The Chunin Exams Part 3: Preliminaries
After the harrowing experiences in the Forest of Death, the preliminaries arrived. Naruto's team—himself, Natsumi, and Naruko—stood at the ready, prepared to face their opponents.
1. Yoroi vs Sasuke
Yoroi of the Oto team was quick to engage, his speed far superior to most of his classmates. Sasuke, despite his growing curse mark, was initially caught off guard by the sheer pace of the fight. However, the moment Yoroi tried to drain Sasuke's chakra with his signature ability, Sasuke's Sharingan activated.
With the Sharingan's power, Sasuke began to predict Yoroi's every move. His superior reaction time and speed allowed him to counter each of Yoroi's attacks with ease. Sasuke wasn't able to land a single blow at first, but once he figured out Yoroi's weakness, he came in close, landing a fierce punch to the face that knocked him down.
With an expertly executed Chidori, Sasuke sealed the deal, knocking Yoroi unconscious. The crowd erupted in applause, and Sasuke's confidence grew, but so did the curse mark's pull on him.
2. Shino vs Zaku
Zaku of the Oto team relied on his wind-based attacks to try and overwhelm Shino. However, Shino had something far more dangerous: his insects. As Zaku unleashed his air pressure blasts, Shino's beetles swarmed in from all sides. The air was thick with bugs as Shino's insects dug into Zaku's flesh, attacking the internal organs with a brutal precision that only a master of the Aburame clan could achieve.
Zaku, unable to move or defend himself, collapsed under the onslaught of Shino's bugs. In moments, Zaku was defeated, his body writhing in the aftermath as Shino stood silently victorious.
3. Kabuto vs Samui
Kabuto had fought for years in various clandestine missions for the village, and he wasn't about to lose here. However, Samui of the Kumo team was quick and skilled with her Kenjutsu. Kabuto, known for his intelligence and ability to manipulate situations, struggled against Samui's agility and precision.
Samui managed to counter Kabuto's medical ninjutsu, using her superior speed to avoid his strikes. She landed a decisive blow with her sword to Kabuto's side, sending him to the ground with a heavy thud. Kabuto, unable to keep up with her, was forced to concede.
4. Naruto vs Kiba
Kiba and Naruto stood across from each other in the arena, Kiba grinning widely. "I'll take you down with my enhanced senses and my partner Akamaru!"
Naruto didn't waste time. He summoned several shadow clones in an instant, catching Kiba off guard. Kiba's attacks were wild, relying heavily on Akamaru's support, but Naruto was much faster. With a few well-timed moves, Naruto overwhelmed Kiba's offensive, sending the Inuzuka crashing to the ground.
As Kiba lay on the floor, Naruto walked over and put a hand on his shoulder. "You fought well, but I'm just better right now," Naruto said, offering a smile. Kiba grinned back through his bruised face.
5. Hinata vs Karui
Hinata, her Byakugan activated, stared down Karui, the Kumo kunoichi. Karui's strength was no match for Hinata's ability to read her movements. Hinata was graceful and swift, dodging every one of Karui's strikes and landing a few of her own, knocking Karui back.
Karui, unable to land a single blow on the Hyuga heiress, was forced to retreat, conceding the fight to Hinata, who nodded respectfully to her opponent.
6. Rock Lee vs Gaara
The arena was thick with anticipation as Rock Lee stood ready, his gaze locked onto Gaara. Lee's burning determination was evident in every muscle, every fiber of his being. He had trained his entire life to prove himself, and today was his moment. Across from him, Gaara stood still, his expression emotionless, the gourd on his back swaying slightly. The sand within it rattled ominously, as if it had a life of its own.
The fight began with a sudden rush from Lee. His speed was unbelievable, faster than anyone had expected, his legs a blur of movement as he launched himself toward Gaara. Gaara reacted quickly, his sand moving to form a protective shield around him, but Lee was already on him. With a swift roundhouse kick, Lee shattered the sand shield, forcing Gaara to step back.
Gaara's expression shifted for the first time—there was a hint of irritation. "You're faster than I thought," he said, his voice as cold as ever. "But speed alone won't defeat me."
Lee's eyes narrowed. He wasn't about to back down. He removed the weight from his legs, and the air seemed to crackle with the sheer speed he now possessed. His next attack was so fast it was almost invisible. Gaara barely managed to get his sand shield up in time, but Lee's hits were relentless, cracking through his defenses. Lee's taijutsu was flawless, his strikes landing with brutal force.
But Gaara was no ordinary opponent. He clenched his fists, and the sand around him began to shift, moving in an almost sentient way. With a swift motion, Gaara released a massive sand wave that engulfed Lee, trapping him in a dense cocoon of sand. Lee struggled, using all his strength to break free, but Gaara was quick to raise his gourd.
"Sand Burial," Gaara murmured coldly.
Lee's body was engulfed by the sand, the pressure squeezing him as Gaara's sand crushed him with immense force. Lee struggled to breathe, but the weight of the sand was too much, and he collapsed to the ground, unable to continue.
Gaara stood motionless as his sand receded, his gaze never leaving Lee. "You fought well, but you're no match for me."
7. Tenten vs Temari
The wind whipped through the arena as Temari stepped forward, her fan already unfurled, the gusts around her intensifying. Tenten, known for her mastery of weapons and projectile attacks, was ready to face her opponent. She had studied Temari's wind-based attacks carefully and was prepared to counter them.
Tenten began the battle by unleashing a flurry of kunai and shuriken, each one aimed precisely at Temari. Temari, with a flick of her wrist, used her massive fan to redirect the projectiles with ease. The kunai clattered harmlessly to the ground as Temari laughed softly.
"Is that all you have?" Temari taunted, her fan already raising for her next move.
Tenten's eyes narrowed. She wasn't going to let Temari make a fool of her. She summoned her scrolls, unleashing a barrage of weapons—nunchaku, kunai, and even large explosive tags. Tenten was faster and more precise with her weaponry than anyone could imagine, but Temari's wind was the perfect counter.
With a flick of her fan, Temari created a gust of wind so strong it sent Tenten's weapons flying back at her. Tenten deftly avoided most of them, but the force of the wind knocked her off balance, and Temari pressed the advantage. With another swing of her fan, a massive gust of wind surged forward, knocking Tenten to the ground.
Tenten gritted her teeth and pushed herself up, but she was already running out of options. Temari's wind attacks were overwhelming, and Tenten could no longer keep up with the speed of the battle. With a final swing, Temari unleashed a tornado of wind, lifting Tenten into the air and hurling her across the arena. She crashed to the ground, winded and unable to move.
Temari stood victorious, her fan resting lightly in her hand. "You were a worthy opponent, but wind is my element," she said with a smirk.
8. Kankuro vs Matsuri
Kankuro stepped into the arena, his usual stoic demeanor in place. His puppet, Karasu, was ready, and his eyes scanned Matsuri, the Kumo kunoichi. She didn't seem particularly nervous, but Kankuro had faced many opponents in his time. He wasn't about to underestimate anyone.
Matsuri made the first move, sending a series of kunai toward Kankuro. But Kankuro wasn't about to fight with his bare hands. With a sharp motion, he commanded Karasu to block the incoming projectiles, his puppet's arms moving with incredible precision. Matsuri then activated her own puppetry, summoning a set of three small, fast-moving puppets to swarm Kankuro.
Kankuro's expression remained unchanged as he controlled Karasu to fend off Matsuri's puppets, the mechanical arms and blades clashing in a flurry of sparks. He quickly realized that Matsuri's puppets were fast, but not as well made as Karasu. He countered with a series of quick moves, summoning his other puppet, Kuroari, to trap Matsuri's puppets in a defensive net of wires.
With his superior puppet mastery, Kankuro made quick work of Matsuri's defenses, trapping her remaining puppets and rendering them useless. As Matsuri attempted to regroup, Kankuro moved in for the final strike, his puppets drawing in for the kill. With a series of controlled, pinpoint jabs, he incapacitated Matsuri's last puppet and sealed his victory.
"You're strong," Kankuro said, his tone unchanged. "But you're not on my level yet."
9. Sakura vs Ino
The battle between Sakura and Ino was intense. The two childhood friends turned rivals faced each other with a mix of emotional baggage and competitive spirit. The fight started quickly, with both girls rushing toward each other. Sakura relied on her brute strength and taijutsu, while Ino was more strategic, using her mind jutsu to try and control the flow of the battle.
Sakura launched a punch, but Ino dodged and countered with a kunai to Sakura's side. Sakura grimaced but recovered quickly, charging forward with a powerful slam to the ground, sending a shockwave that made Ino stumble. Ino quickly recovered, using her Mind Body Switch Jutsu to try and take control of Sakura's body, but Sakura was prepared.
She dodged at the last second, evading Ino's jutsu and landing a hard blow to Ino's abdomen. Ino, winded, fought back, using her powerful chakra to try and overpower Sakura's brute strength.
The battle waged back and forth, each girl landing blows on the other. But in the end, both were too evenly matched to gain the upper hand. Their chakra reserves were nearly depleted, and neither could land the final blow. The match was declared a draw.
10. Yugito vs Natsumi
Yugito Nii, the jinchuriki of the Two-Tails, stood across from Natsumi, her eyes filled with intensity. She was known for her control over the powerful chakra of the Nibi, and Natsumi knew she was in for a tough fight.
The battle began with a burst of speed from Yugito, who summoned the power of the Two-Tails and unleashed a barrage of fireballs toward Natsumi. Natsumi was quick to react, dodging the fireballs and summoning her own wind jutsu to deflect the flames.
However, Yugito wasn't done. She unleashed the full power of her tailed beast chakra, transforming briefly into her bijuu form. The arena shook as Natsumi struggled to keep up with the overwhelming force of Yugito's attacks.
Natsumi fought back with everything she had, using her chakra-enhanced wind techniques to try and overwhelm Yugito's powerful flame attacks. But Yugito's power proved too much. With one final blast of Nibi's chakra, Yugito overwhelmed Natsumi, knocking her unconscious.
Yugito stood victorious, but her respect for Natsumi was clear. "You fought well," she said, nodding in acknowledgment.
11. Naruko vs Omoi:
Naruko faced off against Omoi, the Kumo shinobi. Omoi was known for his lightning-fast attacks and his sharp mind, but Naruko had her own advantages. She had mastered her chakra control and had a vast arsenal of jutsu at her disposal.
The battle started with a flurry of kunai and shuriken from both sides. Omoi's speed was on display as he dodged and countered with his own quick attacks. But Naruko wasn't one to be outdone. She summoned a series of Shadow Clones and began attacking with a mix of taijutsu and ninjutsu.
Omoi's lightning attacks were dangerous, but Naruko was able to outsmart him by using her clones as distractions. With a powerful Rasengan, Naruko landed a decisive blow to Omoi, sending him crashing to the ground, unable to continue.
"Not bad," Naruko said with a grin. "But you weren't fast enough."
12. Neji vs Darui
Before the fight Neji says "You should forfit, for I was fated to win this battle."
Darui Replies "I prefer to let my fists do the talking."
The battle between Neji and Darui was a showcase of skill. Neji's Byakugan allowed him to predict Darui's every move, while Darui's lightning -based jutsu and swift attacks kept Neji on his toes.
Darui unleashed a barrage of lightning-enhanced attacks, but Neji skillfully avoided them using his Byakugan and gentle fist techniques. He struck at Darui's chakra points, weakening his opponent's ability to control his chakra.
Despite Darui's strength, Neji's mastery of the Gentle Fist was unparalleled. With a final, pinpoint strike to Darui's chest, Neji knocked him out, winning the fight with his superior technique.
Neji stood tall, his Byakugan's gaze never wavering. "Your strength is commendable, but it was never enough to stand against fate."
