Chapter 90: Icy Rebirth Pt 2
Sonic is stuck at the bottom of the icy tower, to be used as an experiment, with Gene deeply interested in his control over the four elements via the powers of Chaos. Sonic is still inside the black ice, unable to move, while Sonic uses his fire magic to keep him warm but not enough to melt the black ice Gene made.
"Now you are within my domain. I want to see what you can do. Those runes on your body are quite interesting." Gene melts away the black ice to free him.
"Big mistake, Prince Charming," Sonic said still within his Mystic State to fly through the icy hallway but Gene appeared out of an ice mirror to toss several ice daggers. Sonic uses his deflection spell to knock them away and see him slip back into an ice mirror.
"I need you to understand why I am doing this and then maybe you can make peace with my choice," Gene said as Sonic shook his head.
"Doubtful," Sonic said as he saw a ton of ice mirrors around the hallways.
"Do you know about the past of Earth? Moebius's original name," Gene asked as several Ice Golems appeared out of the mirrors to attack Sonic. He curls into a ball to crave through the icy hides to deliver kicks and spin dash attacks.
"I know a bit but I think this world's history is similar to my world," Sonic said as he used a Boost attack to smash through them like a bullet to reduce them to piles of snow. He speeds through the tall tower that looms over the Northern Tundra.
Gene controls the entire tower like it's part of himself, making blocks and spikes that try to kill him. He smashes through the obstacles in his path. He bounces off the walls, with Gene coming out of the mirror to strike him with Black Ice.
"Diamond Rush," he curls up into a ball, his spines sharp as diamonds, craving through his black ice, which has a good counter against it.
"Impressive, you are quick on your feet," he pops back into a mirror to summon more golems trying to slow him down.
"It's what I do best cat prince," Sonic said as he boosted through the golems.
"Well, I need to step up my game," Gene said, as black ice blocks tried to slam him on both sides of the hallways.
"Light Speed Attack," Sonic powers up his body and releases his attack, using his sheer speed to break through the black ice.
Several ice bats are chasing him from behind, using the mirrors to try to cut him down, but he uses a set of Homing Attacks to take them down.
"Purge," Gene appears behind him to leash out beams of ice with him dodging him while kicking into the walls to break the mirrors trying to limit his movements. He summons an icy rapier to pop out of the mirror to cut into Sonic to reappear again but he curls up to block his hit.
"Try again," Sonic kicks Gene back into the mirror to get back to flying through the hallways to appear within a huge area within the icy tower.
"Well, I want you to look over in the corner. I have something from the past," Gene said as Sonic looked over to see a mural of an Earth city called Tokyo covered in smog and disrepair.
"What is this," Sonic said to feel discomfort by the imagery.
"A photo of Tokyo over 12000 years ago. It was once a city filled with culture and wonderful people but by the time of the 2070s. It was a polluted smog-covered hellhole filled with people suffering and powerful business tyrants ruling over them like animals," Gene said.
"Like Cyberpunk movies?" he asked.
"Pretty much. The rich and powerful ruled over the whole planet. All the democracies had fallen and all became tools for Mega corporations. Only becoming engines for their profits and the people being used as Corpo slaves," Gene said.
"That's terrible," Sonic said as he felt sadness from the photo.
"It was but karma got to those bastards in the end. The Xorda came to sort out an alliance but those idiots at the top killed the ambassador using him like an experiment and then stealing the ship for its technology. The Xorda fought back and wiped out the old world bringing forth Moebius today," Gene said to appear behind him to wield his rapier to thrust towards Sonic.
Sonic dodges but Gene summons a block of ice nearby him to lift him into the air. He calls down rows of ice needles to latch onto his fur to trigger a set of icy blasts. He comes in with his rapier to cut and stab.
"Sword Storm," he rapidly stabs Sonic over a hundred times, with each thrust getting stronger than the last. He delivers a powerful thrust, and Sonic barely dodges it, but Gene kicks him into a wall.
He summons a barrage of ice shards to rain down and strike Sonic several times over while he is dashing into Sonic via his ice mirror going at the light speed.
Sonic was weaving and dodging to kick him in the head to blast with a fireball to follow up with a spin dash into his chest. He delivers an upward kick to knock him into the air to engulf himself in flames to bounce off the walls to strike the princely swordman several times.
"Bounce on this," Sonic goes above Gene to use his Bounce Attack to slam into him multiple times with the hit getting stronger than the last. He hardens his quills like diamonds to deliver a crushing blow and then kicks him back into one of his mirrors.
"Not bad, you are seasoned. That will not be enough to weaken my resolve," Gene summons a large house-sized ice Cerberus. "Now my faithful hound, kill him," Gene ordered as the three-headed dog roared which shook the entire tower.
"What, you want me to take your dog for a walk," Sonic commented as the beast let out a deep blizzard filling the room, lowering the temperature.
"No time for jokes," Gene said through the three-headed dog. Ice Cerberus stomps its paws to surge out cold energy to knock Sonic away but he counters with him using Diamond Dash. He sees the hound summoning walls of black ice but Sonic can pierce through the thick icy walls to crash into one of the heads to send it flying across the room.
"Flame Tornado," Sonic summons a twister of flame to encircle the beast to roast it inside. "Sonic Wind," he emits several wind crescents to crave into the beast mixing into the tornado getting stronger until it violently implodes. He uses a Homing Attack to gain distance to strike the left head to use Spin Dash to weaken it.
"Embrace the frost," Gene commanded as the Cerberus spews frost from its maws making the room even colder with Sonic's fire magic not keeping up.
"Damn it," Sonic said as he uses Grave to unleash several stone spikes to impale the monster to use his Flame Arrow to slam into the monster. He makes a Flame Shield to better protect against the cold by using his Burning Homing Attack to hit the left head several times until he uses a spin dash to sever the left head leaving two heads left.
He uses his Bounce Attack to crash into the giant mullet's back to leap into the air to avoid getting hit with twin beams of ice from the dog's mouth. Sonic goes into Diamond Dash to muscle through the ice attacks to slam into the beast's body.
"Aqua Edge," Mystic Sonic conjures several water discs to crave into the right head, cutting into its face. The two heads launch ice orbs, with Sonic blasting them out of the air and conjuring rows of rock spikes to impale the monster.
"Your spell weaving is impressive," Gene said as Sonic used his Flame Arrow to cut into the weak right head to destroy it on impact leaving one head left.
"Aqua Laser," Sonic summons a beam of high-pressure beam of water to slam into the head of the monster dog to punch through its skull killing it instantly to become a pile of snow on the icy floor.. Gene is not happy that one of his constructs was destroyed by Sonic.
"Well you destroyed another favorite of my creations, come forward and see the rest of my plan," Gene said through the ice mirrors as Sonic sped off to go into a small section to see a bunch of large photos on the walls showing off a battlefield with Humans and Mobians fighting each other.
"A battle between two peoples," Sonic said.
"Yes. During the time in the past, Humans thought Mobians were freaks meant to be wiped out but the Mobians outnumbered humanity 12 to 1. Humans once again lost the war and pushed them down into the underground. Relationships between the species were deeply scarred," Gene said
"But you are a Demi-Human," Sonic said as Gene touched his long cat tail to tenderly stroke it.
"Yes my Mobian mother and human father loved each other but when the humans found out. They killed them both and found me when I was little. I was called a freak of nature I was put on ice within a pod to be sent to the North Pole," Gene said.
"And your ice magic?" Sonic asked.
"It's a natural gift I have gotten when I was born. I learned to control it on my own when I was sent into the Northern Tundra where I lived until now," Gene said.
Sonic looks over at another photo which shows a beach with a ton of fish beached on the sands. "What in the world is this," Sonic said feeling deeply saddened by the image.
"Humanity has gone gravely damaged to the seas along with the rest of the planet. Their greed has managed to implode the oceans leading to a complete collapse of the environment. This led to unforeseen consequences like the oxygen levels imploding and entire species going extinct. The cycle of abuse has pushed the planet to the brink within the 2070s," Gene said.
"I remember in my world. Things like shark finning are banned," Sonic said.
"Then your world learned its lesson while this world did not. Humanity played god and the Earth was dying due to their selfish desires. Now the Mobians are doing the same thing as in those dreadful times. Greed and selfishness overcame kindness and honor.
"There are still people here who deserve a second chance. Bunnie has done awful things but she is willing to change," Sonic said.
"Maybe that is true but Smalls and Miles who have real power will never change. Their empires are just like the powerful corporate empires in the past. They along with their minions will only choke the planet until there is nothing left. But there will be no alien second chance like last time. With the power of Chaos energy, I will spread my ice magic over the planet covering it in a sheet of ice and purging all the evils of this world to give it a proper rebirth where new life can begin a new," Gene said as Sonic shakes his head.
"I understand where you are coming from but this stunt will involve some good people getting killed. Now I am more ready to take you out despite your mission," Sonic said as Gene sighed at this.
"I wish Scourge was more like you but I have gone too far now. Come to my chambers and then we will fight for the faith of this world," Gene said as Sonic busted through the door to see Silver locked in ice.
"Silver," he uses his fire magic to burn away the icy coffin to free him. "Yo, you okay Silver?" he asked.
"Gee, my fur is shaken. Thanks, Sonic," Silver said as Silver made a dome of psychic energy but Gene's ice beams crack it open. Sonic knocks the beam away to let out a gust of wind to blow Gene away.
"Silver, go get Bunnie. I will deal with Prince Charming here," Sonic said as Gene was floating in the air to gather orbs of ice around his body.
"I will win and then the planet will turn to ice," Gene said to raise his rapier to summon the three Anarchy Beryl above him to empower his body to enhance his magic getting ready to put his plan into motion.
"Time to dance," Sonic clashes with the ice mage to slam into his body to be reduced to snow.
"You hit one of my ice clones," Gene comes in from the mirror to dash into Sonic to cut into him with his rapier. Several clones speed towards Sonic but he uses his wind spell to block them away to use his Homing Attack to take out each clone turning them back into snow.
He kicks a clone to the side and grabs onto his arm to toss the clone into a mirror breaking it on impact. Gene lets out a powerful wave of ice to push Sonic backwards but he uses his Flame Arrow to dash into Gene to send him into a mirror.
He drops one of the Anarchy Beryl with Sonic grabbing one for himself. "Enough, Flash Freeze," Gene empowers his rapier to send out a wave of cold energy which is freezing the entire area about to hit Sonic.
"Chaos Control," he triggers the powers of Chaos stopping time to use his speed to blitz through the ice spell to slam into Gene multiple times to appear behind him. He snaps his fingers to resume time with Gene taking the full brunt of Sonic's attacks.
He leaps into the air to deliver a powerful kick onto Gene's back to launch him across the room.
"What in the world?" Gene summons hundreds of ice clones to pop out of the ice mirrors beyond the speed of light but Sonic uses Chaos Control to freeze the hundred clones. He uses a powerful fire spell to melt them all away with him using a set of Burning Homing Attacks to strike Gene.
"You can use Chaos Energy better than me?" he questioned as Sonic was weaving and dodging his ice spells and sword thrusts.
"I had a lot of practice since I was a kid," Sonic said to leash out several kicks to begin using Chaos Snap to teleport around kicking Gene like a pinball within the vast icy room. He goes down with his body covered in flames to tackle Gene.
Gene summons his black ice dome to block his attack but Sonic uses the Anarchy Beryl to empower his attack to melt right through the black ice and slam into him to have enough force to knock Gene through the 100-floor tower reaching the bottom creating a big crater down below.
"Yo Sonic, I found Bunnie. I freed her and we are heading for the jet," Silver said on the radio.
"Cool, I am finishing up now," Sonic said going down the hole he made to see Gene was badly wounded with his limbs being broken.
"Well you won this battle but someone else will do what I try to do. Rewrite the world and give it a clean start," Gene said.
"By killing everyone, no chance. There are still people here who are worth protecting. When they come up, I will stop them too," Sonic said.
"You stopped my frost but there will be someone who will overwhelm you and consume this world. Beg on that Sonic," Gene said to die within the crater with the two Anarchy Beryl beside him.
"Cool, three more to the collection. Now we got 16 gemstones and only 5 left to go," Sonic said to fly out of there. The icy tower collapses on top of the dead icy noble with his plan ending.
Ivo and Belle detected the icy weather had suddenly stopped. "Seems like the others managed to deal with the threat," Ivo said.
"Good work guys," Belle said as Anti Eggman caught his breath.
"We don't need any more things coming out of the past," Ivo said as they are closer to leaving this world behind forever.
Elsewhere within her lab, Anti Nicole is getting great results with the Metal Virus turning into more subjects like animals, Mobians, and even plants becoming metallic. "This Metal Virus is the key to changing the status quo of this world. Scourge, Smalls, Miles, and others have managed to push this world beyond repair," Nicole said gathering research from the northern Tundra about status of the humanity in the ancient past which matched the way the world is right now.
"Everything is repeating itself. I need to break this cycle and my power will do that," Anti Nicole is getting closer to her plans to reshape the world and beyond.
