Chapter 7:
To say the Son boys were worried about their parents, was an understatement. While Gohan understood a lot of it being that he was an adult now, Goten wasn't oblivious enough to notice their parents were fighting. He wished they could just stop. Mommies and daddies weren't supposed to fight. They were supposed to be together and make kissy-kissy faces, he thought with nausea.
"Gohan, what are we gonna do about Mom and Dad?" Goten asked his older brother. If anyone could solve a problem, it was definitely him.
"Not sure Goten… This is an adult problem, and I don't think we have a right to interfere."
Okay, maybe he wasn't always the brightest crayon in the box. "Gohan seriously!? These are our PARENTS!"
"Yes Goten, I know that, but…"
"But what!? Come on! We gotta do something!"
Gohan thought long and hard… Well, what would he do if he was in his dad's shoes? Immediately, he pictured his father doing anything he could to fix things. And he imagined his dad telling him to never give up no matter how hopeless it seems. "You're right bro. We do have to do something! Let's think…"
The boys sat on Gohan's living room sofa for a while, trying their best to come up with a plan. Gohan mulled over different options, but Goten's 8-year-old brain got the best of him and he started poking around his brother's room instead. "I got it!" Gohan said, startling his little brother. "This is what we're going to do. Goten, you're going to tell Mom to come here on Friday for a family dinner. You know Mom would never say no to seeing us and especially Pan. And then I'm gonna tell Dad to come here too. BUT we're not going to tell either of them that both of them are invited."
Goten's eyes lit up with admiration. "Wow Gohan, that's pretty smart!"
"Yeah. We won't be here either for dinner. We're just going to pretend that we are. As soon as Mom and Dad get here, it'll just be dinner for two and hopefully they can talk out their problems then."
"Who's gonna cook?" Goten asked.
"Us of course."
Goten looked at his brother skeptically. The whole point of their plan was trying to get their parents back together, and he figured burnt dinner wasn't the way to do it. "Uhh…"
"Hey, I'm not that bad of a cook!" Gohan said in defense. It was true. He could at least… prepare salad. And boil noodles. And preheat the oven. But he eventually sighed as his brother continued to look at him with much warranted doubt. "Okay fine. If we ask nicely, I think Videl will help us."
"Okay! What if Mom and Dad try to leave?"
"Good point… Hmm… Goten, just use your puppy-dog eyes. I don't think Dad would leave. He really wants Mom back. And Mom could never say no to you."
"Hehe you're right! At least I didn't have to study as much as you when you were my age."
"Uh-huh…" he replied nonplussed.
"Awesome Gohan! Project-Get-Mom-And-Dad-Back-Together starts now!" With that, the two brothers high fived each other, hoping for the best.
