Hello! We're back for another chapter of Mario's adventure in Hell Kingdom. Sorry I took very long for this. I had a rough day with my studies, but I'm still here typing. This is the second of the third trial Alastor has prepared for Mario. Let's see what he's got in store for the plumber.
Mario in Hell Kingdom
Chapter 9: The Radio Demon's 2nd Trial
After Mario got done with his lunch break, he waited for Alastor to prepare everything for the next trial. The last trial was okay if only Alastor at least gave him a warning about any sneaky openings. But it didn't matter because he needed to be ready for the next trial.
A few minutes passed, and Alastor was ready to initiate the second trial of the Overlords. Mario waited patiently to see what it was about. The radio demon materialized next to Mario and started to speak.
"Alright then, we shall now begin with the second trial!" he hollered with a neon banner that read 'second trial'. "This is where you'll use particular power-ups dedicated to Hell's environment."
He then summoned five different power-ups: one was teeth fangs, another was a crest in the shape of a moon goetia, next was a coin with a spider mark, then a winged dragon scale, and lastly, a shark fin. He then aimed his thin cane at Mario's cap. "That cap of yours is able to store any power-ups at your disposal, right?" Alastor questioned.
Mario nodded. "Then I want you to store them inside so you'll be able to have them when the time comes." he instructed.
Mario removed his cap, and then it started to release a trail of sparkles, gathering all the power-ups and storing them inside, making the cap glow red. Then Mario looked at Alastor to listen to the next decree.
"Before you can start this trial, let's have a test run on those five special power-ups. Take out the one with sharp teeth." Alastor commanded.
"Okie-dokie." Mario responded. He requested his cap for the desired item and out popped the teeth fangs. When he absorbed the item, his body glowed, and his body had gray fur all over. His boots were replaced with wolf feet, and his face was that of a wolf, too. Mario took the time to look at himself at what transpired.
"Whoa, what happened to be. It's almost like I was in a catsuit, but I feel more savage." Mario analyzed.
"This power-up is called Hellhound Fangs." Alastor explained. "It gives you the ability to enhance hearing, powerful strength, motion, agility, and strong claws to strike down your foes."
Then Alastor lifted his cane and spawned a few test dummies around them.
"I want you to defeat all the dummies with the use of the Hellhound Fangs." he instructed.
So Mario got started and slashed his way in shredding the dummies. He felt agile and had quick movements. It reminded him of a certain wolf character who he battles during Smash. I guess this is how it feels when you have wolf instincts in your mind.
After some time, the power up weared off, and Mario proceeded to bring out the next power up, the crest in the shape of a moon and a Goetia icon. When he activated, his face had a goetia-owl face, his arms and back had some feathers spreading out, and his feet were long and had claws.
"For this one, it's called Moon Crest Goetia. You'll be able to use frequent magic attacks, including Aurora Flash, Blizzard, Bolt, Boulder, Crystal, Flame Wall, and many more. The crest also grants you to see very dark places." Alastor lectured.
Then the radio demon made a dome around them and got pitch-black and spoke. "These dummies are gonna try to attack you out of nowhere. Use the Goetia vision to see your enemies in the dark and strike them down. Oh, and one more vital caution; using magic can cause your body to get tired, so use magic only if you're surrounded or in desperate times. Now get going."
"Don't worry, I understand the limit." Mario responded.
Alastor disappeared, leaving the plumber alone in the dark dome. So he visualized and sensed his surroundings for any dummy lurking by. Then he heard a sound, and one was about to jump right into him, but Mario sliced it away with his talons. Then, a few more came up as a group. The dummies were about to strike until Mario jumped high and slammed the dummies to the ground.
After that, the power-up vanished, and Mario took out the next one, the Spider-like Coin. He activated it, and now his clothing was wrapped around in a suit. The suit was similar to Spider-Man. Only the suit matched his overalls. The emblem on the middle, along with his cap, was the coin with a spider and an 'M' in it. Mario stretched his arms to get a feel on his suit.
"This one I personally like because of the design. This is the Web Coin. You now have the ability to climb up walls, shoot webs, and hone six senses." Alastor replied with a smile. "I'm certain you are familiar with the Spider-Man hero, right?"
"Yeah, I do know about him." said Mario.
"If that's the case, then here's your objective." Alastor raised his cane and from the ground came out a huge building. "Using those spider features, climb up the building and save the captured dummies at the highest point. But do be careful, the 'walls have eyes and ears' too." he winked.
"Roger that." Mario saluted. He began to crawl up the skyscraper. Pretty much, the walls flipped themselves to reveal burners, sawblades, and spikes. Mario carefully jumped, crawled, and swinged carefully to avoid any contact with the traps. He quickly rescued the dummies and came back down to Alastor with the three untied dummies. The radio demon clapped at the plumber's work.
"Well done. You seriously know how to impress others. Now it is time for the next item in store for you." he replied.
When the Web Coin power-up was gone, Mario proceeded to bring out the scale of a dragon. When absorbed, he was in a dragon suit. It had yellow scales with flame patterns on the sides, huge wings, and sharp claws.
"This one is the Maximal-Beast Dragon. You'll have the ability to fly, gain some amount of strength, breathe fire on your enemies, and have strong defense resistance." said Alastor. He then spawned floating targets and ones with shields and weapons. "See if you can destroy the targets with your newfound beast mode."
"I'm-a on it! RRROOOAAARRRR!" Mario roared with all his might and began flying to the targets and started blasting, defending and maneuvering the targets. If this is how Bowser manages to fly and breathe fire, then he can easily have a duel with the King of the Koopas.
After that, it was time for the last power-up Alastor would grant him. The last one came out and was a Snaggle-like toy. When Mario activated it, just like the dragon suit, he was now wearing a shark suit that covered his body, and the mouth was his face shown.
"For this last one, I call it Loan Shark! When you come across a large body of water, you can swim easily and never run out of breath. However, if an enemy hurts you, your air meter becomes your health meter as well. If needed to be restored, get up to the surface quickly. And for an additional bonus, if you defeat an enemy with your shark instincts, you could win small gold." Alastor enlightened.
He raised up his cane, and suddenly, a huge glass came out, and a flow of water sprung from the ground, creating an aquarium for Mario to swim in. Alastor then placed a chest with a horde of bitesizes, squidges, shuris, and lurchins guarding it.
Alastor went up to Mario and said, "See that chest on the bottom?" he spoke, and Mario nodded. ""Go get it for me and avoid the aquatic attackers. They are really tough guardians when keeping a chest." he winked at the last part.
"Do not-a worry, I managed to pick up chests with my friends several times. I can get it, no problem." replied Mario. He started to dive underwater with his new form. Swimming with a shark suit was proving to be useful when it came to turns and tricks. As soon as Mario got close to the enemies, they spotted him and started to attack him. Luckily for Mario, he swam right past everyone, managed to get a hold on some with the mouth of the shark suit, defeated them, and gained some gold. He obtained the chest and went back up the surface. Alastor took the chest from and opened the lid, which contained some money for Mario to keep.
Alastor made the large aquarium disappear while Mario made the shark suit go away. Now, it was time for the main event of the second trial.
"Well done, Sir Mario! You have mastered all the power-ups dedicated to Hell's environment. We shall now begin the second of the Overlords!" He raised his cane to create a huge arena with electric walls on the sides. Then, he started to explain the rules.
"On this trial, you will fight off against a multitude of 100 living corpses. The first 15 will be normal living corpses, and 35 will be based on the power-ups you'll need to use. If you use the correct one, you can finish them off in three hits! Sometimes, you don't always need to change from one to another. If you feel confident in taking them down easily, then by my guest. After that, the last 50 will be anything goes, and the living corpses will get tougher and smarter. If you can survive and defeat all 100 baddies, you'll pass the second trial! Any questions?" Alastor finished speaking.
"Nope, I'm-a ready to get this started." Mario responded with determination.
"Okay then…Let the manslaughter BEGIN!" Alastor yelled in a demon voice. He disappeared to the sidelines as an army of living dead corpses rose from the ground and started to go after the heroic plumber. Mario didn't falter the challenge and went straight into battle. Then Alastor remembered something and tapped his cane, for something had happened.
Back at Hazbin Hotel, all the hotel staff were getting ready for the first entry of the commercial. Vaggie was looking for a camera to record. And by hell's luck, a camera popped in front of her, floating. Seems like the radio demon heard her call, which creeped her a little. She went back to the foyer and turned on the camera to begin recording the scene. Charlie and Niffty stood aside to see how it's gonna turn out.
"Alright, let's do this…" said Vaggie.
The camera switches into the point of view of the video camera recording the bar scene, with Husk behind the counter reading his script and Angel sitting on a bar stool. The camera whirrs as it brings the two into focus.
"And…Action!" she hollered.
Husk started to read his lines on the script, despite the fact that he was supposed to memorize them at least. "Welcome to the Hazbin Hotel. Can I help you with anything?" he grumbled.
Angel proceeded to speak to him in his rather seductive way as usual. "I've been a bad boy, and I need a big, strong daddy to put me in my place…on the path to redemption!"
Husk was already feeling so displeased about this idea. But he had to follow orders. "Well, you come..."
All of a sudden, Angel began to moan sexually. "Oh, yes!"
Then Husk got all dull. "...to the right place."
Vaggie started to get super annoyed by this and had to stop recording. "Cut! Okay, Angel, I need you to be less horny for Charlie's sake. Husk, can you maybe not have the script in front of your face? We don't want sinners to think we are pathetic at doing this." she ordered.
"Hey! I ain't no f***kin' actor! I can't memorize all this bulls**t!" Husk blurted angrily.
"Well, we could improve this crap, baby cakes." Angel advised. He then gets closer to Husk's face. "Rrawwr." he purrs seductively.
Husk gets irritated by Angel and shoves him off the counter painfully hard.
Charlie sees this and says, "Guys c'mon, we need to make sure sinners can really appreciate the hotel."
As everyone was bickering and hollering, a knock on the front doors was heard. Everyone stopped what they were doing and listened.
"You think Mario and Alastor came back?" Vaggie wondered.
"Let me see, I'll go check." said Charlie.
She reached the entrance and when she opened it, she saw nobody at first. When she looked down, though, she spotted a spirit with a top hat floating in the air.
"Uhh…hello." The spirit waved.
Charlie didn't know what to say about this. Was she surprised or confused about someone else coming to her hotel? The only thing she could say is…
"SQUEEEE! You are an adorable creature!" She suddenly brought the spirit in her grasp and hugged him.
"Umm, I'll have you know I do have a name, Miss." The spirit said, still struggling to get out.
After a few seconds, Charlie let go of the spirit to breathe in some air. "Sorry, I have a habit of loving cute things. I can't get over it." She recomposed herself and greeted him. "Welcome to the Hazbin Hotel, where you can stay here and redeem your sins and seek redemption. I am Charlie Morningstar, proprietor of this establishment and the princess of hell. Nice to meet you."
Cappy also introduced himself as well. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Morningstar. My name is Cappy, a Bonneter from Cap Kingdom. I come from another world in search of my partner, Mario."
"Oh, you're a friend of Mario? And did you say you are from another world?" Charlie asked.
"That's right." replied Cappy.
"Hey Charlie! Who's at the front door?" Vaggie shouted from the foyer.
"Oh, it's a new guest who arrived at our hotel!" Charlie called out. Then she looked back at Cappy. "Come inside, maybe we can talk more about yourself, and you can meet everyone while we wait for Mario."
"Sure, that's fine by me." said Cappy.
So he went inside to meet the staff members of the Hazbin Hotel.
Back at the abandoned factory, lots of punches and explosions were heard. In the arena, Mario had finished defeating the first 50 living corpses and was now engaging the next half of them. The corpses were getting stronger and ruthless during the battle.
One of them drew their claws at Mario, but he swiftly dodged the incoming attack. Mario used the Hellhound Fangs and proceeded to slash across the enemies, including ones that were covered in water or fire. He then had to jump up and stomp on the corpse's heads to avoid a crowd of them.
Then, out of nowhere, a corpse managed to slash into Mario's form, and his power-up was gone. So Mario activated the Web Coin, started jumping, and released strings of web onto the enemies. Once wrapped, he spinned around, knocking any corpses near him, and then he flung the wrapped ones onto the electric fence, decapitating their bodies.
Alastor was taking a gander at how everything was going. At first, he was impressed at the amazing facets of the plumber, but if he thinks he can just beat this trial so easily, he's gonna have to raise the stakes to deadly.
So far, he was down to 30 enemies left to destroy. More and more started to come after him. With a whole flock of living corpses, Mario knew it was time to use a mystic art from the Moon Crest Goetia. He summoned it and was now transformed into a Goetia Owl. Mario proceeded to use Boulder and Flame Wall, burning and smashing some of the living corpses. Only 9 of them dodged the attack, and they were starting to pile up on Mario by getting rid of the Goetia power-up and jumping on him. Mario didn't have the strength to push away the corpse enemies until a bright shining light burst and Mario transformed into the Maximal-Beast Dragon. The remaining living corpses were getting frightened and started to run everywhere in the arena. Mario wasted no time in flying to the air and released a torrent spiral of fire on the ground, engulfing the corpses into flames and melting. When the flames died down, not a single corpse was seen.
Alastor appeared in the middle of the arena to celebrate Mario's victory.
"Good show, good show. I never imagined someone like yourself would put up a spectacle for my amusement!" Alastor cheered.
"I have my prowess when it comes to defeating enemies and bosses wherever I go." said Mario.
"Yes yes, I can see that. Now, there seems to be a slight problem here." Alastor revealed with a smile, then it turned into a dark tone. "You only defeated 99 living corpses."
Mario didn't realize it until now. "What!? I could've sworn I defeated every single one. Are you up to something?" he questioned in seriousness.
"Well…" Alastor zoomed behind, and then a dark shadow casted under Mario's boots. The plumber noticed it was getting smaller and smaller. He managed to make a run out of it. Then, a grand pound slam was heard, covering the arena in dust.
Mario covered himself to avoid any dust getting into his eyes. As soon as the dust cleared, Mario was face-to-face at a giant looking monster. The monster had a large nose with big jaws, long neck, dragon wings, large tail, and sharp claws on the hands and feet. It was a Bahamutt! Its whole body had a zombie-demon look, and it looked very ferocious.
Alastor began to expound on this unexpected occasion. "Did you really think the last enemy would be a simple but weak corpse? I decided to raise up the ante by giving you a final enemy with predatory results!" he beamed. "The rules are the same as always…if you can beat this final enemy in line, you have officially progressed to the 2nd trial of the Overlords! NOW KILL HIM!"
The Bahamutt began the battle swinging its claws at Mario. The hero saw this and jumped out of the way. The beast started to stomp on him multiple times, but Mario had great agility in dodging the stomps. Mario had to think of something fast otherwise he'll be mincemeat for this dragon. So the first thing he did was to go up on the dragon's face and punch its eyes to cause blindness. The dragon tried to get him off of his nose, but Mario held on tightfully. After a few attempts, the beast roared with anger and proceeded to slam his face on the ground to squash his prey. Mario had to move quickly to avoid getting smashed up. He jumped over and landed on the ground.
The Bahumutt released a torrent of flaming fireballs at the hero. Mario managed to avoid some, but one of them touched him and took damage.
"Do be careful, meatface! This dragon doesn't back down when someone's already hurt!" Alastor chirped.
Mario got up from the attack and waited for the next attack. The Bahumutt began to flap its wings, creating small tornadoes. Mario sidestepped every single one and pulled out a hammer from his cap. He jumped real high and swinged his hammer on the dragon's long neck. The beast felt the pain, but it only did slight damage. As Mario landed on the ground, The Bahumutt took the opportunity to slam the ground and create shockwaves. Mario jumped the first two, but the last one came out fast, and he was flown on the electric wall. The plumber felt an intense shock, and it rendered him weak. The Bahumutt saw his condition and opened his mouth, ready to gobble him up. Mario moved out of the way, leaving the dragon to slam on the electric fence, now facing the same voltage level Mario had. The monster roared in pain and had to rest for a while. Both combatants were worn out by the shock.
Alastor decided to make a commentary about this. "Oooohhhhh, it seems the human and dragon are too frail. Who shall make the next move, ladies and gentledemons?"
Mario had to do something quick, but what? He spotted the Bahumutt's tail, giving him a nostalgic memory of defeating a certain Koopa King. He took out a mushroom from his cap and healed a portion of his health. He quickly went up to the beast's tail to swing him. The only way for him to deal damage is by throwing him into the electric fence again so he can do the finishing blow. But that proved to be hard because when the Bahumutt sensed his tail being grabbed, the monster lifted his tail, along with the plumber, and slammed real hard on the ground. Mario had a dizzy status and couldn't do anything, he was lost in thought. The Bahumutt wasted no time and chomped the plumber with his mouth. The Bahumutt succeeded in gobbling up Mario.
Alastor saw this predicament, but he didn't care too much since he couldn't help him. "Oh, what a devastating tragedy. Our hero, Mario, had succumbed to the terrifying grasp of the Dragon's dinner schedule. Looks like he's going to be digested soon! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
The Bahumutt lipped his clawed fingers and decided to rest from the battle.
Inside the belly of the beast, Mario landed on the stomach and was trapped. He couldn't find a way out. For times like this, he needed to think of how to cause a stomach ache on a monster's welfare. Then his mind gave him a memory of the time when he was a baby, both him and Yoshi were swallowed by Prince froggy. The only way to escape is by hitting the uvula. All he had to do was reach up there and punch the lights out of it. Mario transformed into Maximal-Beast Dragon and started spreading fire around the stomach, hoping for the beast to feel it.
Outside, the Bahumutt was sound asleep until he felt a slight heartburn coming from his stomach. He tried to hold it, but it kept burning and burning. The radio demon watched in a confusing manner as to what was happening.
The Bahumutt was moving from left to right in holding up the pain coming from his stomach, but it proved to be useless. The huge beast then released a ton of bones he once ate, and among them was the heroic Mario in Maximal-Beast Dragon. The Bahumutt coughed and coughed, trying to regain his composure after that stomach ache. Mario saw the dragon distracted, and it was the opportunity to fry its skin to render its weakness. Mario flew on all sides of the dragon and shot out fireballs and flame pillars at the beast. The Bahumutt tried to use its wings to dissolve the flames, but with his recent injury, he wasn't strong enough to flap them quickly.
Then the beast began to weep in a poor state, causing Mario to finally grab him by the tail and spin him around. The Bahumutt hollered in agony as Mario threw him into the electric fence. With the beast's skin burned, plus the high voltage of the fence was good enough to be obliterated. The Bahumutt let out a final roar, and an explosion happened in the arena. When it dyed down, all that was left was Mario still in his Maximal-Beast Dragon and a sack of more money and two gold bars.
The arena and electric walls vanished, and the abandoned factory returned to normal as if nothing changed. The radio demon spawned next to him with a "Congratulations Banner" on top of the plumber.
"We…he…hell! That was quite a fascinating battle!" Alastor rallied and clapped his hands. "You were so indignant in putting that foul beast into time out!"
"I've faced bigger dragons in my rpg times, especially ones that were thousand-year old." Mario replied.
Mario brought up the sack of money, along with the gold bars, and stored them into his magical cap.
"So this means I'm at the 3rd and last trial of yours?" asked Mario.
"Right on the money, meatface! Now that you've gathered all of your strength and power with the help of those power-ups I gave you, It is now time to initiate the final test. But first, take a 15- minute rest." Alastor complied.
"And what is the final trial?" Mario wondered.
"Would you like a preview? Very well…your final test is…Defeat an Overlord…AND THAT'S ME!" Alastor shrieked in demon form.
Wooooo… I finished. We've reached the end of this chapter. As I said before, sorry for the long wait. I had a ton of art projects in class, and I couldn't find the time to come back here.
As you heard right now, the final test for Mario is to defeat Alastor in an rpg battle. The only thing I need to know is to ask you what kind of battle it should be?
-A Paper Mario battle system?
-A Mario & Luigi battle system?
-A Super Mario RPG battle system?
Additionally, Cappy has entered the Hazbin Hotel to see if Charlie knows the whereabouts of friend Mario. Will he get comfortable with the hotel staff, or is he gonna get traumatized? You'll find out soon enough.
Here are the latest reviews of some users I choose:
SAMURAI-77: If Mario introduces himself to the Overlords, the question is which of the Overlords will pick Mario, Carmilla, Zestial, Rosie, Alastor, or Zeezi? Would you add the Mario OSTs in your story it would cool to add it. I'm looking forward for the next chapter.
Mario64: TBH, I prefer Mario to be alone in the Hazbin universe without Cappy but I guess this is how we're going with.
Thank you all for reading this, and stay tuned. Leave your reviews for any open ideas for this fiction!
P.S. Thanks Nintendo-Marvel64 for the power-up ideas!
