"So are you guys together?"
"You've been hanging out more and more"
"Just kiss already and call yourselves an item"
That seemed to be what was on everyone's minds lately, even Brenna's. As of right now, she and Oliver have been close but keeping it slow. Their friends slowly mingled into one group, they took time out for themselves, but never held hands or kissed. The closest that they have done was the simple wrapped their arms together or when Oliver was feeling confident, wrapped around her waist. It sent butterflies throughout her chest but it felt strange that she wished for something more.
It was Christmas break and Brenna had decided to go home and hopefully make it back to Greece on time. Brenna was glad to hear that her father hadn't relocated to England following Brenna going to Hogwarts. Being there was magical with Christmas lights strung up on the major drives, the sense of togetherness, and she couldn't wait to tell Fotini all about Oliver. She wished she could send an owl out to her but considering how Fotini is a muggle, she would probably be more freaked out that an owl had sent a letter to her.
The compartment in the train was crammed with the Quidditch players and Brenna's roommates, some were staying in the compartment while others found themselves inside just to say goodbye for now. Brenna sat with Oliver to her right as she couldn't help but notice the warmth from his leg was radiating next to hers. With a slight twitch, she could easily rest her leg next to his but she remained still as she possibly could.
Fred and George were arguing about how a certain prank item could work while the others were trying to tell them to not demonstrate it in this room. Still, the twins wanted to show everyone in case their mother confiscated it.
An idea popped into Brenna's head as she turned and leaned forward so the twins would hear her.
"Don't the Slytherins always take the fancy carts, up front?" Brenna asked, "What better way to give them a goodbye gift then… a little surprise"
The twins stopped and turned to each other, "That's brilliant!"
"But not this one"
"Why not? It's ready to go"
"Yes, but it's not impact worthy when it comes to Slytherins… let's use one with a bit more of a blow" George suggested, "You thinking what I'm thinking, Freddie"
Fred gave a small nod, "Right you are, Georgie, anyone want to come along?"
"What about your brother?" Angelina asked, "I'm sure he won't be pleased that you're up to no good"
"He's not a prefect, yet" George brought up, "Besides, Golden Boy is always telling on us so what's the difference"
"If it wasn't for his red hair, I would say he was the adopted one" Fred scoffed but then stopped, "Unless… it is a different color altogether"
"Eh?"
"He's only affiliated with us because he has flaming luscious locks like ours" Fred told George as if the twins were in a completely different room, "But what if it wasn't?"
George smiled, "We got a lot of work to do this break"
Fred only smiled mischievously to his brother before they took out a different prank item from their bag and left the room. It seemed that their enthusiasm was contagious as everyone quickly got up to leave. Brenna was about to get up when Ramona slammed her back down with her hand on Brenna's shoulder. She nodded over to Oliver who was reading a book and not moving with the crowd. Ramona winked and quickly got up to leave with the others.
Brenna turned to Oliver, "What are you reading?"
"The Greatest Games of Quidditch" Oliver answered, "I've been waiting to take it out of the library but Madam Pince has been making it… difficult to check out"
"How so?"
Oliver looked up, annoyed, "She says because I rent it out so much that she doesn't want me to think that I own the book. Of course I don't own it! If I did, I wouldn't have been asking to rent it out. She believes that eventually I am going to ask how much for the book"
"Why would she think that?"
Oliver hesitated, "Well… maybe because I asked for her to name her price in my first year"
"And did you know that she loved books as much as she does?" Brenna asked.
Oliver scoffed, "I do now"
Brenna couldn't help but let out a small giggle as she turned and looked outside the window. They were at that part again, where it felt obvious of what should be happening next but they were afraid to do it. Nia tried to help her out by asking, why does Brenna hesitate and maybe after figuring that part out, she will be able to overcome and ask Oliver where they stood. Problem is, Brenna kind of knew already why she was hesitant, because she was one of the rarest half-breeds out there.
"How will you be going to Greece, if I may ask" Oliver suddenly said.
Brenna shrugged, "More than likely with a carriage like last time. Father wants to stay a day in Diagon Alley to get a few things"
"Hopefully one day I will meet him" Oliver said with a smile, "If he doesn't hex boys from hanging out with his daughters"
"I'm sure he would be more displeased if I brought home one of the twins than you"
"You're probably right" Oliver hesitated, "I wish you stuck around, maybe we could've grabbed a bite to eat at Diagon Alley, or something"
"No, I think it would be best to save it for the next Hogsmeade trip" Brenna said, lightly.
Oliver smiled, sheepishly, "I'm sorry we haven't been able to hang out as much as I would've liked. We've got a big game coming up and I want to make sure we succeed"
"I understand" Brenna smiled, "You're going after the House Cup"
It wasn't rocket science what Oliver was trying to achieve, especially when he nearly devoted half of his time to practice and quidditch. Brenna actually liked seeing how concentrated he was; how his eyebrows furrowed in concentration, the way he always uses the blackboard to go about plays in the common room, he's so focused in on these tasks that he doesn't even realize that Brenna would be staring at him for the last five minutes. Maybe that is the reason why everyone thought that they were together?
"Slytherin always gets it" Oliver mumbled, "They always find a way… but not this year"
Brenna slowly nodded, "I believe in you, Oliver"
He only looked at her before the rest of their friends came flooding back into the compartment. Some were laughing, struggling to breath while the others seemed nearly terrified.
"Do you think they saw us?" Aria asked.
"Who cares?" George waved off, "It's about time those snakes got what they deserve"
"Even if they didn't see us, there are only two people who are stupid enough to do the things that they did" Angelina pointed to the twins.
Fred gasped, "I thought you liked our pranks"
"Not when it could bite us all in the butt" Angelina placed her hands on her hips and glared at them.
"How can it?" Jordan asked, "We're nearly at Kings Cross right now, away from school and their precious Snape who could dock off points. By the time we get back to Hogwarts, they would have expensive gifts that mummy and daddy had bought them to make them feel better and forgot all about the prank"
"Let's just hope you're right, Jordan" Angelina said, "I don't fancy watching my back for the rest of the year"
