Chapter 37: Whispers in the Fairy Grotto

As the first rays of sunlight crept through the curtains, Link slowly opened his eyes, feeling the lingering warmth of the night before. Soi Fon lay curled against his side, her arms draped possessively around him, her breath soft against his chest. He smiled, brushing a few stray strands of hair from her face before carefully slipping out of bed.

After dressing, he made his way to his desk and pulled out a notebook, determined to map out the perfect proposals and dates for the three women still awaiting his official commitment. While he had spent the most time with Soi Fon recently, he knew he needed to make things special for Rangiku and Yoruichi, who had stood by patiently, waiting for their moment.

He scribbled down different ideas, considering what each of them would love most. Rangiku's vibrant personality called for something grand and romantic, but with a personal touch that would show her he truly understood her. Yoruichi, on the other hand, needed something playful yet meaningful, something that acknowledged their unspoken bond.

Just as he began to draft a plan for Soi Fon, a soft cough behind him made him pause. Turning his head, he saw her leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching him with an amused smirk.

"You don't need to plan anything for me," she said, her voice carrying a hint of smug satisfaction. "Last night was all the confirmation I needed. I already know I'm yours."

Link chuckled, rubbing the back of his head. "Still, I want to make it official—"

Soi Fon stepped forward and placed a finger over his lips, silencing him. "Focus on the others. I'll help you with Yoruichi's. But for today, you should start with Rangiku." She glanced at his notes before tapping her finger on one of the ideas he had scribbled down. "Go with this one. It's perfect for her."

Link looked at the idea she pointed to and nodded, a smile tugging at his lips. "Alright then. Let's make today unforgettable for Rangiku."

As Link busied himself gathering everything he needed for his day with Rangiku, Soi Fon stepped out of the Hylia estate, fully expecting a morning of light teasing and casual conversation. However, she was immediately met with something unexpected—both Yoruichi and Rangiku stood nearby, their expressions unreadable, though their faces carried an unmistakable hint of red. Their eyes flickered toward the lingering traces of lace peeking out from beneath Soi Fon's robes, a remnant of the scandalous lingerie she had worn the night before.

For a moment, none of them spoke.

Soi Fon raised an eyebrow, suddenly feeling exposed. "...What?"

Yoruichi smirked, folding her arms. "Oh, nothing," she said airily, her golden eyes gleaming with mischief. "Just wondering how our dear little Soi Fon is holding up after last night."

Soi Fon immediately stiffened, her cheeks burning. "Tch. None of your damn business," she shot back, turning away.

Yoruichi hummed, feigning thoughtfulness. "Ohhh, I dunno... After hearing you scream, 'By the Spirit King, Link, you're stretching me out too much!' I think it kind of became everyone's business."

Soi Fon froze.

Rangiku gasped before bursting into laughter, clutching her sides as she bent forward. "W-Wait, she said that?!"

Yoruichi nodded sagely. "Oh, she had plenty to say. What was it again? 'Slower! No, harder! Wait—both?!'"

Soi Fon's entire face turned beet red. "I DID NOT SAY THAT!" she shrieked, lunging at Yoruichi, who effortlessly dodged with a laugh.

Rangiku wiped a tear from her eye, still giggling. "Oh, this is amazing. I've never seen Soi Fon like this before."

"Shut up, both of you!" Soi Fon snapped, glaring at them with murderous intent.

Yoruichi grinned, not relenting in the slightest. "I mean, I knew you had a thing for Link, but I didn't think you'd go full 'destroy me, please, my mighty hero!' in one night."

Rangiku gasped again, fanning herself dramatically. "Oh my gosh, imagine if Byakuya heard this..."

Soi Fon visibly paled. "DON'T YOU DARE."

Yoruichi simply smirked. "Relax, relax. I wouldn't actually tell him..." She then leaned in, whispering teasingly, "...But I bet he already knows."

Soi Fon groaned, rubbing her temples. "I hate you. I hate both of you."

Yoruichi and Rangiku only laughed harder.

However, as the teasing continued, Rangiku gradually fell quieter, her earlier amusement fading into something more pensive. Soi Fon, noticing the shift, frowned. "What's with you?"

Rangiku hesitated before exhaling softly. "It's just... I joke around a lot, but, well..." She glanced away, twirling a strand of hair around her finger. "I've never actually, um... been with anyone before."

Soi Fon blinked. "Wait. You're a virgin?"

Rangiku pouted. "What, is that so surprising?"

"Yes," Soi Fon deadpanned.

Yoruichi chuckled. "Well, well... The woman who could probably seduce half of Soul Society with a single wink is actually as pure as fresh snow?" She grinned, elbowing Rangiku. "That's kinda adorable."

Rangiku huffed. "I just... I want it to be perfect, you know? I tease and flirt a lot, but when it comes to something real... I guess I'm a little nervous."

Soi Fon studied her for a moment before her expression softened. "You'll be fine," she assured her. Then, with a small smirk, she added, "Just don't push Link too far, or you might end up like me—practically worshipping the bed by morning."

Rangiku turned red at the implication, while Yoruichi let out a loud laugh. "I knew you liked it rough!"

Soi Fon groaned again, realizing there was no escaping this conversation.

As the girls continued talking, Rangiku still blushing at the teasing, Link suddenly appeared with a wide grin and a basket in one hand. Without hesitation, he grabbed Rangiku, effortlessly lifting her high above his head.

Soi Fon groaned again, realizing there was no escaping this conversation.

"WAIT, WHAT?! LINK, PUT ME DOWN!" Rangiku shrieked, flailing.

Yoruichi smirked as she watched them disappear into the distance. Then, she turned to Soi Fon, her golden eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Well, that just leaves us~."

Soi Fon crossed her arms. "What do you want now?"

Yoruichi threw an arm around her shoulder, pulling her close. "Oh, nothing much. Just figured you should help me prepare for my eventual time with Link."

Soi Fon immediately turned red. "W-What the hell does that mean?!"

Yoruichi grinned. "Well, after last night, I'm a little concerned. You did scream about how Link was breaking you in half, after all. I can't have that happen to me, so I figured you'd give me some pointers~."

Soi Fon shoved her off, her face burning. "I hate you."

"Sure you do," Yoruichi teased, grabbing her wrist before she could escape. "Come on, coach, let's go have some girl talk in my room~."

Soi Fon groaned loudly as she was dragged away, already regretting everything.

Meanwhile, Link continued sprinting through Soul Society with Rangiku still in his arms. Passersby gave him bewildered looks, especially when they heard Rangiku's distressed screaming.

"LINK, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU TAKING ME?!" she yelled, kicking her legs.

"You'll see!" Link called back with a grin.

As they neared their destination, the nearby Soul Reapers quickly stepped aside, recognizing the location—an unusual fairy grotto that had mysteriously formed not long ago.

"LINK, YOU ARE NOT THINKING OF—"

Before she could finish, Link jumped.

"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!" Rangiku's scream echoed as they plummeted into the grotto, disappearing beneath the earth.

Chapter 37 (Continued)

As Link and Rangiku plummeted into the Fairy Grotto, Rangiku let out a startled scream, arms flailing wildly. "Link, you maniac! You could've warned me!"

Link, however, remained entirely unfazed. His sharp eyes scanned the area even before they landed, checking to see if the glowing fairies within provided the perfect, dreamy ambiance he was hoping for. To his satisfaction, they did. The flickering lights danced against the walls of the cave, giving the grotto an almost mystical feel.

But more than that, he had another curiosity to satisfy—had the large grey fairy from before finally evolved into a true Great Fairy? Knowing how time functioned differently in these grottos, it was entirely possible.

Rangiku finally caught her breath and turned to glare at Link, shoving him hard in the chest. "Seriously, who asks a woman on a date by throwing her into a hole?!"

Link laughed, holding up his hands in surrender. "I could have warned you, but then I wouldn't have gotten to see that adorable look of panic on your face." He smirked. "Totally worth it."

Rangiku huffed, crossing her arms, but the hint of a smirk tugged at her lips. "You're unbelievable."

Her mild frustration faded, however, when her eyes landed on something new—a grand fountain of glowing water in the center of the grotto. It hadn't been there the last time they visited. The water shimmered with an ethereal light, casting gentle ripples across the cavern walls.

"Wait… this definitely wasn't here before," Rangiku muttered in awe.

Link nodded, stepping up to the fountain's base. His gaze locked onto the symbol etched into the stone. Instead of the familiar Royal Family Crest from his world, the carving depicted something different—a broken heart being mended by a soft green light.

"Interesting..." Link murmured, placing a thoughtful hand on his chin.

Rangiku tilted her head. "So, what now? Do we just throw in a coin and hope for the best?"

Link chuckled. "Not quite." Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his ocarina. "If this works like the fairy fountains from my world, I need to play the right song."

He brought the instrument to his lips and began to play the Song of Healing. The melody echoed softly through the cavern, resonating with the fairies who floated gracefully in response. Their glow pulsed rhythmically with the tune, illuminating the grotto in waves of light.

Then, the water within the fountain rippled violently, the glow intensifying. A deep, weary sigh filled the air.

"Ugh… you again?"

A figure emerged from the shimmering water—a tall, smirking man with silver hair, draped in the flowing robes of a Great Fairy.

Rangiku blinked. "Wait… Gin?!"

Gin Ichimaru, now fully transformed into a Great Fairy, stretched his arms lazily as if waking from a long nap. His usual sly grin was firmly in place, but there was a distinct air of mild irritation around him.

"Can't a guy get some rest without being summoned every time you need a magical pep talk?" He cracked one eye open, looking Link up and down before turning to Rangiku. "Tsk, tsk… dragging a lady down into a hole for a date? Didn't anyone teach ya manners, Link?"

Rangiku placed her hands on her hips, throwing Link a pointed look. "Right?!"

But before she could say more, Gin's teasing smirk widened. "Buuut…" His gaze flickered between them mischievously. "I see what this is. This ain't a 'help me, I'm dying' kinda visit. Nah… This is a 'date' visit, ain't it?"

Link just grinned. "Maybe."

Rangiku groaned, rubbing her forehead. "Oh, fantastic. The last thing I needed today was Fairy Gin giving me relationship advice."

Gin let out a chuckle, floating lazily in the air as he rested his cheek on his hand. "Now, now, don't be so cold, Rangiku. Ain't you curious what kinda wisdom I can offer?" He wiggled his fingers, making a trail of sparkling fairy dust swirl around him. "Who better to guide you through romance than your friendly, neighborhood Great Fairy?"

Link leaned in slightly. "So… does this mean you are a full-fledged Great Fairy now?"

Gin sighed dramatically, rolling onto his back midair. "Unfortunately. Turns out when ya 'die' with unfinished business, sometimes the world decides ya gotta keep working." He yawned. "Still, it ain't all bad. Least now I get to mess with folks like you whenever you come visit."

Rangiku stared at him for a moment before sighing, shaking her head. "I should've known your soul would never rest."

Gin chuckled. "What can I say? I like keepin' things interestin'." His playful expression softened just a bit. "But… I will say, ya picked a good one, Rangiku." His sharp, fox-like eyes flickered toward Link. "He's got that stubborn hero complex—kinda reminds me of someone."

Rangiku blushed slightly at Gin's words but quickly masked it with a huff. "Tch. He also threw me into a hole, so jury's still out."

Gin just laughed, floating above the fountain. "Well, ya better decide quick. Can't keep the poor boy waiting forever, ya know?"

Link, amused by the entire interaction, crossed his arms. "So… does this mean you're going to bless this date, oh mighty Great Fairy Gin?"

Gin snickered. "Hmmm… how 'bout this? I'll give ya a lil' gift to make things interestin'." He snapped his fingers, and a soft, golden glow surrounded Rangiku.

She blinked, looking at herself. "Uh… What did you just do?"

Gin winked. "Gave ya somethin' special for the night. Consider it a favor… from an old friend."

Before Rangiku could press further, Gin vanished in a swirl of golden light, his laughter echoing through the grotto.

Link turned to Rangiku, raising an eyebrow. "So… do I get to know what he did?"

Rangiku shrugged. "Guess we'll find out… later." She smirked, linking her arm through his. "Now, since you forced me into this date, you better make it worth my while."

Link grinned, leading her deeper into the fairy-lit grotto. "Oh, don't worry. I plan to."

As they ventured deeper into the grotto, Link marveled at its sheer size. It was unlike any Fairy Fountain he had ever encountered in Hyrule—sprawling, illuminated by cascading waterfalls of glowing water, and filled with tiny flickering fairies that drifted through the air like living stars. It was enchanting, a hidden paradise untouched by time.

Finally, he found the perfect spot—a small, open clearing near the fountain's edge, where the shimmering light reflected beautifully off the water. He set down the basket and pulled out a large, plush blanket, spreading it across the soft grass before turning to Rangiku.

"Here, sit down," he said, offering her his hand.

Rangiku smirked but took it, letting him help her settle onto the blanket. "You sure know how to pick a romantic spot, hero."

Link grinned as he began setting out the items he had brought for their picnic—freshly baked bread, a variety of sweet and savory treats from Urahara's shop, and a bottle of chilled sake he had managed to snag from a certain Captain's collection.

As he carefully arranged the food, he finally spoke. "I brought you here for more than just a date."

Rangiku raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh?"

He nodded. "I needed to get permission from someone before I could ask you something important."

Rangiku's playful smirk faltered slightly as she watched Link turn his gaze toward the glowing fountain.

"Come out, Gin," Link called. "Just for a moment."

The water rippled once again, and with a familiar, lazy sigh, Gin materialized, floating just above them in his Great Fairy form. His usual smirk was present, but there was a softness in his expression as he looked between the two.

"Didn't I just get done tellin' ya I was givin' ya privacy?" Gin teased, his silver hair drifting slightly as if caught in an invisible breeze. "Ya that impatient, Link?"

Link chuckled but kept his gaze steady. "I wouldn't call it impatience. I just wanted to ask for your blessing before I do this."

Gin raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Now this I gotta hear."

Link took a deep breath before continuing. "Gin… you were the first person to truly protect Rangiku, even when it meant making yourself the villain. You were important to her… maybe even her first love. And I know that, in some way, you'll always be part of her."

Rangiku's eyes widened slightly as Link spoke.

"That's why, before I ask her to be my wife," Link continued, "I wanted to ask you—will you give me your blessing to marry Rangiku?"

For the first time, Gin actually looked taken aback. His smirk faltered for just a second before he let out a quiet chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. "Huh. Can't say I expected that today."

He floated down slightly, his sharp, fox-like eyes locking onto Link's with an unreadable expression. Then he turned to Rangiku, studying her face for a long moment before sighing dramatically.

"Well, well… Guess I really did lose to ya, didn't I?" He grinned, but this time, there was something warm behind it. "But y'know what? I think it's 'bout time Rangiku got herself a man who won't up and disappear on her."

Rangiku swallowed hard, her eyes glistening as Gin's teasing tone softened.

"So, yeah," Gin said, looking back at Link. "Ya got my blessin'. Take care of her, Hero."

Link gave him a firm nod. "I will."

Gin floated backward, throwing Rangiku one last smirk. "And you? Still gonna cry over me, or ya finally movin' on?"

Rangiku smiled, wiping at her eyes as she let out a small laugh. "I'll always be grateful for you, Gin. Even if you had to do awful things to protect me… you still kept me safe."

Gin chuckled. "Heh. 'Course I did. That's what idiots in love do."

With one last knowing glance, Gin faded away into the glowing mist, his laughter echoing through the grotto before silence returned.

Rangiku exhaled slowly, staring at the now-still waters. "That man… always had a way of making an exit, huh?"

Link chuckled. "Yeah. Seems to be a habit."

Turning back to her, Link reached into his pocket and pulled something out—a small, intricate ring, crafted with an elegant silver band and inlaid with a soft, blue gemstone that shimmered like the night sky.

Rangiku blinked, her breath hitching slightly as Link met her gaze.

"Rangiku," he said, his voice steady. "I know I'm not always the easiest person to handle… I can be stubborn, reckless, and a little too determined at times." His lips quirked. "But I love you. And if you'll have me, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So…"

He held up the ring.

"Will you marry me?"

Rangiku didn't hesitate. With a wide, mischievous grin, she pulled him into a deep kiss, her arms wrapping around his neck as she practically tackled him onto the blanket.

As she pulled away, she smirked down at him. "As long as you teach me more about fairies… because I wanna help raise more of them."

Link grinned up at her. "Then it's a deal."

The fairies around them twinkled softly, their glow casting a warm light over the couple as the scene faded to black, their perfect night unfolding in the heart of the Fairy Grotto.

As the date with Rangiku came to a close, Link helped her to her feet, brushing a lock of hair from her face as she smiled up at him.

"That was perfect," she murmured, squeezing his hand.

"I'm glad," Link said, returning the gesture. "Head home, okay? I'll be right behind you. There's something I need to check before I leave."

Rangiku tilted her head, sensing something in his tone. "Something wrong?"

"Not wrong," Link assured her. "Just… something I need to confirm."

She studied him for a moment before nodding. "Alright. But don't take too long, hero."

With one last lingering kiss on his cheek, she turned and made her way out of the grotto. Link waited until her presence faded before shifting his attention back to the shimmering fountain.

"Gin," he called out.

The water stirred, rippling outward in elegant waves before the spectral figure of Gin materialized above it, floating lazily with his arms crossed.

"Didn't think I'd be seein' ya again so soon," Gin mused, his fox-like grin firmly in place. "Miss me already?"

Link ignored the jab, crossing his arms. "I need to ask you something."

Gin tilted his head. "Oh? What's on yer mind, hero?"

Link motioned to the grotto. "This place… it's too big. Bigger than any Fairy Grotto I've ever seen. And grottos aren't supposed to have two exits."

Gin's expression didn't shift, but the smirk in his voice lessened slightly.

"You've noticed, huh?" Gin drawled. "Guess I shouldn't be surprised."

Link nodded. "You've been here long enough. You must've seen someone else coming through here."

Gin let out a slow sigh. "Yeah. She's been here a few times now. Can't say I know her, but she sure as hell ain't from around here."

Link's eyes narrowed. "Who is she?"

Gin turned his gaze toward the far end of the grotto. "Young girl. Long black hair. Wears white—some kinda uniform with a skirt. Got a sharp tongue, too. Spent a lot of time grumblin' about somethin' called 'Sternritter' and how stupid they all are."

Link frowned. The name meant nothing to him, but from the way Gin said it, it sounded like something significant.

"She also mentioned somethin' else," Gin continued. "Somethin' about 'Soul Society's shadows.'"

"The shadows?" Link repeated, confused.

Gin shrugged. "Beats me. Whatever it is, she wasn't happy about it."

Link followed Gin's gaze to the far side of the grotto, where the second exit lay hidden behind a soft, shimmering glow. Unlike the bright, natural light of the main exit, this one had a strange darkness mixed into it, as though something unnatural lingered on the other side.

"She came through there?" Link asked.

Gin nodded. "Yep. And it ain't normal. Whatever's on the other side, it ain't part of Soul Society."

A heavy silence settled between them as Link processed the information. Someone was using the fairy grotto as a gateway—but to where? And for what purpose?

"I need to tell the others about this," Link finally said. "I won't go through yet—I want to see if I can meet this girl first."

Gin gave a short chuckle. "Heh. You really do like throwin' yourself into trouble, huh?"

Link smirked. "Only when it's necessary."

Gin waved a hand lazily. "Well, whatever you decide, just be careful. I may be dead, but I'd rather not spend eternity watchin' ya make dumb decisions."

Link chuckled before turning his gaze back to the mysterious exit, eyes narrowing. He needed more information.

For now, he would wait. But soon, he would find out who this girl was—and what she was doing in Soul Society's shadows.
