Chapter 23 Weekend

Harry was so exited for the next morning. He had known he'd play quidditch one day but was still in shock. He never thought he would be one to break hundred year streak. And he had not even had to try out. One thing in his life he could thank the brat for. Ron had been a pain in his life for years but for once he did help. Though Harry would have been happier to try out then Neville being put in danger as he was. Ron was mad about detention but furious Harry had made the team. He hated Harry showed him up in all he tried. The fool was planning to try out for the keeper and chaser open for Hufflepuff the next day. He stood no chance at either but it would be a laugh to watch.

Harry had headed bright and early for the field feeling a bit anxious but happy as well. He was a bit confused when he saw Cho and her friends when he came out of the change room with the team. He could see he was not the only one.

Sean saw her broom. "I told you try outs were off. I have chosen."

Cho fumed. "You can only do that if there is an opening. This isn't right."

Rodger laughed. "Forgot Tom graduated? There was an opening."

Murietta spoke up. "You have a reserve. Its her right to move up."

Cho added. "Or try out. I have the right to defend my spot. You can't simply replace me."

Sean sighed. "That only applies to official ones. We made it clear you were not."

Cho put her hands on her hips. "Because you were bias against a first year."

Rodger pointed at himself. "Sean and I both were our first year, and Cal last year. And we just chose Harry."

Murietta fed her friend's anger. "Because he is the hero. You are kissing up."

Cal said in a loud whisper. "No because she couldn't manage a basic dive."

Cho stood her ground. "I demand a chance to show up fly boy."

Sean looked to Harry. "Good practice."

Harry shrugged. "Sure."

Rodger confided as they went. "You could fly blind folded. Old captain was too nice for his own good."

Sean had taken over as their old captain had finished. Cal had been one of 2 reserve chasers and had been promoted. The other was not hurt as unlike Cho he knew Cal a better player. No official try outs but a scrimmage was to be played to pick some new reserved chasers and a seeker. Cho had been told she would even have to try out for that. She took to her broom sure to show Harry up and get her rightful spot on the team. She actually called to him he could take her spot as reserve if he was not too ashamed to lose his spot.

Harry hit the air intent on showing up the girl. It wasn't hard as she was as bad as he was told, not Ron's level but they would not win with her. She wasn't even 2nd best as a seventh year Naomi out flew her. Naomi was not Harry's level but good.

Naomi came to Harry when he landed. "I had hoped to play my final year but you killed it."

Sean agreed as Harry thanked her. "You just confirmed our choice. Naomi you are reserve."

Cho was simmering. "I could understand Naomi, let a senior have a chance but him? What a joke."

Rodger laughed. "Joke would be you."

Cho went to storm off. "I am going to Flitwick. He knows you have it out for me."

Harry watched. "Can she?"

Rodger shook his head. "No. The choice is up to the captain. Flitwick would only step in if it was bias."

Sean agreed. "He may be one of the nicest but he won't put up with that. You earned your spot."

Harry was surprised but happy to see his friends including the twins."I wasn't expecting you guys. No try outs really."

Fred laughed. "Glad we came. Bit more exciting then we thought."

George agreed. "Charlie better not come any time soon. Oliver will want to do more then send a howler when he sees."

Hermione motioned. "Brought you some lunch. Thought you'd want to stay."

Draco saw his confusion. "Hufflepuff are after and are having try outs."

Fred piped in. "My brother is trying out. Will be a true show."

Harry laughed as he joined them for lunch. He saw Ron fly enough to know this would be worth a laugh or two. Cho and Ron may be kindred spirits in their delusions. The twins had their practice the next day. Harry saw a group of kids come out as well as the team. Beyond Neville watching with them, Ron was the only first year boy. There was one girl, Susan who was trying out for chaser.

Harry and his friends practically rolled in laughter when Ron actually crushed into a goal post. The fool had tried out for any position and keeper was his worst. A first year made reserve but it was Susan not Ron.

Ron was so furious when he learned. He would give Cho a run. "All my family but Percy play. I have to play."

Cedric shrugged. "You can be towel boy if you want."

Ron was spitting mad. "Towel boy? At least manager would be less insulting."

Fred put his brother in a headlock. "You are no Percy. Be even bad at that."

Cedric admitted. "I have already appointed one of your housemates."

Neville beamed when Cedric turned to him. "I am excited. "

Harry clapped him on the back. "You didn't tell us. You'll be amazing."

Ron spat. "Manager should know about the game. Porky there won't even fly."

Neville went pale. "Harry and Draco have taught me."

Cedric agreed. "He chatted me up at dinner last night. He truly has a mind for it."

Harry went to lead him off. "I am happy some of us rubbed off on you. You may not be allowed at my practices."

Draco tried to sound serious. "Now that we know you may try to spy."

Neville was pale a moment till he knew they were joking. "No, only on the lions."

The group all headed in as Ron could be heard trying to plead his case. Turns out Ron got both Harry and Neville their spot. Well Harry would have either way. But Cedric had heard what happened to Neville and thought to chat him up. He was surprised to find Neville knew about a lot in the game. He thought the position would be good for his confidence but that he would also do amazing at it. Neville was shocked an owl came from Gran with a gift over dinner. He wrote to tell her and she was proud. She sent him a magical planner to use.

Harry got his own when he got sweets from Papa. "He is proud. And a bit jealous I beat him and dad."

Harry was not as anxious the next day but was excited. He was meeting Hagrid after dinner to go into the woods. He had gone many times since before two but this was still a change. Harry would continue with the centaurs but Grandpa Fleamont was going to finally teach him his empath and elemental side though he would continue elven as well. And Papa would of course work with him on being an animagus. Harry had been given permission by Minerva so he wasn't sneaking nor would curfew be an issue for him.

Hagrid was happy to have Harry at school. Harry loved visiting him when he came to school. Harry may be a cat person but he always liked the man's dog. Fang was only seven. Hagrid had taken a while after his last dog was killed to move on. Lucius had kept his word and bought him Fang.

Harry laughed as Fang nearly knocked him over. "Hey boy."

Hagrid hugged him. "I am so happy you are eleven. You have to come for tea next time."

Harry knew to avoid most of his cooking but smiled. "Happy to come for tea I promise. But I think we should go."

Hagrid grabbed his lantern. "The centaurs will be not far in. They will take you."

Firenze was waiting for him in the paddock. "There you are. My father and the others are waiting."

Harry clambered on his back. "I thought we would continue training here. All my teachers."

Firenze knew he meat usually adult humans were not taken to the village. Pollux had been an exception. "In future yes. But tonight this is best."

Harry wondered. "Will I be able to come as an adult? Or only now as I am a minor?"

Firenze assured him. "Though that is some years from now, you will always be welcome."

Harry had to wonder. "Because I am an heir? Or my elf? I know grandfather always stays with you."

Firenze reminded him. "The woods shield his magic even more than a manor would. And all magical species are welcome."

"So it is my elven blood? But I am safe."

"You still ask much." Firenze laughed. "Part has to do with your family on both sides. But also part is simply you."

Magorian had taken a true interest in Harry since he was little. In the past the centaurs had taught some kids but in the paddocks. Albus and Voldemort had both brought an end to that. But no student had come to the village and Magorian had never met them. But he had been hands on training Harry in herbs and stars though Firenze helped as his heir. It may be his elven and Gryffindor blood at first but Magorian was fond of Harry for his own person as well. Harry had liked the lord since the first time he came into the woods.

Harry would come to the village nights he trained with Magorian or if grandfather was there as safer. But beyond tonight they would use the paddock for any other lessons he had along the way. Pollux was an exception due to training two, now one, partial elves.

Harry was happy to see his family but he bowed to Magorian first."Greetings Lord Magorian."

The old centaur smiled. "No need for such formality. You are welcome as always. I am happy to assist your family."

Harry turned to hug Papa but also Fleamont and Pollux. "I was not expecting all three. I thought we were waiting till next week as well."

Fleamont motioned him into a hut. "That was the plan. But then your Papa told me you felt the school."

Harry was confused. "You told me it could happen. It was why we spoke."

Sirius had been surprised too."His dad had as well. He was only an empath."

Fleamont sighed. "Some have more. We need to bring out your powers before you cause real havoc."

Harry was worried. "Could I hurt someone? I know we are fire."

Laughing Fleamont assured him. "No. Just cause havoc with the school. It is how the great hall got its roof."

Harry was shocked. "Really? I thought it has been like that from day one."

"Nearly. It was Godric's grandson who caused that hiccup. Unlike many, it was thought a good change and kept."

"Not all were?" Harry still worried.

"My father got a cold third year and he froze all the stairways. Took two days to fix."

Harry giggled a bit. "Doesn't sound too bad. Most places stairs don't move."

"Except they all stopped mid move stranding students in random spots."

Harry wondered. "You want my powers to come? I thought that would be more risks. And how?"

Fleamont brought out a bottle. "You drink this. It was used to reveal our powers in the past."

An elemental was like a normal wizard before eleven. Their magic could come out accidentally. And like then it could be riskier if no control. Henry had been given the potion and training after. Most elementals didn't show till teens, Henry had been young for it. But Harry had shown signs as a baby. The potion would be like removing a block so his powers would not come out as a slip. He would still need training but it would lower the risk. He would not renovate his classroom with the hiccups. Harry giggled at the image but he knew that it was important. He drunk the potion on a cot in the hut to make sure he was okay. It was a rare occasion but more than one had an odd reaction to it.

Harry felt a bit odd as his fingers tingled and some flame came."Oh. How?"

Fleamont smiled. "Just focus on it. You should be able to shut them off."

Harry took a moment but it worked. "Did the potion not work? I mean that seems riskier than stairs."

Fleamont told him to try. "Try and make flame."

Harry tried but didn't even get a tingle. "Oh."

Fleamont sat with him. "Took my father a year after the potion. You may be quicker as you are stronger but it will still take time."

Pollux chimed in. "Your elf blood will likely to continue to intensify it. It is why you will train with us both."

Sirius reminded him as well. "Galrod plans to visit more. It is safer now you are here."

Harry smiled with the reminder. "I am happy. Grandpa can teach me a lot but the elves around helps too."

Pollux was not hurt. "I have no elf. I have done my best with what Irma taught me.I have learned as well with you."

Harry actually hugged him. "You have taught me a lot and not simply my elven. You are an amazing teacher."

Pollux returned the hug but shot Sirius a look. "Far easier to teach then some."

Sirius groaned and motioned. "You should get back to school. We will see you next weekend."

Harry was growing tired and though he had his cloak he should be back for curfew. Harry had his first full day the next day as Friday had only been a half day of school. Harry may have been excited by his extra lessons but also about normal as well. Harry may love pranks and flying but he had a lot in common with Percy. In reality he was a mix of Bill and Charlie then any of the Weasley boys.

Sirius watched him go. "He is going to put us all to shame one day."
