Chapter 24: Public Scrutiny and Reflection

The destruction left behind by Vegeta and Nappa weighed heavily on the world, and the public demanded answers. An entire city had been leveled during the Saiyan invasion, and many lives were lost. Though Supergirl and her allies had saved the planet, the scars of the battle were visible everywhere.

Kara, as Supergirl, held a press conference outside the DEO, facing the media and their relentless questions.

"Supergirl," one reporter began, his voice sharp, "can you explain what happened during the recent attack? Who were those aliens, and how were they able to cause so much destruction?"

Kara stood tall, her voice steady despite the tension in the air. "The attackers were members of an alien race called the Saiyans, a warrior race with incredible strength and power. They came to Earth with the intent to destroy and conquer. We did everything we could to stop them."

Another reporter cut in. "You say 'we,' but the footage shows one of the Saiyans escaping. Why wasn't he stopped?"

Kara hesitated for a moment, her mind flashing back to Vegeta's escape in his pod. "We tried to stop him," she admitted. "But he was too fast, and we were too drained from the fight. However, I assure you that we are prepared for his return. We won't let this happen again."

One reporter held up a tablet displaying an image from the infamous footage of Kara crying over Goku's body. "And what about this man? The one you were mourning during the battle? We've seen recent footage of him alive. How do you explain that?"

The crowd murmured, their interest piqued.

Kara took a deep breath. "That man is Goku. He's a Saiyan, but he's not like the ones who attacked us. He's been living on Earth since he was a child and has dedicated his life to protecting this planet. He sacrificed himself to save all of us, and thanks to certain... unique circumstances, we were able to bring him back."

The murmurs grew louder, filled with speculation and disbelief.

"How?" one reporter asked. "What kind of technology can bring someone back from the dead?"

Kara shook her head. "That's not something I can explain right now. What matters is that Goku is here to help us, and I trust him with my life."

At Cadmus, Lillian Luthor was less concerned with the public's questions and more focused on her next move.

"With Supergirl now immune to Kryptonite, traditional methods are useless against her," Lillian said, pacing in her lab. "If we're going to regain control, we'll need to escalate."

One of her scientists stepped forward. "Project Medusa could neutralize her and any other alien threats, but we need her blood to complete it."

Lillian frowned. "Getting her blood will be difficult. She's become far stronger since her battle with the Saiyans. Kryptonite is no longer effective, and she is still formidable even under a red sun."

The scientist hesitated. "What about targeting those close to her? Emotional leverage could work."

Lillian smirked. "It's a start. Let's see how Supergirl handles a little pressure."

Meanwhile, aboard the spaceship heading to Namek, Bulma, Krillin, and Goku found moments of calm between training sessions and preparing for their mission.

One evening, as Goku rested after another grueling session in the gravity room, Bulma sat beside him with a mischievous grin.

"So, Krillin," Bulma began, "tell me more about Goku and Kara's first kiss. I heard it happened after the battle with Vegeta."

Krillin chuckled, leaning back in his chair. "Oh yeah, it was something. Goku had just used Kaioken times five against Vegeta, and he was in pretty rough shape. Kara was furious with him—scolding him like crazy. Then, out of nowhere, she just broke down, told him she loved him, and kissed him."

Bulma gasped dramatically. "That's adorable! But wait—you're telling me Kara confessed first? I thought for sure Goku would've been the one to do it."

Krillin laughed. "Are you kidding? Goku's a great guy, but romance isn't exactly his strong suit. He probably didn't even realize how much he loved her until that moment."

Bulma grinned. "Well, it's obvious now. He's been zoning out every time he's not training, probably thinking about her."

Goku, who had been quietly listening, rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I can't help it. I miss her."

Bulma's teasing softened into a genuine smile. "You really love her, don't you?"

"Yeah," Goku said simply, his tone filled with sincerity.

Krillin, curious, turned to Bulma. "Hey, Bulma, how did you and Goku meet Kara? He told me you were with him when you found her pod."

Bulma leaned back, her gaze growing distant as she recalled the memory.

"It was during the very beginning of my Dragon Ball journey," Bulma said. "Goku and I were searching for the Dragon Balls when Kara's pod crashed nearby. We went to check it out, and there she was—confused, defensive, and completely distrustful of Goku."

Krillin raised an eyebrow. "Why Goku?"

"She recognized him as a Saiyan immediately," Bulma explained. "Back then, she knew Saiyans as ruthless conquerors, and she thought Goku might be dangerous. It took a long time for her to trust him."

Bulma smiled fondly. "But once she got to know him, it all changed. You know how Goku is—pure-hearted, kind, and impossible not to like. It wasn't long before she started seeing him for who he really was."

As the conversation continued, the bond between the three travelers grew stronger. They shared stories of their past adventures, their hopes for the future, and their determination to bring back their fallen friends.

For Goku, every step of the journey was a step closer to fulfilling his promise to Kara—a promise he intended to keep no matter the cost.
