Steph was glad to be home. She's been in New York for a long time, and she missed Mystic Falls. The only thing she missed more than that was her sister. Steph couldn't wait to hug her again, to hear the inevitable "What's for dinner?" Instead of "hello". That was her little sister. That was Rissa, and she missed her. She couldn't wait for Rissa to graduate high school and come to college. Now that she did, Steph feels happier than ever. Her sister's always saying that she'll come join her in New York and they'll be together again. That's the moment Steph is waiting for, as well as the one she's dreading. Playfully, of course, she loves Rissa. She does not love cleaning up after Rissa.
Steph knocked on the door, expecting Rissa to immediately jump out, smiling and laughing. But she didn't. Stephanie waited for at least someone to open the door and let her in, but no one did. She sighed and opened the door with her own key. Came in. Nothing, no one. Steph went further into the house. She heard a familiar voice:
-Ugh, no, I'm not ready yet! Who is it?
-Rissa, it's me.- Marissa spun around to face her.
-Stephanie! You scared me!- that surprised Steph. Her sister rarely used her full name.
-So, hi, I missed you. How are you?
-If I'm anything, that something is not in the mood to talk.
-What's going on?
-Vik is coming over. It was supposed to be the two of us. But no, of course not, because he texted me five minutes ago, saying that he's gonna bring Little Miss Perfect!
-Vivi?
-No!- Rissa sarcastically announced.
-Listen, I know you hate Vivian, but please, just try to walk a mile in her shoes…
-I'd be happy to, but normal people's feet won't fit in there!- Steph laughed despite herself. Then the girls heard a knock on the door. Marissa groaned:
-Oh no! I wasted my time talking, and there they are! I told you I was not in the mood!- she ran to open the door, the way Steph was expecting her sister to run toward her. Vik and Vivi came in. Steph looked at Vivi's shoes. Rissa was right.
-Hi, Riss!- Vik said.
-Hi, Vik, hi Vivi.- Marissa answered, although reluctantly. Vivi just smiled.
-Hey, guys!- Steph spoke up. Vik waved to her. Rissa led the others to the kitchen, Steph followed, not knowing what else to do. They all sat around the round kitchen table. Vivi then said the fist words since she came in:
-So, Steph, back from New York? You know, I lived in New York. But only for a month or so, after that my dad decided to move to Hollywood. It was awesome.
-That's… cool.- Steph said, seeing Rissa glare at her. Vivian continued:
-So, I guess you cooked something, right, Steph? Being a chef and all.
-No, I just came.
-How unfortunate, I really hoped we'd have something good to eat…
-Well, I think Riss got some takeout,- Vik smiled. Vivi also smiled. Only with her mouth.
-I did. And I'm pretty sure it's better than whatever you ate in Hollywood.
-Actually, it can't be. We had one of the top ten chefs in the world, so I highly doubt that whoever made your leftovers is better.
-Takeout,- Marissa corrected.
-Ah, same thing. Steph would agree, you know, as a chef.- Steph nodded. She didn't nod because she agreed with the crap Vivian was saying, she agreed with the part of the statement that said she was a chef. That made Rissa furious. She didn't yell or anything, just silently furious in that way Marissa does it:
-I'll go get the food.
-Actually, Viky and I have to get going… but it's okay, don't be sad. You can still eat the… things Marissa bought.- she took Vik by the hand and led him outside. The sisters were left alone. They were silent for a beat. Marissa spoke first:
-What. Is. Your. Problem?
-What do you mean?
-Oh, you know what I mean, Steph! Could've at least supported me, but no! Nodding along with Vivian of all people! Did you not see what she was trying to do?! She came in, insulted me in every way possible and walked away, while my sister completely agreed with everything she said!
-Rissa, that's not what happened…
-It's exactly what happened, you just weren't paying enough attention to notice!
-Me? I wasn't paying enough attention? I drove here for hours, just to see you, and you didn't even bother with a "hello".
-Great, make this about yourself, as if I'm not already hearing about that every day: "Stephanie's so perfect!", "Stephanie's so great!", "Just look at Stephanie!", Stephanie, Stephanie, Stephanie!
-Rissa, what are you doing?
-Saying the truth!
-No! That's not the truth! The truth is that you're trying to blame me for your stupid, unreturned love for Vik!
-The only love that's stupid is the one I have for you!
-Rissa, no, you know I didn't mean…
-Yes you did! And so do I! I wish I couldn't feel any of this!- and with those words, she stormed out of the house.
