Chapter 4: Talk it Out

Molly was nervously tapping her pen at her desk, as the teacher was giving away the tests that the class had done a week ago. She didn't expect to have much, but she really hoped to be something higher than F.

Because of her superhero life and gigs around the city, she barely had time to study. Even though Molly did have hard periods during middle school, she never expected to be in that much trouble with high school life...

''Okay, next one is... Oh. Milly...'' The teacher said with a disappointed look.

Just the expression was enough to tell Molly she failed miserably. She slowly got up and walked to see her grade... F-...

''Wh-What? But... I don't understand, I'm usually good at math...'' Molly said, shocked.

''Well, you don't show it at all! So far, you have only D and F-. Things aren't going well, Milly, focus more! Don't just daydream around the hallway!''

Swallowing her pride, Molly took her test and went back to her desk. She couldn't believe it. As a kid, her mood would've been ruined if she had a C, but now she barely managed to scrap enough for a D...

Not only she couldn't study, but she wasn't even trying to pay attention in class. As her teacher mentioned, all Molly was doing was look through the window and daydream.

Mainly about her life. What she'd do after school, would there be a new crime, what her future would be like things like that. She used to do that in middle school too, but only when the classes were extremely boring... Now it felt like almost all of them were!

''Ugh... What am I doing wrong?!'' Molly muttered to herself.

''Tough luck, eh?'' Jacob joked next to Molly.

''Oh, shut up...'' Molly said, embarrassed while rolling her eyes.

It felt like a stab in the back. She still didn't have a single B or A in any class... Not to mention that she didn't have any close friends either.

She barely got to see Jacob and Mia after school since they're too busy with studying, Ava got a flu and was gone for a week now, and all the other girls were... Definitely not Molly's type.

But all of this was just a rough moment. Knowing how positive Molly is, she knew there would be a brighter side... Or at least she hoped so...

...

Things in Brighton weren't much prettier. Leah was at Sharon's place to tell her all about Libby's shooting attempt...

''I DON'T GET IT! Alright, Matias doesn't wanna have anything to do with us, cool, BUT WHY?! WHY DOES HE PLAY DUMB WHEN IT COMES TO ME AND LIBBY?! WHY IS HE HIDING THE FACT HE HAD LIBBY BEFORE HIS NEW FAMILY?!'' Leah said, while angrily walking in circles.

''Leah, please calm down. Don't waste your anger on a leach like him! Listen, he's just a guy who cares only about his ego. If he says he has another daughter, all the media would ask questions'' Sharon said, sitting next to the table and looking at Leah with a concerned look.

''GOOD! THEY SHOULD ASK, AND HE SHOULD SPEAK THE TRUTH! THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW WHAT PIECE OF SH-

''Agh-ah! Language, please!'' Sharon interrupted.

''S-Sorry... But I mean what I said! He acts like a total angel for his new girl, WHEN IN REALITY, HE'S AN IDIOT! He left us to write a book WHICH IS A COMPLETE WASTE ANYWAY! Legit, I have no idea who would even wanna read something like that! A fanfic written by a pre-schooler is more interesting than that!''

''My mom used to say ''it doesn't matter what you sell, but more HOW you sell it''. A businessman could sell normal grass from his backyard to people if he's convincing enough. Same with your ex-husband. No matter how bad of a writer he is, if he knows how to sell his books, people will buy them'' Sharon explained.

''Ugh... I should've learned that before my bookshop went to ashes...'' Leah said, as she finally calmed and sat next to Sharon.

It was clear how much the poor woman was struggling. Not because she was jealous over Matias being with another woman, but because Libby was struggling over his mistake.

Something more horrific than hell for Leah was losing her daughter. That was the one thing she'd never recover from. A reason she was trying everything to get Libby to her normal self. Sending her back to therapy, spending as much time as possible with her, giving her back her turtles, helping her with the new high school year... Everything just to keep Libby sane enough to not do something drastic.

''Hey... Listen, everything's gonna be alright. Yeah, maybe your home is gone, but... You still have a place to stay with that officer! You have a job, Libby is... Well, she's doing alright for now... But the point is, you're still keeping everything under control!'' Sharon said.

''I really don't care if I have a place to stay or no job, I want Libby to be okay... If something happens to her, I'd never forgive myself for it! How are you coping with Molly being gone?! If Libby just disappears like that, I'd lose my mind over it''

''You think I don't? I'm absolutely terrified about her! But... Keeping what's left of my family is the least I can do. That's what Molly would want, wherever she is...'' Sharon said.

''Ugh, it feels like the Chens are the only ones without any problems with their kids...'' Leah joked.

''Oh, they also said about some fair share of worries with Ollie and June, but yeah, they're definitely better than us. Would you believe it, they found the big sister of that orphan Samantha that used to live with them''

''Oh yeah, I know about that. It's Tamara, right? She was a colleague of mine at Joy Healers. She literally started jumping from happiness when she spotted the similarities between her and that girl''

''Good for them... I didn't like that girl anyway...'' Sharon said, hiding the fact that Samantha was the reason Molly ended up in a hospital for a while.

Too bad for the Chens for having to let Tamara get her sister back. After some doubts and tests made, the results were obvious: They were sisters. After that, they both left town.

At one part, it was good for them. After years of separation, they were back together. But... One huge problem was that Samantha left Brighton to deal with the skinwalkers by itself.
