Hiatus - Pending Rewrite
Hi and thank you to all of those who supported this story.
Unfortunately, four stories at once was a bit too ambitious. They were beginning to cut into not only each other but also real life. While I do still love the idea of an Overlord SI where someone is reborn and chooses to defend the New World from Nazarick, this is also the most poorly written of my stories. I am just not satisfied with the premise, especially since the more I think about it, the better Lakyus seems as a potential love interest (more from lack of options than anything else). Vaylin being her cousin just makes me uncomfortable though. This is not ASOIAF.
I will be revisiting the New World at a later date, either through a rewrite of this story or once the MC of my BG3 story On the Edge of Eternity realizes he's a Planeswalker and manages to win the game. Until that time, you'll have to get your fill of political intrigue from Legacy of Iron and fantasy from Edge of Eternity. The fantasy elements of Overlord are almost all based on D&D or Pathfinder anyway, so it shouldn't be too much of a switch.
For those curious, the general plot was going to be that Vaylin finds out he has a hidden class. All information on it and its abilities would be blacked out until he unlocks it. The only ability he sees immediately would be called something like enhanced growth and would give him a 100x multiplier for his XP. He would try to level this up and gradually unlock more features while adjusting to his new life, adventuring, fighting "relatively" powerful enemies, and dealing with petty politics. He would try to reform his kingdom and even make alliances in preparation for Nazarick. Eventually, he realizes just what his hidden class is (World Enemy). It was the only thing I could think of that would make him powerful enough to stand a realistic chance against Nazarick, and yet he still might lose.
I don't know, maybe an insert as a canon character, like Jircniv right after he became Emperor would be better.
In response to some of the reviews questioning my estimation of Nazarick as a threat. Sure, some of the Dragon Lords are powerful enough to face players and win. However, Nazarick has several advantages that the other players did not.
The greatest number of level 100 players to arrive in the New World at once before was the Eight Greed Kings who almost drove the Dragon Lords to extinction. Nazarick has Ainz, plus 10 level 100 NPCs. That's 11, almost half again as many as the Eight Greed Kings, plus all of the other NPCs who are at the same level as GodKin or at least in the Realm of Heroes. Combine this with the fact that the Dragon Lords' greatest advantage was Wild Magic and that Wild Magic is neutralized by possessing a World Item... they're pretty much screwed. Nazarick had 11 World Items when it was transported, and almost immediately got some new ones by slaughtering the Black Scripture.
This is all in addition to the fact that they are being led by Ainz, who is not only incredibly intelligent but also a paranoid bastard. As soon as he knew that someone else possessed World Items in the New World, he started equipping the Floor Guardians with them. He has Demiurge sending out invisible spies everywhere constantly looking for intel. If anyone is going to learn the specific weaknesses of the Dragon Lords, it's him.
Finally, let's not forget that with the Great Tomb of Nazarick and a special box that converts items into Yggdrasil money, the NPCs can be resurrected an effectively infinite number of times. So, even if one of them dies, Ainz will just learn from the loss, bring them back, and send them out again with a better plan. Short of World Enemies, I don't think there are even any future threats they would need to worry about as any new group of players or NPCs would be easily slaughtered.
For the Deep Darkness Dragon Lord specifically, whatever his super-powerful attack is, it supposedly would not work on Gargantua or Shaltear. From this, we can assume that it is probably either mind magic or death magic, both of which would probably be resisted by a magical construct or undead. It is also almost certainly a Wild Magic technique, meaning it would be completely useless against anyone equipped with a World Item.
