - uh, Tails-" He rectified upon Tom's unimpressed glare, "He doesn't need much chaos energy, short of basic survival. I highly doubt he even knows how to use it. If you're a creature designed to use it, then you just know. Tails and Knuckles, not so much. Sonic and myself? Yes, we do. That's why he can use lightning to a certain extent too - and manipulate electricity."

Tom's face slackened briefly. "The power outage?" Shadow nodded. "An extreme release of pent-up chaos energy. It's usually tied to our emotions too, but they have to be very extreme to be used that way." He paused. "Do you know what happened after... London?" He hesitated briefly. Tom cleared his throat. "No. Apparently, I was down for several days." Shadow winced. "I apologise for that. I regretted it almost immediately when I realised you weren't Commander Walters." Tom hummed.

"Sonic used the master Emerald to come to me. We fought... it was by far the most taxing fight I have ever had. He was beyond angry. His chaos energy had completely taken over, driving his fury into blows and attacks. I vaguely remember mocking him and waking up on the moon, powerless from the Emerald." Shadow paused. "That's where his chaos energy stopped influencing his sense of person and he calmed down, explaining more about his side. I switched sides and we stopped the Robotniks." Tom nodded. "Yeah, I'd seen that on the TV... but what did you do?"

Shadow bit his lip briefly. "We had to hold back the equivalent force of the sun to stop it from destroying the Earth. Sonic was already running on low thanks to the emotional fight, but he held strong - stronger than I would've thought. We directed it away from the Earth, and his energy gave up. He fell from the satellite station. I don't know what happened between then and my arrival, but I know he will be low for a long time, if ever again full."

Tom nodded. "Is that why he's acting weird now? Why he's tripping over air and being sick? It's like he's got vertigo." Shadow nodded. "It is likely. Sonic will most likely be disoriented for a long time, weeks, if not months as his chaos energy builds back up to a functioning level." Tom stood up with a soft grunt, nodding at the shoes by the steps. "Better learn how to wash your shoes then, if he's gonna be like this for a while." Shadow grimaced. He hated vomit - even before all of this shit happened. When Maria caught the flu once, Shadow was so repulsed, he hid.

He grunted lightly. "Great."

The following lunchtime, Shadow agreed to be saddled with the chaos-lacking blue blur while Tom and Maddie headed to work, and Tails tested some gadgets out on Knuckles. Shadow fast regretted doing that - as it meant he had to play nurse to a whiny baby. "Sonic, I swear to any diety that's listening, if you fall over, I'm not picking you up." He growled. Sonic swayed by the door. "But I'm hungry." He whined. "I want a chilli dog." Shadow exhaled harshly through his nose. "I will get you a chilli dog, IF you can make it to the couch without crashing into the wall or throwing up." Trying not to be smug, Shadow retreated into the kitchen to fetch a premade chilli dog. He could hear loud crashes and thuds as the blue speedster tried to follow the instructions. Shadow waited for a beat before entering the living area.

Sonic slouched against the wall, eyes squeezed shut, clutching it as if it were a lifeline. "You're not dying again are you?" Shadow asked roughly. Sonic's foot took a shaky step forward, but gave way, sending him to the ground. Shadow sighed loudly and put the chilli dog on the table. He stepped over and extended his hand. "I highly doubt Tom and Maddie will appreciate the new rug if you continue to lay there." He bit sarcastically. Sonic whined quietly. "Oh, my head really hurts." He blinked owlishly. "Yeah, that happens when you use all of your chaos energy in fell swoop. You'll be like this for a while." Shadow said, helping hoist the blue blur up.

Sonic's face blanched almost as quick as he ran. He gagged, and Shadow looked away. He inhaled deeply, trying to rein in his anger. "Ew... sorry." Sonic whispered. Shadow gingerly toes his shoes off, not looking at the cobalt alien. "Just get to the couch. I'm trying so hard not to strangle you right now." Sonic wiped his mouth pitifully. "I said I was sorry. Puking ain't fun!" He argued. "Neither is ruining my second pair of shoes! And current only ones! I'll have to go barefoot utntil they're dry now!" Shadow hissed. Sonic rolled his eyes with a light groan. "I'm sorry, ok? I thought I was fine today. Obviously not."

Shadow sighed loudly again. "It- it's fine. You are unwell." Sonic hummed, begining to chew the chilli dog. Shadow grabbed a bag and picked his shoes up, throwing it on the porch. He'll deal with them later. "Ugh, thanks for this, Shads! It's so good." Sonic moaned. Shadow hummed, only somewhat inrteuiged by the nice smell, wafting his way. "If you're sick again becuase of that and not the chaos energy, just know you're cleaning it up."

Sonic laughed around his chilli dog.
