On a sunny morning, in the forest that was close to the area of dragons, a figure was running through the woods. A young lady with shiny, golden blonde hair that was in a braid and blue, sapphire eyes was going through obstacle that she has gone through by crossing the river and jumping over logs. The young lady kept on going as she was running out of breath, but she kept on going until she spotted a big gap between the edges.
Her name is Chrysta, but she isn't just a young lady. She is a princess. The princess of the area of dragons. Her father, King Theo, is the ruler of the dragons. He has raised his daughter by himself, ever since her mother was gone when she was little. He is growing old, and he does love his daughter, but he also tried his best to raise her to be a ruler of the dragon kingdom. But the one thing he can never take was her adventurous spirit. Just like her mother.
Chrysta really do love her father and knew how hard he tried, but sometimes, she just wished that she could tell him what she desires. While she kept on running through the obstacles, she saw the cliffs close by and her heart was pounding.
'Come on, Chrysta. You can make it. You got this.' she thought to herself.
With all her might on running from her legs and was getting close to the edge, she let out a big leap as she was jumping over the big gap. Chrysta's eyes grew wide, her heart was pounding faster, breathing out of control, but she felt that she was about to smile like she was going to make it.
But as she was now at the other side of the cliff, she slipped of the edge. Chrysta gasped and then screamed as she was falling off the cliff. Chrysta closed her eyes for a bit, hoping that it was some kind of a dream and wants to wake up, until something caught her leg. She opened her eyes to see that she's still alive but wondering why she was floating until she heard the sound of flapping wings.
Chrysta looked up to see a pink dragon flying above her and grabbing her leg by her dragon hand. On her back was another dragon, but small with greyish-blue scales and white fur that covers the head, chest, and the tip of his tail. Chrysta smiled as she knew who the dragons were as the pink one flew up to the cliff where she was supposed to land at.
As the pink dragon gently dropped Chrysta to the ground, the princess got up and dusted the dirt off of her.
"Thanks Tameka." she said to her and then giggled as the small dragon jumped on her. "Etho."
"Chrysta, have you lost your mind? What were you thinking jumping over that gap? You could have been a goner and there won't be an heir."
"I actually thought I could make. You know try to fly like a dragon."
"You're a human, Chrysta. Humans can't fly."
"Only if you believe it." said Chrysta as she petted Etho in her arms. "I'm heading to my favorite spot. Wanna come?"
"And not come back past breakfast? Surely, you can't skip that." said Tameka.
"Relax, I got money to buy something for the market."
"They'll probably give it to you for free because you are a princess." said the dragon as Etho hopped onto her back. "You might as well get on my back. I'll may have to take you to the path that leads to the village."
Chrysta carefully hopped on Tameka's back while Etho was sitting in front of her and was hanging on to the pink dragon's back as she starts flapping her wings.
Tameka starts taking off as she carried Chrysta and Etho on her back as flew above the forest. Looking down to see if there's any paths for the princess to walk on. Luckily, she spotted one.
"Hold on, princess. We're going down." she said and starts diving down.
Not too much of a fast dive, but slow and gentle as she dives down to the path. With a gentle landing, Chrysta and Etho quickly got off of her.
"I do know this path too well. It leads straight to the village. I'm pretty sure they will be happy to see you walking by." said Tameka.
Chrysta smiled at her dragon as she places Etho on her shoulders and starts walking on the path while Tameka follows her.
In the village, both dragons and people were living together peacefully since the ancient times. Some of the dragons were flying freely or helping the people with businesses, and some young ones were playing with the children. Chrysta, Tameka, and Etho finally made it to the village as they were walking by. The pink looked to see every person and dragon were staring at Chrysta. Her expression changes and had her head down as she felt that everyone is staring at her.
A flashback came into her mind that Tameka is a very shy dragon ever since she was a hatchling. She's been living in the castle, never go out and hang around with the other dragons, and always stay close to her mother, the king's dragon. But one memory she'll never forget was when she met Chrysta as a child. The two stayed close and became best friends, but the dragon was still shy and does worry for the princess when she goes reckless.
"Good day, your highness." "Hello Princess Chrysta." the villagers all greeted and as they see her.
Chrysta smiled as she waved to them. The little girls came running towards her with a small bouquet of flowers and the salesmen... well, Tameka was right, they did give her free food like both fruit and meat.
Etho wagged his tail to see the food but then looked up to see the young dragons flying. He hopped onto Tameka's back and then to the ground. He starts running towards to where the young ones are and tries flapping his tiny wings. Wanting to fly but he couldn't. He tries flapping again but won't go any higher as he struggles and lands on the ground. He looked at the dragons with sad eyes and had his head down until he felt Chrysta's arms picking him up.
"Don't worry, Etho. Maybe someday you fly with them, once your wings grow out." she spoke softly to her and Etho looks disappointed. "You just need some patience."
"Yeah, like what you did back at the cliffs." Tameka whispered to her and Chrysta just gave her a look of annoyance."
As they were getting close to the forest, Tameka stopped and looked to see the other dragons playing around and chatting. She let out a sigh and as she looked at them. Chrysta stopped as she notices that Tameka was a couple of feet behind her.
"Tameka? Are you coming?" she asked.
"Yeah..." she replied softly as she caught up with Chrysta, "I'm coming."
The princess watched her friend walked past her and looked back at to where dragons were. All chatting and laughing. She stared at them for a moment and the quickly caught up to her.
"You know it's never too late to try talking or hang out with them." she spoke to the dragon.
"Chrysta, we talked about this. I can't." she replied.
"But surely your mother wants to. We both wanted you to make some friends. Etho agrees as well." said Chrysta as Etho purred.
"What if I don't? They'll probably tease and laugh at me."
"No, they won't, Tameka. Just... give it a try."
Tameka looked at her friend and Etho. She let out a sigh that she, especially her mother, was right about making friends, but the pink dragon always stayed shy and worried.
"I'll... I'll try, but maybe next time." she answered as she was unsured.
Chrysta smiled a little and patted her dragon, knowing her too well but she will always be with her.
A moment later, they stopped at a cliff to where it happens to be Chrysta's favorite spot. They all laid and sat on the ground and helped themselves with the free food that the salesmen have given them to. Chrysta took a bite of her fruit as she staring at the view. There were trees everywhere and birds flying around, but in the middle of that forest was a big gap. Chrysta remember the story her father had told her about the times that the creatures and humans live together including the gems until the goblins started the war and gems were divided into areas. The gap in the center of the forest was where it all started.
Chrysta stared at the center and then looked around the trees, imagining that there were paths to the lands where every mythical creature is there. She began to wonder as she took another bite of her fruit.
"Something on your mind, Chrysta?" Tameka asked as she finished a bite from her meat and looked at her.
Chrysta turned her head to face her friend while Etho was still biting his food.
"It's just that..." Chrysta began to speak as she looked back at the view, "Have you ever imagined like going out there and see the wonders of the other lands? Like having an adventure and see new things."
Tameka looked at her friend in worry.
"You're not thinking about...?"
"It's just a wonder, Tameka." said Chrysta as she looked at her. "And besides, you know I can't. I am the princess of the dragon kingdom, and my father says, it is my duty-"
"To protect the kingdom." they both said.
"And also... do what's right. I know I can't leave this kingdom, but I feel like maybe someday I could go out there."
The pink dragon wanted to say something, but somehow the words didn't come out of her mouth. She looked back at the view and wondered that maybe a little adventuring wouldn't hurt. But she can't. She doesn't feel brave at all and also, don't know what her mother would say. As she looked up at the sky, she notice that the sun have moved a little and figured what the time be.
"Should we go back to the castle?" she asked as she looked at the princess.
"Let's stay a little longer. Until it's almost time for lunch." Chrysta replied and the three continued watching the view as they eat.
