That night, Rosalie briefly poured over the blueprints to memorize them. Edward searched the rest of Doc's garage/lab. Alice, styled like a brunette Molly Ringwald, kept watch by the door.

"This explains the time travel function, but not the flying or the fusion reactor," Rosalie said.

"Do we need those?"

"No. It would be convenient, but we can do without."

"You'll just rebuild it to factory specs?"

"No, the factory specs assume unleaded gas and a national highway system."

"Where we're going, we don't have paved roads," Edward said.

"Exactly. Some of this is going to have to be old school."

"Can we get the parts?"

"Yeah. Though you know, it might just be easier to take a restored Model T and install the Flux capacitor on that. It will stand out less too."

"There was a lot of experimentation with cars in 1910," Edward responded. "I don't think an eighties sports car would stand out as much as you'd think. Car design hadn't been standardized yet."

Rosalie turned to Alice and asked her, "Will a Delorean blend in?"

Alice looked into Edward's future in the world's past. "It will get a little attention, but if you add a period license plate, it should be fine."

"I can get that from the same guy who has the parts," Rosalie said. "He's knee-deep in antique cars." Then her eyes lit up as she saw something scurry under the window. "Squirrel!"

"I just want the gull-wing doors, okay? They're kind of awesome."

Rosalie grabbed the squirrel with one hand and ripped it with her teeth, neatly sucking out the blood.

"Whaaaaat the fuuuuuu..."

Rosalie froze. Marty was staring at her. Embarrassed, she yelled at Alice, "You were supposed to keep a look out!"

Alice shrugged. "He won't tell anyone. We're fine. No, he's going to live. Just stop freaking out, both of you."

"Will he figure it out?" Edward asked, too softly and quickly for human ears to parse.

Alice smiled at everyone reassuringly. "Marty, I'm sorry we broke into your friend's garage."

"Sh-she's, uh, eating a rat!" Marty explained.

"No, she's sucking the blood out of a rat because we're vampires," Alice calmly explained. "Don't worry. We don't do that to people."

"Whoa, this is heavy..."

"Tell anyone about us, and we'll tell Principal Strickland about your bootleg movie business. I mean, that is why you came here, isn't it?" Alice pointed to the shelves of recording equipment and stacks of hand-labeled VHS tapes.

"Also, we know what you really used the Delorean for," Edward added.

Marty relaxed as he realized the power balance had suddenly shifted toward him. "But you don't know how to use it yourselves."
