Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon or any of the songs I've drawn inspiration from (I'll be referencing the songs if anyone is interested to listen to the original versions J). I only own the original story and characters in it (Not a lot of OC; as the series gave us so many memorable characters, I wanted to explore more those that in my opinion didn't get to show their full potential).
Prologue pt2. – The Jealousy Tune.
As Daisy was making her way back to the party to let everyone know that Misty wouldn't be able to come back, she decided to take the path that passed through the pool.
She needed to see with her own eyes the situation to better know how to support her sister moving forward. This was new territory for her with Misty. Sure, Daisy had been there for Violet who was the most boy-crazy out of the sisters on several occasions when things did not turn well, and despite being the second youngest, Lily had always been really confident and not the type to let herself fall apart due to a failed romance, she'll just move quickly to the next "target"; but with Misty it was all new, she'd always been the polar opposite from all her sisters, always more interested in adventures and Pokémon, and completely ignoring the traditional girly stuff Daisy, Lil & Vi always enjoyed, including boys.
Just before approaching the outside pool, Daisy caught sight of what seemed to be Serena quickly leaving the scene heading towards the back exit of the gym while Ash just stood there in a confused manner just scratching his head.
If her eyes were not deceiving her, Daisy also saw a second boy coming out of the bushes opposite the pool side where Daisy was at, running towards the back exit to follow Serena, the boy must have been looking the situation unnoticed up to that point based on the surprised reaction from Ash. Daisy couldn't tell who the boy was though; out of Misty's friends, other than Tracey for obvious reasons, she was only familiar to Ash and Brock who she'd met first, May and Max who visited whenever May had a contest nearby and Serena because Daisy always noticed Misty anxious around the girl who blatantly displayed her own crush on Ash. As much as Daisy would have liked to think of herself as "the great detective Pikachu" for finding out of her sister's secret, the truth is, for anyone looking from outside well enough, the situation had always been quite obvious.
Misty's group of friends was too big, it was just too many teens for Daisy to keep track of them all, but she was sure the boy running behind Serena was one of them.
- "For Mew's sake! Teenagers are so much drama! No wonder Lil and Vi ran away to Cinnabar the second they had a chance to " – the blond sister said to herself while thanking all Pokémon deities not to be a teenager herself anymore.
Daisy decided to just continue her path back to the party through the spot where Ash was, as casually as she could pretending not to have witnessed any of the past events. It probably worked, because when the boy saw her, he approached.
-"Daisy have you seen Misty? We were supposed to meet here for a Pokémon race and it's been a long time with no sign of her" – The raven-haired boy said looking quite concerned.
- "Oh Ashy! Sorry sweetie, it must have been on her way here, but Misty suddenly started having a horrible headache, she seemed to have lost her balance and fell near the garden entrance, her knee is quite hurt, Tracey is with her applying first aid, but she asked me to tell everyone she's not feeling well enough to come back"
-" Is she OK? Can I help?" the boy asked with an even more concerned tone in his voice. While his Pikachu also started talking in his language which Daisy took as the Pokémon being concerned as well.
-"She's safe, but she really doesn't want to see anyone. You know how she is, always so stubborn! There's no arguing with that girl when she's in a bad mood" – Daisy said hoping the boy wouldn't press more as he was well aware of Misty's temper, he knew the girl's rage was a force to be reckoned with.
-"Let's go back to the main party area with the rest so I can give them the news please" – the blond girl pleaded. Daisy's intuition and the scenes she just watched made her think the whole "Serena situation" was worse in Misty's head than it was in reality, although she couldn't be 100% sure, but with the nervous state Misty was at, she couldn't risk having Ash going there after Misty explicitly said she dint want to face him today.
The boy and his Pikachu followed her reluctantly.
-"Can you tell her I'll call her tomorrow before leaving to my next trip to check how she's feeling?" – The boy was the one pleading this time.
-"Of course Ashy! I think tomorrow once she's calmed down she'll like to receive that call"- Daisy said in a very sweet tone trying to reassure the boy.
Once they made it back to the party area, they found out a couple of the guys had to leave as they needed to catch their trains home, and once Daisy shared the news on "Misty's accident" the rest helped tidying up and made their way back home as well, Ash, Brock May and Max being the last ones to leave in what seemed to be an attempt to see their friend returning. There was a reason those were the ones Daisy remembered, she could always tell those (Apart from Tracey), were the ones with the closest relationship to Misty.
While Daisy was sorting the guests at the party, Misty and Tracey stayed in the shed for a few more minutes waiting for Daisy's text to let them know that "the coast was clear" on the garden side so they could make it back to the back entrance of the Waterflower house.
- "When I saw them they really were only talking, it even looked a bit… awkward" Tracey said trying to calm down his friend.
- "She's elegant, pretty, caring, polite, sophisticated and doesn't yell at him all the time…. Why would it be awkward?" – Misty said listing all Serena's qualities sarcastically, while saying the last part feeling sorry for herself.
- "That's doesn't mean they're a match, everyone needs that "spark", you can't get a spark out of politeness, but I've certainly seen arguments filled with them" - The boy replied smiling at his friend.
- "That "spark" needs to come both ways, and it's obvious that in my case it doesn't" - The redhead kept in denial
In that moment Tracey's cell phone received the text from Daisy "Coast is clear in the garden, I'm with everyone at the gym tidying up"
- "I guess that's our cue, come on let's get you home, but I really think you should still talk to Ash after you feel better, none of us really know what even happened" – And as he said this, Tracey took Misty to the Waterflower house as Misty called Starmie and Psyduck back to their pokeballs thanking them for their help.
After Tracey gave her a cup of camomile tea, Misty mentioned that the headache wasn't gone yet and she could really do with some rest, so she went to her room while the boy waited for Daisy to come back, although while Misty was taking the stairs to her room he did shout out loud for Misty to hear some last words.
- "Your sister's right, you know? I don't understand how you cannot see that you're a Waterflower, you keep underestimating yourself" – He truly did see Misty as the little sister he never had being an only child, and on his eyes, his little sister was a beautiful girl that he as an older brother was ready to protect at any cost, so it hurt him deeply to see that she would think so little of herself.
When Daisy finally came back to the house, she told Tracey what she saw in the garden and the conversation she had with Ash, and both Daisy and Tracey were on the same page, neither was convinced Ash and Serena were a thing, but Misty was so stubborn, that they knew it was going to be difficult to convince her otherwise after what she saw.
Tracey had an important job at Professor Oak's lab the next day, so as much as he wanted to, he couldn't stay overnight to keep the girls company, but Daisy reassured him that perhaps this time, Misty did need an older sister to talk to her, and she was going to do her best. Saying that, she kissed him goodbye, although before the boy left she did whisper on his ear "You still owe me a full make out session next time" and winked at him and giggled the boy blushed from the unexpected comment before she quickly closed the door not to give him a chance to reply.
Daisy went upstairs and prepared a hot bath for her sister, and after everything was ready she knocked on Misty's door.
- "Come on, I know there's no way you are getting any sleep now with everything that happened, you'll be better off with the nice bubble bath I prepared for you" – The eldest sister said thorough the door, and to her surprise, it took almost no time for Misty to come out.
- "You're probably right, I've been in bed for a while and the headache isn't even getting better" as Misty said this, Daisy handed her a towel and a head towel wrap.
- "Oh, and by the way… thank you for today" – Misty said in a slightly embarrassed tone, in what Daisy thought was the first time her sister seemed grateful for her to have been around.
- "Any time sis"
Misty did spend at least a good hour in the bubble bath, her sister must have put some salts, and Misty had to admit, the whole thing was helping her feel better, at least the headache was gone, even though she still felt like her heart was shattered in a million pieces. Once she saw that her fingertips had turned too much like raisins, she decided it was now time to get out.
The towel Daisy had handed her was one covered in Starmies that Misty used to adore as a kid – "I guess she does notice more than I thought" – Misty thought to herself, but as she tried to wrap herself in the towel she noticed that now it was challenging for that small towel to fully cover her. It was the same story as with all her clothes since a couple weeks ago that summer.
-"I'm fed up not fitting on anything" – the girl said to herself and covered with the towel as much as she could, luckily her room is just a few steps away from the bathroom, but as she opened the bathroom door, Daisy was standing there with a plate filled with cookies.
At first Daisy didn't seem to notice much Misty's discomfort trying to cover herself with the small towel, because Daisy seemed nervous looking at the floor trying to talk to her sister when she finally managed to say "I thought… we could have some cookies in your room and have a talk?" But as Daisy got the courage to look at her sister in the eyes to really get her to open up to her (Something she never thought Misty would agree to), Daisy couldn't help but jumping in surprise (Dropping the plate of cookies while doing so).
- "Oh my HO-Oh, When did you get THOSE?" said the blond girl looking at her sister and pointing to her chest area in surprise (which Misty was barely managing to cover with the towel)
- "Shut up Daisy" Misty shouted while her face was redder than a tomato "It's because you gave me a stupid tiny towel"
- "Because that was your favourite" – The blond protested.
- "Yeah… when I was 10" – The redhead shouted (at least for this brief moment the redhead seemed to have gained her fiery spirit back while arguing with her sister over the towel)
- "Wait… Is this what the silly hoodies are about and you not swimming for weeks?" – Daisy asked, although it was more a formality question, "the hoodie era" now had a very evident reason to her.
- "Nothing fits me anymore" – Misty in frustration closing her eyes, she had been trying to pretend like nothing had happened, but somehow it kind of felt like a relief that her sister now noticed it too, at least it must mean Misty was not imagining the whole thing.
- "Oh, I'm such a fool, I should have clicked that this is what was going on, I'm so sorry sis. I guess I thought you would have been all happy and excited when it happened like me Vi and Lil did, but you were always different. Wait for me a minute in your room please" – Daisy asked while picking the cookies from the floor and rushing to her own room.
Misty did as told but put on one of the hoodies when Daisy came back.
- "OK try this on" – Daisy said while handing Misty one of her old swimsuits which she brought from her room – "I won't look, I promise" as Daisy turned her back to Misty.
- "But" the redhead was starting to protest but was cut short by her sister.
- "Just try it on, for once don't fight me please" the blonde said with clearly little patience.
- "OK, but it probably won't fit either… nothing does" – Misty said annoyed.
- " Well, we shall see. Just tell me when you're ready OK?" – Daisy replied knowing that she was going to win this argument.
- "Done… Happy?" – Misty said in a sarcastic tone.
As Daisy turned to see her sister, she was genuinely surprised. Well, she always knew that Misty was a Waterflower and the "Waterflower genes" should kick in at some point, but somehow she was still not prepared to see her baby sister with such a grownup figure. The swimsuit did fit much better that Misty's own clothes as Daisy figured, but even Daisy's old swimsuit was just slightly tight in the chest and hips, yet slightly loose on the waist.
- "THIS IS SO UNFAIR!" – Daisy shouted in surprise with her usual "vain tone" while placing her hands on her own hips.
- " I know… I look like a freak" – Misty replied in frustration thinking she and her sister were for once on the same page".
- "Not unfair on YOU!… Unfair on Lil and Vi and ME!" – The eldest sister said on the same "vain tone" as if it should have been obvious how this situation was unfair on her.
- "WHAT? I know everything is always about the three of you, but seriously, How can THIS be about YOU?" – Misty said losing her nerve with her sister as she thought to herself that it was too good to be true having almost a day where she and her sister were not in a fight where everything had to be about the trio.
- "Well isn't it obvious?".- Daisy said in the vain tone rolling her eyes. And the eldest sister went on to add "I have always been the one with the nice boobs, Vi the one with the nice butt and Lil the one with the nice little waist… and you somehow come and get ALL THREE… maybe even slightly better…. HOW DARE YOU? – Daisy said giggling, and she quickly added while clapping her hands in excitement, " Oh those two are going to be so jealous…. It'll be so funny to see their reaction" – Daisy looked quite thrilled.
Misty was beyond confused, her sister seemed… proud, and talking about the sisters being jealous of her? Misty grew up used to being called the "Ugly Ducklett" by her sisters. Not once, any of her sisters, complimented anything about Misty's appearance… ever.
- "OK we need to get you new clothes" – Daisy happily said adding "Which is good timing because I called Saffron gym while you were in the bath, and that girl Sabrina can receive us in 2 days, and it just so happens that Saffron has that massive mall with all the fab shops, it's going to be so much fun" – The blond was starting to make a mental list of all the shops they were going to visit.
Misty, who couldn't think on a bigger torture than being dragged at a shopping mall by her sister was quick to interrupt.
- "Remember I should be going to Saffron to check with Sabrina why everything in the shed moved and what's happening with my head… not for shopping" – Misty said hoping to get some sense on her sister.
- "Listen missy, WE are going shopping for you, WHETHER YOU'RE THERE OR NOT!" - Daisy commanded. Misty had only heard such an authoritative tone on her sister twice, and both happened that day, things were getting so weird.
Noticing the obvious paradox in Daisy's phrase of shopping together whether Misty was there or not, Misty started to protest, "How will it work if I'm not…" Although she stopped herself from finishing the phrase, as just like earlier that day, she started seeing multiple (More than she could count) scenarios with Daisy dragging her all over a mall, but then there was one where Daisy was happily shopping by herself with a notepad in her hands, and for some reason that case felt the most likely in Misty's head, so Misty decided if there was a time to choose her battles, this was it.
- "Wait here, I'll bring you some shorts and t-shirts I think will fit you in the meantime" - Daisy said as she rushed happily to her own room coming back quickly with the items, plus a sewing measuring tape, a pencil, and what caught Misty's attention the most… a notepad just like the one in her head barely seconds ago.
- "OK, you can wear these until we get you new clothes, but I need to measure you first" – And Daisy pulled Misty to take her measurements. Usually it was Lily who took all measurements for the 3 sisters, as her hobby had always been to make the costumes for the plays Daisy writes, but Daisy's had her measurements taken enough times to know what was needed, so even if Misty… being Misty, refused to go shopping with her, she should be able to shop on her own using the notes she was taking.
- "I can't believe you've been hiding on those stupid hoodies all these weeks, remind me to burn them all when we come back from Saffron" – Daisy happily said
- "They're comfortable, nothing wrong with them" – Misty protested.
- "Oh but darling, you should not be hiding, is like I always say, If you have them.." – But suddenly Daisy stopped herself, and instead completed the phrase as "well, given that I'm like… your guardian or whatever, and that you are still barely 15, maybe I should not tell you as I do to my older friends, if you get them flaunt them… but… I think I can tell you NOT to be ashamed, yes that's probably OK" – Daisy went into that monologue looking at the ceiling a bit uncertain as if lecturing herself.
Misty noticed that Daisy was almost like trying to check with the universe what was the appropriate thing to say at that moment with her monologue, and this was probably the first time Misty actually realised that Daisy was indeed carrying a responsibility far beyond her age. Daisy was only 21now, and she was clearly trying her best to be as cheerful, proud and supportive of her 15-year-old sister in absence of any other guardian figure to guide her.
Misty thought then of 15-year-old Daisy, dealing with grandma's illness and going through so much bureaucratic paperwork to be declared an adult so all the sisters could stay together, and she still did it all keeping her cheerful attitude, and here was Misty at 15 freaking out because she went into puberty?. This was the first time Misty was in awe of one of her sisters, and ashamed of not measuring up herself, and she honestly just had the urge to hug her big sister, and when she did she was sure she heard quite a cheerful tune, almost like those you hear when the fair is in the city and all the games and shows are on display.
"Thank you… but please don't burn the hoodies" – Misty begged while still holding her sister.
Daisy, who couldn't believe her eyes, just kept the hug for a little longer, before replying "OK, I won't burn them…. all" and giggled.
Despite the heartbreak, confusion and devastation Misty was feeling in her life that day, it was definitely a silver lining to see her relationship to at least one of the sisters to start repairing, well, that and having understood Psyduck's language to perfection earlier. It was still a disastrous day, but she acknowledged not everything was bad.
Daisy was unsure if this was the right time to bring it up, but she definitely did not want to forget it, so she took a leap of faith and started the other conversation she was trying to hold with Misty that evening.
-"By the way sis, Ash was asking for you all evening, he was like very worried, and wasn't happy at all I didn't let him see you, so he said he'll call you tomorrow to check on you" – The blond girl explained.
-"He worries about all his friends, is just the type of person he is" – Misty sadly said.
-"I'm not so sure, I mean I guess he is a good friend to everyone, but he seemed really worried about you" – Again, her sister was trying to make Misty see that perhaps all the events from today were worse in Misty's head than they really were.
-"I suppose he hasn't done anything wrong to me, even if he's dating Serena, that probably doesn't mean he is stopping to be my friend, I'll have to see how to deal with that call tomorrow"
-"Oh about that, I really don't think those 2 are dating honey, honestly when I left the shed, it was all like out of "Alolan paradise cove" on TV.. Serena dashed the scene, and I swear I saw a second boy running after her, and Ash was all looking confused, and when he saw me he straight away asked about you and a Pokémon race?" –Daisy said this exactly as the times she was recapping her favourite soap opera episodes to her sisters, episodes that were filled with a million ludicrous situations that could not possibly all happen at the same place.
-"It was probably just a lover's quarrel, she's always adored the ground he walks by, any guy would love having a pretty girl idolising them that way" – Misty said that in annoyance completely ignoring the detail mentioned by Daisy on the second boy at the scene.
As Misty said this, she started hearing a different tune in her head; she wasn't in contact with Daisy, which probably meant that the tune was coming from Misty herself. She didn't know how to explain it, but the melody somehow sounded like jealousy, if jealousy had a ringtone; it was a bit tense, but hurtful at the same time, although still a beautiful melody, and alongside the tune, she could only hear the phrase "She's not right for him" coming from a sort of inner voice that she could not even decipher whether it was her own or someone else's. Strangely, she also seemed to recognise the tune as one of the many bursting in her head earlier that day on the "battle of the bands" that happened when she saw that kiss. By this point, Misty was surely considering the fact, that she was just going insane.
Daisy who noticed her sister was in some sort of trance, brought her back to reality saying "I don't know, having someone idolising you 24/7 would be so boring, it'll be like living with my fans, I'd hate them after a week, I could never date a fan" and she gave a bright smile to her sister as she said this.
Daisy's phrase certainly worked to bring her sister back to reality, possibly a little bit more than the blond sister intended, because suddenly Misty realised that when she dashed out of the pool area towards the garden, she run into Daisy and Tracey, and now that she thinks about it, those 2 alone by the rose bushes?, she thought to herself there's got to be something there.
- "Speaking of you dating… Did I interrupt anything with Tracey when I ran through the rose bushes?" – Misty just decided to ask bluntly.
- "Oh, well, you see we were just... ah, is nothing really" – The blonde just started mumbling nonsense and blushing.
- "Just because I'm miserable and relationships don't work for me doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy for you" – Misty replied, and added, "I've always liked the idea of the two of you together. Who do you think has been breaking all the other half of stuff in the gym?"
- "What do you mean the other half?" – Daisy asked faking ignorance.
- "Come on, I know you messed up with the pipes, the shelves, the stove at the kitchen. oh the sink too, 3 times!…" Misty just kept going on with the things she was sure her sister had tampered to get the boy to come.
- "Hey it was only once that I broke the sink!"- Daisy said pretending to be offended and then added laughing - "He must think we're a bunch of clumsy lunatics!".
- "He still kept coming back though" – Misty told her sister with a complicit smile.
- "Ok, ok… yes, he finally asked me out a few weeks ago, we've just kept it a secret because, you know how Lil and Vi are, they tend to be jealous if only one of us is dating someone…. And well, we were not sure how you would take it, for you is like your brother dating your sister, which sounds a bit weird" the blonde explained.
- "Oh I definitely did not need it phrased that way…. But honestly, you're getting the best guy in the whole universe, so you better not hurt him" – Misty said in a slightly threatening tone.
- "Hey you're supposed to be on MY SIDE! I'm you actual sister!" – Daisy said pretending to be offended.
- "I've seen you breaking many hearts before" – Misty protested.
- "That was different, I really like Tracey" – Daisy said looking genuinely happy.
- "Well, I got all the measures I need, and we have 2 days to prepare for our visit to Saffron, I'll drive, will be easier to get all the shopping bags in the boot of the car… Oh I haven't been to Saffron mall in ages, it'll be awesome. – The blonde continued in her happy mood and added "You should probably try to get some sleep now, hope the bath helped and don't forget about the call tomorrow".
Misty agreed and wished her sister goodnight, she still was unsure how to deal with that call the next day, but today, she did not have strengths for anything else.

Ok that was the second part of the prologue, bear with me while I get used to the formatting on the site, I had to fix some things on episode 1 after I notice the ending markers did not appear on the final version.
I would love to read comments or suggestions.
