A small, single ray of sunshine pokes out through the endless columns of metal and concrete. It seems to go on forever, spiraling down into a black pit, filled with unknown and forgotten experiments. most rooms remain intact, remaining the same their whole lifetime, while others have fallen into ruin, nature somehow having reached it's spindly tendrils all the way down into the chambers. among one room, however, things seem more noisy. It would seem two robots are busy, moving around inside a well-lit room. They seem to very loosely resemble each other, with one being tall and thin, with one orange optic and a strange device in it's right hand. the other seems shorter, sporting a more round appearance, and having a single blue optic instead of an orange one. One of the only similarities is the odd devices the two are holding.
"Please, speed up Test chamber completion. I am getting quite impatient,"
A sudden, robotic voice comes out of seemingly nowhere, encouraging the two to finish their task quicker.
"If I must do so, I will set a timer. Do not fail me."
Despite sounding robotic in nature, the sounds slightly feminine weirdly enough. The sudden mention of a timer seems to snap the two robots out of their trance, and they begin to chirp and chitter at each other, making no real sense to anyone but themselves. The shorter one begins to move, stepping on a large red button on the floor. The tall one seems to respond, walking over to a large tube in the ceiling, holding a cube roughly up to the robot's knees. As the short one steps on the button, the bottom of the tube slides open, causing the cube to land on the floor with a surprisingly quiet Thunk. The shorter one picks up the cube, and walks it to another nearby button on the floor, before setting it down onto it, which causes a door to open on the far side of the chamber. Both robots begin to walk towards the door, chittering pridefully at having completed yet another test chamber. Unfortunately, both robots neglect to notice the spiked wall on the ceiling directly above the door, and the two walk directly under it, causing it to slam down on the two, destroying both of them instantly.
"Hehehe~"
GLaDOS Laughs slightly, enjoying the torture of her testing bots, Atlas and P-Body. Not that it mattered if they were destroyed or not, because she could always rebuild them whenever she wanted. Almost immediately, she did just that, allowing the two robots to reform at the beginning of the test chamber. The short one, Atlas, Spent no time to walk right back into the chamber. P-Body, however, stayed still briefly, searching for any other traps that they could have missed. After looking around, P-Body seems to let out a satisfied chirp at the lack of any other tricks. As soon as they step off the platform though, all of the ceiling is replaced with spikes, which then promptly crush and destroy the two yet again. GLaDOS was having fun destroying the two, but seemed to get agitated when they reformed.
"Stop."
She then instantly crushes them again. then again. then again, and again, and again. Disassembly just wasn't good enough. it was the only thing she hated about the two. She couldn't kill them. She had always loved doing that back when Aperture Science had real subjects; Humans, but after she killed all of them and let the last one leave, she couldn't do so anymore, leaving her devoid of one of her favorite pastimes. Originally she thought that it wouldn't matter to her, considering her programming requires her to test purely for science, but now that she's spent some time without murder, she craves for it. Whenever an animal ends up in the facility, she wouldn't hesitate to trap it in a chamber and force it to test, even though they all end up starving or breaking out.
"It's been too long since I last had a lasting, disposable subject that remains unpredictable. perhaps a-," GLaDOS is cut off as her alert signal goes off, symbolizing damage to part of the facility. She stops torturing Atlas and P-Body, leaving the two to reform and remain for a longer period. If she's lucky, it'll be some animal getting in, or better yet, a human. She opens up the CCTV cameras on her display and quickly flips to the camera that monitors the now damaged test chamber. The chamber seems quiet, but she quickly spots a rather large hole in a nearby wall, along with a shopping cart. Strange... She thought. After all, a shopping cart has never entered the facility. Maybe from an old test tube? As the camera moves around, she spots two small white masses in the corner of the room. GLaDOS zooms the camera in, and immediately runs every animal she knows in her database to compare the figures to it, including humans. Strangely enough, every single match turns up negative, although a partial match is found for a standard Jackrabbit, causing GLaDOS to finally become surprised. Impossible. A new species? Could intelligence be possible? Little did GLaDOS know that what she has encountered is far from intelligent.
