Kyle Greengrass was content and happy.
He was about to become a first time father to a daughter.
The war with Voldemort hadn't affected him much. The Greengrasses had historically been politically neutral.
Kyle was very apolitical himself. Moreover, he wasn't much of a news follower. His philosophy of life was to go about living his own life without worrying about what was going on in the news. As such, the war with Voldemort was never even on his mind much.
His mind was always focused on his own life and affairs and right now that meant his impending fatherhood as his daughter was due to come into the world in a baker's dozen days.
As much as the opportunity for fatherhood meant to Kyle, there was a task that he needed to complete before his daughter arrived.
That task was to name his daughter.
Kyle wasn't a very value driven person, so he wasn't likely to name his daughter because a name that carried a specific meaning related to any particular characteristic.
However, Kyle did have a very strong sense of gratitude.
He always felt great apparition for those who helped him along the way.
That thought popped into Kyle's mind as he sat on his white Ashley Furniture sofa.
"I should name my daughter after someone has helped me along the way in my life," Kyle thought to himself.
This thought process took Kyle's mind back to his first year at Hogwarts.
Kyle, unusually for a pureblood, had Potions and Herbology as his best subjects at Hogwarts. He was a consistent O student in both from his first year through his seventh year.
However, in his first year, he had started out the year really struggling in the more wand based disciplines of Charms, Potions, and Transfiguration.
The reason for this was that he struggled with wand movements. His main issue was that he tended to wave and yank his wand around far too aggressively, resulting in incorrect wand movements that led to shoddy or incomplete spellwork.
One of the girls in Kyle's year at Hogwarts was a highly talented witch named Daphne Drill, who was one of the top three students in the year in all subjects and the best in both Charms and Defense the Dark Arts, never not achieving a grade of O on any assignment or exam in those subjects.
Daphne was observant enough to see that Kyle was one the worst students in their year in wand based magic because of his poor wand handling skills and tendency to be overly aggressive with his wand.
After clearly observing this pattern in Kyle's struggles, Daphne approached Kyle on Friday evening in the Slytherin Common Room and offered to spend the weekend helping with work on his wand based magic by teaching and helping him practice gentler and more accurate ways of handling his wand to achieve the intended result.
While his wand based magic never rose to the level of his proficiency in Potions and Herbology, he did become a consist E student in Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts, eventually attaining Es on both his O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s.
Had Daphne not taken that weekend to tutor Kyle, he suspected he would have ended up at best a P student in those subjects and that's if he was lucky. He could plausibly see himself not qualifying for N.E.W.T. level classes or even getting Ts on his O.W.L.s in those subjects.
Kyle knew that Daphne hadn't had to give him her time to help improve.
But Daphne had spent that weekend working with Kyle on his wand handling techniques and Kyle saw steady and obvious improvement as Daphne worked with him.
Daphne had clearly been happy for Kyle's improvement and had expressed this.
Daphne's offer was born out of generously as she was naturally inclined to share her knowledge with others when she thought they could benefit from it.
Thinking back to his first year and remembering how Daphne's selfless sharing of her time and knowledge had helped him improve his skills, Kyle made his decision.
"My daughter shall go by the name of Daphne Greengrass," thought Kyle, "Daphne gave of herself to me by helping me along the way. It's my turn to return the favor by giving back to her by giving my daughter her name in her honor."
Kyle didn't need to think much. App reaction for what Daphne Drill had done for him filled him up on the insides.
...
As held his newborn daughter, Kyle said, "Daphne, I have bestowed the name Daphne upon you out of gratitude for the help my classmate Daphne Drill gave me when I was younger. My biggest wish for you is that when people in your life help you along the way, you will identify that they are people who have helped you along the way and acknowledge this. Daphne Greengrass, welcome into the world."
And with that, Kyle just held his newborn daughter contently.
I have now moved the chapter on James Sirius Potter to chapter 1. This is a last attempt to try increase this thread's popularity. Unlike some of my other less popular threads, which have more consistent chapter to chapter view totals, I have noticed when looking at the views counts for this thread that there is massive percent drop in views between chapters 1 and 2. That tells me that the Snape antis have been abandoning this story after chapter 1. I'm wondering if there is any chance that moving that Albus Severus chapter out of chapter 1 might allow this thread to keep more readers by starting it with the non controversial James Sirius naming. In that way, maybe more people will see the Albus Severus chapter as 1 chapter they don't like and give continuing to read a chance. I once believed that the reason this thread's popularity never caught on was that I had overrated people's interest in the concept of baby naming, but that doesn't explain chapter 1's much higher read counts as it's clear from the summary what this thread is all about. Well, the best explanation for the large readership drop between chapters 1 and 2 would be that the anti Snape crowd discontinued reading this thread after chapter 1. Since this thread is so much less popular than my original expectations anyway, why not give this a shot?"
Much love from Arizona for all the support. Love you all -Michael, :) ❤️
