Mike knew Alison was special. He had since the day he had met her. He smiled to himself as he remembered telling his Dad that he had met 'the one' but now things were different. Her accident and moving to Button House had changed everything. He sighed as he thought of his wife, seeing her on the ground outside the window had been the most frightening thing that had ever happened to him. He shook his head, trying to rid himself of the image of her laying there unconscious.
"Mike?"
He looked up as she walked towards him, the neck brace she had been sent home from the hospital with had been discarded.
"You ok?"
"Yeah." He paused as she sat on the sofa next to her. "You?"
"Mike, I can see dead people."
"We should get you help." Mike paused. "Are there ghost busters in England?"
"I dunno." She smiled slightly as she heard a gasp she knew he never would. Kitty ran from the room as he spoke. "But even if there is, why should we get them? They were here before we were. Its their home too."
"But they are dead."
"So you admit I can see them then?" She watched as he shrugged his shoulders.
"No."
"Mike."
"Yeah, ok. You can see ghosts. And from what I can see you can see them everywhere. How many are here?"
"Well." Alison paused. "There's a few. Don't know if I have met them all. There's Lady Button. You fixed her portrait."
"Yeah." He remembered.
"Then there's Pat, he has an arrow through his neck." Mike winced. "He was a scout leader, I think but I haven't asked about the arrow. The Captain, a war hero. Then there's Mary, Kitty, Robin, Thomas, Humphrey and Julian."
"Anyone else?"
"Could be." Alison rested against him. "They seem nice."
"You didn't think that before."
"A misunderstanding."
"Ok." He paused. "But."
"How would you like it? If we were here and then some new couple came and got us out when we had been here hundreds of years? No, Mike. I think we are just going to have to accept we have them."
"Ok." Mike wrapped an arm around her, unaware that Pat and the Captain had heard everything. "I can cope with that. If you can. Housemates. Just, I can't hear or see them." He paused. "What if I upset them?"
"You wont."
"I might."
"You wont. They are just people."
"Who happen to be dead."
"Exactly." Pat stated as Alison rolled her eyes. "We wont hurt anyone."
Mike kissed her hair as she snuggled into him.
"Ghosts." He smiled. "I am living in a real haunted house."
"Yeah." Alison looked at him. "You ok with that?"
"Yeah." He smiled. "I think I might be."
