A/N: Timeline/Worldbuilding to set the stage first
The year 1776, Benjamin Franklin's correspondence with Britannia was discovered by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, leading to Benjamin being challenged to a gentleman's duel by Jefferson- much to Adams protest, who won the battle and killed Franklin. This resulted in John Adams being sent in Franklins stead to seal a treaty with the French and win the battle of Yorktown. However the remaining Britannian forces are capable of escaping over the mainland, taking the loyalist population with them and trekking across the continent to the west coast, abandoning their claims on the American colonies.
Over the course of almost 200 years, the United States and Holy Britannian empire would wage a nigh endless war of attrition, with the American continent split almost perfectly in half. Britannia would expand its domain through wars of conquest while the United States secured economic and military pacts with allied nations across the globe. In the modern day, the United States is seen as the ultimate enemy of the Holy Britannian Empire. A beacon of liberty, a bastion of freedom, the arsenal of democracy, and the Vanguard against tyranny. While the Holy Britannian Empire become more and more xenophobic, racist, and authoritarian, the Americans quickly adopted libertarian, populist, and meritocratic policies with a burgeoning civil rights movement that unified all people's as equals.
This story starts in 2010 A.T.B./1960 AD/CE, with the Britannian Military ruthlessly invading Japan before it can sign into law a mutually beneficial alliance with the United States both to stop their hated enemy from obtaining a foothold in the pacific, but also to obtain the massive reserves of sakuradite held within the Island Nation.
U.S. Territories: Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana are their main border states with the Britannian controlled half of the Continental American holdings. They firmly control every state east of those and have granted statehood to Puerto Rico. The U.S. also maintains control of Alaska as their primary pacific naval headquarters which is supplied via express shipping through eastern and northern canadian-held territories as part of the NORAD pact.
U.S. Allies: The U.S. is allied with the Republic of Canada, the European Union, Middle Eastern Federation, The South American Countries not under Britannian control as well as the people of Panama, Iceland, Greenland, Cuba, Ukraine, and Australia. The levels of cooperation and integration of military and economic assistance between the U.S. and its allies varies and shifts but remains overall consistent
Britannian Holdings: Consists of the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas as well as every state west of them and all of Mexico and most of central America. They additionally have control of Hawaii as their primary naval base as well as control of the western countries in south America, and southwestern Canadian territories are currently under military occupation. Parts of Africa are also under their control and Euro-Britannia is still a protectorate of theirs.
The pacific island chain is constantly changing hands between Britannia and the U.S. as they wrestle for dominance, and the Panama Canal is a military hotzone. It is a running office joke in the U.S. that the battle of midway just started; as it routinely changes hands every few weeks. The secretary of defense finds the constant signing of paperwork to allocate resources for the midway campaign to be part of his day-job.
This story can, and will bring up historical figures up to and including those from the 1960's.
Lelouch tiredly walked up the steps of the Kururugi shine. His legs burned like never before, his back arched as he carried Nunnally up the stairs. He heard voices at the top of the hill, Japanese was being spoken, though one of the participants was most definitely foreign given their accent.
Exiled, sent to a foreign land as political pawns on their father's chessboard and nothing more. Lelouch was hurt... scared... and angry. Angry at the injustice done to him, to his sister, and to his mother.
When he finally made it up the stairs, he had to resist falling to his knees as he looked around and saw the man who would be hosting him. Genbu Kururugi was looking down at him from across the yard with a stern, scornful expression. However that was not what caught his eye.
Standing across from him looked to be 3 other individuals who were most certainly not Japanese. 2 of them were men who wore full black suits with red and blue ties, and had sunglasses on as well as earbuds connected to a microphone on their collar. The third person was a woman with brunette hair and reading glasses. And upon seeing him, the woman frowned.
"He sent them here alone?" She asked before realizing that Lelouch was carrying his sister. "For God's sake get the boy some water and get the girl a wheelchair!" She ordered, and the 2 men with her immediately went to silently follow her orders as she briskly walked towards Lelouch, her heels clicking against the ground and kneeling in front of him.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
"I'm fine." He said in a neutral tone, though surprised that someone was showing any sort of concern for him.
"Leave the boy." The Japanese Prime Minister scoffed. "He's a spawn of that monster, he can fend for himse-"
Before he could finish his thought, the woman shot up and snapped her head to face him. "You will not finish that sentence if you want us to continue our discussion, Prime Minister. They are children, have some humanity for Christ's sake!"
Genbu reeled in his distaste and opted to make no further comment on the 2 royal siblings, instead opting to change the subject. "Speaking of, we should probably get back to that. Knowing how the Britannians operate I'd like this deal to be hammered out and made official sooner rather than later."
She sighed, fixing her glasses. "The president wants the same thing, but you know as well as I do that these things take time. It may be months before we can finalize the treaty." She said before stepping away as the 2 men in suits returned, bringing over a wheelchair and bottles of water for both of the children.
Lelouch froze, his body visibly tensing as he reaffirmed his grip on Nunnally. He wasn't ready to let go-
"Hey." The man in the blue tie whispered quietly, kneeling in front of him and taking off his sunglasses. "It's ok, we won't let her get hurt, I swear." He said softly.
Lelouch drank in his words, his purple eyes meeting the hazel of the man in front of him as he slowly relented, turning around and letting the other man man take Nunnally, and he watched as they carefully set her down in the wheelchair they got for her.
The man in the blue tie then offered him a bottle of water which he took and began to chug desperately. The trek up the shrine had been more exercise than he had ever been subjected to before, and he didn't stop drinking until the bottle was empty, leaving him to heave- taking deep gulps of air.
"You alright?" The man questioned Lelouch, who gave a tentative nod.
"Yes." The exiled prince answered anxiously, grateful for the small kindness he was being shown before his eyes caught on to the small pin on the man's lapel, and they focused on a very familiar flag of stars and stripes.
"You're Americans." He whispered, uncertain of how to react. America was Britannia's centuries-old enemy, the 2 powers had been fighting for the better part of 200 years in on-and-off conflicts with eachother.
He had been taught that Americans were savage, bloodthirsty barbarians. Of course he was aware that it was propaganda, but the thoughts still mingled in the back of his mind. Lelouch was smarter than that though, and kept those old lessons locked down as he opened himself up ever so slightly to the man.
"What are you doing here?" He decided to ask.
"Well I'm working with that fine lady over there talking to the prime minister. We're here to secure tighter relations with the Japanese government since we're already friends."
Lelouch frowned. "Nations don't have friends, just investments and interests."
The man tilted his head calmly. "Thats what the Britannians think, but that's not what Americans think." He responded simply. "Do you believe that or are you just repeating what you've been taught?"
Lelouch blinked. "Thats what father always says..." He muttered, his anger apparent as he clenched his fists.
The man regarded Lelouch calmly, and gave a slow nod in response. "You're a good kid, carrying your sister all the way up those steps must've been very hard. That's the dedication of a good big brother."
Lelouch gave his own slow nod in return, relaxing slightly. But before he could say anything more, the man brought a finger up to his ear that had the communicator inside and stood up. "Yeah, I'm on my way." He said as he patted Lelouch on the shoulder, and walked away with his colleague.
The young prince was left with his sister as Nunnally, who remained quiet during the reaction, finally spoke up softly. "That man seemed nice."
Lelouch nodded in agreement. "Yeah." He said simply, before taking Nunnally's wheelchair and pushing her over towards the gardens...
Suzaku was an ass, of this Lelouch was absolutely certain. The boy was brash, rude, stubborn, and very clearly hated him for no other reason than the fact he was Britannian.
Or at least, that was how it used to be. Lelouch had been here for a while now. Weeks? Months? He wasn't entirely sure, though he wasn't at all enthused at first to be in the presence of the Prime Minister's son, the boy seemed to suddenly have a switch flipped in his head. All the bluster of an angry little boy vanished, and Suzaku went from antagonistic and spiteful to kind and gentle, and of course, it all had to do with Nunnally. She was so innocent, so sweet, that Suzaku's wall broke, and the boy became fast friends with both of them from that point onwards.
Suzaku would keep the other Japanese boys from picking on him whenever they went out to explore the markets, and Nunnally enjoyed the orchards most of all.
Unbeknownst to him, he would make a second friend when visiting one such orchard. It was warm summer day like any other when the exiled prince carried Nunnally on his back through a field of peach trees when he ran into someone he didn't expect.
There was a girl around his age there, with red hair and blue eyes. They had nearly ran into eachother, though thankfully they didn't do so literally.
"Um... Hi." He greeted.
"Hi." The little girl said back in English. "Whats your name?"
"Oh, I'm Lelouch, this is Nunnally." He introduced himself turning his body to the side so Nunnally could smile and wave hello.
"Hi!" The princess chirped with a giggled, and Kallen smiled.
"It's nice to meet you! I'm playing hide and seek with my brother, wanna join?" She asked excitedly,
Lelouch grinned, before turning to look at Suzaku who was a few trees down picking peaches.
"Hey Suzaku! Wanna play hide and seek with us?"
The Japanese boy smiled, putting down his basket. "Sure!"
It was a good day, as the childen were allowed to forget about their worries and woes, and just be kids. Lelouch, Nunnally and Suzaku very quickly became fast friends with the redhead girl and her older brother Naoto too. Kallen gave him her mother's phone number so that they could set up times to meet and play together, and the quartet would see eachother almost every day from then on.
Lelouch also noticed something else... for whatever reason, he was being left presents in his room. From who? He couldn't say, though he had his suspicions. The gifts being left for him on his dresser, bed, and nightstand were all of American origin. It started with things like Literature and art that were considered to be banned in Britannia. A great many books, comics that he found himself to enjoy greatly was the tip of the iceberg. But once that had run it's proverbial course, he started getting other things- predominantly music, also of American origin, and he was left in awe and delight by the new sounds and songs that greeted his ears. Lyrics that were spoken with true passion by artists who put their soul into their work. He listened to his favorite songs quite frequently at basically every opportunity.
Then came the big clinchers. The first? A textbook, more specifically, an American history textbook, and it was here that Lelouch got to learn so much more about Britannia's hated enemy. It seemed to fly almost in complete contrast to everything he had been taught.
Freedom, Liberty, Justice, the protection of the people from tyranny through separation of powers, civil rights, equality... he found his imagination lighting up at the ideas he so desperately longed for flowing through him, and when Nunnally expressed an interest in his newfound fascination, he read the book to her- or at least the parts that were safe for her to hear.
But most of all, Lelouch was enamored with George Washington and the founding fathers. He could almost imagine himself by their side, as he poured over every little detail of the American Revolution. From the Boston Tea Party to the battle of Yorktown, and everything in-between. His childlike imagination ran wild thinking of what things were like back then and how brave people stood up against injustice to protect themselves and their loved ones from the strong.
And finally, he got a chessboard, one that was very carefully wrapped, and he quickly found out why. It looked old, but he couldn't be sure how old it was until he found the date of constructuon carved into the bottom of the wooden chest. His heart nearly leapt out of his chest when he saw that it was built in 1790, and was giddy with excitement. Lelouch after all was still a child, and he was unable to contain his joy.
He shared his gift with Kaguya first. The young heir of the Sumeragi household was inquisitive, intelligent, and feisty. The girl was around his age, and had no qualms about losing game after game of chess to him as they spent time together.
The boy was a genius, that much was obvious, but Kaguya just wouldn't give up. And while she never got close to beating him, she did get much better at the games, so much better in fact that the first time she played against Taizo Kirihara in a game of shogi, the old man very nearly lost to her, much to his chagrin.
The old Japanese man liked Lelouch, that much was obvious. The 2 would spend nights together outside gazing at the stars and sharing pots of tea, conversing with one another. They spoke of philosophy and politics, and Lelouch was able to learn a lot, using not just the literature provided but also the wisdom of the grandfatherly man to figure himself out, discovering more about himself as an individual.
The months he spent at the Kururugi shrine ended up being the happiest he had ever been in his life up to that point.
He had made new friends, Nunnally was smiling again, and his life was no longer one that felt... empty. He enjoyed waking up in the morning to goof off, he enjoyed learning new knowledge and discovering himself.
Then, on one fateful day, it all fell apart.
It started like any other. Nunnally was still asleep when Lelouch and Suzaku woke up early one morning, and Lelouch wanted to pick some flowers for Nunnally, so Suzaku helped him climb the hill.
Lelouch was panting, heaving even, but just as he was about to jokingly complain about the exercise when Suzaku froze and stared up in the sky with horror. Lelouch turned, following his friend's gaze to stare up in the sky as dozens and dozens of specks flew through the sky, getting closer as they approached Japan at high speed.
And then came the sirens, their eerie wail echoing through the rolling hills like a spectral omen of death.
"Nunnally!" He shouted, and quickly slid down the very hill he had just finished climbing, fear enveloped him as he ran alongside Suzaku into the shrine and found his sister, quickly waking her up.
"Big brother-! What's wrong?" Nunnally asked, startled.
"There's an emergency." He explained briefly as he helped her out of bed and into her wheelchair. "We have to go!"
Suzaku ran ahead to open the doors for Lelouch as armed soldiers ran around the shrine, the haunting screech of the sirens splitting the air as he got her out of the compound and tried to figure out where to go.
"Come on!" Suzaku shouted, running up next to Lelouch and guiding him to his father's office.
When they arrived, Genbu was on the phone, surrounded by other ministers. They listened in on the conversation.
"-telling you that Tohdoh needs to rally the men! Get the national guard, the army, the navy, the airforce, everyone needs to be on full combat alert. General Katase and Lieutenant Colonel Kusakabe are to prepare for the immediate defense of Tokyo!"
"What about the civilians?" One of the ministers asked hurriedly.
"We follow the evacuation plans agreed upon with the Americans! I don't know how long our forces can hold out! The Japanese people need to survive so we can reclaim our homeland!" He ordered. "Get me the American Ambassador now!"
The ground suddenly rumbled, and the lights flickered, dimming as the emergency backup generators kicked on automatically.
"They must be hitting our power lines!"
"Issue the evacuation order NOW!" The prime minister barked.
"Dad...? Dad I'm scared, what do we do!?" Suzaku spoke up and Genbu turned around, his gaze locking onto the children.
"You need to get to safety, I'll arrange for a squad to transport you far away from here, head towards the utility entrance to the northeast of the shrine and wait there for a car to pick you up, understand?"
"Father- what about you?"
"I need to stay here and help the military. I am samurai, son, and so are you. Do not forget that." He said before his face hardened. "Now get moving! Pack up the essentials as quickly as you can and go where I told you!"
"But Dad-!"
"Thats an order boy!"
Suzaku flinched, and nodded, grabbing Lelouch and Nunnally and rushing them out of the office...
US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Military base · Ketchikan, Alaska.
"What are our options people, come on!"
The command center of the port authority was in chaos as various staff officers and members of admiralty scrambled to respond. The invasion of Japan had begun sooner than expected, far, far too soon. The American Pacific Fleet was already engaged across the Canadian coast and island chain with the Britannian Navy, it had barely anything to spare to run convoy escorts, but it would have to make due as calls were placed and communications sent down the pipeline.
"All we got are a collection of old hulls that have been refurbished, thats all that can be spared within the Anchorage." An officer replied to the Admiral. "Most of them date from the first pacific war, the only modern vessels at our disposal is a United States class Supercarrier at half air wing capacity, and a Squadron of modern Destroyers."
"Fuck!" The Admiral cursed. "Are they combat ready?"
"They're repaired and refueled sir, and their crews are on standby."
The Admiral bit his lip, looking out the window of the observation tower at the cold Alaskan waters.
"Do it."
"Aye sir!" The man replied before quickly jogging over to the intercom. "Attention! Attention! All forces to combat alert! Prepare for immediate departure, mission is convoy escort for civilian refugees! I want engines running on U.S.S. Alaska, U.S.S. Iowa, U.S.S. Illinois, U.S.S. Washington, U.S.S. Pennsylvania, U.S.S. Maine, U.S.S. Baltimore, U.S.S. Witchataw, U.S.S. Anchorage, U.S.S. Bremerton, U.S.S. Boise, U.S.S. Yorktown-!"
As the names of the ships kept being sounded off, the Admiral leaned over his desk and closed his eyes. Chester Nimitz prayed that it was enough.
Kallen woke up to the scariest sound she had ever heard. Her eyes blinking open as she confusedly listened to the high pitched wails of sirens before her mother burst into her room, a panicked look on her face.
"Mom-?" Kallen asked as her mother picked her up out of bed and carried her.
"We have to leave sweetie, daddy is getting the car ready, just hold on to me! Naoto grab the safe out of my room!" She called out across the house as she ran downstairs with Kallen being held tight in her grip. She watched as their father quickly packed food, clothes, and documents.
"I have family on the east coast, in New York. As soon as we make it to Alaska we can ride through public transport through Canada and be somewhere safe. Kallen and Naoto have dual Japanese and U.S. citizenship so they'll be fine. We'll just need to get you taken care of." Joseph Stadtfeld said as he ran over to his wife and took Kallen into his arms. "Did you grab their birth certificates?" He asked.
"Yes! Yes right over here!"
Kallen was left perplexed and worried as she hugged her father tightly. "Daddy-?"
"It's ok pumpkin, there's some bad people doing some very bad things but we'll get to safety before they can hurt us- which stuffed animal is your favorite?" He asked.
"Um... Oscar?"
"Right- which one is Oscar?" He asked as he packed water bottles into a cooler and grabbed some chips out of the cabinet with one hand while holding Kallen with the other arm.
"My bear, the big one."
"Ok pumpkin." He said before turning his head towards the kitchen exit, by the stairs. "Naoto grab Kallen's bear from her bedroom please!"
"Got it!" Kallen heard her brother shout from upstairs, she heard him running around before stomping down the stairs, holding a lockbox under one arm and Kallen's old stuffed bear under the other.
Kallen was set down on the counter by her father as he started grabbing bags and suitcases. "Stay right here ok pumpkin, I'm gonna load up the car, don't move unless your mother tells you to." He said before jogging out of the kitchen and towards the side entrance where the driveway was located, and Kallen sat anxiously on the counter as she watched her family pack. She hugged herself as she quietly sat there in silence. The only other noise she could hear was the wailing of the sirens.
Her father came back in to grab the last few things as her brother and mother went out to the car, and he grabbed her, setting her down on the floor and holding her hand after giving his daughter her favorite bear and walking her out to the family car.
He opened the door for her and she got in, and then put her seat belt on like she had learned and held her bear tight, it was almost as big as her.
She watched out the windows as the car sped out of the driveway and onto the streets, and she watched as the Japanese people seemed to be doing the same thing, running out of her homes carrying bags, pets and children, and the awful sound of those sirens seemed to only get louder.
The radio was turned on, but Kallen couldn't understand much of what was being said. The announcer was rattling off instructions, something about evacuation routes? And warnings to avoid the east coast and head towards the Shimokita Peninsula.
Then Kallen peered out of her window and into the sky as she heard strange noises, and planes flew overhead... followed by explosions that made Kallen and her mother scream as the car shook and the windows shuddered from the Shockwaves of the blast emanating from the hospital. Her brother reached over to hug her tight as her father stepped on the gas...
Lelouch held Nunnally tight while Suzaku sat anxiously in the other passenger seat in the back of the car. A pair of japanese soldiers were trying to escort them to the Evacuation zone, but it seemed like that wasn't going to be the case. The Britannians bombed the main roads and railway lines, forcing many people to flee on foot and take alternate modes of transportation. The car that was meant to take them to safety was stuck behind miles and miles of unmoving traffic.
"Kuso!" The soldier in the driver's seat smacked the steering wheel before getting out of the car, and the soldier in the passenger seat did the same, opening the doors for the kids to get out, and one of the soldiers grabbed Nunnally's wheelchair from the back seat.
They ran down the empty streets, past piles and piles of cars all abandoned and through alleyways, the sounds of helicopters, fighter jets, gunfire and explosions seemed to be coming their way, and they ran as quickly as they could away from it all. The only way to know they were going the right way was the fact one of the soldiers had a map that he was reading directions off of as they sprinted from cover to cover.
They were halfway down an alleyway when the sound of jet engines got much louder, and the soldiers pushed the children up against the brick wall, crouching low behind a dumpster as a massive humanoid robot dropped from the sky and landed with a resounding crack, breaking up the concrete of the road it tread upon as it's anchors unhooked from the dropship that carried it and they were pulled back into the machine's shoulder plates.
They all watched, terrified as the machine walked down the road with resounding thuds, the whirring of machinery accompanying every little movement, the clicking of motors and hissing of pistons as it scanned the area, before a pair of wheels deployed like roller-skates and it quickly raced down the road.
Lelouch swallowed hard, his mouth having gone dry at the sight of the Knightmare. But the soldiers didn't let their fear get to them. The leader of the group very slowly poked his head out, walking towards the exit of the alley and looked down both sides of the road, before waving for the others to follow, and they quickly did so.
By the time they got to their destination, the sun was starting to set. The soldiers brought them to the only place that was possibly even remotely safe for the children to hide
They areived at Ashford Academy, where Ruben himself was waiting at the gates, a phone to his ear while his granddaughter watched from the inner courtyards alongside their maid, Sayoko.
"He's here-! Yes, yes thank you, good luck, goodbye!" Ruben said before hanging up and jogging over to them. "Hurry, come inside quickly!" He ushered them in, but the soldiers refused, to stay, and began to run towards the combat zone, Leaving Lelouch, Nunnally, and Suzaku with the Ashdord Family. Ruben helped them in getting the kids someplace safe as the war raged ever closer to the Academy.
Lelouch was hugging Nunnally the whole time, and he never let go.
The car ran out of gas, and Joseph Stadtfeld was kicking himself for it, the family car ran dry a couple miles short of the evacuation zone, and had no choice to leave most of their things in their car, bringing only the bare essentials that they could carry with them in their hands. Kallen was huffing, panting and out of breath. Even being the athletic little kid she was, she didn't have the sheer endurance to keep up, with the pace they needed to have. So Kallen's mother Hina made the decision to drop her bag of clothes and pick up her daughter, carrying the little girl and her teddy bear in their arms as they ran as fast as they could.
The sun was setting, casting an eerie orange-pink glow over the horizon as the Stadtfeld family made it to the evacuation zone. Running up on the harbor where they came across a checkpoint being run by the japanese military with a long line ahead of them, the officer manning the post examined the papers offered to him for identification before letting the group pass and letting the next one approach. The wait was an agonizing one for a while, but after about half an hour, the officer went into his shack to pick up the phone that had begun to ring on his desk, and after a few brief moments he dropped the call, grabbing his gun and running towards the intercom, barking orders to mobilize. Within moments, dozens of Japanese soldiers rushed out from their positions holding their weapons and ran in the direction the refugees were coming from. The sounds of war were drawing closer, and the refugees began to run past the now unmanned checkpoints, starting to panick, the sounds of shouting rippling through the massive crowds of civilians as they ran into the evacuation area.
In the distance, they saw ships approaching over the horizon, tons of them. Helicopters started coming in from that same direction, having been launched from the approaching fleet, and Kallen's father looked up, sighing with relief.
"Blackhawks, it's ok, it's ok those are American, not Britannian." He said comfortingly as the choppers came in, deploying American Marines on the outer perimeter of the evac zone. The soldiers tossed candy bar rations to the kids, including one soldier who stopped to give his to Kallen, ruffling her hair before he was called over to man the defenses, and the marine quickly hoofed it over to join his unit along with countless others. A full company had been deployed, and small amphibious landing ships had deployed on the outskirts of the Evac zone, M1 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradleys, Humvees, and MRAPS driving up from the shoreline and moving into defensive positions.
A Commanding officer climbed up onto the roof of the tank and began to shout orders in Japanese.
"Attention everyone! Please remain calm, the transport ships will be here soon! We will protect you! Do. Not. Panic! Everyone will be allowed 1 large bag or personal item per person, we need to conserve space to save as many people as possible! If you have more than the allotted amount please consolidate your personal items to fit regulations!" As he gave these orders, the Marines began making their positions as defensible as possible, using whatever they could find laying around to make cover positions, using entrenchment tools to dig foxholes, and marksmen climbing onto the roofs along with Anti-tank and Mortar teams. More helicopters kept flying in, deploying ever more troops to the front line including several special forces fireteams that ran straight into the wilderness to join the Japanese defenders.
The civilian refugees began to follow his instructions, trying to fit as many personal effects into their allotted bags as possible while the U.S. fleet drew closer, the black specks beginning to become more and more visible until the sun finally dropped below the horizon, and darkness began to fall.
Finally, the ships started to arrive, but as they did, so did the war. (edited)
Z3R0 — Today at 11:18 PM
The gunfire and sound of explosions had been getting closer, and now it almost felt like they were right on top of them. Knightmare frames suddenly started charging over the hills, and through tree lines, making a beeline right for the American defenders and the refugees they were protecting.
"Major... what the fuck are those!?" One of the lieutenants asked from his position.
"The fuck if I know but it doesn't matter, they're brit bitches now Light em up! Throw everything at those assholes now!"
The first wave of Glasgows hit the defenses like the tides washing over stone. The Britannians clearly didn't expect further resistance, and started getting chewed up by the Americans. The highly accurate cannons of the American tanks were like can openers, with single long-range shots being enough to completely obliterate the lightly armored cavalry mechs with direct hits, blowing them to pieces. This was followed by TOW missiles, and Bazooka fire from the Bradleys and infantry on the rooftops, obliterating the first wave.
But with Britannia, there was always more.
Artillery fire started coming down on the american positions as Britannian Marines, tanks, and more knightmares came charging in, and a hellish firefight started taking place as tracer fire lit up the sky. Attack helicopters performed gun runs on enemy positions on both sides, and long range cruise missiles came in from the U.S. fleet to rain down on the Britannian offensive alongside close air support from FA/18's throwing ATGM's and JDAM's at the invaders while the refugees kept piling onto the American transport vessels.
Kallen clutched her bear tightly as her mother held onto her tightly, trying to cover her ears as the smell of sulfer, the rattling of gunfire, and the flash of explosions and tracers filled the air. The little girl began to cry in terror as she heard the screams of anguish from the desperate defenders trying to protect them.
Hina was stopped as she tried to follow her husband and son by one of the men running the evacuation. "I'm sorry ma'am but this ship is out out of room, you'll have to get on the next one!"
"But that's my son and husband!"
"Ma'am please just remain calm, you'll be able to see them as soon as you get to safe harbor." The man said, forcing Hina to step back and watch as her husband and son got onto the boat without them. Joseph tried to protest and get off the boat once he realized what was happening but he was forced to get back from the ramp as the ship immediately started to leave, and another one started pulling in to replace it.
Kallen and Hina got onto the next ship, her mother running up the ramp with Kallen still firmly in her arms. They stayed on the top deck, heading to the back as quickly as possible to see if they could catch a glimpse of Joseph and Naoto on the deck of the other transport, but to no avail.
Their attention was drawn back to the shore as the battle seemed to grow more intense, the screams of the dying soldiers came like a haunting echo as more Knightmares charged into the defenders with missiles blowing them to pieces, but American casualties were quickly mounting on the rapid onslaught.
Their transport left next, following behind the first one as more and more ships came to pick up as many survivors as they could, with vessels coming around the peninsula flying American flags.
As their ship got out into open waters, the direness of the situation became clear. The American fleet was directly engaging the much larger Britannian Armada, and it was like something out of a war documentary. Cruise missiles were being flung left and right through the night skies as tracer fire from CWIS weapons shot down incoming projectiles, and the screech of jet engines and rockets remained constant. Britannian and American fighters were engaged in an all-out battle for air dominance, while refurbished and modernized battleships and cruisers launched salvo after salvo of missiles from VLS Cells, Anti-Air SAM's fired off and gun batteries seemed to fire as fast as they could reload. The Shockwaves of the primary weapons aboard the battleships firing GPS guided munitions hammered away at the Britannian forces with the sound of thundercracks and flashes bright as lightning. The stench of spent cartridges and oil became permanent.
But as the Britannian fleet began to concentrate it's efforts on the Americans interfering in their invasion, it was only a matter of time that something slipped through, as a salvo of Britannian anti-ship missiles broke through the anti-air network and struck the U.S.S. Maine, causing a catastrophic magazine detonation as explosions ripped right through the steel hull and broke it in half, fire and smoke erupting from the doomed vessel as it snapped like a toothpick and thousands of sailors met a grizzly end with dozens of men jumping into the water to put out the flames engulfing their bodies...
Kallen watched, and she cried as the fires illuminated her face, the hellish inferno reflected in her watering blue eyes as she watched it burn.
The American fleet seemed to return fire with ruthless vengeance as the guns of the Illinois and Iowa rotated to face the Britannian fleet and gave them full salvos. The deafening roar of the massive guns nearly made Kallen go deaf with violent ringing in her ears as Britannian warships began exploding in the far distance, blips of orange flames popping up as the 2 naval forces traded blows with each other.
Hell had come to Japan, and Kallen had a front row seat.
Lelouch stood on the roof, night had fallen over Japan, but that didn't mean a damn thing as he and Suzaku watched Tokyo burn. The screaming had died down, but the flames raged on, lighting up the city.
Lelouch watched, and Suzaku saw the fists of his best friend ball up in rage.
How dare they?
He had found his happiness again, and Britannia ripped it away from him, they shot it dead.
The little boy clenched his teeth, his body trembling with fury.
"Suzaku... I swear..." He began. "I swear, I will obliterate Britannia!"
AN: Allllllrighty so that was an interesting little spark of inspiration I had. I hope you all enjoyed this exploration into a very interesting what-if and if you did, let me know!
Some things to cover:
1. This story is not at all meant to reflect the real world, I just thought America vs Britannia was really fuckin cool and of course, Ideally, the U.S. are the good guys trying to stop the evil empire from murdering and enslaving everyone. That being said there's probably going to be a lot of "America, fuck yeah!" stuff in here and if that's something you find distasteful then I'm afraid this story is not for you, savvy?
2. Pairings: Kalulu as always is my main, but C.C., will all be part of the polyamory relationship with Lelouch in the triangle. Side pairing of eventual SuzaEuphie and maybe a few others, We'll see.
3. Lelouch is canonically obsessed with Washington and the attempted American Revolution so I don't think him being America-pilled by CIA spooks trying to set him up as an asset is off the table.
