Chapter 6: The Problems

The common room was loud and some of the third years were throwing paper balls at people. I ran up to the dorm to find Audrey in bed crying. "Are you okay?!" I ask urgently.

"Go away!" She yells back at me. She pulls the blanket further up, over her head. I walk over and sit at the edge of the bed.

"You can tell me what's wrong." I say. "I promise that I won't tell the other girls." Her response is kicking me off the bed. "Hey!" I say popping back up over the edge of the bed. I hear a giggle from under the covers. "Oh so that's how we are playing this, is it?" I jump back onto the bed and pull the covers off effortlessly. Audrey is curled up in a ball near her pillow. I sit up on the bed. "You better tell me what's wrong or I will go get Paiyton, and we both know that you don't want that to happen."

Audrey then sits up. "Ugh, fine." A moment passes. "I… I umm… I found out a little bit before coming to Hogwarts that.. Ummm… that my grandfather passed and… he was my everything. So, I had become really depressed and ummm… I started to… I started to self harm. My parents wouldn't let me stay home, and on the train I had another self harm attack. Luckily, some of the people in my compartment were able to stop me before I did more. That's why I talk to Professor Dumbledore every once in a while."

"W-wow. I am so SO sorry that that happened to you. If you ever need to talk, you can talk to me." I say.

"Thank you." Audrey says. "And I am sorry for being such a dickhead to you, it's just that this has been really hard on me and I'm trying to be nice to people but it's been extra hard to be nice to you because… well because you remind me of my grandfather. He was always the most bubbly person and you are just like him." She starts crying then. "I don't know why I'm crying!" She laughs through the tears. I scoot over on the bed and wrap my arm around her. She starts to lean back and we fall backwards off the bed.

"AHH!!" I laugh. She starts giggling with me. The door opens and Paiyton walks in.

"Hey!! Are you guys having fun without me?!" She giggles as she walks in. She runs and jumps onto Audrey's bed in two strides.

"Ahhh! What the fuck are you doing Paiyton!!!!" Mikayla yells as she comes in laughing.

"I'm having fuuun Mikayla! HAHAHA" While I get up I realize that Ainsley's bed curtains are closed.

"Hey Audrey?" I say quietly.

"Yeah?" She replies.

"Why isn't Ainsley out here with us? She's sitting in her bed I think. Her bed curtains are closed." Audrey then looks over at Ainsley's bed.

"I dunno. Maybe she is just tired. I'm surprised that Mikayla and Paiyton are this energetic. I mean it was the first day of school today and at 8:15 at night they are literally jumping on my bed." She laughs at me.

I look over at her while we are still laying on the floor. I finally get a good look at her. She has long, dark brown hair that has black dyed tips. Her skin is fair and clear of acne. And finally her eyes… They are dark purplish-blue. They are beautiful. I could get lost in them forever… "Amilee?! Hello?" I see a hand waving in front of my face.

"What?!" I ask, surprised.

"You spaced out there. You okay?"

"Yeah, sorry." I say flustered. "I was just thinking."

"About what? If you don't mind me asking."

"Oh, it's nothing."

"You sure?" She looks concerned.

"Yes I'm sure!" I laugh. I then get wacked with a pillow. "Ahh!!!!" I look up and see Paiyton standing on the bed above me holding a pillow. "Paiyton what was that!"

"Payback." She says with her hands on her hips.

"For what?!" I ask, exasperated.

"Nothing. Just payback cause I'm sure that you will do something soon to annoy me hehe."

"Oh. My. GOD. Paiyton you are something else." Mikayla says. I look at the clock. It's 8:25 now. Curfew is at 8:35. I still need to change.

"Oh shit!" Mikayla says. We all grab our clothes and toothbrushes and run to the bathroom. I change first, then Mikayla, after Mikayla is Audrey, and Paiyton changes last. Then we all crowd around the sink to quickly brush our teeth and we rush back to our dorm and jump into bed before curfew checks. I heard before we came here that Slytherin is the strictest about curfew so I actually try to go to sleep to make sure I don't get in trouble. I then hear a knock on the door and it creaks open. The female prefect, Erica Lyre flickers the lights to check if we are awake. After she is sure that we are asleep, she turns out the light and leaves. I sigh in relief. I didn't realize that I was holding my breath. I'm glad that I didn't get caught still awake. I soon fall asleep.

That night, I have vivid dreams. My dreams confuse me though. In every dream, Audrey was involved in some way. In one of them, I just spend an entire "day" with her. In another one, I dream that we are dating. I wish.

I've always liked girls. I've had to lie about the feeling because it is socially unacceptable to like the same gender as yourself. The technical term for liking the same gender as yourself is "gay." There is another term for girls liking girls. The term is lesbian. When Mum had asked about crushes, I would always say that I just haven't had one yet. But that's a lie. I liked a girl in my primary school class. Her name was Lilah. She was so pretty. She had short, red hair and the deepest brown eyes, like pools of water but in brown. I could've gotten lost in them all day, if allowed to. The only one who knows that I like girls is Draco. He knows all of my deepest and darkest secrets.

In the morning, I wake up to Paiyton again. "Here we go again" I groan.
