Once back in her dorm room, Max texted Chloe.
'Are you busy?" Max texted and it didn't take long before Chloe answered.
'Currently working a shift at the diner.' Chloe texted. 'Do you need something?' she texted shortly after the first.
'Just your ears to went.' Max texted back.
'Come by the diner, my ears are always available for you.' Chloe texted.
After receiving Chloes text, Max prepared to leave her room. As she was passing by the gates leading into the dorm area, she bumped into Mr. Jefferson.
"Steady there Max." Mr. Jefferson said as he helped Max to steady herself before she fell. "Are you sure you're doing alright?" He asked as he looked Max over and noticing that she was looking a little pale.
"Yes." Max said. "I'm just about to head over to see my friend Chloe at the Two Whales diner." She continued as her stomach rumbled a little. "And maybe get something to eat while I'm there." She said with embarrassment.
"I'll give you a ride." Mr. Jefferson said as he and Max started to walk again.
"Is that wise?" Max asked.
"I need to go back home and pick something up that I forgot this morning." Mr. Jefferson said. "And it won't be much of a detour. Or would you rather wait at the bus stop and risk having Mr. Graham come up to you again?" Mr. Jefferson continued.
Max didn't need to think about it before she accepted Mr. Jeffersons offer of driving her to the diner.
"Would you mind if I told Chloe about the pregnancy?" Max asked after she put the seatbelt on. "I won't mention you for now if you don't want me to, but she's one of my best friends and she will eventually see that I'm pregnant." Max continued. "I would rather she hears it from me now, before I start showing too much." Max said.
"It's entirely up to you Max." Mr, Jefferson said as he kept driving. "If it'll make you feel better, then I won't stop you." He continued. "Will you need a ride back to the school later?" Mr. Jefferson asked as he turned into the parking lot at the Two Whales.
"No, thank you Mr. Jefferson, I'll probably hitch a ride with Chloe later. And thank you for giving me a ride here." Max said as she got out of his car.
"Mark." Mr. Jefferson said. "Please just call me Mark when we are alone Max." he continued making Max blush. "I better be off. I've still got a class to teach this afternoon. And I'll email you the assignment later, alright." Mr. Jefferson said as Max closed the door and he drove off.
Without realising it, Max waved goodbye to Mr. Jefferson as he drove off. When she did realise it, she stopped and turned to head into the diner. Walking in was like walking into home after having been away for a long time. The atmosphere instantly calmed Max's nerves and when she sat down, it didn't take long for Chloe to walk up to her.
"Hey Max. What's up." Chloe said as she put a cup of coffee in front of Max.
"Too much stuff." Max said as she took a sip of the coffee before looking what was available on the table.
"Like what?" Chloe asked as she saw that Max added salt to her coffee. "Dude, did you just add salt to your coffee?" Chloe said with a disgusted face as Max stirred her coffee.
Max just shrugged her shoulders as she took a sip before answering Chloe.
"A lot of stuff. When I tell you about it, you have got to promise me that you will not shout when I tell you. The last thing I need right now is the whole of Arcadia Bay knowing." Max said as she added a little hot sauce to her coffee as well while Chloe just sat there looking like she's about to throw up from the combination Max created.
"Are you sure that is good?" Chloe asked as she saw Max finishing the coffee. "Anyway, what do you want to eat?" Chloe asked as she got back up.
"Would it be possible for me to still get the Bacon Omelette?" Max asked. "I know it's a breakfast item, but that's what I'm really hungry for." She added.
"I'll see what I can do, but no promises." Chloe said as she walked away.
"It feels like I was here just yesterday with Ariana." Max thought as she looked outside while she absentmindedly stroked her stomach. She was still deep in thought when Chloe returned with her food.
"Are you sure that you are ok Max? Do you have a stomach-ache or something?" Chloe asked as she put the food in front of Max. "Actually, I would too if I had that coffee." She said as she sat down. "I've got half an hour, so shoot. What did you want to talk to me about?" Chloe said as Max started to eat her food.
"Remember when Ariana and I came here a couple of weeks ago?" Max said as she put some mayonnaise on the omelette, once again making Chloe want to throw up.
"Yeah, how is she by the way? I haven't seen her since." Chloe asked.
"Oh, she's good." Max said. "But back to why I needed to talk to you." Max continued. "The reason why she was here that Saturday is because…" Max said as she took a bite. "Is because I accidentally got drugged at the Vortex party the day before." Max said as she mixed some ketchup with the mayonnaise.
"That is so fucked up. I can't believe they are still allowing those parties to take place." Chloe said. "Go on, since I think there is more to the story than you just getting drugged." Chloe continued.
"The next day I woke up naked in my bed." Max said as she paused for a moment.
"And? Were you alone or did you have company?" Chloe pressed for further answers.
"I woke up naked next to Mr. Jefferson." Max whispered to make sure that no one else heard her.
"No fucking way!" Chloe said louder than she had intended.
"Ssh." Max hurriedly shushed Chloe. "Not so loud." She continued.
"Well? Was he any good?" Chloe asked with a smirk on her face.
"I don't know." Max said. "I don't remember much from that night aside from the few flashbacks I've had." She continued.
"Bummer." Chloe said jokingly making Max smile while she mixed some of the hot sauce into the ketchup and mayonnaise mix. "With the way you are mixing the sauces, someone might think that you are pregnant or something." Chloe said in a joking manner while maintaining a disgusted look on her face. When Max didn't say anything, Chloe got a worried look on her face. "Max." she said. "Are, are you…" she tried to say it but couldn't.
"Yes." Max finally said as she leaned back in the seat while Chloe looked at her friend with a chocked expression.
"Is it… his?" Chloe asked once she found her voice again.
"Yes." Max said again with a sigh before looking out the window towards the ocean.
"Hey, did you know that I saw that Warren guy the other day." Chloe said to change the topic as she felt that Max did not want to keep talking about it.
"I'm sure you did." Max said with a heavy sigh.
"Did something happen between the two of you? Last time I saw him, he was all over you and went wherever you went." Chloe said.
"We haven't spoken in months." Max admitted. "He just stopped talking to me when I rejected him." She continued. "Even though I told him that I didn't want to jeopardise our friendship, he didn't really take it all that well and basically accused me of stringing him along." Max said.
"I'm sorry to hear that Max." Chloe said. "Then I guess you don't want to know who I saw him making out with." She continued.
"Not really. But I think I can guess who it was." Max said.
"Who do you think it was?" Chloe asked.
"Brooke." Max said. "And no, it doesn't bother me that they are dating, I was kind of hoping they would start dating. And it's none of my business anyway who he dates." She continued.
Sensing that Max didn't want to talk about her friend, Chloe changed the topic back to babies and if Max had thought of any names yet, to which she said that it hadn't crossed her mind. For the remaining of Chloes break, she suggested several options of names for both boys and girls. And when she had to return to her shift, Chloe could tell that their conversation had lifted Max's spirit some.
