Chapter 11

Tywin Lannister stared at the letters in front of him with a palpable fury in his eyes. If he could, Tywin would have cut the throats of those who dared to block his plans. Yet, that wasn't something he could do as of now, especially with the current state of affairs. It seemed things weren't in his control anymore, and Tywin hated not being in control. Angrily, he took a sip of his wine and sat down, sighing furiously. Everything he has planned for so long has been crushing down recently, and it was thanks to that Dragon. All of his misfortunes and shattering plans were thanks to that thing.

"The Gods has sent her to mock me," Tywin hissed, believing, in his arrogance, that the world was against him.

Tywin's plans were simple before. He wanted his son to wed the Tully girl to have access to the Riverlands. Then, his daughter would have married the crown princess and become the Queen of Westeros. Their children would have Lannister blood, making the house of the Lion a powerful entity for decades to come. Tywin, as the Hand of the King, would spread his legacy even beyond, and even then. He'll use this Dwarf son for something useful. Yet, that never came to pass. Jaime was on the Kingsguard still and seemed inclined to still be there.

Cersei wasn't going to marry the King, not now or ever. She was not only failing to seduce the King, but she was making herself to be a target. All thanks to her folly.

"I had to secure a marriage for her," Tywin whispered, trying to think of something.

"Brandon Stark was partially married to Catelyn Tully. I don't know if they wed already. But never mind that. The North is of no use for me."

Tywin stared at the map and saw three possibilities. It was either Robert Baratheon, Lord Jon Arryn, or Prince of Dorne. But, two were already a problem.

Robert Baratheon was in love with Lyanna Stark so much that he caused problems with the crown. Almost a rebellion was generated thanks to him. Then, there was the Prince of Dorne, Oberyn Martell. He was whoremonger. Worse than Robert, if someone adds the fact that the second son of the Martell family just beds anything with holes. Not only was he a wildcard. But Tywin didn't trust Martell with her daughter's life, not one bit. The entire thing was a mess, and there was no end. Jon Arryn was an old man. Oberyn Martell, while a prince, was still the second son, and Robert Baratheon, who was in his eyes the better candidate, was already to marry that girl.

"What should I do now?"

Tywin whispered, looking and thinking desperately. The Old Lion wasn't a desperate man. No, he would wait and take his chances at a later date. Things weren't over. Maybe, his daughter wouldn't be able to become Queen. But that doesn't mean his grandchildren wouldn't have the chance. Tywin would play the long game and measure his opportunity shortly. He couldn't do much with that thing around.

The dragon lady was everywhere. She heard and saw everything. How did she do that? Tywin wouldn't be sure, but it unnerves him. He has seen the magic with his own eyes. The witchcraft was beyond anything he could ever consider accurate. It seems all those legends about magic. About old Gods and spooky histories were all ready. Or some of them, at the very least. Yet, what concerned him more, was the closeness of that Dragon with the Targaryen children. So, with no hope of daring to kill such beast, such a monster. Tywin would do the opposite if one of his grandchildren were to wed a Targaryen child in the future. Then, they would have a mythical Dragon behind them to protect them. That's the biggest take that Tywin could see.

Having a living god as a protector sounds incredibly pleasing to Tywin. Truth be told, he didn't care about the possibility of the Red Emerald Dragon being a God. Tywin just ignored it at best. It was a terrifying thought that no mortal man should think. Nevertheless, it was something he couldn't ignore at all. Still, Tywin believed that as long he played his role, nothing would happen to him. Besides, he has seen how little the Dragon Lady cared for the Game of Thrones. She saw it as nothing but boredom, an annoyance. That's why Tywin would take the opportunity to befriend the creature and obtain the Dragon's favor.

"All for the future of my legacy," Tywin muttered. "All for the Lannister name."

Yet, the question remains, how to do it? Tywin would have to think about it for a while. Still, his mind was also focusing on the matters of her daughter's future married as long as Cersei didn't do anything stupid. Tywin would be able to sort it out. Maybe, he'll deal with the Stark girl somehow. After all. Accident happens.

Hawke focused on the sensation surrounding her. It's been a fortnight since she has taken residence in the Red Keep. Mostly just looking intimidating to everyone around and being the spooky dragon lady. Yet, as fun court intrigue could be, she has taken her time to inspect the Veil in the castle and read about the Magic of Old Valyria and the world. That's her main goal, besides taking care of those cute children.

Hawke spent her time in the library, reading as much as possible. She has learned that the world was currently in an era where magic was considered long forgotten or somewhat unpredictable. Few people could actually understand the lost arts of magic. And even fewer who could practice it.

Hawke wondered the reason why magic doesn't exist here. It does exist technically, but it was nothing compared to Thedas. Not one bit.

"Asshai-By-the-Shadow? What a strange name for a city. But, it looks like an interesting place. If I ignore the Blood magic taking place there," Hawke muttered, looking at the world map.

"Also, Valyria seems like an interesting place to visit."

Hawke has concluded that she needs to explore the world she currently lives in. There was so much she had to learn and discover.

"I need to find a way to fix the Eluvian. Maybe, searching for something that could...?" Hawke muttered to herself, feeling a bit lost about where to start. Yet, she was a woman who was determined. The more she learned from the world and its magic. The more prepared Hawke would be for whatever dangers were out there. She hasn't forgotten that dream. So, Hawke was sure there was something incredible dangerous waiting in the darkness.

Could it be a Ruin-type event? Hawke thought deeply. This world may have faced something like that in the past. The records are difficult to read and don't make sense. Yet, I had to know if that was the case. If what I read about the Long Night is accurate and not just a fairy tale. Then, maybe, I need to prepare.

Hawke also felt there was more going on. She was very good at sensing danger. Hawke doesn't doubt that the so-called Others were out there. That's why she'll stop at nothing to learn more about them.

Hawke hummed as she sensed someone arriving where she was.

"Lady Amell, are you busy?" The King's mother, Rhaella, asked, and it took not long before she noticed the large dragon lady standing there, with books surrounding her. Hawke smiled gently at her.

"Rhaella, when I read about the beauties of the Targaryen family, the image of you came to mind," Hawke called, sultry, as Rhaella blushed at her. Hawke would lie if she said she didn't find the King's mother attractive. She was a wonderful woman. But Hawke knew that the previous Queen of Westeros wasn't one to lay with a woman. Sadly, she still likes to flirt.

"My lady, please, you're making me feel like a young woman," Rhaella joked gently.

"You're still a young woman, my good lady. Never doubt it. You can still find love and peace," Hawke said, with a hint of honesty.

"If the gods are good with it, I'll relish on it. But now, I must focus on my family and future child," Rhaella whispered, slowly stroking her stomach.

"I know you will. You're a wonderful mother, but If you wish, I could assist in your birth," Hawke said honestly.

"I wish not to bother you," Rhaella replied, surprised to hear the Dragon Lady offering her help.

"It's not bothersome. I wish to help you," Hawke said. "Also, I will not lie and say I am worried about your health."

"My health?" Rhaella asked worriedly.

Hawke approached Rhaella and stared at her. Hawke could feel, even see, Rhaella's body. She didn't know why everything felt more powerful when it came down to her senses. But now, Hawke could feel people's heartbeats. Perceive their blood flowing inside their veins. Their muscles, bones, and everything inside them. Hawke's healer's capabilities were more powerful now. So, she felt that Rhaella was ill or weak. She didn't know how unhealthy Rhaella clearly was. But, she believed that her birth could be pretty troublesome and dangerous.

"Tell me, how do you feel, normally? Any pain? Headaches? Muscle ache? Anything?" Hawke asked, and Rhaella just thought for a while.

"Uh, I feel discomfort down there," Rhaella whispered, embarrassed. "And sometimes, I do feel some fever and headache. But nothing too worrisome."

Hawke hummed, thinking about what she had heard. "If you accept, I could inspect it."

"Inspect it?" Rhaella muttered, feeling uncomfortable. Her pain in her private parts was something she wasn't very open about. A discomfort she didn't want anyone to know about. She didn't want someone like Pycell to look or even touch her. But Rhaella felt more comfortable talking about it with the Dragon Lady. Maybe, it was something serious, and she didn't want to put the health of her child in danger.

"If you wish," Hawke said gently. She was a professional healer, after all. She didn't want to bring discomfort to her patients. "I'll not force you to do anything you don't want."

"No, no, you're right, Lady Amell," Rhaella spoke. "I trust you."

Hawke smiled at her. "Maybe tonight, when you are more relaxed."

"Thank you, my lady," Rhaella said before suddenly remembering what she came here for. "Ah, I forgot, Elia wishes to speak with you and the small council."

"Oh? Something happened?"

"Yeah, Robert and my dear son seemed to have been... in a small argument."

"Argument?"

"Men are foolish when a woman is in the middle of certain situations."

Hawke arrived at the Small Council room and, with one look, Hawke noticed Elia's face. She seemed stressed, angry, and incredibly annoyed by the whole thing.

"Lady Amell, a pleasure to see you here," Varys said smilingly, which brought a frown to Hawke.

"So, the King is not dead, then," Hawke said, earning a sigh from Elia.

"He's not, but he will wish to be, once he gets here, of that, I swear," Elia muttered. "Why did he accept the duel?"

Elia's voice carried a large and annoyed tone as she stared at Varys, who seemed rather glad that the whole thing ended on a bright side. A better outcome than the one he feared so much.

"It appears that the Baratheon's fury is real," Varys replied. "Whatever was going in Lord Baratheon's mind ended up with the idea of defending his honor."

"A fool," Tywin added, apparently disdain for the Lord of the Stormlands' actions. "He would have caused a battle if his bannermen weren't loyal to the crown and King Rhaegar."

"A good thing it didn't transpire as he wished. But nevertheless, Rhaegar has pardoned the Lord of the Stormlands' actions," Varys said, and now the Small Council showed their apparent scorn at their King's actions. It was one thing to clear a misunderstanding but another to challenge the King only to defend his ego. Nevertheless, it didn't deter Rhaegar's, soft heart. Or at least, that was what they all believed.

"He should have executed Lord Baratheon for treason!" Jon Connington declared. "To allow an unruly Lord to get away with this clear insult to the crown!"

Tywin being the man he was, agreed with the action. "The King should set the example to other lords across the Seven Kingdoms about what would happen to those who dare to raise up. This was a foolish move by his grace."

Elia clearly didn't share the opinions of some of the members of the Small Council. No matter how much Robert Baratheon's foolish actions could have caused the worst outcomes for all of them. Elia's fears were still there. She was furious about Rhaegar risking his life in such a fashion. Nevertheless, as his Queen. She needed to always have his back, to support him in every way possible. And a part of her understood Rhaegar's actions too, and why he chose to forgive Robert Baratheon. Rhaegar didn't want to be like his father.

"I'll take this as an opportunity to set an example of him not being like his father," Oberyn Martell drawled, looking at his sister with a smile.

"Explain?" Tywin asked with a cold voice. Oberyn wasn't one to feel intimidated by the Lion of the Rock at all. The Red Viper smirked at him while he put his foot on the table.

"We already had enough deaths thanks to the Mad King. We don't need another bloodthirsty monarch, right? Perhaps, If it was me. I would have sent Robert Baratheon to the Night's Watch. But, that's just me."

"I agreed with Prince Oberyn. Mercy is something we lack in the current times. It is a good message to everyone that our King will not follow his father's steps," Varys added.

Hawke was just hearing everything while she lazily leaned on the wall. Hearing the King was alive was enough for her. She didn't honestly care about everything else. Not truly, Hawke accepted protecting the Targaryen family while the King was away only because Hawke liked the kids and was curious about the history of the Dragon family. Among other things, she wanted to know.

Now that everything was settled down. Hawke now had to move to do something else. I have to explore and discover the magic of this world. Hawke thought while the conversation kept on going. Leaving those cute children away would be sad, but her quest was reasonably necessary. Besides, it wasn't as if she would never come back. Hawke would only be out for a few years, perhaps a bit more.

"Lady Amell," Elia's voice snapped Hawke back to reality.

Hawke looked at the rest of the Small Council leaving. It seems she dozed off for a while. And missed the rest of the meeting.

"Forgive me for disturbing you," Elia said. "But I thought you'll like to hear about what transpires in the Stormlands."

"Mm, it's good the King didn't die, but I doubt he'll survive your anger," Hawke joked softly as Elia chuckled nervously.

"Yeah, I'll have a serious discussion with him once he comes back."

Elia sighed deeply, still feeling stressed and with a severe headache gradually making her suffer. Hawke noticed and decided to help the poor woman. She has been through a lot in the last weeks.

"Here, let me help you," Hawke put her hand on Elia's forehead, and suddenly a soft green light appeared. Elia squealed slightly but then moaned softly. She felt a cold breeze inside her head, gradually removing the ache. Her body also seemed relieved, and Elia's reaction made Hawke known. She was doing a great job.

"Better?" Hawke asked, smiling.

"Y-Yeah, I do feel better," Elia replied, breathing slowly. "I feel like new!"

Hawke chuckled at the Queen's reaction.

"My good lady, I hope you're not hurting my dear sister," Oberyn spoke, approaching them. "Hearing her moan quite loud was not something I expected to happen here."

"Oberyn, shut it!" Elia hissed, embarrassed. "Lady Amell was just taking my headache away."

"Oh, truly? I bet it felt rather pleasing," Oberyn smirked sultrily, still lusting for Hawke. The Dragon Lady just rolled her eyes. But had to admit that Oberyn was a man who didn't give up. If he were a woman, Hawke would have gladly thought about it.

"Perhaps, you could take my pain away, my lady? You could do one of those massages, in my room, at night."

"Not happening, prince Oberyn," Hawke replied amusingly.

"Brother, stop disrespecting her!" Elia hissed angrily, to which Oberyn chuckled.

"I meant no disrespect, lady Amell," Oberyn replied with rare honesty. "I just like flirting with a gorgeous woman. But I'll stop if it angers you. I swear it."

It was clear that Oberyn, while a lustful man, clearly understood when no, means no. Also, it seems that Oberyn knows that Lady Amell was their most notable ally in the Seven Kingdoms.

Hawke chuckled; Oberyn reminded her of Zevran a lot.

"None was taken, prince Oberyn. I don't mind your flirting, just as long we both know it is never going to happen."

Oberyn smiled brightly. "Thank you, my lady."

Elia sighed deeply but also noticed the sudden change in Hawke's posture.

"My lady, you have been quite distant lately. It is something wrong?"

Hawke hummed deeply, thinking it would be better to tell them what she would do soon. But she'll do it no there. Many people could hear.

"Let's talk somewhere, a quieter place."

Hawke looked around the courtyard and saw a few people doing their usual job with the garden. Hawke wasn't a fool. She knew that they were all spies.

So, she waved her hands, and suddenly a large green sphere appeared, surrounding Hawke, Rhaella, Oberyn, and Elia. It startled them. There was no reason to lie. They were still comprehending Hawke's power.

"It's to cancel the noise," Hawke said. "No one could hear us talking inside this sphere."

"Oh, nice," Oberyn whispered, touching the green sphere with his hand. "This is utterly amazing."

"Lady Amell, what's the reason for such secrecy?" Rhaella asked.

"Mm, I will travel for a while," Hawke announced. She wanted to be as upfront as possible. There was no reason for her to hide things.

"You're going to leave?" Elia asked, surprised.

"Yes, I have to."

"Why?"

Hawke hummed deeply. "What do you know about the Long Night?" She asked, and it seemed her question was taken by surprise.

"A tale to scare kids," Oberyn replied, frowning. "A legend at best, just like the Children of the Forest and giants."

"The Children of the Forest are real," Hawke said, shocking all of them. She still remembered what the spirit told her while in the Veil. They existed, and perhaps they were hiding somewhere. But if they were truly there. Then, that means the Others were also hiding.

"Remember, prince Oberyn; you're talking with a dragon capable of doing magic."

Oberyn, who seemed ready to argue, shut his mouth. He had nothing to argue back. So, he decided to just listen.

"My lady, the Others have been gone for thousands of years," Rhaella whispered with a sense of fear.

"Every legend has truth in it. Magic was here once. You only have to look back at Valyria. Your ancestors were the prime example of magic in the world. Something happened that pushed the magic away. I had to find out why, and the Others and the Long Night is just a part of the reason."

Hawke then looked at Rhaella's belly. "You have magic in you, Rhaella, just like the children."

Elia trembled at those words, and Oberyn felt his sister's shaking hand. Rhaella looked contemplative, deep in thought, wondering why she felt so excited at the notion of her children having such a gift.

"It's small and hard to notice. But it is there," Hawke said.

"I grew up hearing the stories of the Targaryen's Magic. But that was before the Doom of Valyria. But all of what we once were was lost a long time ago. We don't know much about Valyria anymore, only histories told from one person to another. Only what we have been told."

Hawke nodded. She also thought that while it was confirmed that the Valyrian had magic. It was different now. Maybe, her sole presence was the reason why she could sense the magic in them.

Also, Hawke wondered, if she could fix the Eluvian, could she bring magic back to the world? However, that thought terrifies her. She would practically become the reason why this world ended up in ruins. But, if there was a way to slowly bring the magic back to the world. Would it be worth it?

"I don't wish to scare you, but if your children could use magic. It will be better if they are capable of controlling it, don't you think?" Hawke asked Elia, who seemed deep in thought.

"I guess," Elia muttered, with uncertainty in her eyes.

Hawke realized she was only bringing problems to Elia, and it was something she didn't want to do.

"It's not going to harm your children, I swear it. And it would take years before they manifest anything like magic. If any, I do not know precisely what it means to be born Targaryen."

Those words, while easing Elia's worries, didn't deter her fears for the future of her children. Thankfully, Rhaella better understood her heritage and what the Dragon Lady meant to them; learning more about the family's magic was enough to relieve Elia's fears.

"Elia, dear, it is better to prepare now for the future. We have the fortune that Lady Amell gave us the head-ups to understand what could happen."

"I know. I should have expected something like this," Elia whispered. "Marrying into the Targaryen family was quite the gamble."

"I'll call it a dangerous gamble," Oberyn muttered.

"Nevertheless, that's one of the reasons I'll travel to Old Valyria," Hawke stated. "I have to investigate exactly what to expect when it comes to the Valyrian magic and how it works. As well to find more about the Long Night."

"It's a perilous trip, my lady. Valyria was cursed," Oberyn said, and Hawke smirked.

"Don't worry; I can protect myself."

"Rhaenys is going to be upset," Elia joked weakly, struggling to accept the reasoning behind Hawke's departure still.

"Don't worry. I'll make sure to visit Rhaenys in her dreams," Hawke said softly.

"Dreams?" Oberyn asked. "What...?"

"I guess I'll have to explain that," Hawke muttered. "But I'll still wait until Rhaella's birth. I want to assist during the delivery."

"Besides, I wish to be here when the King arrives. Not only do I wish to tell him about my departure personally. But, I want to see his reactions when he sees Elia's angry face."

Oberyn laughed widely. "Aye, that'll be quite the show."

The day came when the King arrived at King's Landing. The entire family was there, waiting for him to arrive finally, and he did. However, it was clear that the King wasn't completely unscathed in his duel with Robert Baratheon. The apparent wound on his shoulder and what appears to be his chest made it known. He was still recovering.

Elia quickly hugged him, but not before slapping him hard enough for everyone to hear it. The Kingsguard, Ser Barristand, and Ser Arthur sighed deeply. They swore an oath to protect the King with their life, but nothing could protect Rhaegar from his enraged wife. Not even them. Besides, they were glad Elia was there to tell him their same worries.

"You utter fool! You are an idiot! Why did you risk your life?!" Elia screamed at him, and Rhaegar looked embarrassed and guilty.

"It was something I had to do. My honor was in line, as the honor of House Targaryen," Rhaegar whispered softly. "Forgive me."

"You stupid men, and your honor!" Elia hissed angrily but couldn't stop hugging him.

Hawke could only wonder what honor has to do with anything. It seems that the entire duel was entirely for something else. But, at the same time. She couldn't care.

Now that the King was there. It was just a matter of time. Hawke's quest was across the Narrow Sea. There, she would find out more about the world. About the Others and what happened to the magic of the world.

"Mm, I have to admit, exploring sounds very entertaining."

Hawke whispered, smiling at the excitement ahead of her.
