"No, no, bring it to the left! Yeah, that's it, keep going! Okay, Okay, right there, stop!"
Annabeth breathed a sigh of relief as she wiped the sweat off her brow. Sitting down on a bench, she looked up at the newly constructed temple dedicated to the fallen demigods with pride in her eyes. It was beautiful, to say the least, perfectly representing the demigods who had fought and died in the previous two wars against Kronos and Gaea. Art and depictions of battles and other important moments were etched in the marble such as Silena Beaureguard sacrificing herself, Micheal Yew holding the bridge long enough for Percy to destroy it, The Seven on their prophesied quest, and the Greeks and Romans combining arms to defeat Gaea. There were plenty more stories on the marble, too many to recount properly with the little time she had now that she had Godly responsibilities. The final touch they had just completed was putting Percy's statue on the top of the temple, with him pointing his sword forward which symbolized his leadership and bravery.
The daughter of Athena smiled softly as she gazed upon her late lover's beauty, the sun gleaming perfectly across his celestial bronze features. She knew Percy wouldn't approve of all the statues of himself going up all across Olympus and the camps. She had a feeling he would say their fallen friends would be more deserving of that than him. Regardless, she was going to put up his statues not just for him but ultimately for her as a reminder. She was a God now and that inevitably meant she would live for eternity. An eternity that didn't include him. Eventually, she would forget his face, his muscles, his hair, his voice, everything that made him…him. That's why, while he was still fresh in her mind, she would put up as many statues as she could. To never forget his beauty, his bravery, and his loyalty.
"I miss you." She whispered up at him, one lone tear streaking down her glowing tanned skin.
Sitting there, admiring Percy for Gods know how long, the minor Goddess of Wisdom and Architecture eventually flashed away from the temple into the large coliseum Olympus had for training and exhibitions. She teleported here specifically because with her new powers, other Gods could communicate with her telepathically no matter the distance between one another.
"Hey, Piper, what's up?" She asked, reappearing next to her friend who was sitting on the marble seats overlooking the middle of the arena. Piper had asked her to come here for some reason which was surprising considering none of them had ever bothered meeting in a place like this.
"Look at them go. Can you believe it?" The Goddess said, pointing to the combatants below. Looking to where her friend was pointing, Annabeth noticed that it was Jason and Frank who were sparring, although that wasn't the best term to describe it. Their fighting was just more than that. They wanted to kill each other it seemed. Ichor coated both their weapons and bodies. Their chest heaved for air and their muscles strained sharply. That didn't deter them however as they continued to try to get the upper hand on the other.
Parrying Jason's Imperial gold sword that aimed for his throat, Frank sent a punch directly into the son of Jupiter's jaw, making him fly backward into the arena's walls. The strength of Frank's new Godly powers was astronomical, to say the least. His punch was strong enough to break both Jason's jaw and the coliseum's walls from the impact.
"Fuck, that was good." Jason said, pushing his broken jaw back in place as he spat out the ichor that was pulling in his mouth. Getting to his feet, he smirked at his friend who was now in a defensive posture across from him. "You'll have to do better than that though."
Lightning danced across Jason's legs as he pushed forward at break-neck speeds. He immediately descended upon Frank like a tank, throwing a flurry of both lightning bolts and swipes of his sword. The son of Mars did his best to block the attacks but eventually one slipped past his guard. Now it was his turn to be sent flying across the arena.
"I'm not done yet, bro." Frank laughed as he got back up, a hint of insanity seeping out of his voice as he eyed Jason.
"You're about to be." The son of Jupiter replied with an equal tone, twirling his sword. Once again, the two continued to duke it out, neither one able to gain the upper footing over the other.
The women overseeing the fight decided to let the boys continue their needless squabble and elected to talk about all they had experienced since becoming Goddesses. Piper it seemed has had a wonderful time so far experiencing all that Godhood had to offer. Her powers had multiplied tenfold along with her beauty. Her relationship with her mother and father was better than ever and her responsibilities were easy enough for her to handle. The Olympians hadn't piled on the jobs for them heavily yet, except Annabeth, since they were brand new to this sort of thing but so far everything had been good for all of them. The only thing so far that has had some trouble would be her relationship with Jason which surprised the daughter of Athena.
"Everything is great, don't get me wrong." Piper sighed, resting her chin on her hand. "It's just this thing mom told me a while back."
"What'd she say?"
The daughter of Aphrodite leaned back against her seat, trying to think of the perfect way to describe what she was feeling. "She said that although Jason and I's love is strong, nothing can truly withstand time. Eventually, we'll both look for other partners outside of our relationship. It's just the way immortals are, she said."
Annabeth stayed silent as she took in that statement. She wanted to tell Piper that her mother was wrong and that she and Jason would have a happy relationship for the rest of eternity but the words wouldn't come out. She knew, despite her reluctance to it, that Aphrodite had far more experience than the both of them when it came to Godly relationships. She didn't like it one bit but had to admit it did make sense. Gods were eternally horny for the lack of a better term. Eventually, they'll act on those feelings with or without their spouse.
"So you believe that too, huh." Piper interrupted her thoughts, already knowing what she was thinking. "It makes sense, doesn't it? We could love each other all we want but eventually, we'll want more. That's just how we're hardwired."
"I guess. I-I don't really know, Piper. I love Percy with all my heart. He's everything to me." Annabeth sighed. "But he's gone now and I'll be here forever. Eventually, I'll probably want to experience that love again, if that's even possible."
The two Goddesses stayed quiet for the most part after that as they continued to watch the two Gods battle below. They had a lot on their minds and wished to desperately sort out their feelings before it caused some damage not just to them but to their relationships as well. Annabeth especially wanted to figure out her emotions, something she was never any good at. Would there be a time in the future when she would be in another relationship? Could she possibly love another man as much as she did Percy? She didn't know but maybe Piper was right. Eventually, she would want more out of her newly found eternity.
"Oh, looks like Frank won this time." Piper exclaimed, sitting up from her seat. "C'mon, let's all go eat at this new place I found in France. I think you'll like it."
Annabeth was hesitant to leave Olympus. She needed to start working on other projects her mother had laid out for her and wanted to get them done as soon as possible. Then again, however, she had been working nonstop for the past six months since she became a Goddess. Maybe it was time for her to take a step back. After all, she did have an eternity to do whatever she needed. Deciding against her better judgment, she went along with Piper, not realizing this was her first step in truly becoming a Goddess and leaving her mortal ways behind.
-Scene Change-
With a groggy groan of pain and exhaustion, the son of Poseidon slowly opened his eyes only to be greeted by an unexpected scene.
"What the…" He said, his voice coarse and dry from the lack of water. What laid before him was something that shouldn't have existed in Tartarus. It was something that should've been on the surface, maybe in a luxurious hotel. Scanning his surroundings, he couldn't believe that there was an actual garden around him. A garden so beautiful it could put Hera's to shame. A magnificent water fountain which was a statue of a man holding a sword on top of a horse stood in the center along with a multitude of exotic plants surrounding it.
Its beauty entranced the son of Poseidon. He never really cared for things like gardens but after being in Tartarus for what felt like forever now, he was captivated by the greenery. It was amazing to see a different color besides black, grey, and red.
Looking down, he found himself sitting in a white chair around a table with an umbrella. Food such as sandwiches, steaks, chicken, and a plethora of sides were on it, the mere sight almost causing him to drool. The aroma was strong, putting him in a trance. When was the last time he had actual food in his stomach? He couldn't remember. With a shaky hand and fixed eyes, he reached out. He wanted it so bad. He needed it. One bite couldn't hurt. It was just food.
"Enough." A voice suddenly whispered in his head. That one word broke him out of his trance, causing him to reel back his hand. What was he thinking? Why would he try to do that? He couldn't trust the food. He was still in Tartarus, right? Nothing could be trusted down here.
"Wow. I've never seen anyone have the willpower to resist my cooking." A woman's voice said to his left, causing his head to whiplash over to where she was. No words could describe the woman who suddenly materialized in front of him. Her white ethereal hair and white dress complemented her figure. Her pearly white teeth and joyful eyes smiled at him almost lovingly, like he was her lost lover who she had just reunited with. It brought warmth to Percy's body, something he thought only Annabeth could do.
Laughing at his awestruck gaze, the white-haired woman took a sip from her cup, leaning back on her chair as she enjoyed the brisk breeze the garden provided. The demigod didn't really know what to say. He had so many questions. Who was she? What was this place? Why was he here? How did he end up here? Endless questions racked his head but there was one above all the rest that plagued him. Was this place and this woman good? He didn't know the answer to that. He didn't sense evil here and his instincts weren't alerted at the moment which eased him slightly. That didn't mean he let his guard down though. He clearly remembered losing the fight against that Orc and being dragged off somewhere. Was this the place the monster took him to or had this woman saved him?
"I see you have a lot of questions. Not to worry, all will be answered in due time, Perseus." She said, causing his eyebrows to rise slightly.
"You know me?" He asked.
The beauty nodded her head, giving him an odd look as if he asked a dumb question. "Perseus Jackson. Titan and Primordial Slayer. The demigod who held the sky on his shoulders and saved the world. The demigod who even the great Gods of Olympus fear. Yes, I've heard of you."
Percy rolled his stiff shoulders once she was finished speaking. She knew him but he didn't know her. He could clearly sense she was a Goddess but didn't recognize her. He had never seen her on Olympus before nor had Annabeth ever mentioned a white-haired beautiful Goddess who could make awesome food.
Looking down at his hands, he suddenly made the realization that his body was completely healed. His leg wasn't broken, his breathing wasn't labored from the broken ribs, and his finger was intact once again. All that remained of the experience were scars but that was something he could deal with.
"My hands work wonders." The woman said slyly, raising her palm once he looked back up at her. So it had been her who healed him.
"T-Thank you." He replied, getting the hidden meaning behind what she had just said.
Okay, that's enough chit-chat for right now. I know you have questions but right now all I want is for you to eat. I'm sure it's been a hectic journey for you so far, right?"
It has…" Percy answered, looking hesitantly at the food laid out before him. He still didn't trust it. What if it was like the pomegranate seeds Persephone ate in the underworld and he became stuck in here? What if this woman wasn't good and she was poisoning him?
"I swear on the Styx its normal food, Perseus. It's not gonna hurt you." She pouted slightly, seeing the apprehension written on the man's face. That promise was all it took for him to stop holding back. Digging in like a starving dog, he ate anything and everything he could. He didn't care if he was being rude or he lacked proper table manners, he hadn't had food that wasn't rotten jerky or fiery water in forever. After only a few minutes the table had been cleared and his stomach was painstakingly full. Leaning back on his seat with a satisfied smile plastered on his face, he closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling of the breeze hitting his face. It almost felt like he was back at camp, sitting on the sand enjoying the ocean.
"Wow. I knew demigods could eat a lot but I didn't realize you would clear off the whole table."
"Oh, um, I'm sorry. I…"
"I'm kidding, Perseus. I'm glad you enjoyed it." The woman giggled as she swiped her hand through the air, making the now-empty plates disappear. Not knowing what to do now, he sat there awkwardly, patting his pockets absentmindedly. He was happy to feel Riptide was in there again, feeling reassured that if things happened to go south, he would have it.
"Now that you've eaten and rested, let me show you around. It's been a while since I've had guests. I'll answer your questions along the way." She said, getting up from her seat and grabbing his hand. Her touch brought goosebumps across his skin. She was warm, soft, and smooth, much different from his larger, calloused hand that had only held the grip of a sword.
Leading him through the garden, he was surprised to find out it went much farther back. Now he could see animals like birds flying through the air and fish swimming around in a small pond. Walking past it, he smiled for the first time in a long while as he felt the comforting motion of the water. He stopped for a moment to admire the fish that had felt his presence. They all crowded to the edge and looked up at him as if they wanted to speak but he couldn't hear them. That confused him slightly as he was able to speak with all manner of fish. These guys shouldn't be any different. Looking closer, he noticed that they seemed almost frantic for some reason.
The son of Poseidon was about to kneel down to get a better look but the woman suddenly dragged him along, saying she wanted to show him something. Seeing her smile at him, he all but forgot about the weird fish in the water, their frantic swimming continuing even as he walked away. Going past a small, wooden gate, they suddenly came across a large oak door that was embedded in a tree. Opening it and walking inside, Percy was surprised to find himself in what looked almost like a palace. The place was regal, to say the least, with white marble and gold encapsulating every corner
Looking upward at the magnificent golden chandelier that had lit candles on it, Percy couldn't believe that such a place existed outside of Olympus. Was he really in Tartarus or was this a different dimension inside of it?
"What is this place?" He asked.
"It's my palace as you can surmise. It was built by my husband in my honor." The Goddess replied, twirling around with outstretched hands.
"Your husband?"
"Yes, you heard me right. I'm sorry, Percy, but I'm already taken. Although I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing me." She replied, biting her finger teasingly. Percy did his best to stop his reddening face and instead distracted himself with the weapon and armor showcase they were passing by in a hallway. Even the display was regal with weapons and armor Percy could only ever hope of having. The power they contained within them he could feel even behind the glass. He was surprised to find that some of the armor looked Olympian. It had a silverish hue to it that only Olympian silver did. A very rare metal. How did she acquire it he wondered.
"Spoils from a war long, long ago. My husband personally acquired them during his time fighting." The Goddess answered his silent question, standing next to the demigod.
"Which war?" He asked, wondering if he might know of it. He wanted to know just how old this Goddess and her husband were. Maybe her answer could offer some clues.
"That's something that you can ask him. Now come, he wants to meet you."
Walking down the hallway past some more weapon showcases, the pair eventually made it to two grand oak doors that towered overhead. Stepping closer, he held back his surprise when they opened automatically, allowing them to walk inside. Once more, he was amazed by the place. It seemed they had walked into a throne room. Torches circled across the entirety of the walls along with art, statues, and etchings of battles he couldn't recognize carved in the walls. It was beautiful, rivaling Olympus even. With a black carpet rolled out underneath their feet, his eyes slowly drifted forward until it ended where two large white thrones were.
There was a man sitting on the left one, his posture relaxed with a hand resting on his cheek and leg draped over the other. He gave them a big smile as they walked forward. A smile, that although looked good, didn't have the same warmth as the Goddesses. It was a little unsettling to Percy, reminding him of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Standing in the middle of the throne room, Percy watched as she walked past him and sat on the other throne, the pair looking like Zeus and Hera. King and Queen of whatever this place was.
"Welcome, Perseus Jackson. I've heard so much about you." The man broke the silence, his red unblinking eyes staring through the demigod.
"I'm King Polemus and this is my wife Hybris."
