Chapter 50: Weapons of Fate
The training ground was quiet as the early morning mist rolled over the grass, shrouding the area in a cool haze. Team 7 stood side by side, their eyes trained on Kakashi, who stood in front of them with his usual casual air, but there was something different about today. Today was the day they would finally start weapons training.
"All right, everyone," Kakashi began, his hands still stuffed in his pockets, "you've done a great job over the last two weeks. You've each made considerable progress in your respective areas—genjutsu, ninjutsu, taijutsu—but now we're going to focus on something that can change the tide of any battle: weapons."
Naruto shifted restlessly, his curiosity barely contained. "So, what kind of weapon are we talking about? Something cool, right?" He grinned widely, already imagining something dramatic like a giant shuriken or a massive blade.
Sakura, on the other hand, was more measured, though her curiosity was just as keen. "How will this help in our upcoming matches, Kakashi-sensei?"
Kakashi's visible eye crinkled in response. "Weapons aren't just about swinging them around. They force you to think differently. The right weapon in the right hands can make even the simplest attack devastating. And each of you will be trained in a weapon that will complement your fighting style."
Sasuke remained silent but focused. His recent mastery of the three-tomoe Sharingan had sharpened his resolve. Anything that would give him an edge in the upcoming battles, especially against Gaara, he was ready for.
Kakashi stepped forward, producing three scrolls from within his vest. "Now, let's talk about what you'll be training with." He tossed a scroll to each of them, and as they caught them, anticipation hung in the air.
Naruto, ever impatient, was the first to unroll his scroll. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he stared at the unfamiliar symbols on the parchment. "What's this? Some kind of sealing thing?"
Kakashi gave a small nod. "That's right. Naruto, you'll be learning advanced fuinjutsu—sealing techniques. It might not seem like a weapon in the traditional sense, but trust me, in the right hands, it can be more powerful than any blade or spear. You've already shown promise with shadow clones, and fuinjutsu requires precise chakra control, something you'll need for your Wind Release as well. It'll push you, but you'll find it invaluable in the finals."
Naruto blinked, scratching his head. "Sealing stuff? I was kinda hoping for something flashier…"
"Don't worry," Kakashi said with a smirk, "once you've learned how to use it properly, it'll be plenty flashy."
Next, Kakashi turned to Sakura, who had already unrolled her scroll and was studying it intently. "Sakura, your weapon training will be focused on an axe."
Sakura's eyes widened. "An axe? I've never used something that heavy before."
Kakashi nodded, understanding her concern. "That's the point. You've got excellent chakra control, but your physical strength still needs work. The battle axe will help you develop that strength, while also requiring precision in your attacks. Combined with your growing mastery of genjutsu, you'll have both the mental and physical edge over your opponents."
Sakura took a deep breath and nodded, the weight of the challenge settling in her mind. She had trained hard with Kurenai, mastering the nuances of genjutsu, but she knew that in battle, physical strength would play a key role. She was ready to meet the challenge head-on.
Finally, Kakashi faced Sasuke, who had remained cool and silent the entire time. Sasuke slowly unrolled his scroll, revealing a design of a katana etched onto the paper.
"A katana," Sasuke muttered, his eyes narrowing with interest.
Kakashi nodded. "It's a perfect fit for your style. Fast, precise, and lethal in the hands of someone with your skills and Sharingan. The katana will allow you to capitalize on your speed, and with the Sharingan's predictive abilities, you'll be able to counter and strike before your opponent even realizes what's happening."
Sasuke's grip on the scroll tightened slightly. He had always focused on his own natural abilities, his Sharingan, and taijutsu, but the idea of adding a katana to his arsenal was intriguing. It was a weapon that required finesse and precision—qualities he prided himself on.
Kakashi stepped back, surveying his team with pride. "For the next two weeks, we'll focus on these weapons. You'll train hard, get familiar with them, and make them an extension of yourselves. In the finals, these will give you an edge, but only if you commit to mastering them."
Naruto, ever the ball of energy, pumped his fist into the air. "All right! Let's do this!"
Sakura, a determined glint in her eye, nodded firmly. "I won't hold back."
Sasuke remained silent, but his gaze was sharp, focused. He was ready.
The first day of weapons training was grueling. Kakashi led them through the basics, making sure each of them understood not just how to use their respective weapons, but how to integrate them into their fighting styles.
Naruto struggled at first with the complexity of sealing techniques. "Ugh, this is too much thinking!" he groaned, scrawling symbols and testing his chakra control. But with Kakashi's guidance, he began to grasp the fundamentals, his natural chakra reserves aiding him in practicing the intricate seals.
Sakura, on the other hand, found the battle axe cumbersome at first. The weight was much more than she was used to, and she fumbled with it during the initial drills. But as the hours passed, she began to apply her chakra control to the weapon, channeling it into her strikes. Slowly but surely, the axe felt less like a burden and more like a tool she could wield effectively.
Sasuke took to the katana like he had been born with it in hand. His Sharingan allowed him to track every movement with precision, and he moved with a lethal grace, his strikes fast and clean. Kakashi watched him closely, impressed by how quickly Sasuke adapted.
By the end of the first day, all three of them were exhausted, but there was a sense of progress. These weapons would push them beyond their limits, but Kakashi knew they would emerge stronger, more capable, and ready for the finals.
"Rest up," Kakashi called out as they began to wrap up their training. "Tomorrow, we push even harder."
As Team 7 dispersed, each of them left with their minds buzzing with thoughts of their new weapons and the challenges ahead. The final exams were still weeks away, but the training was already shaping them into the shinobi they needed to become.
