Chapter 18: Love and a New Mission
After the brutal battle with Vegeta, Kara and Superman carried the severely injured Goku to the DEO. His body was battered, muscles strained to their limit from the overwhelming force of Kaioken x5. Even so, through the pain, he managed his usual carefree grin.
"I'll be fine," he reassured them, his voice hoarse but filled with confidence.
The DEO's advanced healing technology worked quickly, but even then, his recovery wasn't as rapid as Kara's under the yellow sun. A full day of treatment later, Goku began to regain his strength.
But Kara wasn't relieved. She was angry.
"You're reckless, Goku!" she snapped, standing over his recovery bed, arms crossed tightly over her chest.
Goku blinked, tilting his head. "What did I do this time?"
Kara's hands clenched into fists at her sides. "You used Kaioken x5. Do you even understand what that could've done to you?" Her voice trembled. "You could've died, Goku! And this time, we wouldn't have been able to bring you back."
He scratched the back of his head, his smile fading. "I guess I didn't really think about that… I just wanted to protect everyone."
Kara's breath hitched. Her blue eyes shimmered with unshed tears. "You always do this," she whispered. "You throw yourself into danger without a second thought. You push yourself beyond your limits, and you never stop to think about what that does to the people who care about you." Her voice cracked. "What it does to me."
The weight of her words hit Goku harder than any punch. He had fought gods, defied death, traveled across galaxies—but this? Seeing her in pain because of him? That hurt more than anything.
"Kara…" He reached out for her, but she stepped back, shaking her head.
"I almost lost you today," she choked out. "And I can't—I won't—go through that again."
For once, Goku didn't have a response.
Before either of them could speak again, a sudden burst of light filled the room. Mr. Popo materialized before them, his expression calm and unreadable.
"Goku," he said, his voice steady as always. "There may be a way to bring back your friends."
The air in the room grew still.
"What do you mean?" Superman asked.
Mr. Popo's gaze remained unwavering. "Kami originally came from a distant planet—a world called Namek. It is said that Namek has its own set of Dragon Balls, far more powerful than those of Earth."
Kara frowned. "Namek? That name… I've seen it before. Kryptonian star charts contain records of that world."
"That's great!" Goku exclaimed, his energy returning. He immediately grabbed a communicator and called Bulma.
"Bulma!" Goku said excitedly over the call. "We need to go to a planet called Namek. Can you modify my old spaceship so we can get there?"
Bulma blinked on the other end. "Uh… Namek? I've never even heard of it, Goku. How am I supposed to find a planet I don't know exists?"
"Oh!" Goku grinned, looking over at Kara. "Don't worry—Kara knows where it is! She'll give you the coordinates."
Kara nodded and stepped forward. "Bulma, I've seen Namek's location in Kryptonian star charts. I'll send you the exact coordinates."
Bulma sighed in relief. "Well, that helps. But even so, Goku, space travel isn't simple! Even if I modify your Saiyan pod, it'll take forever to get there."
"Can you make it faster?" Goku asked. "And… could you add a gravity chamber? One that can go up to a hundred times Earth's gravity?"
Bulma groaned. "You just love making my life difficult, don't you? Ugh, fine! Give me a couple of weeks, and I'll have something ready."
"Thanks, Bulma!" Goku said, grinning.
As the days passed, Goku's strength returned at an incredible rate. His power had grown, despite him not training since the battle.
Superman observed him curiously. "Your energy… it's stronger than before. How is that possible?"
Goku thought for a moment. "Oh yeah! King Kai mentioned something about that. Saiyans get stronger every time they survive a near-death experience."
Kara stared at him in disbelief. "So… you put yourself through all that pain, knowing it could kill you, just to get stronger?"
Goku rubbed the back of his neck. "Not exactly. I was just trying to do my best."
"That's not good enough!" Kara's voice cracked, raw emotion spilling over. "You don't get it, Goku! If you died again, I—" She sucked in a shaky breath, unable to finish.
Kara's body trembled as the words she had held back for so long finally escaped.
"I love you."
Goku's heart nearly stopped. His breath caught in his throat as her voice, filled with desperation and sincerity, hung in the air.
"I've loved you for so long, Goku," she continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "Seeing you almost die today—it broke me."
Goku stared at her, stunned. His mind raced. He had fought gods, defied death, traveled across galaxies… but this? This was something he had never prepared for.
"Kara…" His voice was softer now, filled with an emotion he was only just beginning to understand.
And then, without thinking—without hesitating—Kara closed the distance between them and kissed him.
The world around them blurred. The DEO, the others, everything faded into insignificance. Her lips were soft yet urgent, her hands grasping the fabric of his gi as if she was afraid he'd slip away.
Goku stiffened at first, his heart hammering wildly, but then… he melted into her. A warmth spread through him, deeper than anything he had ever felt before. His hand gently cupped her cheek, his fingers brushing against her golden hair as he kissed her back.
It wasn't just a kiss. It was a promise. A silent vow.
When they finally pulled apart, Kara's cheeks were flushed, her breathing uneven. Goku, for once, was left speechless—his face mirroring her own.
But then, slowly, a smile—a real, genuine, tender smile—spread across his face.
"I love you too, Kara," he said softly, and this time, there was no hesitation.
The room was silent.
Winn, standing beside Mon-El, let out a small whistle. "Well… we never stood a chance, did we?"
Mon-El sighed, shaking his head. "No. No, we didn't."
Superman, watching from a distance, simply smiled. "Good for them," he murmured. "They deserve this."
Krillin smirked, crossing his arms. "Called it. Those two were made for each other."
Kara gently squeezed Goku's hand, her fingers intertwining with his. "This doesn't mean you get to be reckless."
Goku chuckled. "I'll try. But… you know me."
She sighed, shaking her head. "Just promise me you'll be careful."
He squeezed her hand back. "I promise."
And with that, their love—undeniable, powerful, and unbreakable—became the foundation of the journey ahead.
Whatever Namek held in store for them, they would face it together.
