Chapter 6:

"So Chi… spill the beans," Bulma said with a glass of wine in one hand.

The two women were currently at Capsule Corp. Bra was sleeping soundly in the nursery room nearby, and her mother was determined to get as much information as possible while also still being there for her good friend. To Bulma's surprise, Chi-Chi accepted a glass of wine herself. It was incredibly rare for Chi-Chi to drink, even during special occasions, so whatever she was going through must've been hard, Bulma thought.

"Well, I guess you've heard," Chi-Chi sighed, not oblivious at all to why Bulma called her over for girls' night.

"Yeah, cat's out the bag."

"How'd you find out?"

"Goku came here a few days ago and told me how he 'gave' you a divorce."

Chi-Chi looked at her friend, a little shocked to hear that Goku was here. "What happened?"

"At first it was just Vegeta, Yamcha, and me here. We were fighting because Yamcha was being Yamcha and Vegeta was being Vegeta so you know, both of them idiots."

"As usual," Chi-Chi agreed.

"Then Goku comes here suddenly, looking just downright confused, and starts asking questions. He obviously didn't know what a 'divorce' was, which by the way… come on, was that really fair to Goku?"

Chi-Chi just shrugged her shoulders seemingly indifferent, though she did feel a pang of guilt for tricking him like that.

"Anyways, as soon as we explained to him what a divorce was, he freaked out then disappeared saying how he had to see you right away. He was really upset."

Chi-Chi swirled the wine in her glass, drifting into her thoughts. She really didn't think that Goku cared that much. She was probably so mad at him at the time, that she forgot that Goku still cared about other people's feelings in general. And from what Bulma was saying, it sounded like he cared a lot about her.

Bulma studied her friend, then sighed.

"Chi-Chi… I'm just going to come out and say it. I totally understand why you'd want to leave Goku. In fact, any sane woman would do that and I'm astonished you didn't dump him all those years ago. I can't remember how many times he left you, and every single time I would think, 'there goes Goku being Goku.' And I'd see how sad you were, but your strength would shine through as if it was no big deal. But it was never okay for him to do that to you, so it only makes sense why you'd want to move on with your life and… maybe find someone else that wouldn't do that to you?"

The raven-haired woman visibly reacted. She never even thought of finding someone else… and her being with someone other than Goku? It just felt so wrong. There probably would never be anyone else. Her heart... It would always be Goku's, even if they weren't together.

Seeing Chi-Chi really think about her words, Bulma decided to go further. "Goku definitely doesn't deserve you sometimes… but I can guarantee you without a doubt that he loves you. If you asked him, you, Gohan, and Goten are the most important people in his life. He'd rather die than see any of you hurt."

Could I have been… wrong? Did I let my anger get in the way of what's obvious? Chi-Chi felt her cheeks redden in shame, and she didn't know what to think anymore. She knew Bulma was right. Of course Goku cared about her… and yes, perhaps he did love her. But… could she just go back to how things were? With her husband going in and out as he pleases, leaving her all alone to raise another kid and handle the house by herself? It wasn't the work she was worried about the most though, she was just so tired of Goku leaving.

Was there a middle ground somewhere?

"Hey," Bulma said, wrapping a comforting arm around Chi-Chi. "Sorry I got too nosy with your business. I'll be a friend to you both no matter what you two decide, so try not to think about this anymore okay? Let's just kick back and relax! And talk about how much of a menace our sons are."

Chi-Chi laughed, her mind flashing back to just this afternoon when Goten tried to sneak a stink bomb into the house and the subsequent spanking he received for that.

The mood of the night lightened up a bit, but from time to time, her thoughts would wander back to a certain spiky-haired Saiyan. Oh Goku… what are we going to do?
