Surprise! Happy New Year, everyone. Hope you guys are all doing well so far. We are back with the first chapter of the new year. It took a while because there were some things Music Chick and I wanted to get right. I'm sure that you all will find it worth the wait.
Let's get right to it!
Ken's head spun around like he stuck it in a washing machine. He tried mightily to wrap his head around what had happened a short while ago and why he was standing in the middle of a hospital waiting room with a bunch of crying children and adults. Unfortunately, his mind wasn't willing to cooperate with him. It had completely shut down as a result of all he had witnessed. The world around him was completely out of focus and not getting any clearer.
His two children and the majority of the new Destined Jedi sat in chairs with either their heads in their hands or in the comforting embrace of whatever parent had come. Davis held Ichigo in his arms as the boy cried in his neck. Cody held both Miya and Ryuji close like he was scared to let go of them. Kenya was with his mother and father, staying close as Tai comforted Sora with a hug and rub of her back. Naomi did the same with her parents, standing beside them silently as she seemed to be off in a different zone. Mimi was a blubbering mess as Izzy did his best to comfort her.
That was nothing compared to Shun and Masato. The two eldest boys of the group were off in a corner separated from everyone else. Makoto stayed close to his brothers, but didn't try to engage them. His face was awash with worry and concern. Jun held Masato and Shun close to her, stroking their heads comfortingly. From the time they got back, Masato had gone into what Ken assumed to be a catatonic state. He had not said a word since they reached the hospital. His attempts to pry out what happened proved unsuccessful and it seemed Makoto and Jun hadn't done much better.
Whatever happened in the Digital World, it was serious. He had more than half a brain to scold the kids for going off without telling him or any one of the other adults. Seeing the state they all were in, as well as the more pressing concern surrounding Yuki, Kazuma and Shiro forced him to postpone whatever lecture he had planned. Now was not the time for that. The important thing was making sure those boys were okay.
The three boys suddenly collapsed without warning as soon as they emerged from the portal. It happened as quickly as the time it took to blink. He would never forget the sight of their eyes rolling back in their heads before falling over to their sides. For a second, he thought they were dead. Luckily, he felt a pulse in each of them when he checked and so he and the other adults wasted no time in getting them off to the hospital. The only one he could think of was the one Joe worked at, which was about ten minutes by car from Davis' restaurant.
Ken looked to his left and saw Matt doing everything in his power to ease Meiko's sadness. He was still dressed in his white collared shirt and blue and silver striped tie that he wore to work. Meiko was also still in her veterinarian coat. He could only imagine the pain that they both were going through at this time. Kazuma had been the whole world to them since the day he was born. Matt was doing everything he could to stay strong, but the turmoil was clear on his face.
The longer Ken surveyed the scene before him, one question continued to pound his brain and refuse to die down.
Who, or what, attacked the children and caused Yuki, Kazuma and Shiro to fall unconscious?
His eyes caught sight of one of the double doors being pushed open. Joe then emerged from the other side. At last. Hopefully he could give them all some answers. He felt hope swell up inside of his chest as he waited for the former Destined Jedi of Reliability to speak.
Joe glanced down at his clipboard and gave a look that Ken could not quite discern. He adjusted his glasses before he spoke.
"The three of them are okay," he said. "Their vitals are all functioning normally and their brain activity is still normal. Everything is as it should be."
Before anyone could say anything or sigh in relief, he continued.
"However, they are more or less in a comatose state. I'm not sure when they'll wake up, if at all. I know that will bring back some bad memories for us, but rest assured that they will be given the best care possible. That I am sure about."
The three pairs of concerned parents swarmed him, begging for more details. Ken backed off and turned his attention to the Kido boys. Makoto gave him a sad glance as he walked by. He smiled reassuringly and patted the teen's hand. He'd find out what was wrong. Shun and Masato were pale and had far off looks in their eyes. Neither of them gave Ken a glance as he squatted down between the two of them.
"Boys," he said in a gentle voice. He had questioned more than enough child witnesses over the years so he was able to do this quite easily. The key was to be patient and empathetic so that they opened up. "I know this is hard, but I need you to tell me what happened in the Digital World. I promise I won't get mad about you all going off without one of us. Okay?"
Shun visibly bit his lip, but no words came out of his mouth. He turned his head into his mother's chest. Ken sighed softly. He wasn't going to talk. Ken then turned his attention to his brother. Masato's eyes stayed in that glazed over, far off state for a few seconds before he slowly saw them come back to the present.
"That laugh. Those eyes," the teenager mumbled. He steadily chanted that under his breath.
Ken laid a comforting hand on his. "Take it easy, Masato," he said softly. "You're safe now. Whatever it was can't hurt you anymore. Who or what was it?"
Masato kept muttering under his breath. Ken squeezed his hands to try and bring him back to earth while Jun kissed the top of Masato's head. The teenager stopped and looked at him. He was trying to focus, but that glazed over look still lingered.
"A demon," he said in a grave voice, looking back down at his feet.
Ken cocked an eyebrow. "A demon?" he asked curiously.
Masato nodded. "That laugh. It came out of nowhere. Had no time to prepare. It came. It…"
Ken could barely understand a word he said next as Masato mumbled so fast under his breath. It seemed he was back in that catatonic state he had been in earlier. He had completely withdrawn. Whatever the group had seen was frightening enough to render Masato Kido of all people like this. He wondered what it could have been.
Joe finally came over a few moments later after seemingly pacifying the group of concerned parents. The first thing he did was pull both of his sons from Jun's hug and into a hug with himself, whispering comforting words to them. Shun and Masato clung tightly to their father. Ken backed away to give the family some space together.
After a few moments together, Joe turned and met Ken's eyes. Neither of them said a word as they looked at each other uneasily. Ken bit his lip.
"I'll have a nurse bring them something warm to drink," Joe said. "I think they both could use it right now."
Ken nodded as he watched Joe walk to the reception desk. Ken went up and patted Masato and Shun on their knees before he backed away. He instructed Makoto to help Jun keep an eye on them, which the teenage boy agreed to right away.
Ken sat down in a chair and buried his face in his hands. What was this new devilry? And why did he have a feeling that it was connected to the figure that invaded the Kamiya house?
Or maybe…it was the same one.
Miya did everything in her power to keep from crying as she watched Yuki lay still on the bed like a mummy in a sarcophagus. She stroked the back of his hand with one hand while clutching it tightly with the other. Once Dr. Kido said that the group could visit the comatose boys, she came in with Mr. and Mrs. Kamiya to see Yuki and insisted that she stay behind after they left. She was not going to leave his side for anything.
Her eyes traveled up his arm, noting the IV needle embedded in the pit of his elbow. A clasp enclosed the index finger on his other hand, sending signals to the heart rate monitor on the other side of the bed. It let out beeps at a steady interval, letting her know that his heart was still beating. Just knowing he was still alive lifted a weight off of her heart. She initially thought he was dead when he passed out back at Ichigo's secret base.
Because only two could be placed in a hospital room together, Shiro was put in a separate room just two doors down. Naomi had stopped in to see Kazuma a little while ago before going off to stay with her little brother. She stayed with Yuki for only a second before she left. Miya didn't keep track of the time, but Naomi stayed by Kazuma's side longer than she did with the boy that was supposed to be her boyfriend.
Miya frowned. And this was the girl Yuki was head over heels for? If only he was awake to know.
Yuki looked almost angelic right now. She couldn't help but giggle. As if he couldn't be more handsome than she thought. That giggle took her out of the zone she had locked herself into and awakened her to what was going on around her.
"Sleep, little one, 'neath the moon's silver shine. O sweet prince of mine."
Miya looked away from Yuki and towards where she heard the singing coming from. The voice was low and full of sadness, but loud enough that she could hear it. Mr. and Mrs. Ishida stood on either side of Kazuma's bed. Mrs. Ishida was the one singing as she swept her fingers through her son's blonde bangs. Tears streamed down her face like rain.
"Everything is quiet. Drift off to sleep, o sweet prince of mine." The dark-haired woman leaned closer to Kazuma's face. "Good night," she finished, her voice sounding like she had a hand around her throat. She kissed Kazuma on the forehead before she completely broke down.
Mrs. Ishida buried her face into the blankets and sobbed. Mr. Ishida was by her side in a second, cradling her into his chest. He rubbed her back as she cried against him. His sharp blue eyes brimmed with tears, but he stayed as strong as he could.
"It's okay. It's okay," Miya heard him say. "Our little prince is going to be okay, Meiko. Joe said he would."
His words didn't seem to pacify his wife as she continued crying in his chest.
Miya sat up straight as the blonde-haired man looked her way.
"Promise me you'll keep watch over them, Miya," he said, his voice rough like he had swallowed sand. "And let us know if Kazuma wakes up."
She nodded. "Of course, Mr. Ishida. I promise," she said. "I'm staying here anyway so I don't mind doing that."
Her eyes went back to the orange-haired boy on the bed in front of her. There was no way she was leaving his side for anything. Not until he woke up. A shadow washed over her. She looked up. Mr. Ishida now stood beside her, still keeping his wife against his chest with a smile on his face. He rested his hand on Miya's shoulder.
"Thank you." Mr. Ishida took a glance at Yuki. She then saw his sincere smile transform into a wryly one. "I think Tai and Sora will appreciate the fact that Yuki has his own personal nurse to look after him," he said.
Miya let go of Yuki's hand to cover the ever-growing redness that was flooding over her face. That was so unexpected, and so unnerving. Did Mr. Ishida suspect something? She tried to stop it, but her body acted on instinct and she chewed on the nail of her ring finger. Miya had been doing such a good job of not doing it lately, but now all that progress went out the window.
Mr. Ishida chuckled and patted her shoulder again. "I'm only joking," he said. "I know that they appreciate you looking after him. And I appreciate you for watching my son too. Please let us know if something happens."
Miya nodded and stopped chewing her fingernail to answer. "I will."
The man smiled once more and escorted his wife out of the room. She still clung tight to him like a sloth to a tree branch. Once the door shut, Miya was now left alone with both boys. The only one eating up her attention was the boy in front of her. The steady beeps of the heart monitors filled the room.
Miya reached up and used her fingers to brush Yuki's bangs to the side. Her whole face became hot once again. She never realized just how handsome he was when he was asleep. He already was handsome, but even more so like this. Did Naomi know about this? If not, then she'd gladly keep this little secret to herself.
The Ichijouji girl lifted Yuki's hand and pressed the back of it against her cheek. She savored how soft and warm his hand was. It was limp like a dead fish, but just feeling Yuki like this made her heart beat faster. Being this close to him was something she always wanted. She softly kissed the back of his hand before laying it back down.
Even though he was unconscious, Miya could not help but wonder –did he know that she was with him? Naturally, when one was in a state of unconsciousness like this, there were no visible signs to go by that would tell her that. Was this what it was like? Not being aware of anything and being trapped inside of yourself? That had to be a scary and lonely feeling. If only there was something she could do to let him know she was there, even on a subconscious level. After all, Mrs. Ishida –
Her eyes widened. That's it! Maybe singing a song to him would help, even just to set her mind at ease. There was only one song that came to her head and she did not hesitate to sing it.
"Your voice is my guiding light," she softly sang. Goosebumps ran down her arms as tears instantly welled up in her eyes. That song always reduced her to a crying mess whenever she heard it, but she had to be strong here for Yuki. She stroked the back of his hand as she continued singing. "A sparrow cries out, looking for me within a nameless sky. I will head for tomorrow, in this cradle woven from kindness. Be it a day of rain, or a day of sunshine, I will be there to protect you."
The tears finally seeped down Miya's cheeks. A case of the sniffles attacked her nose. She could never keep it together after hearing those lines. Even so, she did not dare stop to wipe the tracks away.
"A treasure more valuable than all. A nameless flower, lies in peace."
Miya took a deep breath. The song was finally finished. She took a moment to wipe her eyes with the back of her hand. It was embarrassing to be this vulnerable in front of the boy she liked, even with him unconscious. She looked at his face to see any kind of reaction to her song.
Nothing but the sounds of oxygen flowing and the beep of the heart monitor.
Miya kissed the back of his hand once again. At least she could hope that he knew she was there with him, wherever his mind was now. She chuckled. It was so easy to be around him when he was like this.
How was it that she could barely keep herself together around him when he was awake but feel so at ease when he was asleep? Maybe because she could say whatever she wanted and he would do nothing but listen. Yuki always had to dominate the conversation, so it was a rare moment where he would listen quietly.
She blushed again. Maybe now would be a good time to say her deepest secret. It wouldn't necessarily count, but it would help.
A cough broke the silence.
Miya snapped to attention. It didn't come from her, nor did it come from either Yuki or Kazuma. A quick check confirmed that. That meant someone else had come into the room. She looked over her shoulder and saw her little brother standing near the doorway.
"Hi, Ryu-Ryu," she said sweetly. Of all people it had to be, why did it have to be her brother? He had been behaving weird around her whenever they were alone lately. "If you're here to see them, there's nothing to –"
"Could I stay here with you?"
Miya was taken aback by the question. She knew he would not like the answer she had for him, so she thought of how to gently decline.
"I'm fine," she said. "I'm just keeping watch over Yuki and Kazu in case something happens. Why don't you go check on Shiro? I'm sure Naomi would love to have your company right now."
Ryuji frowned. She had seen that look more than enough times to know he was digging in rather than acquiescing to her wishes.
"I don't want to check on Shiro!" he shouted. "I want to stay here with you."
"Ryu, use your indoor voice. This is a hospital," Miya admonished her brother. "I promise I'll spend time with you later. This is something that's very important to me right now."
"I want to stay with you!" Ryuji repeated.
"No!"
"Please!"
"No!"
"PLEASE!"
He kept saying it, each time growing in intensity. For the first time in a long time, Miya found herself getting progressively frustrated with her brother. Why couldn't he take a hint that she wanted to be left alone?
"You belong to me! Not him!" Ryuji stated as he stomped over, took her hands and yanked her away from Yuki's bed with such intensity that it gave Miya pause.
She never saw her brother be that protective and jealous before. It gave an odd air. She yanked her hands away, her hands tightened into fists. She desperately tried to stop what was coming, but Miya's emotions overrode her logic.
"No! Leave me alone for a while! I don't want you here!"
She instantly regretted those words as soon as they left her mouth. A horrible feeling of guilt washed over her. She had not yelled at Ryuji in a long time. She never wanted to upset him, but all the stress of what happened in the Digital World and seeing Yuki in this state pushed her over the edge. Her brother looked at her with big, blue eyes that were quickly filling up with tears.
Before Miya could say anything, Ryuji ran out of the room crying. She bowed her head sadly and turned her attention back to Yuki. She didn't want to have her brother around right now, but that didn't mean she wanted to upset him that much. She told herself she'd apologize to him later as she sat back down by Yuki's side and swept her fingers through Yuki's hair once again. He was all that she was focused on right now.
After a brief glance at Kazuma, who was still lying on the bed peacefully, her heart skipped a beat as she gazed upon the boy in front of her reverently.
Why did he have to drive her so crazy? Why did the sight of him make her so excited and make her feel so out of control? It was honestly beautifully scary even if she was not the one Yuki had his eye on. There was no point of telling him how she felt because of that fact. He and Naomi may have been best friends for longer, but Miya knew him on a level that Naomi never could. She knew his heart. And it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen.
She longed to tell him how she truly felt, but she'd always get tongue-tied and not be able to speak. If she could just get her feelings out, it would be a big weight off of her chest.
If she couldn't tell him while he was awake, maybe telling him while he was asleep would be easier.
"Sorry about that," she said, holding the orange-haired boy's hand. "I love Ryu, but he sometimes thinks he's my keeper and that he needs to be with me at all times. It's cute, but I can look after myself. Especially since you need me more right now, Yuki."
Miya took a deep breath. She noticed something on his cheek.
"You've still got some dirt on your face," she giggled. She used her thumb to wipe the smudge away until it was gone. "There. All gone."
She let out a deep sigh. Her heart was pounding. A feeling of lightheadedness washed over her. She felt queasy all over. There was nothing else to distract her anymore.
"It's so easy to talk to you when you're like this," Miya said. She swiped her hand through his hair once more. "Don't get me wrong, Yuki. I want you to wake up so badly." A lump formed in her throat. "It hurts me to see your parents so upset. Your mom is devastated. I just want you to know that so for the next time you get upset with her, you know how much she loves you and what you mean to her." She bit her lip. "And how much you mean to me too," she added quietly.
Miya squealed as she buried her face in her hands. She couldn't believe she just said that out loud. It was so embarrassing! He probably would have laughed at her if she said that to his face. Even so, she did it. She got over the first hump, which was verbally acknowledging her feelings. The rest shouldn't be so hard now. She took another deep breath, trying to control her galloping heart.
"Yuki, I know you would be surprised to hear this, but I'm not mad at you for shrugging me off that night with Naomi anymore. I'm also not mad at you for what happened today. I could never be mad at you. The reason I can't…is because–"
Just as she was about to say those magic words, a moan reached her ears. Miya was so lost in getting her words right that she wasn't aware of anything going on around her. It sounded like it came from right below her. The next thing Miya realized, she was staring into a pair of crimson eyes.
Yuki was awake!
Her entire face exploded with redness and she squeaked before quickly retreating back into her chair. Why did Yuki have to wake up now? She was almost there, but then the fates had to interject and be cruel to her.
"M-Miya?" Yuki said, his voice hoarse.
She took a deep breath to get herself under control and then smiled as she stroked his hand. "Hi. Welcome back. You're in the hospital right now."
Another soft groan came from across the way. Miya looked over at Kazuma's bed and saw the blonde waking up. A shout of happiness could be heard from across the hall. If she had to guess, it came from Shiro's room.
"Wh-What happened?" Yuki asked, looking around. "Why am I in the hospital?"
"Open a portal for us, Masato."
The teenage boy bit his lip, still refusing to do what he was asked. Even after a mug of hot chocolate, he wasn't back to his old self quite yet. He was still fairly quiet and timid. Tai understood his feelings, but this was not the time to dwell on that.
He and Ken decided to go to where the children were attacked to see what they could find. If he found whoever the attacker was, then he'd make them pay for what they did to his son. Luckily, he hooked his lightsaber onto his belt before he and Sora came to the hospital just in case. Now if Masato would only do the job.
Ken, Tai, Joe, Masato and Shun all stood in a restroom with the door locked. The former soccer star clenched his fists at his sides the longer the teenager stayed quiet. He was getting more and more frustrated by the lack of action, but he didn't dare lash out. He looked at the teenager's younger brother.
"Shun?"
Shun's eyes darted to the side to avoid making eye contact. His hands folded across his front. His right one rubbed against the back of his left nervously. A low growl slipped out of Tai's mouth. He was reaching his breaking point. It did not matter how scared they were. Someone was going to open a portal for him and Ken to go in and check things out.
Tai stomped toward the younger of the two teenagers and kindly, but firmly, grabbed his shoulders.
"Shun, I need you to do this for us," he said in an even but firm voice. "We want to help you all. The last time we ignored a threat, it almost destroyed all of us. You need to let us help you. Please?"
He felt a hand rest on his shoulder. "Tai, stop it. That's not the way to ask right now."
Tai looked up and saw Ken behind him. After a brief flash of eye contact, he sucked in a breath and let go of Shun's shoulders. He then backed away with his hands on his head. He felt terrible for treating both boys like this. They were only this way because they were scared. Being angry at them was not going to make Yuki wake up and it sure wasn't going to change what happened to them.
"Let's try this again," Ken said in a kind voice. "Could you please do this for us, boys? You'd be doing us a big favor. We want to figure out what this thing is so we can help you beat it. Can you help us do that?"
Tai watched as the brothers glanced at each other. They didn't move or say a word for a long few moments.
"Joe?" Ken said to Joe and waited. There wasn't much else said as Ken and Joe silently stared at each other, as if one dad was asking the other for help.
"It's okay, you two," said Joe, stepping up to the plate. "I know you're scared, but you need to find the courage to do this. It'll really help them." He reassuringly smiled. "I love you both so much and I'm so proud of you."
Hearing their father's words seemed to light a fire under Shun and Masato. After a moment of looking at each other, they nodded slowly.
Tai smiled. Deferring more leadership of the group to Ken was the right decision to make. He was more skilled in handling situations like these because of how naturally kind and empathetic he was.
"Thank you, boys," Tai said before turning to Ken. "Ken, do you have a spare earpiece for one of them?"
The dark-haired man nodded. "Yes." He reached into his pocket and handed it to Masato. "Take this and wait for orders."
Masato accepted the device and put it in his ear. Tai put his in along with Ken. It had been a long time since he'd used it, but it felt exciting to get back in the saddle again. For many years, he wanted nothing more than to just live a peaceful, quiet life with his family and never have to worry about the Digital World again. Unfortunately, fate was not so kind but since it was put upon him, he may as well roll with it.
A large, purple vortex split through the bathroom mirrors and sinks, beckoning the two men to go inside. Tai gestured for Ken to go through first. Ken gladly accepted and stepped through. Tai smiled at the Kido boys, telling them that everything would be fine, before he followed Ken into the portal.
When he emerged on the other side, his threat detector went off the charts. He and Ken were in the darkest forest he could ever imagine. The air weighed down heavily on his shoulders as he looked around.
The two men stood in the middle of a clearing, but were still surrounded on all sides by trees. Not a single sound could be heard, almost like the whole world had gone silent. Everything was the darkest black he had ever seen in his life.
Tai looked down and saw his clothes had changed into his orange short-sleeved tunic with a burnt orange symbol of Courage etched into the fabric. His pants were the same burnt orange color while the sleeve on his right arm matched the orange of his tunic. He smiled. Ken was dressed in all black. If it weren't for his ivory skin, Tai would have not been able to see him against the backdrop of the forest.
"What do we do now?" he asked, his voice coming out soft.
Ken pointed to the other side of the clearing. "You go over there. I'll stay on this side and see if I can find some clues."
Tai nodded. "Okay."
With his anxiety at an all time high, Tai stepped carefully across the ground, making sure not to make a sound. His eyes scanned the trees above for any signs of this figure. He saw nothing. Even so, Tai wasn't dumb. He knew that didn't mean nothing was there. A chill went down his spine. Tai plucked his lightsaber off his belt.
The royal blue blade emerged with a piercing sound and hummed softly. Tai felt more secure having it out and his anxiety responded by settling down to manageable levels. Another advantage to having it out was the light that it provided. He could see the ground as it was bathed in blue light.
He scanned the dirt, moss and grass below a couple of times. Nothing that seemed out of the ordinary could be seen. Even so, Tai did not feel secure in this knowledge so he tried again. This time, he saw something that sent another shiver down his spine.
"Ken, over here!" he called softly. "Come check this out."
The dark-haired man came to his side. "What is it?" he asked.
Tai pointed to a patch of grass a couple of feet from him. There was a footprint embedded in it. That wasn't what scared Tai. What scared him was the kind of footprint it was. It was one that could only be made by a human foot. Based on the look of it, the footprint had been freshly made a short while ago. Tai looked around, now more anxious than before. Somebody was out there.
"You think it's human?" Ken asked.
"I don't know. Maybe it's a humanoid Digimon?"
"I don't think so. Most humanoid Digimon's feet don't make footprints like this based on my experience." Ken kneeled down to examine the footprint. He pressed his hand into the larger part of it. "Looks like the bottom of geta sandals," he said. "Know of any humanoid Digimon that wear geta sandals?"
Tai shook his head. "None that I can recall off the top of my head." He looked closely at the print. "It's too big to belong to one of the kids. Think it could be Masato's?"
Ken shook his head. "No. This is too big to be his." He looked up and scanned the tree line. "The tracks lead away from here. Maybe whoever it was just passed through."
Tai nodded. Even so, something did not feel right. His eyes drifted across the tree limbs above him. The wind groaned ominously as it made its way through the clearing. Tai bit down on his lip and clutched the hilt of his saber a little tighter. His breath came out ragged.
SNAP!
Tai jumped back, pointing his saber in the direction of the noise. It sounded like a twig being snapped under someone's foot. He looked at the ground and saw that he didn't step on one. Neither had Ken.
Someone, or something, else was here with them.
A bead of sweat dripped down his forehead and temple.
"We should leave now," he told Ken. "Don't tell me you didn't hear that just now."
"Hear what?" Ken asked, looking back at him.
Tai's eyes darted from side to side. "There's something else here with us," he said, struggling to keep his fear at bay. "We have to go. Now." He pressed the microphone button on the earpiece. "Masato, open the portal. We're ready to come back."
"Okay. Just a second," replied Masato.
As Tai waited for the familiar sound of the vortex to come, the sounds of the forest again fell completely silent as if waiting for something to happen. After a moment that passed as quickly as it took for a heart to beat, it came.
The sound resonated through Tai's body like lightning. A cold, maniacal laugh filled the entire clearing. The terrible sound bounced off the trees, making it sound like it was coming from all sides. Tai's head spun in all directions. He had never been so scared in his entire life.
"HURRY UP, MASATO!" he shouted into the microphone. The laughter was getting closer by the second.
"It's open!" Masato shouted.
Tai then was pulled back. As quick as it took to blink, he was back in the bathroom with Ken. The portal was now closed. His heart pounded inside of his chest with the power of ten horses at full gallop. The adrenaline rush left him feeling nauseous.
"That. Was. Freaky," he said before he and Ken locked eyes. "What now, Ken?"
Ken bit his lip and shook his head.
