This chapter will be the fortune teller Baba saga. Anyways sit back and enjoy the read if that's what you want to do.
Age 750 (Entrance to Baba's palace.)
"So this is your sisters place huh?" Zatanna said slightly impressed.
"Yep she always was big on oversized living spaces." Roshi replied.
"I can tell." Krillin added as he looked up in awe.
After the defeat of the red ribbon army the group made their way back to Roshi's Island in hopes of getting a dragon radar off Bulma where they also reunited with Yamcha and Puar. After checking the radar they realised the dragon ball was no where to be seen and as a result Roshi suggested going to his sister Baba's palace who was an acclaimed fortune teller and would be perfect for finding it along the way they had picked up Upa having decided to jot make him wait and instead brought him along to complete the final stretch to revive his father.
"So where is she?" Upa asked looking around.
"She'll probably be looking into her ball as per usual." Roshi replied as he escorted the group of them towards a small old woman in a tinier generic witch costume and sat upon a floating ball she had her hair dyed pink and she ignored their approaches seemingly more interested in what she was looking at.
Goku walked up to her as she continued to ignore them "Uh hello? My name is Go-"
"I know who you are Son Goku." Baba replied still not looking up.
"Then you know why we're here right?" Krillin asked.
"Naturally." The fortune teller replied "The location of the dragon ball will be one hundred million Zeni."
"How much is that?" Diana asked concerned.
"1 Zeni is around 1 Yen 100 yen is 75 cents USD so 100 million would be 635,544 $ USD." Bulma replied.
"You have way more than that right Bulma?" Yamcha questioned.
Bulma sighed "Yeah not on me though."
Zatanna smiled "Ok then I'll just-"
"I know your tricks magic girl no summoning the money!" Baba replied knowingly.
Upa sighed "Guess I won't be able to revive my dad then."
"Come on sis! Surely there's another way?" Roshi said trying to help out.
"There is if the children can handle it that is."
"We can easy peasy!" Krillin replied confidently.
Baba smirked "If you say so in that case you lot follow me." She then escorted them about one hundred meters away from where they met her to a flat white tiled arena.
"So why are we here exactly?" Diana asked warily.
"To obtain the dragon balls location isn't that your goal?" Baba replied cryptically.
"Yeah but how we're just standing here?" Yamcha questioned.
"Five battles you'll have to win five one on one battles to get the location you will sub out each round if you win said round those are the only rules."
"We've got this!" Puar replied.
"So who's going p first?" Yamcha asked.
"I will!" Krillin replies confidently stepping up to the arena.
The sky then darkened as black clouds rapidly covered the sun as the first opponent appeared on the opposite end as blue skinned man with pointed ears wearing green boxers and purple gloves he had spiky brown hair and manic grin on his face.
"The hell's this freak supposed to be?" Krillin asked.
"You dare? My name is fangs the vampire!" Fangs said pointing at himself proudly.
Krillin smirked "Guess the clouds weren't for show then? Got to say though your in major need of a glow up hot vampires are the current fad."
Fangs looked confused "Uh what?"
"In other words your ugly!"
Fangs scowled "Ugly? Like your talking if the sun were still out your bald head would burn the audiences eyes out!"
Krillin frowned mockingly "You know what? I'll probably let you take a bite considering hoe skinny you are you've probably been craving some blood for quite some time."
Fangs raised his gloves in anger before charging at Krillin the monk blocked his incoming blows before retaliating with some strikes of his own however to Krillin's surprise Fangs was stronger than he looked at successfully grabbed him by the legs before slamming Krillin into the floor before throwing him away causing him to skid to the arena's edge.
Krillin then fired off Ki blasts around fangs each one missing and only causing dust to spray upwards.
Fangs smirked "Heh your aim suc-" He was then caught of guard by a kick from Krillin his eyes bulging as pain flared up in his stomach as Fangs found himself laying on the ground as Krillin stepped over him and began to pummel him repeatedly pissing the vampire off.
"Now I know not to take you to lightly your screwed!" Krillin said as he continued delivering the relentless beating Fangs gasped as he desperately looked for a way out until he lunged forward and sunk his fangs into Krillin's arm quickly drawing blood.
"Ow! Get off me!" Krillin growled in anger as he punched Fangs away who quickly got up his energy now rejuvenated from his quick snack.
"Heh now your finished boy!" Fangs said threateningly however Krillin wasn't playing attention as he watched the boy Ki blast charging in hand as he aimed it at the sky.
The vampires head tilted curiously "Um what are you doing?" Fangs asked
"Oh just going to part the clouds with this ki blast." Krillin said casually as he continued charging the attack.
"Uh ok cool... Hang on a fucking second! Are you trying to kill me?"
Krillin looked smugly back at the vampire "Here's what's happening you quit or you get exposed to sunlight the choice is yours."
"Fine fine! I forfeit ok?" Fangs yelled in panic "Fucking psycho."
Krillin the turned back and proudly walked off stage as he sat back next to his friends.
"That was a tad bit dramatic don't you think?" Diana said with a frown "Besides did you know if that would work?"
"Nope but I was going to try anyway." Krillin replied.
"Not the best strategy but it worked I guess." Zatanna added.
"Well anyway who's next?" Goku asked.
"Depends who our opponent is we need to be wise about this." Yamcha replied.
"Speaking which he should becoming out now." Puar added though seeing no one head into the arena.
"You lot pick your next fighter to fight see through invisible man." Baba yelled out to them.
"Can we just say invisible man? That names a mouthful." Diana asked impatiently.
"No no he likes his full name." Baba replied before she turned back to he crystal ball ignoring them.
"Uh so who's up then?" Goku questioned.
"I'll go I'll just have to test the waters while we fight." Zatanna responded as she jumped down from where they were before landing in the tiled arena.
"Heh you ready to get thrashed kid?" Invisible man asked.
"Your on Casper." Zatanna replied before she focused up trying to listen for footsteps as invisible man ran around her but to no avail.
She then stumbled a bit as he hit her a few times before she struck out hitting nothing.
She then felt a kick in her back she turned and thrusted her wand out a quick bolt of energy clearly hit something as she heard a grunt of pain.
"Is this the fully naked invisibility or anything you wear in invisible as well..." Zatanna mused thinking of a way to find out.
Invisible man didn't bother replying as he ran in and struck her before running out before she could retaliate however things would soon take a turn for the worst for the unseen fighter.
"Lio!" Zatanna shouted as she projected a wave of oil in all directions not hitting dealing any damage but revealing the invisible man to all.
"Guess it was the latter." Zatanna mused before she launched a lightning bolt at the man shocking him still before she followed up with a weaker blast of energy made to simply knock him out of the arena and it was successful in doing just that as the oil covered slumped to the floor in defeat.
Baba frowned at the invisible man's failure as she curiously watched the young magician join her friends once again on the sidelines.
"Nice job out there!" Krillin applauded.
"Yeah that was a nice trick!" Yamcha added.
Zatanna waved her hand dismissively "It was nothing."
"Welp guess we wait for whoever Baba sends out next." Puar stated.
"At the rate we're going we'll be getting the last dragon ball in no time!" Upa said excitedly.
"We shouldn't get overconfident she's likely saving her best for later." Diana replied wisely.
"That's definitely her style." Roshi added knowingly.
The group then heard Baba shout something incoherent and looked over questioningly.
"What's that all about?" Goku asked.
"Probably nothing." Yamcha replied.
They then watched a giant of a man crudely wrapped in bandages walk up onto the stage ready for combat.
"I'm beginning to sense a theme here." Zatanna said noticing that all the fighters represented the stereotypical supernatural beings.
Krillin nodded in agreement "Yeah a Vampire and I'd guess invisible man represents a ghost and now a mummy?"
"Bandages the mummy is the next fighter up!" Baba yelled out to them.
"So who's wants a piece him?" Diana asked.
"I'll go knock him around a bit." Yamcha replied confidently.
"You sure about this?" Bulma asked paying attention for the first time since they've got here.
"Of course mummy's are just big lumbering idiots right?" Yamcha stated with a grin.
"Be careful Yamcha." Puar said worriedly.
"I will I promise." The former bandit responded as he walked into the arena and faced down the hulking undead.
"Alrighty then let's see how hollow this skull of yours is." Yamcha called out cracking his knuckles."
"Keep talking like that and I'll tear your skull from your neck!"
"Woah there big fella don't get your toilet paper tied in a knot!"
Bandages scowled underneath his attire and glared at his opponent "Big talk coming from a pipsqueak like you."
Yamcha smiled mockingly "Oh? Looks like someone didn't get enough sleep wrong not enough pillows in the coffin? Don't worry because after we're done I'll graciously send you to an eternal beauty sleep... Or ugly sleep can't tell right now."
The mummy roared in anger and charged at Yamcha feigning slowness to catch him off guard later and as he expected the former bandit dodged easily.
"Gonna have to try harder than that!" Yamcha jabbed as he landed some glancing blows on the mummy before gracefully flipping away from his strikes however Bandages was rather unfazed at his speed.
"Heh, that's it huh? Well, I'm not impressed!" Bandages then charged at Yamcha with a surprising burst of speed as he quickly swerved around Yamcha before elbowing him in the back with his massive strength sending Yamcha rolling across the arena grounds before the mummy charged at the bandit and grabbed Yamcha and proceeded to slam him into the ground before Bandages finished him off with a pile driver hitting him hard enough he bounced up and flew out of the arena crashing into the stands next to his friends.
"You let yourself get caught off guard." Diana scolded as Yamcha stumbled to get up.
"Ya think? He was acting all big and slow and then boom! He becomes a speedster!"
"Hardly a speedster I think you're just slow Yamcha." Krillin replied.
Yamcha scowled as Baba laughed triumphantly at her minion's victory.
Zatanna then glanced at the arena and noticed that Bandages was staying in.
"Guess they aren't allowed to switch out after a match how tired do you think he is?" The magician asked.
Yamcha sighed glumly "He seemed unfazed from my hits he'll be close to full capacity at least."
"Can I go then?" Goku asked eagerly.
"Nah let me handle this," Diana replied confidently.
"Who's getting cocky now?" Yamcha taunted.
"Yeah whatever you say besides I have a plan I'm not going to rush in blind like some people." Diana retorted.
"Welp, good luck then!" Krillin called out with everyone else following with similar words of encouragement as Diana stepped down into the arena.
"Oh? The little girl wants a piece of me now what a joke!" Bandages yelled at the princess uproariously.
"Little girl? Lets put that to the test shall we?" Diana then jumped back and began to circle her opponent looking for an opening as Bandages watched her without a care in the world.
"Take this!" Bandages yelled as he charged at Diana throwing a fast-paced punch which she weaved with ease causing the mummy to repeat a sequence of quick blows each getting dodged around handily before she jumped up on the giant arm of her adversary and began to run up his arm.
"Get off of me!" Bandages yelled as he without thinking threw a powerful punch punch which she dodged again easily and as a result he punched his own arm managing to break it as he collapsed in pain.
"Ow you little shit!" The mummy seethed with rage however Diana bored of playing with her opponent merely shrugged and before he could blink the princess managed to get behind her opponent as she held her sword to his throat before pressing it in a threatening manner scaring the mummy.
"Oh crap your fast... Alright alright just please don't kill me I'll quit!" Bandages said hastily scared for his own safety.
Diana nodded as she withdrew the sword and kicked him out of the ring as she turned back and calmly walked back to the sidelines where most of her friends stood flabbergasted with the exception of Goku Krillin and Zatanna who were used to this by now.
"You've grown massively since I last trained you huh?" Roshi commended.
"Yeah, even I'll admit that was impressive if not terrifying," Yamcha added.
Everyone else congratulated her as she merely took the compliments in silence before she waited for the reveal of their next opponent.
Baba meanwhile sighed not in annoyance but in disappointment at her fighter's shortcomings she had thought they would do better but so far they've flopped and meanwhile, besides the former bandit the rest were still quite fresh.
She then smiled remembering who was up next Spike would surely take one down though hopefully not have to resort to his signature attack she didn't want to kill them after all.
"Next up is the one and only Spike the devil man!" Baba yelled as a dark blue-coloured demon with light blue horns with a white face and finally, he had a pair of wings of similar colour to his overall body leading to a rather imposing appearance.
"Spike huh? I've heard about him be careful and beat him before he unleashes his special attack." Roshi advised.
"What's this special attack?" Krillin asked curiously.
"The Devilmite beam it amplifies the evil in anyone's heart to an extreme level causing them to spontaneously explode!" Roshi replied.
"That sounds… Overkill." Zatanna said wearily.
"Welp that being said who's going up?" Puar asked.
"Glad I lost now cause no way in hell am I fighting against that!" Yamcha commented relieved.
"I'll go." Goku offered.
"You sure about that? I have a shield so I could potentially block a beam from him." Diana asked worriedly.
"Yeah no need to risk it Goku." Krillin added.
"Sure I'm sure! If I ran from fights because of the risk of dying I wouldn't be much of a warrior after all we're heroes right?"
"That was quite wise of you Goku." Zatanna commented, "Though heroes might be a stretch."
"Have some confidence you guys beat the Red Ribbon army right?" Yamcha replied.
"I agree and with the other threats you guys faced beforehand you guys may not be as famous as Super Boy but don't deny it you guys are as heroic as him!" Bulma added.
"Yeah don't sell yourself short!" Puar said.
"Thanks, guys! Welp guess its time to face down Spike I can't lie I'm excited!" Goku said excitedly as he walked down to meet Spike in the middle of the arena.
"You've got a lot of guts to face me down despite knowing of my abilities." Spike commended staring down Goku.
"Nah that's got me excited!" Goku replied.
"Eager to die uh? Well unfortunately for you I won't have to resort to that my base abilities will serve me just fine!"
"You mean fortunately right? Why would I want to die?"
Spike shrugged "The way it was worded made it sound weird though that doesn't change the fact that I'm about to beat your face in!" The devil man then charged towards Goku hands at the ready as he swung at the boy however he managed to parry before swinging his own attack which Spike shrugged off with his elbow.
The two then forced each other into a flurry of blows occasionally each was forced to shrug attacks off their bodies to lessen the damage but Goku's smaller size allowed him to weave around the demon's attacks much easier before Goku managed to land a gut punch sending him stumbling backward clutching his stomach.
Spike scowled in annoyance as he coughed up some blood before clearing himself of his brief fatigue as he focused on Goku once again as he flew into the sky staring down the boy before continuing to fly slowly increasing his speed before he quickly swooped down at high speeds slamming into Goku and sending the turtle schooler hurtling back.
However, Goku quickly got up catching Spike of guard as he took advantage of the demon's open defences pummelling him around before smacking him away and sending him skidding.
"Crap… He tough." Spike mused to himself before sighing as he yelled out to his opponent "So… Son Goku is it? I must say I'm impressed that you managed to push me to this you have sufficiently overpowered me in physical might however I have yet to reveal my trump card!"
"Everyone's knows your tricks and your more than welcome to use them!" Goku replied.
"So I really am as infamous as they say? Well then you shall die recorded in the history books as the latest warrior who fell to my might now steel your spirit and prepare for my Devilmite beam!" Spike the fired off the attack a pink swirling beam as first it seemed as if Goku dodged however the beam homed in from behind and struck him causing shock to appear on the audience's faces.
"Oh shit!" Everyone including Baba herself shouted in unison.
Spike merely smirked as multiple angry glares were sent his way.
"He was a fool to let me use that attack and he suffered the consequences." The devil stated mockingly as he stared back at the where Goku should have been however the boy was gone.
"Where could he-" Spike was then kicked in the side of the head and sent skidding towards the edge of the arena as Goku stood were he once was unscathed by the devilmite beam.
"How'd he do that?" Yamcha asked shocked.
"Does that mean he lacks any evil intent in his heart?" Diana asked.
Roshi's eyebrows furrowed curiously "That must indeed be the case guess he truly bares no ill will towards even his greatest foes."
Spike meanwhile was shellshocked to the point hadn't even try to retaliate as Goku walked towards him.
"You gonna keep fighting?" Goku prompted.
Spike shook himself and quickly got to his knees "Please I forfeit! Don't make me fight this monster anymore!"
Baba nodded "Fair enough fine it seems Goku wins this round now would you like to stay in for the final battle?"
Goku frowned "Can I talk to everyone else first?"
"Proceed." The fortune teller replied as Goku quickly regrouped with the others on the side lines.
"I thought you were going to die there!" Zatanna said.
"Yeah I was about to clobber spike upside his head when I thought you died." Diana added.
Krillin nodded in agreement "Glad your alright Goku! Now who are we sending out next?"
"Um... Actually I'd like to go for another round." Goku replied slightly nervous knowing someone else may want a chance.
Yamcha frowned "You sure? After all Puar might want a chance to fight."
"As if!" Puar scoffed "Besides if its anything like last round I'm fine where I am thank you very much."
"Anyone against Goku going again?" Bulma asked.
"Nope." Zatanna replied.
"Fine with me." Diana added.
Krillin nodded "I second that."
"In that case guess your up again Goku." Roshi said.
"Alright then I'm ready." Goku said with a determined look on his face.
"So you've decided to go for round two? Very well then prepare to face your toughest challenge yet!" Baba shouted as a mysterious man wearing a fox white and red fox mask and wearing an orange shirt with a black full sleeved top underneath the shirt also had a yellow ringed pattern but by far most notably was the halo above the mans head.
"You ready to fight?" Goku asked getting into a battle stance.
The man merely nodded as he too prepared himself getting into a position similar to Goku.
"Ready? Go!" Baba shouted as the two warriors charged at each other.
First Goku blocked an incoming punch before attempting a leg sweep which was blocked in return before the unknown man followed up with a kick of his own sending the boy skidding backwards before the man charged at his guard still up however he didn't account for Goku's tail which the boy quickly took advantage of as he grabbed the man's legs and attempted to trip him however he managed to do a front flip other the tail before kicking Goku in the face and using it to propel back to the other side of the arena before he stood still regarding him carefully as Goku recovered.
"This guys good." Goku mused as he panted slightly "Its like he's familiar with my moves." Goku then shook his head clearing it of outside thoughts as he focused on the opponent as he once again charged in in a more defensive stance as the man already prepared an offensive counter however Goku prepared ducked under the incoming attack and sent a series of jabs at the mans stomach causing him to grunt in pain before Goku was smacked away with an elbow the man then quickly chased down Goku who quickly spun back and charged back at him engaging him in a flurry of blows they both almost perfectly countered each others strikes only occasionally did a blow slip in but usually they rolled it off their limbs mitigating the damage it was as if they knew each others fighting styles something Roshi and Diana being the most experienced martial artists picked up in quickly.
"The way that man fights... Its almost identical to Goku!" Diana stated.
"You sure?" Krillin asked trying to confirm it but Roshi answered him instead.
"Indeed in fact if I'm not mistaken... And that would explain the halo..."
"Who do you think it is?" Zatanna asked.
"Just a hunch for now I'll tell you all when I'm sure." Roshi replied.
Goku meanwhile was in the receiving end of relentless strikes now coated with small layers of ki making each connected strike all the more painful however Goku with his own ki fists quickly evened the scale hitting the masked man across his torso before Goku aimed a small ki blast at the mans chest and let it loose sending him flying backwards back to where he started giving time for Goku to think however the man didn't intend on giving him that as he put his hands in a familiar position.
Yamcha gaped "Wait that's-"
"The Kamehameha." Diana finished for him looking both surprised and impressed.
"Where did he learn that then?" Zatanna asked curiously.
"Only from me he could learn that, I had a feeling he was a student of mine considering his use of the Kame style." Roshi replied.
"Goku better do something quick!" Krillin stated worriedly.
"Kame" The man started uttering his first words in this match as a blue ball grew between his hands "Hame... Ha!" He finished with a shout as the wave of ki was projected as the giant laser associated with the Kamehameha was launched towards Goku who noticed its trajectory towards his friends."
"Kamehameha!" Goku shouted as he launched his own blue beam quickly hitting the other head on as the engaged in a beam struggle causing waves of energy to shake the earth as the battlefield was engulfed in blue light before finally they exploded shaking the earth further as dust and debris was flung up shrouding the arena from view until it eventually cleared and both fighters stood there ready to continue.
Goku charged at the man again determined to catch him off guard as but the man was quicker as he blocked the incoming blow Goku attempted another but that was thwarted as well as the masked warrior aimed his own blows which Goku countered with gusto they then charged in yet again engaging in yet another round of boxing however this time to finish it off the man jumped back at the last second and charged back in at blinding speeds until Goku could see multiple of the fox masked man moving towards him at once throwing him off but the real one was revealed as the one behind him but he learned that the hard way Goku was lifted by the tail as he thrashed around helplessly.
"He knows his weakness!" Diana said worriedly.
"This is bad." Krillin added grimly as the man slammed Goku into the ground leaving a dent in the floor before repeating that process again and again and again starting to worry the people present.
"Woah that's a bit overboard right?" Yamcha said scared for his friend.
"Yeah that's way to brutal for matches like these!" Bulma shouted angrily.
"Calm down he hit Goku with more that he can't handle." Roshi said confidently.
"How do you know?" Zatanna asked accusingly.
Roshi smiled "I had a feeling Hu now I can defiantly confirm this that man is Goku's grandfather grandpa Gohan!"
"But how he's dead!" Krillin replied confused.
"Check the halo kid!" Roshi responded.
Diana frowned "But those who go the Elysium don't have halo's unless he went somewhere else."
"I'll explain later now let's watch!" Roshi replied prompting the the battle as Grandpa Gohan slammed Goku once again however accidently tearing the tail from the root freeing him from the viscous onslaught as Goku prepares to attack.
However much to everyone's surprise Gohan put his hands up in surrender confusing everyone especially Goku.
"You should have learned to overcome the tails weakness after all a third appendage is useful in battle but with a drawback like that you could be rendered helpless."
Goku eye's widened in familiarity as he recalled similar words told to him many years ago by nine other than is grandpa.
"Grandpa?" Goku asked.
"Yes Goku." Gohan replied removing his mask revealing his all to familiar face "Its me."
"Grandpa!" Goku cheered as he burst into tears of both sadness and joy as he leaped onto Gohan hugging him tightly as they shared a heartfelt reunion a long time in the making Gohan returning the hug with equal fervor.
When they finally let go everyone else walked up to congratulate Goku as Roshi looked at his old student and friend happily.
"Its been a while hasn't it?" Roshi said smiling.
"Yes I still remembering jogging 10 kilometer's a day with those turtle shells on my back." Gohan replied wistfully.
"What's with the mask?" Roshi asked.
"I wished to test his strength after all if he knew it was me he would of surely held back had to pull a few strings with your sister to be able to return for a day." Gohan responded.
"So you think he passed?" Roshi asked.
Gohan nodded "While he has many things to work on I say he passed with flying colors though be sure he works hard after all there's always someone stronger right?"
Roshi smiled "Indeed there is."
"How'd you come back grandpa?" Goku asked curiously prompting everyone else's curiosity.
Baba then stepped in "I'm sure you've all heard of some variation of the afterlife right especially the Amazonian."
"Everyone nodded in response."
"Well everyone religious belief exists whether its the realm of hades heaven and hell Valhalla you name it it'll exist but for non-believers that place is otherworld."
"Other world?" Krillin asked.
"Other world functions similarly to the afterlife of Christianity however it is governed by king Yemma and his assistants its essentially infinite in size and transcends the mortal realm I'd explain more but I'm sure the Kai's wouldn't appreciate that."
Everyone nodded somewhat understanding.
Baba smiled "To travel between the two realms you'll need permission and after I predicted you were coming here Gohan quickly asked to come back for a day and though usually I'm quite strict on that he's helped me plenty in the past and deserved this much at least."
"Speaking of which what have you been doing?" Gohan asked Goku "And who are these new friends of yours?"
Goku then explained his adventures from meeting Bulma and Diana stopping to the fist of Cain summoning Shenron training with Roshi and Krillin teaming up with Zatanna to defeat the red ribbon army and more.
"Heh never even knew they had those capabilities." Gohan mused he then turned to Roshi "Thanks for teaching him all he knows even if the way he swayed you was... unorthodox welp old habits are hard to to forget eh?"
Roshi chuckled "Anytime old timer."
Upa then frowned "Uh Goku you sure you don't want to revive your grandpa? You helped me with all of this after all I hardly did anything."
Gohan smiled "Oh no the afterlife is wonderful actually besides I've been dead longer than a year so I can't come back now."
"Glad to here that if it was bad I would be much more scared of death." Yamcha joked.
"Well the days almost up so I'd better be going." Gohan said.
"Bye grandpa!" Goku said hugging him one last time.
"Goodbye Goku." Grandpa Gohan replied as his grandson and his new friends waved to him as he flickered in and out of the mortal realm as he drifted back to the after life Gohan smiled happy he found that strange space pod all those years ago."
I'm very sorry this chapter took so long I actually went on a nice little trip for a few weeks up with my grandparents anyway hope you lot enjoyed and see you next time on DC-Z Reborn!
