INJUSTICE: PEACE AMONG US

(Disclaimer all rights belong to DC Comics. I own nothing.)

(Inspired by Injustice Gods Among Us video games and comics.)

Hello everyone, this is my first attempt at writing a DC fanfiction. I'm a DC Comics fan and it's my favorite genre of superheroes overall. I'm also a huge fan of the Injustice Gods Among Us games. I love the storyline in both games as well as the prequel comics. However, despite my love for the series there are some things I don't like about Injustice. The main one is how Wonder Woman is depicted in the story. I don't have a problem with Diana being a villain in an alternate universe. The Justice League episode "A Better World" is a good example of that. But in the case with Injustice, it doesn't always work for me. Realistically Wonder Woman would never join Superman's Regime, because logically she would work with Batman's Insurgency. It's important to remember that Diana was taught by the Amazons to be an ambassador of peace and love, because that's what she represents as a member of the Justice League. Yes, Wonder Woman is an Amazon warrior, but she's also a person that believes in helping people with compassion. That's why I came up with this idea for my fanfiction. To not only write a DC story, but to redeem Wonder Woman's character while also giving my own take on the Injustice series. My main goal is to stay true to the source material while also write coherently as much as I can to improve as a writer. So, without further ado enjoy the first chapter of my story.

CHAPTER 1: PROLOGUE

Fortress of Solitude

Diana Prince knew there was no turning back. She was more than ready to face him alone. One way or another Superman's reign of terror ends today, all of it. Diana wasn't afraid, because for the first time in five years she truly believed she was doing the right thing. It took her a long time to finally, come to the realization on her own even after all the horrible things she had done. Looking back now, Diana wished she'd never joined Superman's Regime or help him do all the awful things they had done to the world. She not only subjugated kingdoms and nations, but she also hunted down other heroes who opposed the One Earth Regime. Wonder Woman betrayed everything she once stood for when she joined Kal-El's Regime. Diana even went as far as to dishonoring both her honor and right as an Amazon, thus betraying everything her mother and sisters taught her on Themyscira. Diana felt nothing but shame and guilt in that moment when reflecting on her past actions. She truly regretted all she had done and hated the person she became. That is why she is doing this, to not only redeem herself as an Amazon, but to also make things right and atone for her crimes. Diana must do this, she needs to do this if she is ever going to forgive herself for all the horrible things she had done.

In that same moment Diana received an incoming transmission from Batman. Diana didn't hesitate to answer as she responded through her earpiece.

"Bruce what's wrong?" Wonder Woman asked calmly

"Diana where are you?" Batman asked with concern

Diana could tell by Bruce's voice that he was worried for her safety, and she didn't blame him. Diana was about to face Superman and she couldn't lie to Batman on what was doing.

"I'm luring Superman away from the battle to the Fortress of Solitude. I'm going to stop him, Bruce." Diana explained

Batman tried his best to remain calm, but he had trouble when realizing what Diana was doing.

"Diana no it's too dangerous!" Batman replied

"I have to Bruce, it's the only way to end this." Diana said

"No, it's not, there's always another way. We can fight him together. You don't need to face Clark alone." Batman explained

"I'm not letting anyone else die, because of me Bruce. I'll never forgive myself if anything happened to you or the others." Diana said, trying to fight back tears in her eyes.

Batman couldn't hold his emotions back anymore and was now begging Diana to retreat before it's too late.

"Diana listen to me, you don't need to do this. You've done more than enough to redeem yourself. If this is about your guilt, I told you none of this is your fault. You can't blame yourself for what Clark became. You know that and I know that." Batman pleaded at this point.

"I know Bruce, but I am just as much to blame for how Kal-El turned out as he is. If it wasn't for me, maybe he could've been saved. In many ways I failed him, I failed Superman. And the only way I can ever forgive myself is by confronting my own failure. I must do this Bruce. I must be the one to stop him." Diana explained as she let the tears fall down her cheeks.

Batman knew deep down there was no way he was going to talk Diana out of this. As he regained his composure while flying the Batwing, he needed to say something to her before it was too late.

"Whatever happens, promise that you'll comeback to me." Batman said

Diana took a deep breath not wanting to sound sad but determined to keep her promise.

"I promise." Diana said

Batman was relieved to hear that even though he was still concerned for her safety.

"Bruce, I want you to know that no matter what I love you." Diana said

Batman did not hesitate to respond.

"I love you too Diana, I always have." Bruce replied

Diana smiled, wishing she could say more, but she knew now was not the time. In that moment she heard something coming from outside the Fortress. Diana knew it was Superman. It was time to face him and put an end to this nightmare once and for all.

"He's here, I have to go, Wonder Woman out." Diana said ending the transmission

Batman wanted to say something but knew that Diana had already turned off her earpiece. Which meant that she was about fight Superman. Bruce couldn't stand by while Diana faced him on her own. He knew what Clark was capable. Without any hesitation Batman quickly contacted reinforcements.

"Batman to The Insurgency, Wonder Woman is luring Superman to the Fortress of Solitude. We'll need all the backup we can get. I repeat anyone from The Insurgency that is not in battle please hurry." Batman said hoping his message will get out to everyone.

Bruce doesn't doubt Diana can fight Superman on her own. He knows Diana is a remarkable woman and a powerful warrior capable of handling herself. He's witnessed her defeat foes greater than Superman. Bruce has even seen Wonder Woman fight Clark in the past, especially during the last five years. But if anything were to happen to Diana, he would never forgive himself. That's why he's calling everyone in The Insurgency to help before it's too late. Just when it seemed like the message didn't go through Batman finally, got a response.

"Green Lantern to Batman, we're on our way." Hal said

Batman sighed in relief and was glad that Hal got his message.

"Thanks Hal, I'm on my way to the Fortress. Batman out." Batman said as he set coordinates for the Fortress of Solitude.

"Hang on Diana I'm coming." Bruce thought to himself.

Superman had arrived at the Fortress of Solitude. He was fuming with anger as he used his X-Ray Vison to search high and low for Wonder Woman. He wanted nothing more than to destroy her after she betrayed him and left the Regime. In that moment he let his anger get the better of him and started yelling at the top of his lungs.

"WHERE ARE YOU DIANA?!" Clark yelled

He tried to regain his senses, but it was no use. He was boiling mad at this point and was more than ready to tear down his Fortress to find her.

"I KNOW YOU'RE HERE DIANA! YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM ME! COME OUT AND FACE ME!" Clark demanded

And as luck would have it, he heard a familiar voice from behind.

"I'm right here Kal." Diana said

Superman saw Wonder Woman with her sword and shield, prepared for battle. She stood a few feet away from him with an intimidating glare. Still feeling paranoid Superman broke the silence and asked the obvious question.

"This your idea of setting a trap for me Diana?" Superman asked

"No Kal, I brought you here so I can put an end to your reign of terror once and for all." Diana said with determination

Superman didn't know whether to be impressed or threatened by Diana's words, but he could tell she was serious.

"You're a fool if you think you can defeat me. You should've brought Bruce and the others with you." Superman replied

Hearing him say that made Diana angry. She knew Kal would try and threaten Bruce and her friends. But she wasn't going to let that happen. Diana won't let Superman hurt anyone anymore.

"I'm not letting anyone else die, because of me Kal. This battle is between you and me." Diana said

"So that's how it's going to be?" Superman asked

"That is how it must be, this ends today. All of it." Diana said

"You maybe strong Diana, but my power is still unrivaled." Superman said as his eyes started glowing red.

"That maybe true, but you face the Goddess of War." Diana said as she readied herself in a fighting stance.

"Are you going to kill me Diana?" Superman asked as he clenched his fists with anger

"Only one way to find out Kal. Bring it on!" Diana said

Superman didn't want to admit it, but her words sent a chill down his spine. He wasn't afraid of Diana, but the determination in her voice really made him question if he can defeat her. Sure, he's faced countless beings who were much stronger than him such as Doomsday, Darkseid, and Mongul just to name a few. But Diana was different, she was an Amazon, a Princess trained to be a warrior with the powers of a God. And although he's fought her before in the past, those were only during training sessions back when they were the Justice League. Back when things were simpler. But those days are over. Superman wasn't going to let anyone stand in his way, not even Wonder Woman.

The two starred at each other for a few seconds before both engaged in battle. The Princess of the Amazons and the Man of Steel charged at each other as this was going to be battle to the end. A fight that would determine the fate of the Earth. Diana wasn't going to let Bruce or her friends down. She must stop Superman at all costs. And this battle would decide that once and for all. The Son of Krypton vs The Amazon of Themyscira.
