The school bell was the call to class for all students on the UA school campus after lunch. And so when almost the entire group from one most famous class returned, they all noticed their class cinnamon bun sitting by the window on the second desk.

It was a guy with green curls over black roots. He had freckles on one side of his face and the outside of his palms were covered in light colored scars.

When everyone was seated and the teacher was about to arrive, two of his friends were about to wake him up. And the first was a girl with short brown hair, on whose cheeks there is an unceasing blush.

She reached out to his shoulder with her hand with padded fingers.

???: Hey, Deku. The teacher is already sko-.

Before she could even finish a word, she was one of the witnesses to her hand being grabbed and taken in a tight grip. In the eyes of others, Deku's boyfriend quickly plopped her down on a neighboring desk and pinned her head with his hand.

???: ouch, that hurt!

Deku found himself at a loss as he started looking in all directions and looking around the classroom. A spark suddenly flashed in his eyes and he jumped away from the girl with a squeak.

Deku: I'm sorry U-Uraraka! I didn't mean to do that! It's just that I... well... uh...

The guy started waving his hands, trying to find an excuse for his actions. However, the girl didn't care as she was now stroking her hand.

Uraraka: it's nothing like that, Deku. Aizawa-sensei would probably do the same thing to anyone if his sleep was disturbed.

Deku: but still-

Slam!

The door to the classroom opened abruptly and a long-haired and sleepless vagabond appeared on the doorstep. At the sight of him, everyone immediately sat back in their seats, except Deku.

The supposed sensei of the class glanced at the boy, noticing how he was clutching the area of his arm where he had a compress under his clothes.

Considering that he was almost unable to recover from the difficult events, Aizawa walked over to his desk.

Aizawa: sigh Midoriya, if you're still having a hard time, you can stay in the dormitory for today after visiting the nurse. However, you'll only accumulate yourself twice as much work for doing so. We won't have any combat training today.

Midoriya lowered his head and his hair covered his eyes.

Midoriya: yes, sensei.

No one in this room ever caught on that his voice was as playful as his whole persona. As the guy picked up his yellow backpack and walked out the door, he hooked his hand into its strap.

Midoriya: (so that means it happened...)

After visiting the school's nurse, who is also one of her supports, Midoriya returned to the dormitory and quickly went to his room.

The only place where the headmaster himself with his cameras wouldn't be able to follow him.

And once he was in it, he roughly threw his backpack at the wall and hit it with his fist several times, leaving a dent.

Disappointment and regret was directly written on his face with tears streaming down his cheeks.

Midoriya: sorry... sorry... sorry...

His gaze went to the ceiling, falling to his knees at the time.

Midoriya: I failed...

Midoriya's hand gripped his chest as he let out a guttural scream through his other hand. The pain in his heart was drowning out all of his feelings inside along with his fatigue.

Midoriya: (Sayami... Tokita... Hengei... sorry I couldn't do it...).

Images of people who had fallen from something arose in his mind and he only cried harder.

Midoriya: but why... why did I have to be the one to... to get this skill?

Something in him watched as the boy began to break. The green lightning bolt from the obvious sign of his quirks working was some sort of example of that.

Then at that moment, Izuku felt some strange but affectionate sensation around his neck. It was as if a care had been rushed to him to comfort the pain.

It only helped him to gather his thoughts. Midoriya wiped away his tears and slammed his fist against the floor.

Midoriya: right, I can't just give up so easily after everything I went through out there...

After calming his breathing and heartbeat, he sat down at the chair against the bed and started going over everything that had happened in his head.

Midoriya: okay, Izuku. Calm down. Think you just know how in a few months there's going to be a world catastrophe where you'll be the last survivor of the entire school, neighborhood... and all of Musutafu.

Pushing the dark thoughts aside, he remembered something and jumped up from his chair.

Izuku: I'm so empty-headed.

He punched a pectoral muscle and a panel appeared in front of him.

Name: Izuku Midoriya

Quirk: Growth Enhancement, One for All.

Speed: 6.7

Vitality: 8 [1]

Izuku lowered his head down, making a dry chuckle.

POV Izuku

It had happened after all. The special effect of the highest form of the Survival skill. If only I hadn't revealed my true quirk, I would have never realized that I could develop my skills further and further.

Special effect: the user can revive depending on the sacrifice of all their status benefits except the quirk and the skill itself.

A lot of my skills were among the best. And One For All has only become a boost because it's not actually my quirk.

Izuku: I need to prepare myself. Now I can know-ah! Vault!

A second panel with a larger volume shows up next to the status. It shows empty slots except for one.

Izuku: I knew it.

I pulled out an item from it that looked like a stone. Or like a rune because of the inscription.

Izuku: Sayami, you idiotic genius.

Dropping her to the ground, chains came out of the vault and brought the item back into the slot.

Izuku: your curse for a simple joke became our salvation.

Taking that stone in my hands again, I immediately crushed it. A blue glow covered my hand and slowly traveled to my head. My eyes changed color for a second and I grabbed my head from the intense pain.

Izuku: kha! How bad it's turning out to be without a system...

As my brain was already starting to adjust to the new functions, I opened my status.

New skill: Rank C Potential Gaze

Izuku: (this is the one that helped me discover my true quirk. It's just a pity that person died immediately before he could explain himself to us. I don't know how much it takes for a view of full potential, but according to the group he would have been good for me).

Roooooaaaaarrr!

I grabbed my stomach from the sudden emptiness inside and sighed.

Izuku: it's been so long since I've had a familiar meal...

After going downstairs, I opened my aspect of the skill: survival book.

My skill is rank E, but its aspects: Storage and Survival Book are very useful.

Izuku: (I remember how after its acquisition I spent all the effort to find "simple" ingredients. Now you can upgrade your cooking skills as well).

And here is the third important aspect of it: Mastery. Going up in book learning I can, for each step achieved, gain 1 to 5% of his mastery.

Cooking, crafting, hunting, looting, and of course handling. All 5 sections of training.

However, I couldn't rely too much on cooking and crafting because it wasn't my thing, and yet they were the most important to unlocking the other phases.

But that would change now. Walking straight into the kitchen, I open the cookbook that appeared in my hand, unique in appearance. After all, this is what they look like physically.

And here comes the first assignment:

Make a dish with these ingredients:

Lemon

Vegetables

Octopus

Water

This was very... weird. It was because of these kinds of first ingredients to make that I couldn't start further with cooking after a few steps.

They always had to be obtained from someone.

No POV

A large group of students looked very tired after returning from school.

Uraraka: Ectoplasm-sensei was very strict in his equation.

???: x... what is this x equal to?

The raven-headed teenager pulled on the doorknob and then the nostrils in his beak expanded.

???: someone called for a food courier?

A few students shook their heads and everyone now entered the dormitory with confusion. The aroma of meat wafted in the air.

???: oh, you've arrived.

Izuku walked over to them, taking off his apron. The guys didn't discover at all that he also didn't wear a t-shirt, unlike the blushing girls.

Izuku: I guessed that you wouldn't be here for a while, and since there's no line for cooking yet, I've prepared some food.

He pointed to the table with plates set on it.

Izuku: no one minds eating octopus, right?

Almost everyone rushed to the table and grabbed their chopsticks.

An elegant looking girl from a rich family managed to make the first comment to the food.

????: this is delicious! The octopus is melting on my tongue!

Uraraka: I can hardly eat it!

The guy with six arms in the mask gave a thumbs up.

???: this perfectly fried octopus makes me want to get more.

His comment made a few people look at him strangely.

Izuku: nothing, Seji. I also saved a couple plates in the fridge. I just got really lucky with the promotion at that store.

Of course it was all a lie. Izuku actually went back to the dagoba beach with a diving mask and caught some octopuses there near the shore. He saw them while still cleaning the beach, but still decided not to touch them. That's why he's not wearing any outerwear right now.

Izuku: so what did you go over in class, Iida?

The tall teenager with glasses began to chop the air with his hand.

Iida: Aizawa-sensei informed us that the next day we would be studying martial arts before the exam for our temporary hero license.

Izuku made a worried face.

Izuku: Are you kidding me?! This is so cool! This way we can get one step closer to familiarizing ourselves with the workings of heroes, since we only studied their actions in the internship!

Uraraka: Deku's right! Back then, the heroes wouldn't even let us directly engage the villains without their consent.

The girl with frog features nodded, remembering how she caught the villains only under the hero's supervision.

Izuku: then we should be well-fed and rested before training! After all that we can't go backwards!

Almost everyone: YES!

An hour later

After stopping watching everyone having a friendly time, Izuku went out to the backyard.

Izuku: (their smiles were so pure. If only we could smile as well back then...)

He put the cookbook back in his hands and a panel came out of it.

[Congratulations on completing the first stage of training!]

[Gained 2 skill coefficients: Cooking!]

[Your dish has made the gourmet happy! Completed the secret part of the training!]

[Reward sent to the Vault!]

Looking at the vault, he found a small box in it. Opening it, Izuku saw a single orb contained within it. It looked like wind compressed into a ball.

Izuku: (fools and otaku would think it's a wind weapon or an artifact for wielding its magic, but no. It's all written off as the best traits of the environment there.)

He put the orb to his chest and jets of wind developed across his body.

And knowing he won't get an alert, Izuku looks at the status.

Izuku: still active. Perhaps the guys were right. My skill really is a cheat for this world.

As he walks back to his dorm, he accidentally bumps into a girl with pink skin.

Izuku: Oh, sorry Ashido. I'm not feeling myself today.

Nearly falling over, Ashido regained her balance and stared at Izuku. The guy still hadn't put his shirt on.

Ashido: it's n-n-normal. I think you just need to rest.

Izuku: (you have no idea what kind.)

After taking the elevator, Izuku went back to his room and kept his hands on his scars.

Izuku: (you have to do something about it. You can't do the same thing all the time.)

3 black appendages with green coloring appeared between his fingers, just like his hair.

Izuku: (I definitely can't be a symbol of peace in such a future. But hope I can be.)
