Chapter 8: Editing Mode, Active

By now, Silver and Oswald were putting finishing touches onto the extra regulators they had made. Contrary to Tails, they had not been like butter and bread, each getting in the other's way, convinced their method was superior.

"Look, let me adjust this to be a bit tighter!"

"It's tightened already! The copper alloy will rip!"

"Trust me! I know what I'm doing!"

"It'll rip! This is too delicate! Maybe you're used to different kinds of alloy, but I know this isn't strong enough."

"Well, then, fuse it with an adhesive, or graphite. That'd work!"

"No!"

Knuckles rubbed his head. "This makes no sense. Plus, it's way too loud. I'm gonna… take a break outside. Anyone else feel like it?" Amy nodded and the pair left the room. Shadow just watched the pair bicker, enjoying it slightly.

"Um, Shadow, you think you can stop them? They are losing focus." Shadow looked at Sonic, and groaned. This wasn't going well, and Sonic was right, but why should he stop this? Eventually, one would challenge the other, and prove their idea worthy. But after ten minutes of no successful conclusion, Shadow decided to take some overdue action.

He pushed Oswald and Silver away from each other's faces, as their work lay on the ground, close to completion."You two are tiresome. Finish off those regulators, so we can go back home." They both looked at each other so ferociously, you could mistake them for wild animals.

"But my method will make it last longer! She ain't listening." harrumphed an irritated Oswald. If she even took the time to listen to the logic, maybe they wouldn't be in this messy situation.

"But if it's smaller, it'll be stronger, and he won't let me give it a try!" shouted a peeved Silver. If he would have actually waited to understand her reasons, maybe this wouldn't have gotten out of hand.

"Um, sis, maybe you should listen to him," whispered Chuck, but Red just silently told him to be quiet.

Then they both got started again. Back to bickering, the pair nearly stepped on the last two pieces before they were finished, were it not for the small gap between them and the pair's feet. Shadow started to get angry. "Do NOT incur my wrath," he began, but they ignored him. He started glowing an eerie red, whilst taking a deep breath.

"Uh oh. Let's just wait outside…" said Tails. Sonic rushed to the door alongside Tails, as did Chuck and Red. The pair stopped to look at each other, hearing Shadow's breaths, and too late did they run off. Shadow screamed. BOOM! The house shuddered and shook, but it stood firm. The worst damage that had happened to both were their bodies. Silver's pigtails were frazzled, and Oswald's ears were on the ground, and they had a ringing in their ears, but aside from that, nothing horrible occurred.

"Will you two stop it? Put your differences aside, and work for the greater good. Or else suffer," said Shadow, as the pair quickly nodded and finished off their critical work. Listening to the currently-in-charge hedgehog, they quickly oiled the regulators, popped in the last screw, and dusted it off, all without a single word, of harsh or of support.

They rapidly sealed the panel, as SIlver handed the pack to him, saying, "Here you are, Mr. Shadow."

"Good. I hope this will be functional."

"Oh, heh, it should." Right then a blast could be heard outside, as everyone rushed to the window. "Who is that?" asked SIlver, pointing to a bald man with a large moustache, currently riding a flying dome of sorts whilst Sonic and Tails were flying above him, about to drop on him, and as Amy was hitting the dome with her hammer. Knuckles was denting the Egg Mobile so easily, it looked like he was eating pizza, while Red shot rocks at him using a slingshot and Chuck sped around him so fast he was a blur.

Shadow clenched his fist and said,"Dr. Robotnik, also known as Eggman. How could he get here?" Oswald had no idea who he was, mostly due to a lack of explanation.

All of a sudden, the door banged open as Sonic's crew brought in Eggman, his machine outside. Something was sticking out of his pocket, but nobody even asked what it was, for they hadn't noticed it. Amy said, "Look what we found outside. Eggman!"

Shadow gave him a death stare, as he nervously chuckled, "Now, now, everyone. No need to get so worked up…" Not one single face had any remorse for him, and his hand slowly travelled to the back of his body. Tails, Shadow and Sonic watched him carefully, as he slowly said, "Well, I hate to interrupt this whole meeting, but I think it's LEAVING TIME!"

From his pocket, he withdrew his Time, Place and Memory Machine and started zapping everything in reach. Everyone dodged around, as everything crashed to the floor. Mugs, vases, various stationery items and gadgets fell to the floor.

Red felt anger bubbling to the surface. Chuck also felt it, more so because of the amount of hard work that had gone into the hut. So, without warning, Chuck went hyperspeed.

Slowing time down to a ridiculous amount, Chuck ran around, tied the doctor's shoelaces, fiddled with his machine, took a few minutes to repair everything he broke and stopped.

Time started running again, only slightly differently.

Eggman tripped right as Sonic was jumping on him, and as Knuckles was about to break his machine. However, Sonic instead ended up hitting the machine and Knuckles actually hit Eggman's bottom.

"YOOOOOWWCH!" cried Eggman, flailing his arms around as the machine on the ground vibrated. Nobody took notice as they all surrounded him, and put on the regulators. Even Chuck and Red tried them on for fun.

"Here you go, Eggman," said Amy. She handed him some regulators. He looked grateful for a second, as he put them on, and as Sonic tried to tell her to leave him be. Amy just helped Eggman up, explaining, "These should help you survive this universe. Why are you here anyway?"

"By now he probably got all the animals on the island and then just released them. There wouldn't be any point in them," Knuckles looked to Eggman to see if it was true, and he didn't deny it. He shook his head, about to say something, when a loud buzzing noise became audible.

"What's that?" asked Oswald. Before anyone could reply, the doctor's machine started randomly hitting everyone. Sonic got zapped first, followed by Knuckles, Tails, then Amy and Eggman, then Shadow and Red, and finally Oswald. The buzzing abruptly ended and smoke billowed out from it.

Only Silver and Chuck were left. They looked at each other. "We… have a situation."
