Chapter 2

Dr. Daniel Jackson was rather busy working in his office. That morning Jack had already bothered him and broke his lamp once again. He had just gotten a new bulb installed and readjusted the lighting when Sam led Quincy and Jack through the door.

She called, "Daniel!"

He looked over from his desk, "Hey Sam!" He then noticed a new face and Jack standing behind the pair. He looked closer at Quincy and though she looked very young he understood she much be older to obtain the rank of Major. He waited for the introduction.

"I want you to meet a good friend of mine. This is Major Quincy Adams." Sam introduced the pair stepping out of the line of sight.

Quincy looked upon Daniel and cocked her head. She whispered to Sam, "He looks a lot like Cam."

Sam whispered back, "No he doesn't."

"Picture Cam with glasses." she instructed.

For a moment Sam's mind conjured up her friend Cameron Mitchell. She imagined the man with glasses and then shook the thought from her mind as he indeed did look a lot like Daniel.

Daniel introduced himself, "I'm Dr. Daniel Jackson. I'm a linguist. I speak 28 languages I'm also an archeologist."

Quincy stepped forward and held out a hand, "I'm Quincy. I'm in love." she flirted with him.

Sam giggled as Quincy would often flirt with men just to see the reaction.

Daniel glanced at Sam and soon realized it was an inside joke between the two women. Thus, he flirted in return. "After meeting me, you should be." he cracked a joke.

The trio giggled and laughed as Jack rolled his eyes annoyed.

Sam spoke up, "Quincy was just transferred here and she will be working directly with us on SG-1."

Jack cocked an eyebrow, "I wasn't informed of that."

She informed, "General Hammond approved the request this morning." She looked to Quincy and cheered, "You will be going off world with us."

She gave a sour look. "Off world? To other planets."

Surprised by the reaction Sam wondered, "Don't you want to go with us off world?"

"Depends. What's out there?" she asked cautiously.

Daniel spoke, "Well…our big baddie is the Goa'uld. Then there are the Replicators. We also have friends. The Nox, the Asgard. We're not sure what became of the Furlings. We're friends with Thor and the Asgard. They help us the most."

"Thor?" she asked. She wondered, "Odin?"

"I see you are familiar with Norse mythology. Odin passed a long time ago. Asgard rule by council and Thor is the military leader." he informed. "You will find a lot of our myths are rooted in Ancient Alien theory."

"I'm well aware of that." she informed. "What about the Goa'uld? You said they were the biggest baddie."

"They are a symbiotic race who will take a host against their will. They claim to be gods and will steal a culture and enslave the people. One was on Earth over six thousand years ago. In Egypt. His name was Ra." he informed. He noticed she didn't seem shocked or surprised. He continued, "There was an uprising and the slaves ran Ra off and buried the Gate. That Gate was found in 1928 by Professor Paul Langford. And the rest is history." he motioned towards his work around him.

Quincy noticed a stone table on the table under the magnifying light. She could easily read the language for it was her native tongue. "You are deciphering that tablet?"

"I am." he nodded. "This is written in Ancient. I'm one of the few people who can decipher it. Latin was derived from it. It does help to know Latin."

"I know Latin." she informed.

Sam spoke up, "Quincy has a number of PhD's too, Daniel. She's poly lingual."

"That's good to know." he told her.

Jack asked, "What you got degrees in, Adams?"

"My most recent degree is in internal medicine. I have four PhD's. Physics, Law, Linguistics, Engineering." she reported.

Jack slowly nodded as he realized she must be a genius by Earth's standards.

Daniel stated, "You must have a high IQ."

Before she could reply Sam stated, "She got a perfect score. Off the charts. I can't wait to introduce her to Rodney." She grinned mischievously.

Quincy waved it off, "Actually…I'm pretty dumb."

"No you are not." Sam disagreed wondering she would make such a statement.

"My father was a genius. Me…not so much." she stated firmly.

Daniel asked, "What did your father do?"

"He was a physician." she informed. "So were my sisters."

Sam blinked, "You never told me you had sisters." For all the years she had known Quincy she never spoke much about her family nor did she ever meet any family members. Thinking back she did find it odd and wondered why Quincy never spoke about her family before.

"I come from a large family." she replied. "I'm the dummy out of the bunch. Just because a piece of paper says you are smart, doesn't mean you are." she concluded.

"I know how smart you are." Sam countered. "Come on…I want you to meet, Teal'c."

"Teal'c?" she asked.

"He's Jaffa." she grinned.

Short Time Later

Sam and Jack then led Quincy to the gym to meet Teal'c who was busy working out. Along the way Sam had debriefed Quincy on what a Jaffa is and about Teal'c and his history.

Jack called as he walked in through the doorway. "T!"

The Jaffa had been jumping rope and paused. He sported gray sweatpants and a black A style, sleeveless t-shirt. He looked upon his friends and the new face wondering who the new girl was.

Sam grinned, "Teal'c! I would like you to meet the newest member of the team, Major Quincy Adams."

Quincy offered a handshake, "I was debriefed in a hallway about you, Teal'c. I'm honored to meet you."

He graciously took her hand and gave a slight nod. He looked to Jack wondering why they needed another member on SG-1.

Jack explained, "She's another kid genius who went to the Academy with Carter." He didn't sound enthused himself for he made the situation sound more like a favor than someone who is qualified.

Sam gave an annoyed look as she worked hard to get Quincy transferred and was looking forward to working with her.

Teal'c noted the reactions and quickly gathered the situation. Sam's friend was transferred without Jack's knowledge and it was obvious the Colonel was a little annoyed. He then looked to Quincy to see her reaction to Jack's words.

The young looking Ancient nodded, "Pretty much." She agreed with Jack's assessment.

Teal'c immediately found Quincy amusing and liked her honesty.

Sam rolled her head back, "It's not that. You are highly sought after, Quincy."

"I didn't put in for the transfer." she reminded her.

"When I asked if you wanted to work with me and General Hammond you said 'yes'." she countered.

"I made the mistake of assuming you would be going to NASA since that's your dream job." she confessed.

"Why would you think that?" Sam wondered. "I asked you to come to work with me and I'm in the Air Force."

"Because you are a NASA groupie." she remarked.

The more Jack listened to the banter the more he liked the new face on the team. She would stand up to Sam and even called her a NASA groupie. He understood Sam thought highly of Quincy and the thought of getting Quincy on his side crossed his mind as often Sam would argue with him. She could be backup both off world and on.

Sam rolled her eyes annoyed. "Come on, I'll introduce you to Janet next." She bid goodbye to Teal'c, "See you later, Teal'c."

Quincy stated, "It really was nice meeting you." She was then tugged by Sam to follow to meet the base doctor.

Jack lingered behind. Once Sam and Quincy had left the gym he asked, "What ya think of the new girl?"

"She appears to be very young." he noted.

Jack stated, "She's Carter's age."

He concluded, "With her youthful appearance she would target for any Goa'uld."

"Ya think?' he asked concerned.

"Indeed." he confirmed.

Infirmary

Sam chatted with Quincy all the way to the infirmary. She spoke of Janet and her adopted daughter, Cassie along the way. "You will like Janet." Sam assured. "She an excellent doctor and a good friend."

"Maybe she will let me work the infirmary now and then. I have my degree but I have not gone for any board exams yet." Quincy stated. "I need some hands on practice."

"You can always bring that up to her." Sam agreed. She led her friend into the infirmary and directly to Janet's office. She poked her head inside the door and found Janet sitting at her desk going over paperwork. "Got a minute, Janet?"

The doctor looked up, "Sure Sam." she smiled.

Sam stepped in with Quincy right behind her. "I would like you to meet our newest transfer. Major Quincy Adams." She then shyly added, "We've known each other since the Academy."

Janet stood up the greet the new Major. "Welcome to the S.G.C.. I hope the Colonel hasn't scared you off."

"Colonel O'Neill?" she asked.

"That's the one." she agreed.

"I like him." she declared. "He kind of reminds me of my father in a way." she concluded. She glanced at Sam who stood looking rather perturbed. "What?" she asked.

"You and I are the same age." she stated.

"And?" she asked.

"You may look like a teenager but he's not that old." she determined. The statement was alarming as Sam as had feelings for the Colonel.

Janet stated, "I have got to ask. What is your secret to looking so young, Major?"

Quincy could not tell the truth. She could not reveal her past or the device. She simply made up a tall tale instead. "Mud!" she declared.

Janet asked, "Which brand of facial mud?"

"No brand. Just got dig it up out of the backyard…" she teased.

Sam knew the joke. She rolled her eyes and shook her head, "Just make sure you pick out the worms." she smirked.

"Yup." she laughed.

Janet asked, "A comedian, huh?"

"Laughter is the best medicine." she reminded her.

"So it is." she agreed. "So, what will you be doing in the S.G.C., Major?"

"I guess I am working with Sam and her team." she informed.

"SG-1." she gave a nod of approval. "Before you go off world I need you to submit a DNA test."

"What for?" Quincy asked.

"I screen all new arrivals for the Ancient gene. The Colonel has it. All the alien tech is gene coded and if you have it, it can activate." she warned.

"The Ancient gene is in humans on Earth?" she asked surprised.

Sam informed, "The Ancients were an advanced human. Some obviously mated with our ancestors."

Quincy stood perplexed, "Who?" Her mind reeled as she wondered which Ancient is was that was mating with the earthlings.

Sam laughed, "We don't know who. We do know there was some…you know…going on…way back then."

Quincy raked her brain trying to figure out which Ancient it likely was. She muttered under her breath, "Come to another planet and start screwing the locals. What brain dead idiot did that?"

Janet found it amusing. She laughed, "I guess the Ancients had some gigolos romping about."

Quincy debated which gigolo is could be as a number of possibilities went through her mind. It seemed observed to her as when Atlantis was on Earth there was a great plague that was killing millions and nearly took her own life. "Who would come to Earth and start screwing around in the middle of a plague?" she asked more to herself.

Sam asked, "Did you get some debriefing before coming in?"

"What?" she asked.

"Just Daniel didn't tell you what happened to the Ancients but you seem to know about the plague." Sam noted.

"Little." she lied.

"Oh!" Sam stated a bit confused.

Janet ordered, "Come back for your test and physical after you get settled in, Major Adams."

"I will." she replied with no intention of actually taking a DNA test. Though Earth medicine was rather primitive compared to the heyday of her people, she did not risk exposing herself to anyone.
