Chapter 46: The First Day of Training
The sun peeked over the horizon, casting a warm glow across Konoha as Team 7 gathered in the training field, each of them ready for the next phase of their journey. Today marked the beginning of their specialized training.
Kakashi stood in front of them, his usual laid-back demeanor replaced with something more serious. "Remember, this is the first step toward your individual growth," he said. "What you learn in these next few weeks will be crucial for the final exams."
He gave each of them a nod, signaling for them to go meet their respective trainers.
Sasuke followed Kakashi to a more secluded part of the forest. He could feel the tension in the air, not from nerves but from the sheer anticipation of what was to come. Kakashi turned to him, his visible eye sharp with intent.
"We're going to work on your Sharingan, Sasuke. You've tapped into its power, but there's a lot more you can do," Kakashi explained. He began with exercises to push Sasuke's visual prowess—tracking movements, predicting attacks, and increasing the time he could keep the Sharingan active without exhausting himself.
As they began sparring, Kakashi's movements were swift, but Sasuke was keeping up, his Sharingan eyes following each shift, every flicker of Kakashi's body. His internal drive to surpass his limits was pushing him forward, even though he could feel the strain building.
"Good," Kakashi said as Sasuke dodged another strike, a rare tone of approval in his voice. "But we're only just getting started."
Naruto stood in front of Ebisu with his usual energy, though he couldn't help but feel a bit skeptical. "Alright, let's get this over with!" he declared, cracking his knuckles.
Ebisu pushed his glasses up and gave Naruto a disapproving look. "You may not like this, but you need more control over your chakra. Power is useless if you can't focus it," he explained, his voice matter-of-fact.
Naruto groaned but didn't protest. He knew that his wild energy needed some reining in. Ebisu led him through a series of drills, mostly concentrating on Naruto's ability to balance and manipulate his chakra efficiently—starting with the basics like walking on water, then progressing to more difficult tasks. Naruto struggled with his focus, but little by little, his control was improving.
"You've got potential, but you need discipline," Ebisu said after watching Naruto barely manage to stay on the surface of the water without sinking.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll get it down. Believe it!" Naruto huffed, determined to make it work.
Sakura followed Kurenai into a quiet grove, the trees offering a peaceful environment for her training. She felt a mix of excitement and anxiety—she knew how to cast genjutsu, but it was more surface-level knowledge. She could perform simple illusions, but she didn't really understand the true mechanics behind them.
Kurenai stood in front of her, arms crossed. "Sakura, you've got the potential for genjutsu, but understanding it is different from just knowing the techniques," she began. "Genjutsu isn't just about casting illusions—it's about manipulating your opponent's senses, controlling their perception of reality. You can't just learn that from a book."
Sakura nodded, listening intently. She realized this training was going to be more difficult than she anticipated, but she welcomed the challenge.
Kurenai demonstrated by casting a subtle genjutsu on Sakura, causing the environment around them to shift slightly. Sakura blinked, feeling the air turn colder and the trees sway unnaturally. Her pulse quickened. "I didn't even notice it happening…"
"Exactly," Kurenai said, her expression serious. "That's what makes genjutsu effective. It can be gentle and unnoticed, but by the time your opponent realizes something's wrong, it's too late."
Sakura's eyes narrowed in concentration. She had the foundation, but now she needed to refine it. Kurenai started walking her through mental exercises to improve her chakra control and perception, pushing her to not only cast genjutsu but to break free from it.
"Focus on your chakra. Control it like you would any other part of your body," Kurenai instructed as Sakura tried to unravel the illusion cast on her. It took a few tries, but finally, she dispelled it, a bead of sweat rolling down her temple.
"Good start," Kurenai praised. "But we have a lot more work to do."
As the day came to an end, the three of them returned to the training field, each worn out but brimming with new knowledge.
Kakashi, watching his students, couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. They were growing, not just as shinobi, but as individuals. He gave them each a subtle nod. "Rest up. Tomorrow, we push harder."
Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke exchanged looks of shared determination, ready for whatever came next. They had a long road ahead, but they were prepared to face it together, as a team.
